      i'd do these using the smith machine...while some make fun of using it....many many pros use it....it's a great piece of equipment and it takes away the need to search the gym looking for a spot...which I hate. and it's much safer.

    HOW DO I BUILD A BIGGER UPPER CHEST! I get asked this question all the time and to be honest, I was like 99% of you and always thought incline was the best...... then I got asked to compare these two exercises... did my homework.. and realized even I was wasting time doing incline in terms of trying to isolate that specific area.
    You guys are going to REALLY love this video and expect to see some reverse-grip barbell bench pressing in an upcoming video!

      @ScottHermanFitness you uploaded a video a while ago in which you told that reverse grip bench hits the triceps. I left a comment on that video stating that reverse grip wide bench works your upper chest and increases upper chest fibers by 30% when compared to incline. You replied me stating that it works triceps and not the chest. And I was right back then. Now you upload a video saying that it works upper chest and it really does. But I think you should first get yourself educated before uploading a video and giving misleading information to your subscribers.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  8 років тому +13

      +adguglani A reverse-grip bench press with a close-grip (inside shoulder width) WILL target the triceps more.. hence why in this video I explained that in order to properly target the upper chest you need to be OUTSIDE shoulder-width or else you will activate more triceps.
      But thanks for coming here to leave a disrespectful message. Very cool.

    • @adguglani
      @adguglani 8 років тому

      +ScottHermanFitness yeah I know reverse close grip hits triceps. But in the video you uploaded a while ago, you didn't mention anything like 'CLOSE' grip.

    people you need to understand that the top portion of the sternocostal is also seen as upper chest.
    so work on top of sternocostal using shrugged bench press
    and work on clavicular using incline or revers bench press

    I have a question. why is there a huge loss in strength when switching to reverse grip benches over benches? I understand it's a new exercise but the weight drop was huge. I noticed this even when having to only use resistance bands during the lock down.

      Anterior delts aren't activated as much. Having the delts assist in pressing motions generates a lot of extra power. Also, Scott is wrong about not protracting the scapula at the end. That would be the complete optiminal movement. However, you won't be able to do as much weight on the full protraction, that's why it's standard in weightlifting to only retract the scapula. In gymnastics/calisthenics, it's encouraged to protract at the end, as you need the full movement and strength to execute advanced skills like the planche. You are more likely to protract when your body is pronated, however when supinated, you are less likely as gravity adds a extra challenge. This is why doing only bench press is not optiminal.

    only Just seen you and your videos and have to say your approach is really great, no complexity or unneccessary bulls**t that ends up with novice trainers getting hurt. I was struggling on chest with growth i have the strenght but no mass and this has really helped me out. subbed to your channel and would like to see either a barbell row vs t-bar row or maybe a military press vs seated dumbell press. nonetheless great work keeping things simple and easy to follow whilst giving people confidence that they can trust your advice and knowledge. spot on dude!
