Some of the biggest hacks I know are guys that have been “doing this for 30 years.” I often wonder what they have spent those 30 years doing because it wasn’t spent getting better at their job.

@@JBra1382 most new systems come with filter driers inside the condenser it’s there way of protecting the compressor for warranty purposes is what we were told. Even tho the filter drier is made to protect the txv or cap. Tubes
That wrap over the lineset has become a code requirement in Arlington, VA! Be careful if there’s a splice in the low voltage wiring. Those wraps will trap water inside them and will create a low voltage short or a communication fault.

We’ve adopted it for all of our installations to avoid getting a failure on the inspection. We had no clue until we had an install of a heat pump system get a failure in Arlington County which is right outside of Washington DC.

Setting up the pop up tent takes less than five minutes. If you have to rope it up a roof, it's light and simple. Yes it's "Another thing" but it's worth it. The product itself? Interesting and probably provides value to the customer. I have no idea what it costs. It looks nice. I'm a commercial technician with previous (and current lol) residential experience. Cost is relative. Also. When you're the boss, what you says goes whether it's viable or not. So there's that as well... Not drawing any solid conclusions besides I like the product and would try it on my next install depending on price. Leave the judgment to the gods, exempt it from your mouth and key board if applicable
He was there for hours brazing the condenser, leak testing, pulling down a vacuum, releasing the refrigerant and testing the equipment. Don’t forget he started the video saying he had to install an evaporator coil too. Long day, why not set up the tent?

One thing your helper forgot to do before he swept was tape those copper lines nice and tight so nothing gets in them. Last thing you want in a new system is debris inside those copper lines, could really ruin the new compressor and could get inside your coil and potentially also clog your txv inside the furnace coil. Great video though. Do more install vids!
Yep it'll be a pita for any service tech to do a maintenance check up on this ac condenser later. BTW why did he claim this is a quality installation with 2nd tier "Run Through" condenser? WHY NOT Trane ? Lol

Nice stuff, the 6' roll is approx $28. It may be code in some areas to protect the insulation with a UV protection of some sort and this fits the bill. I would suggest turning the unit 90 degrees to allow better access for servicing. It is a pain to work on a unit when it's crammed against a wall or between two units that aren't installed to manufacturers specs. Just a suggestion
OK I just want to know why you didn't put one of those prefabbed plastic pads on the concrete pad ? The company that installed my AC and my neighbors AC did that . It makes sense because it keeps the unit from sitting in any standing water . I know it is hard to tell on screen but that pad looks like it was leaning toward the house .
And that’s the issue. I try to do this type of work but it costs me more. And “the other guy was a $1000 cheaper” line comes out. Then you go back and look at their job and go. Oh. Yeah. That’s why. But the homeowner just sees a new unit. Never looks details or compares apples to apples.

You also don’t have to go after every job. Some people are dead set on paying the absolute lowest price regardless of quality. I simply excuse myself from consideration for those jobs and thank them for their time. On to the the next one.
Regardless of what you do how you do it I salute you my friend you make craft not bs you admire your work your details I like it very rarely hard to find are people like you. Your work shows who you are I can relate lol sometimes it does take up a lot of time haha but it’s consistency is good 👍

I dont see haters but realistic folks. Line sets should always be treated with caution. No water, no dirt/dust debris, and critters. I dont care if a system has a filter dryer or not. Would you want a surgical room filthy for an operation to let dirt get into your veins or arteries? Refrigeration is no different
I disagree, I think aesthetically it does not look as good as fresh armaflex. However, I do think it prolongs the life which is the customer’s investment. I think the box that covers the penetration trough the wall is nice I really liked that part but the wrapping around the Line set I don’t think was appealing

I would have really pressured the customer to relocate the new condenser far away from that dryer vent. :( If the customer is good, it's gonna be yearly housing-off cleaning for that unit until the day it dies. If the customer is bad, it'll be a lot of life taken off that unit with each choking episode between 2-3 year cleanings. The customer will only have it cleaned when the compressor cuts off on thermal or high pressure or starts bypassing.
Money would have been better spent on a new line set that's correct size3/4 and a filter drier. Otherwise do like product but leave room for temp probs

I’ve always said, there are 2 types of installs, ones by installers who don’t care about servicing and ones by service guys who actually have to work on the unit.

I put one of those linset cover on a job the other day and it really made it look nice. I told the boss grab more of those.

A fresh pad and some 3 inch pumps would have helped even more. That concrete pad reflects compressor and unit operation noise.
I would add an angle attachment to the dryer vent to direct the vent flow away from the condenser unit.

We use UV jackets out here in CA all the time. Its needed for inspections by the city . They do look nice though

Seems a little like overkill, but UV rated pipe insulation would be nice. The new easy pull line sets are deteriorated after a year if not protected
