I have decades of experience doing thus, but in a narrow context. I spent a career as a firefighter paramedic and had to switch and unplug multiple times a day. From delivering the absolute worst news to a patient”s loved one, to helping deliver a baby, to relieving someone”s chest pain...you name it.
My difficult task is translating that skill into my entrepreneurship and learning the new language.

Agree 100%. I was the manager of the spa and gym onboard a cruise ship and the male singer onboard the ship went overboard and died. What made it worse was 2 things 1) 11 of my team witnessed it with one being up for murder (but was later released) and 2) My girlfriend at the time was the female singer. Therefore, I had to deal with it professionally because I needed to be there for my team and I had to deal with it personally because it was my girlfriends signing partner. To top it off, the following day we had 2000 new guests onboard the ship and I had to run the spa and gym like nothing happened, meanwhile half my team were in a complete mess. We held it together as a team and somehow pulled through. 100% the toughest management moment I've ever had.

This is one of those skills, that's actually not about gaining more knowledge to be able to do it. It's about letting go of bad habits. The more bad habits we can shed, the more positive consequences we are able to manifest. This is due to letting go of the self sabotage that bad habits create in the present and in the future. Let go of bad habits, emotionally, intellectually, socially, physically, and watch how stopping certain things eg. letting go of criticism of self and others, positively changes the world around you. Watch how your natural skills blossom to authentically, effectively, efficiently, masterfully, deal with the circumstances we find ourselves in, no matter the context.

Communication and decision-making under pressure, and the ability to be constructive and agile in gut-wrenching moments like these, are keys to be really successful in the business world regardless of your professional status. The fact that it's a soft skill can make it that much tougher to master. PBD, thank you for elucidating the importance of this soft skillset!

This video resonated with me deeply, it's quite recent but I have slowly gotten into this exact mindset even before watching this video. I like to think of it as two things, the first one is I panic slowly and quietly and the second is emotional intelligence. What I mean by panicking slowly and quietly is that I won't allow myself to be overwhelmed by anything, I step back and make logical decisions; this of course is a slower process at the moment as it is controlled but I am getting quicker at doing it. The second is emotional intelligence; having the ability to understand, use, and manage my emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.

I would be emotionally shocked out of the world around me, and probably trying not to sob, I would tell the parents, "There is nothing I can do. There is nothing I can do." I would not leave them, and I would always be ready to receive them personally, and any request they made of me personally. They would always have a direct line of communication with me. We only live once, and everybody matters to me! My next in command can handle the grand opening; the crowd will not be disappointed. The parents of the child that was killed will never be the same again. This is not my advice, this is my choice.

One of the most important skills as an entrepreneur is being able to assess any situation and adjust your entire demeanor, communication and behavior based on that situation.
It’s almost like having multiple personality disorder, but knowingly doing it on purpose for an end goal of usually money or persuasion.
My girlfriend used to get mad at me at first when we were together and we were out in public and someone would approach me to ask questions.
(Smaller city, lots of people know me)
She would always get furious because she said I “changed my tone and my personality based on who I was talking to in order to get them to like you.... BUT I ALWAYS made the sell.”
She said that to me. That’s what made her realize it.
Has nothing to do with people actually liking me it’s all about getting the sell!
    But it’s so true!!!

This isn’t a skill that can easily be developed. It takes certain inherent attributes to be able to fulfill these duties in succession. Any good actor can successfully get through a day or two completing tasks as such, but will eventually mess up, and there are no second takes. The two most important attributes you’d need to fulfill a role like that are competence and heart. The competence to engage in constructive dialogue and the heart to truly care, and come across as genuine.

No one is perfect. If something happens that shakes you, and it better be something quote, unquote, valid, then you just take a breather, and unless the next conversation, call, meeting, is a do or die deal breaker, just postpone it. If you have to take the next call etc... then this is where you have to know exactly who you're talking to. We're all human so if it's a valid concern, a quick response after their icebreaker, will do, then you take it from there. Again the most important factor is knowing exactly who you're talking with. For example, the phone rings and something valid just transpired that shook you beforehand, if it's not a deal breaker just tell the secretary you'll get back. If you have to take it, and you know who this person is, and how they are, this is where it's decided whether or not you're the man. So, you pick up, you already know what time it is with this person, they break ice with hi, hello, how's everything blah, blah, blah, you proceed accordingly, "Everything is great here as far as business" feel them out for a quick nanoseconds, they might respond with, " that's great! Business is good here too. We're good. Nothing pressing at the moment. Give me a call later on let me know if anything new needs to be addressed, ok." "Ok. Thanks I really appreciate you calling, I'll hit you up soon." Again it all depends on who you're talking with. This is a scenario at best. It can go this way. Again, depending on who you're talking with. It's way more important than you're response because your response is fully dependent on the other person. If you are already successful then you already know what I mean by a valid concern. I hope you do. Business does have a bottom line. It depends how high or low that line is for you and your partners, associates, etc....

Ohh I do this all the time it’s a natural habit for me.. when I’m around family, I sound weird and I’m very goofy with them.. But when I’m talking to strangers or like going out ordering McDonalds.. my voice change and I’ll act very professional/mature for some reason.. my dad would always tell me “ohh you have a two face don’t you?” For some reason I feel like I have more than two😂

Pretty good Psychology Pat. Nice to have it on video for generations to see. It also comes with fatherhood.
