Lee how about fab a system to hang a rack in the oven so you can pre hang the parts on a rack then powder coat slide the rack into the without touching the parts then slide the rack out to cool Mike
Yup, I like that idea
I'd put that oven on a 18 inch or so riser so you don't have to crouch down and awkwardly try and hang stuff in the oven box.
Amen. Your older back will thank you. Carl, TX
Love the home powder coating system!
Another great show! Loving the progress.
Thanks again!
Lee, if you're going to do much more Powder Coating, do yourself a favor and place your oven on top of a shelf or cabinet to get it a little more out an even height with your booth.
Much less chance of a transfer mishap.
Awesome Lee, love to see your progress. Keep up the good work Sir!
I run a similar style powdercoat setup--I found a second junk oven, cut the top off the bottom one and the bottom off the top one, bolted the doors together and it really increased the capability of the setup.
And it was basically free cause it was just a junk oven.
That's a great idea!
Spreadbore as mentioned above is true other than driveability. It has the best of all the worlds for a street vehicle. Small primaries for great throttle response/driveability and fuel economy. Very large secondaries for when needed. The primaries use a vacuum metering rod for better fuel control to also enhance these things. The secondaries use a fuel metering rod also but controlled by flaps above the venturies opened by incoming vacuum pressure. Chrysler's thermoquad had a plastic body, hence the "thermo" to help with vaporlocking. Now you ask squarebore well. If you go racing, you only see a Holley. They dump fuel to make power and are very tuneable. The Carter AFB/Edelbrock carb is a simple kinda design with less going on than a quadrajet. It is about in the middle for performance and economy. Application dictates the best CFM and carb type. Hope this helps as I've built/sorted/chosen countless carburators for a lot of years.
Thanks for explaining.
...most excellent Repoman shirt, Lee...made me smile.......also, I never realized powder coating was that simple......
Best movie ever
Nice truck 👍
Great video Lee! Now you need to invest in some specialty tapes so you don't have to run the die over the threads. Silicone plugs for threaded holes.
I recently picked up some high heat tape. Good idea with the hole plugs
Great show Lee, and you are right on, the A&N stands for Army Navy....keep up the great work Lee....:-)
Your content is excellent as always keep it going Lee👍😂
Thanks!
Great work truck and cool too
This build is one of your better series/builds. It can teach/show the steps to repower any project. It takes a lot of guesswork out of a major step of hotrodding/carbuilding.
good show😎👍
Dude!!! Great video!!! The powder coating addition to the shop is nice!!! Maybe an option to your parts catalog!?✌️
Definitely a great idea
Liking the powder coat setup.. good comments on the rack setup and the riser for the oven, we used heat treat ovens which all had doors that opened vertically so the hot door was out of the way.. 1700+ F probably more work than its worth for your setup but if you ever go powder coat crazy, well there your go!
Mate had a couple ! Best for you snd family just love the duelly cummins
Nice work - fittings are always a pain!
Good work, sir. I dig the powder coating station.
Great video!
Another great video ! Nice attention to detail - craftmanship and informative as usual. There are some great suggestions on the powder-coat set up in the comments - so I'll just say congrats on the up-grade to the shop. Sorry you miss'd out on the "T" bucket parts in your last video. That look'd like a good deal.
Realistically, I have like six projects already, I probably didn’t need that T haha
36:49 GM Quadrajet carbs (spread bore) were made for fuel economy. Small primaries and large secondaries.
Chrysler made the Thermoquad which was a spread bore also.
Power coating turns out great 👍
Looks good 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for sharing!
12:25 could get another stove, hack them both up, and weld them back together to gain almost twice the height. Would just have to extend the bake element wiring with the wire from the discarded stove.
Someone else also suggested that! Thanks for the idea
I'd watch a video about lowering the square body Chebby. Just sayin... It looks great!
Haha thanks. I’m sure lots of people would. But I try to keep this channel focused on earlier cars.
Metal coat hangers can be used for your powder coating. Make sure to remove any coating from them.
I just bought a roll of mechanics wire. Cheap and easy
Killer man, idea, would raising the oven make transferring the parts from the booth to the oven less cumbersome...
Possibly, yup!
I'm at Esquimalt bake shop. Yum yum. I got a gift for you
That powder coat oven needs a pedestal to bring it up to eye level!
Does it? It’s not like I’m standing there watching it the whole time haha. I just open the door, put it in, and come back 20 minutes later.
Same as putting your favorite casserole in the oven at home.
I commented while my back is aching!
Very cool PC setup. 🫵🏼💯🆒
Cant you powder coat the parts on the rack then put the parts and rack into the oven ?
Probably. But the rack does not slide very gracefully going in and out of the oven.
Why not spray them while they are hanging from the oven rack? Then you could just slide the oven rack into the oven to bake.
Powder overspray in a booth can easily be contained and cleaned up. If your booth is clean enough, the powder overspray can even be reused.
If you sprayed it on the oven rack, all that powder overspray would get in the oven, melt from the heat, and eventually the inside of your oven would be completely powder coated.
Why don't you hang everything on the rack outside of the oven and then slide the rack in??
The rack does not slide in and out very gracefully and I’m worried it’ll either shake the powder off the parts, or the parts will actually fall off the rack.
Lee , I have a 47 dodge thats the same color, i’ve been following this build. Did they give you a formula sheet, none of the paint shops in my area can get the color cause they only made it like 36-50, and I don’t have a piece to take down and scan.
No, they just scanned it and handed me a can
What brand gun are you using?
Eastwood
A big block Rat motor in a Canadian Dodge is sacrilegious. Dodge makes many big block engines that would have been a better choice. 372? 426? 440? I don’t understand his choice of engine.
His engine choice was simple, he already owned the big block Chevy and knew this history on it. It was sitting in his garage right next to the Fargo when I went and looked at it.
Besides, at the end of the day does it matter? These trucks never came with a big block dodge either, so what difference does it make? Brand loyalty has never been a part of hot rodding.
As @gordsmith7656 said below, raise it up. Washer makers offer riser units that include a finished drawer. Mine is only 12" tall, but got one free when daughter upgraded laundry equipment. Top it with 3/4 plywood and mount anything. Carl, TX
