Baby Seal Rescued From Plastic Strap
- Plastic strap entanglements are unusual at Cape Cross. They are normally found near the Walvis Bay fish factories where they are commonly used to hold together bait boxes. The sudden increase in plastic strap entanglements at Cape Cross is bad news, seals already have to deal with large amounts of recreational fishing line in this area. We will keep an eye on this alarming development!

Once again, thank you OCN for saving another pup in hazardous terrain! Poor pup didn't even know what happened, or that you saved it's life. Heal little one, and stay out of trouble!
Couldn’t have said it better.. Thank you team OCN!! ❤❤❤
A young rescuer saving a young seal 💞💞
Nicely done Dylan, and thank you Team OCN for another life saved!!
👍
😥That plastic strap had already caused a deep wound. Thanks Denzil and Dylan, because of you this baby seal can heal now!✂️💕🦭
It gets so much more unsafe when the pups run in the crevices full of water. Spreading it and making the rock faces slippery. You want to catch them quickly but its so easy to slip. Nice seeing Dylan.
Thank you my heroes for saving him ❤️ greetings to all 😊🙋🏼
👍
Puppy wasn't going to live long with that strap around its neck, so many thanks for saving him/her from suffering the nightmare. Thankyou OCN. 🤗💝🏴
Thank you team OCN for rescuing this baby fur seal from his crappy piece of garbage. Thanks to you he/she gets another chance to survive, to grow to be an adult.❤🦭
Hit the likes people. It’s free and it really helps the channel.
A slow and steady pace is always best when navigating those nasty smelly poo pools. Well done Denzil and Dylan!
Junior member to the rescue. Well done Dylan. Thanks guys.
👍
Oh, those rocks - eek! Well netted Denzil, and a lovely save by you both. Thank you💙
👍
The slick rocks become a real challenge even when dry never mind when wet.....WONDERFUL save OCN Team !
👍
Hi all!
Thank you guys for giving life to such a sweet baby. These wet, slippery stones... I walked on them a lot in the mountains, but in special boots. I hope you have spikes on your sneakers)

Cute baby~👍
Thank you for saving the pub~🤗
👍
Nasty strap would have badly cut and eventually killed the pup. He's had a bad start to life but now, he has the chance to grow and thrive. Dangerous terrain, glad you were able to net him and nobody was hurt. Thank you OCN!
👍
🙌🤩 Denzil & Dylan! You are AWESOME!! Thank you for making this world a better place 🌍🦭💛
That was a very quiet rescue! Thanks team, careful on those rocks!🦭♻️
🙂👍
Thank you so much.. NYC one ❤to you my Gs
This is a skill we wish we never had to develop, but we are unfortunately very experienced by now.
👍
Poor little guy! So happy he was set free by OCN❤
Those rocky rescues look quite dangerous sometimes. This was relatively smooth.
No conversations? That is unusual. I love how the seals find a puddle in the rocks and try to swim before they realize it's too small a body of water and they begin to 'run' again!
I love every rescue, but the rocks make me nervous. Must be the mom in me.
Thanks to Dylan for helping Denzel.
👍
Super Arbeit! ❤ Danke!
Oooh that looks so painful, thank you for rescuing this little one!❤️🙏🏻👍
thanks for all you do to rescue...made the population more aware.
Silly seal.
You can't outrun Denzil.
😁
HELDEN
Big thanks to you all from north Europe ❤️❤️❤️
👍
He casually made his way almost as if to say, Hey, that actually DOES feel better. Thanks!"
Not saying that is the case, but I do understand the disorientation.
🙂👍
Thank you OCN! I'm so happy you are able to save the seals!
a happy little seal rescued and headed back to the water. great rescue for a baby👍👍
Danke 💖
Wow Dylan is becoming a pro!
🙂👍
Hi, Dylan. You did good today. You're learning a lot and we thank you.
👍
Seals are certainly clumsy on the land.
Oh, wow. That poor baby is awfully young to have a cut like that. Hopefully, he will grow up to be a healthy bull ( that's if he is a male pup 😮).
YES! Save that puppy!
It is great to get younger generations involved in saving the wildlife of the planet. Now we need to have laws to limit the use of non biodegradable products. Thank you OCN. ❤❤❤
Poor pup 😢 with a deep wound😮
Thank you for your tireless commitment to the animals!❤
Our efforts are just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year.
We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.
Great Job...
Dang, that one looked deep. Awesome job navigating those rocks Denzil! No clue how you dont slip... you guys are amazing!
The poor baby. I feel sick seeing that. I'm so glad you were there for him/her. ❤
👍
Awwww. Adorable little pup.
He settled right down as soon as Dylan cut the strap. 😇
I think he understood at that point that you were helping him.
Can't thank you enough. Such amazing people you are.
❤❤😊❤❤
👍
Thanks Guys
👍
Great job once again! 1:05 "disorientated" is that the influence of Africaans dialect? 😅
Nicely Done Sir. A look to be remembered
👍
Thank you, Denzil the saving the puppy's life 💕💕. The video also showed the young person's face ❣👏. Very rocky and slippery place. Be careful in there 👀❤.
That was a slash on that seals neck looked sore🤥😏
👍
Good job Dylan👍
👍
Dylan is very familiar with the workings of seal rescue now!
Thank you. 🦭
❤❤❤❤❤ THANK YOU !!! ❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When I saw the string being pulled out, I just had a feeling that the seal wasn't going to immediately run away, because it looked like such a relief.
I used to remember having fun searching through rock pools as a child. I don’t think these rock pools are very nice
😁👍
🇺🇦❤️🙏Thank you very much Team OCN. Good job.
This is a skill we wish we never had to develop, but we are unfortunately very experienced by now.
Sweet
❤Team OCN! eww.. the smell comes through the camera 🤢 👍😎✊
🙂👍
Do you ever spot them after healing? Thank you!
Sometimes they find one and state, "That is a recapture! Healing well" so....yes, sometimes they do. Especially the big bulls at the docks
And, unfortunately, they also get repeat customers.
We see healthy recaptures every single day, proof that seawater acts as a very efficient wound cleaner and that Cape fur seals are extremely resilient animals.
💗💗 Thank You OCN 💗💗
Thank you❤
👍
Thank you for all you do

"Denzel easily catches the baby seal..." DUH! He's the Flash. Sorry...that statement just struck me as so obvious it was funny. The real story is when you report a baby seal outrunning him. Yeah? Right?
1,7k👌
And another !!

Goooooooooood job
👍
I remember seeing a LOT of these plastic straps in a Walvis Bay clip. Couldn't the fisheries devise a better way to discard them?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

❤❤❤❤❤
Hello 🤗
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Does the sun ever shine in Namibia?
Almost throughout the day. We do our rescues in the morning, so you won't see it because the mornings are usually cold and foggy.
What do you guys do with the plastic you remove from the seals?
After each rescue, we photograph each individual entanglement and record details such as the sex and age of the Cape fur seal, the date and precise location of the rescue, and the type and severity of the entanglement. We then store all the items in our garage to ensure that they do not get to torture or kill another animal ever again.
We have in the past tried to reuse different materials to create objects like cutting boards and fridge magnets, but the process was unfortunately far too energy-demanding.

You are doing a great job. 🦭🦭🦭👍👍👍👍👍👋
