Wish I would have seen this great video sooner. Rescued a juniper ripped out of the ground at a construction site. Figured I should remove the nice needles as I only got a few roots around the broken stump. Should have kept the needles for water retention, did the opposite of what I should have done. Hope it somehow makes it, but I am doubtful. Keep your eyes out for construction demolition areas…Yamadori glory….the pile of old junipers was so high, I couldn’t pull out the nicer ones. There were cherry trees too, but I didn’t look through that pile. Ask the construction workers first! They thought I was very crazy. Was driving my convertible and had to haul it in my passenger seat..then a careful vacuum the mess out of my nice car…everything was fine. Would have made a great video!

Thank you for a great video.
100% of my trees are yamadories, but half of them have died so far.
I have only done this for less then a year, and this learned me a lot.
(and yes, i have learned that many of them died because i drawned them because i wanted to keep a lot of the original soil around the roots and watered them every day)
    Thank you!

When you store the trees in the black plastic bag are they getting enough air and water?
Or do you open the bag and water the trees?

Decided to try this method with a big Quercus pubescens tree which i took out without any roots. Is't more of a hail mary, but let's hope it works...
Are there any specifics about where to keep the tree during this period (suitable temperature, sun exposure, etc)

So does he collect deciduous in winter because he has time because he collects evergreen in spring or because it’s the best time? I would have thought that if you’re cutting off a lot of roots then you’re removing a lot of the trees energy which is stored in the roots over winter.

Superthrive is an actual product. It has vitamin b, growth auxins and napthyl acetic acid amongst other ingredients for recovering trees and encouraging new growth. We can't get it here in Australia any more as the importing of it has been banned but there is other similar products available.
