Netflix’s rated R content is trash. Their horror movies are god awful and not even scary. Same with most of their content in general. It’s all pretty bad. 😬🙄
If I'm telling the tale of the Great Streaming Wars of the 2020s to my grandkids in a few decades, I will consider my life to have been a pathetic waste of time and energy.
I agree 8f your talking to your grand kids about the streaming wars in 2020 your life will have been wasted ....smh Why the hell would you do that in the first place
Yes but when you say "Disney has every Disney movie." That means they have every movie that Disney has ever and will ever make directly. All content from National Geographic, Marvel, Star Wars, Fox, Pixar, ABC, and soon to be Hulu and ESPN. And that's just the movies. Disney+ also has over 7,500 TV episodes and counting. All of this content will only ever be available on Disney+ and not anywhere else. (Besides physical copies.) So I will gladly pay the big mouse in the sky half of what Netflix costs for all of that great content and smile while I watch it.
Not to mention that with so many studios starting their own streaming service, they will start pulling movies from Netflix. If Netflix doesn't play it's cards right, it could be relegated to the home of b-list movies.
pirating and illegal streaming is watching over Netflix and Disney fight waiting to crush them both. Unless Netflix joins up with A LOT of streaming services and gets a lot of content, pirating will win.
Steven Villman I have to give Netflix credit for giving us some weird R-rated contents such as the Babysitter, Rim of the World, or See You Yesterday. These looks like cookie cutter family friendly fairs and then all of a sudden the F-bombs are everywhere and it’s the kids who are saying these things. Sometimes it works and other not so much, but you wouldn’t see this on any Disney + contents.
They really should have had more new original content to go right off the bat, its not like streaming is this new phenomenon, it's not like Disney isn't one of the biggest companies around and the best they could do was one show, granted the Mandolorian has been pretty good so far but outside of a few other shows I've pretty much run out of things I want to watch already. Unless I just re watch things I like but have seen a bunch of times before but I'm not that kind of person that can just watch the same movies and shows multiple times, if I had amnesia or some sort of memory loss problem maybe but I don't so good movies and shows stick in my head and it makes re watching them more than a few times kind of boring which is what Disney is for me atm. Once my wife and kids are done watching some of the shows and movies they've seen before we will be cancelling Disney Plus as there's just not really enough to justify keep it for us.
Disney needs to get rid of the commercials on Hulu and keep the price and they'd have an even easier time winning. Probably wouldn't be necesary to do anything else.
Darth Obscurity I would easily cancel my Netflix subscription if they did that with hulu. They should’ve been done that by now, sounds like a really smart business move.
You guys know that Netflix is now a content creative juggernaut. Everyone can pull their stuff, netflix will still be the number one streaming service. The only thing that is a threat to Netflix is the upcoming HBO Max. That library is going to be ridiculous with Crunchyroll being a partner, and the entire WB/HBP library and Starz. Not to mention the cartoon network library. Good time to be a fan with deep pockets.
'Censorship controversies.' 'Little to No Anime' 'No R rated Content (I think that's what they said?).' 'Service started the worst possible by it not working.'
@@SevenAcid least some mature anime's have better character development and storyline then some of marvels/Disney's recent new films and anime's don't get bashed on as much and have bigger fan base depending what anime it is at times then newer Disney film depending what anime it is.
SevenAcid I don’t like anime but that’s no reason to bash him for it, and I’m not sure but if there’s no r rated content aside from a few marvel shows there’s really nothing I would watch
Kaycee Brown Official original content is released weekly not at once. (*update*) I just got it for free with Verizon. ...I’m glad it’s only 6.95. It’s very nostalgic but after awhile I don’t want to see just Disney so I stream hop etc... it’s cool but I wouldn’t pay $15.00 or more
Netflix will partner with another streaming service before it folds, that is for sure. I do not see peacock or HBO max lasting too long. Getting the DC content would be a must to compete against the Marvel content. Amazon has the money to last. Also what if Netflix partnered with Spotify and did bundle that way? That would almost certainly keep them ahead. Disney I dont think will be able to buyout any other streaming services. But who knows.
Underestimating those two, I bet HBO max and Peacock would last longer (these services have the biggest companies behind them WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal content respectively) Netflix would survive with other stuff though.
One major thing I hate about Netflix is that it rotates content out. The Last Samurai is one of my favorite movies ever, and they rotated it out in favor of more crappy movies I don't even want. I don't think that's going to be a problem with Disney+. Anyone else have this problem?
Disney just dropped everything Disney on Netflix won't be there in the next 3 months you probably wouldn't even know how many horror movies Disney actually produces under other film companies
They need to add more. I got it yesterday and I've just been watching some classic marvel cartoons. Not really a fan of the og disney productions except the lion king and some Pixar stuff I like but that's it.
Great video..new subscriber here!! I'm interested to see how Netflix goes forward from here..recently they entered a deal with Viacom/Nickelodeon to produce new content and bring in their entire library to Netflix which means two things: 1)The war has begun 2)Hello Drake and Josh
Great video, The Popcast. For full disclosure, as I own stock in both Apple and Disney, I have been watching these brands closely, as they enter the streaming game. In fact, I ran the table on Fox shares before the acquisition as it was a sweet deal to hold more Disney, Fox & cash shares post acquisiton. I foresee Apple acquiring Sony or Warner Brothers to ensure they have a large enough library to compete with Viacom/CBS, Peacock/NBC/Comcast Universal, HBO Max and Disney. Of course...there are other suitors: Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon. I really don’t see Disney merging Hulu. Instead, they will continue to bundle it, with ESPN+ so they can differentiate their family vs. non family orientated content. This market is no different than when media companies consolidated with tech giants in the 90s... remember AOL Time Warner, Sony Columbia Pictures? Or collaborations like Microsoft NBC? The most ironic thing about this... consumers will ditch bundled cable for their choice to pick and choose. It’s only a matter of time before someone, mostly like Telcos, who will bundle these streaming services at a lower cost and we’re back to having cable again.
Marketing Kitchen, yes! This is a great comment! We fully agree and have said multiple times that we will be right back on Cable as soon as they figure out how to bundle the streaming services. Well said! Thanks for your insight!
We cancelled Netflix because of lack of movies, which was the main reason why we got it in the 1st place years ago, we now have Disney plus because we like the content they have and most Pixar films (that our kids love) Also that Wyatt Earp part cracked me up! LOL!
Sean Collett I was saying the same thing😭who watches Star Trek, rip of Star Wars, plus he didn’t add that Disney has marvel/star wars/Pixar nobody is going to buy whatever cbs has to watch Star Trek
The Popcast: "Where else are you forced to sit and stare? Disney Rides??..." Mickey: "...Goofy, go find this 'The Popcast' and 'acquire' him. He has potential and we will make him ours!!!"
Best case for us consumers is 2 big streaming companies fighting over us and keeping prices down. Worst case 20 streaming channels pop up and you need them all to watch your shows. Worst worse case disney takes over everything and become the only choice.
"With 432 Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Golden Globe Award nominations, Netflix original programming is quickly climbing to the top". I'm not sure how long Netflix can stay at the top with original programming, given that they tend to cancel popular series after only 2 or 3 seasons. 😒
@@ThePopcast Totally agree. They should take a page from Hulu and release their original series one episode per week. This allows for buzz to to gradually accumulate on social media and in entertainment news, building more and more interest in a show from week-to-week. Look at the interest that Castle Rock generates for Hulu on a weekly basis - whereas with most Netflix series, the public buzz and media coverage mostly evaporates after a couple of weeks, no matter how good the show might be.
Every time I go on Netflix they remove good movies and replace them with some third-world garbage. They're become a foreign streaming service nobody in the first world will use it
@@SevenAcid Many are really looking forward to the 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' live-action TV series though. With the original creators running things, it has hopes running high that it will be an amazing show. I think it is scheduled for 5 (or was it 6?) seasons as of right now.
What you said at the end about explaining cable to the next generation is one reason why I find this so interesting. Right now, as 2020 approaches, we're getting a pretty good preview of what one of its defining pop culture phenomenons is going to be. Usually we only know what distinguishes a decade with hindsight.
Great Piece.. I think HBO MAX is going to be a big deal & you also have to consider Viacom merge with CBS. Netflix cannot sustain the billions of debt they are shelling out on ORGINAL content as the other companies are taking back theirs. I think you should cover that as the next piece you do my friend...
I closed my Netflix account months ago, and yet every month I get a notice by email that something is wrong with my account and they weren't able to collect payment. That kind of behaviour royally pisses me off and makes me more determined than ever to NEVER, EVER sign up with them again. Anyone else having this experience with their accounting department? I mean, way to loose customers who might consider coming back... Now I just subscribe to Disney+ and Amazon Prime.
A friend of mine got Disney Plus at work and he told me you get hardly any of the Pixar movies and very little of the Star Wars movies and very few Disney movies, he's thinking of cancelling the service.
Before I started streaming I was paying over $150 per month for cable/satellite. I now pay $8.99 for Netflix and $45 for Hulu + HBO, Showtime, and Starz. I’m still saving almost $100 so even if I paid for Disney + it wouldn’t cause me to dump Netflix.
As for why Hulu is not international, I think you may have forgotten what Hulu is. Hulu hold temporary licenses for it’s content. All of which has already been licensed to many other international companies for who knows how long.
Jacob that is a really good point. There are more complex deals, but we have spoken to someone who gave us some insight after this video was made and they could do it if they really wanted to, not moving those IPS that have deals with it. The feet dragging has a lot to do with cost and Disney Plus is also playing a roll although we couldn't find out exactly what... yet!
Me: (Looks at Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, CBS All Access, HBO Max, DC Universe and Disney Plus *This is getting out of hand! Now there are seven of them!*
I'm all for a highly competitive market but I'm concern about the after math because this happened with both cable and power providers (with different players of course). This led to having over priced content with poor customer service. So I guess as long as Disney doesn't have a strangle hold on another market and providers aren't ripping off customers I'll be excited to see the outcome of this whole thing.
Here are my predictions on the streaming wars: 1: I think you're spot on about Disney merging Hulu into D+. However, I don't think it will occur until after NBC/Universal starts their streamer and (likely) pulls out of Hulu. Or they might just keep Hulu separate by renaming it ABC+ then permanently bundle it with ESPN+ (All sports content on ABC uses the ESPN branding anyway) 2: With the pending CBS-Viacom reunification, I think CBS+ will be combined with Viacom's Pluto TV app. 3: I think regular broadcast TV will stay around for awhile. Even though the FCC is now limiting the channels to 2 - 36. 4: Netflix will also still be around and will likely partner with independent and foreign studios. (Like the people who make "Das Boot" for example.) They obviously won't be as huge as D+ but they'll still dominate over the niche ones like Acorn, Britbox, Popcornflix, & Pureflix.
David, yes! Totally agree with #1. if they don't move, they need to make use of the ABC brand with ESPN. #2 we also agree this will happen and that's going to make Pluto TV a player although I would rename it to a brand we are more familiar with. #3 Yes, it will likely be a slow decline for years to come. and #4 I do agree that will be Netflix's first move, but I think they'll have to go further by merging with NBC/Universal or another big player. Great Thoughts!
@@ThePopcast Yeah, I agree they should rename Pluto. Either by emphasizing the CBS brand or use the Paramount name in some form like the 1970s era PTV (Paramount Television Service). I think what will keep broadcast TV going is the local factor (Streamers work more efficiently when operated like Cable or Satellite TV). However, it's possible to do a local streaming news/weather service for each city and on the CBS+ app you can watch your local CBS news affiliate live.
The problem with Netflix is that they have no in house production. They will have a difficult time controlling cost. Disney responds to Netflix is Hulu. Once they bring FX and Fox Searchlight capabilities to Hulu. They will have some of the best originals. The R rated marvel shows will appear eventually on Hulu. Basically they know every Marvel fan will have to get both Disney + and Hulu. So they will end up getting the bundle instead. Netflix has already peaked domestically and will have a harder time gaining more subs in the US.
PS many of the streaming services now also allow you to share your prescription with family members as long as you're not a criminal it could be just one subscription per family. For instance UA-cam TV and UA-cam premium openly allow you to share it with up to 6 people. But if you're looking to be ultra cheap and buy one subscription and share it with thousands of your friends let me tell you something there on to you.
They have a virtually endless budget, have a shit ton of popular movies owned by them, and good content while being advertised at a lower price. Netflix mainly has loyalty(and i forgot what else i was planning to say for netflix rip)
Netflix is way better. Disney is the same over and over. Netflix has so much options and things come and go so you get new content regularly. Let's pump the breaks. They both have a place in this world. I would hope Disney still let's Netflix have access to some movies and shows.
and thats why the fan park is devoid of people they increase prices ot make up for it and at this rate they will price themsevles out and netflix knows this
@@ThePopcast ya and i can guarnatee once a few services die the prices will go up and it will shove more people to piracy and they dont care they use laws and penalties not competition
The only downside to those 2-4 streaming winners is that all of them down the line will run ads unless you can fork out that extra $3-5 on top of their monthly membership so you don't have see ads.
How many of those streaming services exist outside the USA? Netflix and Amazon. Netflix are already streaming shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Titans this side of the pond.
With all these different streaming services costing as much or more than a cable subscription, I can see why pirate websites are still a thing. If I had to choose between signing up for 3 different services to watch the shows I want, or going to one pirate site for free, guess which one is has more appeal.
The Disney plus lineup is HORRIBLE. There are nothing but crappy shows except for that Mandarin show. Disney's film vault is laughably overrated, and there's only so many times people are going to watch the same old cartoon movies.
But Disney+ only has Disney related content and I’ll take Netflix over that for R rated material and non Disney movies. I can watch only so much Disney
SevenAcid yes but did you know they’re willing to censor horror movies in order to make them pg13, an example is Stay Alive, the gore was toned down and the story was dumbed down, and horror movies would never appear on Disney+ since it’s supposed to be for families
I don't think Disney+ will absorb Hulu because that is their only way to distribute TV-MA and R rated content. They should expand Hulu as well but some Hulu content is distributed by other companies in other countries. In Canada, Runaways airs on Showcase and Future Man airs on FX.
disney plus global by 2022 is a mistake, I would have subscribed at launch just like a lot of people, but now I have to wait and just download their content. and now that people are downloading their content, it's an incentive not to pay for a disney plus subscription once it eventually comes here
CBS All Access is screwed if all it has to rely on are STD and The Twilight Zone reboot. Neither show is at all capable of carrying the streaming service. No one is really bothering to subscribe for either, rather, they're signing up for the sports, and even that may move over to another streaming service soon.
@@ThePopcast well its certainly not the case right now! most of the streamers you listed don't exist outside of the united states, hulu, CBS all access, and even the ones that do like neflix have far less content outside the states compared to the neflix site thats available in America. those boundaries are like digital iron curtains at this point. there would have to be a major change before overseas territories got the same level of service that exists in the US
Disney+ free to Verizon. Interesting. Basic Hulu is free to Sprint customers with unlimited plans. That means a Disney streaming service is free to a substantial number of US customers already.
Exaggeration! Disney plus has nothing of interest coming for a year after the mandalorian ends. The marvel stuff only comes in 2021. I got both and Netflix offers way more content. Heck you got more content in amazon. Disney + year one is terrible. That is why they are trying to fool people with a one year "cheap" deal. Cause you will be paying for nothing. But, when the marvel stuff starts coming in it might be worth it.
Every one of my friends with small children is excited for the content on Disney+. Only one person mentioned a couple of the classic films that are not there yet.
It's about retention not current content. Amazon has good retention because of it's shipping service, Disney has good retention because of it's massive back catalogue and marquee IP's, what does Netflix have right now that guarantee's retention, there big advantage is their large user base and brand recognition. The other content producers don't have enough IP's to stand alone so they're going to have to band together so they will either merge into a mega streamer or they pick which alternative to be exclusive to, right now their choices are get absorbed by Disney or get exclusive contracts(in descending order or likely-hood) with Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, or UA-cam Red.
Wow! I also have both, with Disney+ being a bit early to review, but I will say this Disney+ content appears to be way more streamlined to a larger audience and just plain easier to navigate. Also Netflix still has quite a bit of content that’s owned by Disney, what will happen when those programs are no longer on Netflix? I give Netflix props on original series and documentary series, but their movie content is way off. Anyway I’m likely to keep Netflix for right now, but I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it a year from now,
Just like MGM does with their classic disconnect, I've NEVER heard of epixnow and I am blown away that they aren't making the stargate franchise available when it is a slam dunk customer bringer. It's a damn shame and they need to get with it.
Right before Marvel was sold to Disney it was broken up because it went bankrupt or at least almost did and most of it went to Fox and Spiderman went to Sony
@@SevenAcid so if a man does not watch movies at theaters he becomes a cuck boy according to some rando on internet . gtfo here dipshit. and if he is boycotting its his choice dont need to give him bullshit.
I will pose this question that I asked last week. What is better, shows like Stargate and Babylon 5 getting bought up by the Mouse or is it better for them to just be mothballed?
Such a good question Jer. While it's scary with the number of shows that are not doing well in our new social climate, we would still like to see them moving forward with new content from Stargate and Babylon 5. I think there is enough pushback these days that they have to take into consideration our counter culture and what we want. Too many people going broke. Great question stud!
The mistake is thinking it's a zero-sum game. Most people that are getting Disney are keeping there NetFlix. A major part the decline of cable was that it was to bloated and to expensive. Streaming services provide a more cost effective way for people to watch their shows. Yes, and multi-platform conveniences is an obvious part of that. However, with streaming being more affordable and only paying for what you want, people aren't abandoning one for the other. Rather, they're getting both.
Ye I expect it won’t be long till Disney owns Hulu outright and see it to put their adult content on it. Once I move and get my full time job I’m all for getting Disney+ as my streaming service.
You forgot to mention Disney’s underrated purchase of Bamtech in 2016. Probably the dark horse purchase of the 2010’s and also The streaming backbone of Hulu and many more streaming services.
I did the Disney + free trial. I was honestly kind of underwhelmed. Sure they have stuff like star wars and marvel, which are big names and of course good films, but most of their movies and programs are aimed at kids. Everything on the platform feels weirdly sterile and disneyfied. Which of course, makes sense. I think Disney will be successful with the family-friendly market for sure. But if I had to pick one streaming service myself I would stick with Netflix. Yeah, their original content can be hit or miss, but they have a much larger library of content with both family-friendly and adult-oriented films and shows. It is nice to have available a platform to watch Disney and Pixar's animations, but I noticed even a few of those are missing... like Toy Story 4 and some animated shows like Wander Over Yonder. As an animation fan, it's almost worth it for the animated content, but I also don't want a streaming service JUST for Disney Animation necessarily. For one thing, I was unsurprised to find Disney+ offers nothing in the way of horror films. Unsurprising, but as a fan of horror kind of a potential deal-breaker. Ultimately, Disney is a powerhouse at what it does. But its obsession with keeping a squeaky clean, idyllic family-friendly image means there are tons of shows and films it likely won't touch. Which leaves Netflix and others room to improve and gain an advantage. Just my observation.
That may be true for streaming but Netflix still delivers physical media to rent that is not on their streaming que...An edge Disney and all the other "streaming," services do not have.
There is always going to be a market for well-crafted stories with dynamics characters dealing with adult issues, which is not the focus of Disney Plus. Most people will be subscribed to Disney Plus as an additional streaming service, not their only streaming service or a replacement streaming service for Netflix, Hulu, or Prime Video.
Really, this streaming war will likely wind up like the console wars of years past, some people will get one, some 2, if one has the money they might get all of them. But they will be getting different ones for different content. I like disney but I also like some of the things Netflix provides so I'll be keeping with netflix and might add Disney+ at some point. However, ones like CBS all access would likely be better teaming up with a larger streaming service as if one gets too narrow/limited there might not be much reason to subscribe, more so for those of us in areas where streaming is iffy at times (rural, possibly on satellite internet) and the service we use currently also allows us to rent discs as well as stream.

By the way we already have a Disney streaming service called Disney Life which has most of the Disney shows but can not wait to upgrade to Disney Plus. Thanks
Disney+ might be advertised everywhere but the only thing they got on it is The Mandalorian and Star Wars stuff people have already seen. Otherwise it's basically $6.99/mo to stream the next Pixar movie. Why? If you really want to stream a Disney/Pixar, just buy it for $2.99 on youtube. Who the hell watches more then two of those a month outside the theater? HBO max has South Park, all new HBO shows, BBT, Doctor Who, the CW, and probably most DC stuff. Netflix has ... well netflix. I don't get it.
While watching this, a Disney+ ad came up. Talk about on the nose. Honestly though, I'm surprised that people are just barely noticing the amount of power DSNY has.
Disney did not make and does not own "The Karate Kid," but Disney did make and does own "Tombstone." Disney's Hollywood Pictures division released "Tombstone" in the 1990's, and it is one of thousands of titles that Disney owns and that it has not made available on Disney+, yet.

Dennis B : Universal owns NBC Peacock 😬 they’ll be pulling all their stuff too
They keep removing decent content and replacing it with third world content they won't last much longer
Too much market saturation is bad for everyone.
Wait didnt Universal get the rights to make a Nintendo Land theme park? I think there's a bigger war is brewing hahah.

We cancelled Netflix because of lack of movies, which was the main reason why we got it in the 1st place years ago, we now have Disney plus because we like the content they have and most Pixar films (that our kids love)
Also that Wyatt Earp part cracked me up! LOL!
Look at how they’re massacring my my boy
CBS does not have a large fan base with Star Trek: Discovery.
Disney Rides??..."
Mickey: "...Goofy, go find this 'The Popcast' and 'acquire' him.
Well said! And The Mooner, I think they need a moratoreum on whether releasing whole seasons at a time is really the best method.
They're become a foreign streaming service nobody in the first world will use it
@@SevenAcid
Many are really looking forward to the 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' live-action TV series though.

9:18 love the shade about Stargate b/c it's so true! hahaha
Yeah really! Stargate and James Bond, WTF?! Somebody doesn't want to try!
Update, Stargate is currently on Netflix.
Can't believe they haven't updated that dmv building. I remember getting my license there 30 years ago.
Here are my predictions on the streaming wars:
1: I think you're spot on about Disney merging Hulu into D+. However, I don't think it will occur until after NBC/Universal starts their streamer and (likely) pulls out of Hulu. Or they might just keep Hulu separate by renaming it ABC+ then permanently bundle it with ESPN+ (All sports content on ABC uses the ESPN branding anyway)
2: With the pending CBS-Viacom reunification, I think CBS+ will be combined with Viacom's Pluto TV app.
Lol hulu has more live tv than just cbs dummy you can watch espn tbs etc smh dumbass
Whelp guys it looks like the second golden age of piracy is about to kickoff.

That's why I have both for now but do you know how many horror movies Disney makes under other Studios
SevenAcid I know but how many do you think will be on this app
SevenAcid yes but did you know they’re willing to censor horror movies in order to make them pg13, an example is Stay Alive, the gore was toned down and the story was dumbed down, and horror movies would never appear on Disney+ since it’s supposed to be for families
I don't think Disney+ will absorb Hulu because that is their only way to distribute TV-MA and R rated content. They should expand Hulu as well but some Hulu content is distributed by other companies in other countries. In Canada, Runaways airs on Showcase and Future Man airs on FX.

Well, I guess I'm old....when I look at the Disney + menu I think I may never watch anything else!

Just my observation.
disney needs to be stoped
That may be true for streaming but Netflix still delivers physical media to rent that is not on their streaming que...An edge Disney and all the other "streaming," services do not have.
You cannot forget Crave + HBO + Movies + Starz (owned by Bell Media) in Canada that is also trying to take Netflix down a notch
Nobody has to worry.
Diney/Netflix provide different content.
And Amazon will stay as the streaming service providing scraps.
