Hey gang, thought we'd have a wee chat and I'll show you around my new set up and what's coming up in the near future. Instagram: @uniquegardenart @canadiansucculentguy
Hey Gris...thanks for the tour...you've made great use of the space you have...I struggle with that, got shit all over the place...I'm into too many crafts....So, a couple years ago my son bought me a chop saw, at my request and I loved it so last summer I bought myself a table saw and a band saw, upgraded my drill, etc... the table saw is amazing for me. I had never done any kind of wood work but always liked "men that smell like wood"...lol....anyways...I started by making bird houses, then outdoor lanterns, vintage tool boxes(trugs), blanket ladders, a mid century modern plant stand ...I was really enjoying it all, my sister is good at painting and decorating these things so she helped out. Then I was doing yard work and long story short a lopper saw fell and hit me in the head and I had a concussion which put me out of commission for awhile and then winter hit...I'm learning as I go, all mistakes are a learning curve...Snow is falling every other day it seems, going to be a long time before all that melts and I can go to my garage and have some fun....Take care...stay safe....(it's really bad in Ontario)....
Wow ,that sounds great ! Love to see your work ( I smell like cedar BTW)🤣. I think it's great you just went for it and started creating.Ouch sorry for your misfortune and hopoe you're on the mend. So Far this year it's been mild and not a lot of snow ,hope I didn't just jinx it. You take care and TTYL.
Hey gris, great tour of the new space. Downsizing space can be a challenge. In years past I used to have 3 garages for my woodworking. Used to build canoes and had lot of room for it. Then I moved... One single garage! Then I moved again, no more garage! A shed, a bench in the furnace room, and a spare bathroom to do all my work. I spend as much time organizing as I do working but try to keep it efficient and tidy enough that the wife doesn't build me a permanent dog house! I make it work but I do miss my first place lol. I currently have a bathroom full of pieces being covered in latex. Even have a table in the bathtub to work on lol. I feel your pain for working with resins and smells, going to give the plaster route a try this time around so I can do it indoors. Anyway, if you ever want to play a game of Tetris to see who can fit the most stuff in a small space count me in. Keep up the great work and stay safe.
Hey Mister Gris, glad to see back on the tube , i look forward to your new adventures in mold makimg & the use of new products. Look forward to your informative videos ... A stranger from down under
G day Eduaurdo from down under! Thought I would have made a couple of vids already but oddly enough been busy with other random tasks .Soon though ,very soon.
Lol, well funny , now I'm retired .I will start doing molds again .Probably this fall, enjoying having the time to catch up on house projects and relaxing a bit.
So i decided to try the diamond cutting disc with the Dremel and it cut great but the Dremel would Bough down so i discovered that the roto zip has a culet that is small enough to fit the Dremel bit with the diamond disc. the roto zip has a ton more power. I gave it a try and it is a must try . it cuts so easy , I can cut circles with it with no bough down what so ever on the lowest speed setting.
Hi, which one of your tutorial videos has the bit about using the stuff from inside cushions to pack out any gaps in the moulds in order to help me release the fibreglass jackets as I've had some trouble with releasing it from the mould as it's getting stuck behind crevasses like feet ect. many thanks for all your videos
Compact is good, we work from a table and a very small 12x10 workshop. Certainly not into big sales, but as we are also semi-retired, we can take it as fast or slow as we like. Concreting is limited by the weather, but that's ok :)
Still wrapping my head around fast and slow .Always been a production kinda guy ,but am slowly letting it sink in I can drop it a few gears now.Love your work, your finishes are top notch!
@@mrconcreteartisan It will happen and I am sure you will adapt and enjoy it. Appreciate your comments very much. We do take a lot of pride in out work. Sadly the timing is bad with the current situation and we are based in the countryside with no passing trade. But hopefully the craft shows may be allowed to function in the foreseeable future.
Hi griz! Love your videos The one thing I’d like to see more of I’d the latex seems ... I know you use magazine paper .... but the big but is how does it separate without making a mess... does the magazine paper really have enough of a barrier for it to cleanly separate ? If you have a video showing this let me know ... thank you for making great content before retiring
What kind of lights are you using for the succulents? I'm about to start some seedlings inside for the first time. Getting a jump on my garden this year. I was thinking of going to Lowe's or Home Depot to get some hanging lights for the shelf. Needing to research the best bulbs for it.
I have never used the silicone rubber /Brush on 40. I am wondering does it stretch well like latex and does it tear easily ? The first mold I made years ago i used regular silicone from the tube from Home Depot, ( Latex being so expensive ). It worked well but it would tear very easy . Once a little crack started it would just keep tearing so I am wondering if it is the same thing.
Yes ,it does stretch ,but not as much as latex .It's pretty tough stuff and it can be repaired as well which is a bonus. I have a chap coming to pick up some brush on molds tomorrow ,maybe Ill do a stretch demo for ya tom.
Hi there. I have a question about pouring concrete in latex rubber molds when you have very thin parts. Wondering if you add resin or some other casting material to make thin pieces more reliable. Thank you!!
Just a tech question to the guru of moulding. In one of your videos you mentioned latex lifting off the mould plug during the making of the mould. Any idea what causes this? I just had similar experience over a concrete plug. You also mentioned sucking the air out with something. Does that cure it? I'm thinking about a syringe , but it's hard to penetrate the rubber.
Perlite tends not to incorporate well into your mix. There are some paper by products that can be incorporated. I know some peeps have put vermiculite in their mix as well.
Great to see you back for the attack, Gris! Rock on brother! PS: what time of the day do you workout? Do you do it early in the morning, or later in the day? Happy retirement too, although it doesn't sound like you have retired! :D Wishing you well for your new adventures! :)
Morning Mark, I see you've been keeping your self busy as well.I'm not a early morning lifting guy, need to be mobile for a few hours .So early afternoon is my goal. We are almost done at the shop , a small handful of molds left. Then a last clean up and that's it.Try to keep myself busy throughout the day ,I'm too fiddgety to be a good retiree.
@@mrconcreteartisan I'm trying to be more efficient. Haha!! :D Organisation was never a strong point of mine. :D You have lots of energy, Gris! I'm wondering what is in the water over there! :D I think I missed the boat on your molds. It has been a bit hectic here recently. :o Looking forward to seeing what you get up to with your new ventures! :)
@@mrconcreteartisan Yes, I bet! :o I'm hoping to make some more molds around summer time, which means more likely fall/autumn with how my timing works out! :D
Yes' I have since that vid. But not currently ,I'm retired ,still wanting to do mold work but it's been an incredibly busy year .Hope to return to it soon.
Hey Gris! Do you only sell locally through your store or do you sell online as well? Looking to sell some of my statues online and hoping to gain some advice or good resources when it comes to shipping heavy items. I know most people ship ‘smalls’ but wondering if it’s possible to ship larger items? Thanks!

Anybody know how to demould a planter mould to take out the center core piece can never get it out always messes the concrete if I take it out to early messes the pot if I leave too late it gets stuck
Hello, I read that you've retired, so not sure if you're still doing UA-cam videos? I'm looking to find out how to do the bottom opening of a small songbird with Latex rubber. You have a songbird on your UA-cam profile page (sandwiched between two chunky birds), very similar to a concrete bird I want to mold (mine is a 4" bird). If you're still doing UA-cam videos, would you be willing to post one on how to get the small rounded opening (with the flange)? My first attempt at making a Latex mold from the bird, resulted in a squared bottomed. Thank you! =)

i tried smooth on. Mixed it gram to gram perfect with an electric mixer. The statue never cured and was mess. almost $400 down the drain.

Found this video on UA-cam of a casting technique . Thought it was interesting and wanted to share.
I don't see a link Tom!?

About your bird baths I heard that there is no such thing as non toxic paint for them. So what do you suggest to do? Also what would you seal it with?
