Yep, did one day as well. Did two in 2018 and also “melted” on highway 30. Biggest difference was the weather this year and loved the tailwind to bring us home! Great video and nice ride!
Great ride. Congrats on your first one day StP. The big green thing on your left in St. Johns is a water tower. Also, sorry to tell you, but Vancouver Ave is called that because it connects Portland to Vancouver, Washington which is just across the river. It’s not named after Vancouver, B.C., although both cities were of course named after the same person.
Amazing ride! "On your left" while going up the hill is...satisfying! Should post a segment video for "The Hill". I think my favorite part might be the part before Winlock...nice smooth tarmac with slightly rolling hills and nice views....so nice. Ride after getting into Oregon...not so much enjoyable. But the finish is certainly memorable, and the city of Portland was pretty cool.
Great idea, I was planning on making a specific climbing video on the whole hill soon. Totally agree, lots of highlights even though some of the route can get pretty rough.
I am waiting for this to open for registration. I will be doing it one day this year, wish to see you guys again. I will be in a orange and blue De Rosa, shouldn't be another copy around easily.
Good job. Props also need to go out to Cascade. There's a TON of logistics and coordination to a ride of up to 10,000 people down the rode, fed, watered, and back home. Plus the support crews doing setup, tear-down, and road support.
That was my buddy in the Project one, we were riding with a fast train and you guys got dropped before the Tenino trail. And that’s when we got lost, we went for a 15 mile hilly loop to that dead end. when we made it to centralia the guy in the madone (Agustn) had already gone by. You made good time and that was our goal to be at the finish line by 5 but we didn’t got there until past 7pm. Great video.
Great to have ridden with you then! Haha my friends could have kept up but I wanted to take it more chill and with a smaller group. So I got dropped would be a more apt description. 🤣 Wow! That's still a good time for 222 miles then. Hope you had a good ride.
If it makes you feel better we 2-day riders also had to fend for ourselves on the shoulder of the Longview bridge. What an awesome summary video. We rolled into Castle Rock at 8pm. I wish I could go that fast.
Oh no, sorry to hear that but seems like you made it through! Thank you :) Honestly, that's about the same pace it would have taken me to get to Castle Rock my first time in 2018. I think I got to Winlock at about 5:30~ but I was super dead... It's been a couple years cycling daily but if you find a couple like-minded folks working as a team you'd be surprised by how fast you can go!
The caravan escort is for a few hour window on Sunday during the busiest period -- I hear roughly to 1pm'ish this year. You might have gotten there earlier because you started off from Castle Rock. It is by authorization with Oregon DOT and WA DOT only.
Nicely done vlog . Did a good job of describing the differences of your 1-day vs previous 2-day experiences and some 2022 changes in general. Thought you were gonna burn yourself out on the Puyallup Hill with that burst, but you kept it up the whole climb!
Thank you! Definitely a very different ride indeed but enjoyed both in their own ways. I'll upload a full video covering my hill climb with data but there was a false flat in the middle which helped me to keep it up. 😂
23:06, water tower. In some part of the US, water pressure on the supply side is created in some area by gravity as water pressure will gain 0.433 psi per verticle feet drop. Enjoy your day.
Wow! That’s pretty awesome specially one day ride ! Our team did the 2days and it was Hot 🥵 and we actually took more time to rest because of the heat! Anyways hopefully someday 1day ride STP😅
@@BestSideCycling Yes, I received the t-shirt and sticker/cloth sticker. I liked it better when volunteers used to give you an embroidered patch as you came in. I noticed, not as many riders this year.
@@BestSideCycling I've tried to bike at least once a week and I always feel a lot better afterwards 😃 . I'm also trying to get in shape for bicycling from Tacoma to Seattle, so hopefully, I will do it before September. 🚴🌇
@@BestSideCycling on the section that went from Sumner into Puyallup, the first climb it looked like it was going to plateau... But looking down at the tarmac someone spray painted "false summit. You got this" and then there was a second part to that climb.... And then at the down hill someone spray painted "wheeeeeee" letting riders know that climb was over and it was downhill
The green thing in St. John’s is a water tower. Just curious what you would guess avg watts/kg was for 1 day finishers. Looking to train for this and wondering what a good goal would be. Great video.
Yes I did, overnight at a hotel with family that drove down from Seattle then I hitched a ride back. They have a lot of organized bus and transport you can always take to go back
Phenomenal riding. This guy makes it looks easy. IT IS NOT! The last time I did the one-day ride I made it to the finish line at 8:45 pm - 15 minutes before they officially ended it for the day 1 riders. Sadly, the finish line photographer had already packed up and left. SAD!
I ride on average 1 hour and 10 minute averaged per day! Distance depends on which bike and route I'm doing: made a video over my past year ua-cam.com/video/AJI9PB9E8LE/v-deo.html

@@SpencerSnow awesome job! You totally could have if you went that far out the first day :) must have been a nice victory lap the second.
Did it this year as you know. Congratulations on your accomplishments.

140 day one; 66 day two

Thanks for inspiring video. Keep up your expedition and sharing local rides.

Congratulations “Best Side” ! A great video!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing some bigger and bigger rides from you. Hope things are well.
I did the 2 day for the first time in 2022. Watching this took me back. Super excited for this year!
Hope you have a super great ride this year!
Nice! This is on my bucket list. So I'll see you one day for sure! Well done!
Haha sounds good are you from around Seattle
Great video and a hell of a ride can’t wait till I can do something this big

Awesome! Hope you have a fantastic ride. I may not be in the one day crew this year as I might ride with my dad :)
2010 I did stp and the Puyallup hill on my Cannondale one speed!
Awesome. Feather weight looks fun
Hahaha feather weight is not fun in the wind or downhills but it's definitely different 😂
Great video of the 2022 STP one day ride! You guys were really moving right along.
Appreciate it, was nice to finally have a big "ride"/event to vlog about :) Definitely have my crew to thank for that pace ^_^

Awesome! Congratulations. What an excellent time of completion too. I’m glad you and your crew made it without incident. I hope you recover well.
Thanks dude, and for sure... we didn't get any mechanicals! Hope we'll go out on a ride soon!

Doing 200 miles in one day is impressive. I did 100 miles once by myself and I was struggling at the end.
Thank you, it's much easier with a group to ride with, support in rest-stops and the works!
Jumbo is that you? TDF pace haha
Hahaha I was making jokes that I basically have three WVAs and I was Jonas (I wish).
Amazing! Any plans to do RAMROD? I would love to see that.
I am indeed signed up but I am monitoring the heat-wave too. There will definitely be a video on it if I'm rolling out :)
Awesome job. Are the rest stop areas near the course? How far off are they ?
If you're joining the official seattle to portland event there's a lot of rest-stops along the course! So you'll be well taken care of.
Did you stay overnight in Portland? Where? How did you get back to Seattle? Thanks and Congrats.
