Hi everyone! just wanted to say thanks, as always, for watching! and thanks for liking and commenting, that really helps us out!, and if you want to see early content on our patreon, we have 3 videos up over there, that you can watch right now, and if not, then no worries! those videos will be out in the coming weeks, and we appreciate you all the same! thanks everybody!!!!
Where do you sell your bottles. Bought some on etsy....I'd rather buy yours.
I am impressed by your ability to swiftly catagorise the muddy bottles.
At least you didn't find any dead bodies.
Thankyou for sharing.
Very cool videos. I enjoy them a lot.
This popped up on my home page so I gave it a look and what I noticed is you do a TON of editing to educate the viewers on the finds. And that’s a lot of hours spent. Damn good job it was totally worth it in my opinion. Thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
I need a bath after watching this one. I am genuinely impressed. Your commitment, passion and work ethic are next level. Great dig!!!
😅
He must be really fit to do this work.
Ew! That was a messy dig.😊
I wanna know more about crusty boot
Hi from Australia,we love how you include all the information about the bottles you find.
Got to give you a LOT of credit ! Between the colapse, the smell & filth, I don't think I would have completed the dig. You're the man.
haha yeah, jake wanted to just be done after that collapse, but if we had left it, we wouldnt have found that peterson bottle, which was by far the best bottle in there.. was it worth it? probably not, but hey.. if i didnt finish it i would have always wondered lol. thanks for watching, we really appreciate the comment
I know that others have said the same, but I will say it again. We really appreciate the extra work that you do in putting the information on what you find on the screen for us. It really makes the whole experience more enjoyable. Plus, it shows how much you know what you're talking about. 😊
haha i really appreciate that! that by far takes the longest to do in the videos.. its kind fun, to learn more about this stuff myself, but.. yeah i want to make this an enjoyable, fun experience, and i really appreciate you letting us know
I can't believe you stayed down there and kept digging even with the smell, mud, and cave in!. Amazing!
"Mud"...yeah...
Dude I would not have been in that pit for anything you are amazing and I know all your hard work has payed off Thanks for sharing ❤️👍♥️🗝️
haha thank you! yeah it was a terrifying nightmare.. and it was pretty gross lol. thanks for watching and commenting
Your video came across my feed. I stop to watch and now I am hooked. It’s not every day you find someone with your passion for what you are doing rescuing these old relics and giving us the chance to see them. Thank you for putting this contest out and thank you for all the side bar knowledge you present with every bottle great job keep digging and sending us more videos to watch. You guys are awesome.
I just can't stop watching you digging in the dirt! Pulling out old bottles, what a great treasure hunt!
Surprised the ground water preserved the wooden sides so well, sorry to hear early on that it preserved the smells as well. That was a haul you don't see very often. Glad the side wall slip wasn't any worse than it was, you have some serious skills on finding those pits!
yeah, how do you know where exactly to dig down? that was precision work.
@@tuexss : He does a lot of research through old historical records, plot maps, and photos, in preparation for his digs. He already has already narrowed the search area down to "Most likely" spots, before he starts probing the ground.
That, and people being creatures of habit, they tend to put the outhouses in similar locations on a property.... Downwind from the building, not a very far walk, etc.
What an awesome excavation. Thank you so much for your dedication to rescuing and saving our history. Thanks for letting me come along. From Ohio.
of course! i appreciate you always leaving us a comment! yeah it was a cool video to put together, i just wish there would have been a better variety of items inside, and especially some more embossing wouldnt have hurt! thanks for watching william, from ohio!
I have great respect for this guy digging and swimming in muck so we can see the old bottles. Thank you✌🏽
hahaha no problem! glad you appreciate it! yeah this video turned out better than i was expecting, it was pure chaos filming it, and trying not to be buried alive! well, we really appreciate you watching and leaving us a comment
You guys are both hard core. My hats off for you two. Great job.
haha thank you! we really appreciate that! yeah.. in hind site, it probably wasnt worth it, but that peterson drugstore bottle was pretty good. thanks for watching! and commenting
I don’t care if you call them huevos, cajones or pelotas, but you have a brass set after staying in that pit after two collapses!!!!! Glad you’re okay!
I am so glad you had someone with you in that deep muddy pit. A tense episode! Like the part when you show your treasure all together.
haha yeah! theres no way i could have dug that alone, we had to bucket out so much water, it wouldnt have been possible.. yeah it was a tense dig! fighting against the clock, and the water, and it was super dangerous.. and im glad you like the end, because when we started the channel we werent sure how to end the videos.. we didnt wanna have it just cut out, so we just decided to show everything to kinda sum it all up.. and also, that prevents anyone from accusing us of pullling out the same bottle over and over again lol. thanks for watching and commenting!!
Great finds Tom, so many bottles, wow. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. 👍👍👍
Your slick bottles are called clean skins here in Aus. Love your digging adventures
Side comes down and the dig goes on, I like to think I'd do the same 😂 Seriously though really well done, you obviously love what you do, it shows. The sides of the pit fascinating stuff, many thanks for sharing this dig and glad you're ok.
Another excellent dig! It was a deep pit……. 8ft ! A lot of great bottles you dug up! Thank you, for bringing all of us on your dig!!! Looking forward to your next vid!!😀
thanks tammy!
Tom, in my state, you can't dig that far down without bracing for the reason that the sides folded down on you. You could've been pinned in there. We've had several workers die in this situation.
I was worried there for a bit. Glad to see all the wooden walls after that bunch of dirt fell.
Tom, don’t go to that guy’s state unless you read up on the rules
I gotta say. You are an absolute master of your craft. And you're doing something you seem to really enjoy. I'll drink to that all day! Keep on, good sir
When you're digging in a pit like this that was probably an outhouse, is there ever any danger of contracting one of the old-time diseases, like Cholera? That has to be nasty. I hope you made TONS of money on these bottles. Total respect.
It is incredible how you find these sites and the amount of artifacts you find!
yeah, it took some work to build up the resources and the tactics to finding a site, and learning from the old maps, of where the pits would probably be, but once you figure things out, it gets to a point where id say, we have a maybe 70% success rate at actually finding something on a site that we've targeted.. but another thing you have to realize, is that sites are literally everywhere.. probably close to a billion in the united states alone.. so just basic chance helps us out alot. thanks for watching!
How do you convince the owners of the land to let you dig?
Tom and Jake, that was the most intense dig I have ever watched. Dangerous, but you dig a square hole versus round for safety. I cannot imagine the smell of the soil, I would have packed my nose with Vicks 😀Nice embossed local pharmacy bottles and the bitters. 👏👍😀
haha thank you! yeah we just dug til we hit the bracing! if it hadnt been such a nightmare i probably would have taken those boards out, and sold them, but.. it was a very long day, and i just didnt wanna spend another second down there.. the high water table really preserves that stuff down there, and this one was probably top 10 grossest digs of my life lol.. thanks for watching and always leaving us a comment!
Always wondered if you ever get to a point where you need either a ladder or a gas mask, this looked like both, great dig
I've gotten to the point where I use an organic vapor respirator. This one was getting close. I usually start bracing up the sides around 9'. Thanks for watching. Check us out on Facebook!
Thought this myself lol
Thanks a ton for stopping by my channel. Seriously appreciate it!
yeah np.. sorry i couldnt watch more, im just on the road for the first time this year. yeah, just check back with me im like a month, and if i dont respond, just keep leaving comments, i usually dont see them all, i just got lucky seeing yours twice in a row. yeah man, good luck!!
Haha! I love once the dirt fell, you kept going! Reached down and said "Whiskey bottle" then you had a big smile on your face. Too funny, thanks for the laugh.
Bless you for the extra work and where you are exploring! Love seeing what is found from the past. Stay safe and thanks for sharing
You guys are the best all the other channels you don’t take time to educate us on the bottles I do appreciate that God bless you
Hard work pays off. You guys are great!
well really appreciate that. thanks for watching
That was one heck of a pit slap full of bottles. Love the dandelion bitters and embossed meds are always great to find.
8 hours and 10k views, almost 40k subs, amazing and well deserved. Hoping people subscribe as you really deserve it Tom. This one is unbelievably bad in an unbelievably good way. You’re one committed man. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
well thank you! yeah im just sitting here watching the sub counter.. i checked like 5 minutes ago, and i was only 4 subs away from 40k!... yeah this video is doing surprisingly well! and yeah, this pit was a nightmare to dig, so im hoping it gets a million views! i only have 2 videos over a million.. but a boy can dream! thanks for your support, and thanks for watching, and commenting!
It's obviously fake 😅

Hiya BTP guys! Could you please do a compilation of your greatest / most valuable items!! Thanks and keep up that preservation of Americana, young man - you might not know how IMPORTANT that is, especially now. God Bless and happy happy hunting!
WOW.... I Love watching You uncover all this unique history but many times praying the ground never comes in on you. You go down so deep sometimes, it's incredible. As I was watching this in anticipation of it going to collapse..... WOW.... Praying You Always come up out of the hole 🙏💖🤗
haha well thank you very much! we really do appreciate the concern.. if it would have been this unstable and it were like 10 feet down we probably would have given up, but i think it maxed out around 8 feet, and we had about a foot of dirt to stand on, so we just made sure our head would be above the ground if it all came down. we are fairly safe, and most pits arent nearly this dangerous. well im glad you like watching the videos! and thanks for leaving us a comment
I am really glad you didn’t get hurt that was close. A lot of bottles 😮😮 take care guys⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
man, be careful guys, I know it had those wood support beams, but those things are super old and probably half rotted. thanks for sharing
tho
Looks like this was a real bugger to dig. Glad you survived.
You should reinforce those holes with steel framed steel sheets. It will require some heavy machinery to lower it in, but it will protect you... just get one welded the size as the hole you want to dig. Good video!
😅😅
That mineralization on the bottles looks really cool. Never knew that could happen
Good stuff Tom and team!
Amazing to watch. So many bottles. Perhaps you could do a video of your collection all cleaned up
Surprisingly I don't have much of a collection any more. I sold most of it off to fund some books I've been writing. The rest were sold to offset the travel costs. Thanks for watching! Check us out on Facebook!
What amazing amount of coolness !!! Great haul !!! Thanks for sharing
That was crazy guys!!
My niece watched with me and her little eyes were wide as saucers. She had question after question like.. where is their house? how does he get home since he's covered in muck? Does he have to wear those clothes and shoes again? How does his mom get them clean? What happens if he has an itch on his face and his hands are covered in....hahaha!! Kids come up with some fun questions. Thanks for the hard work to give us great and interesting videos.
haha yeah we brought a clean pair of clothes for the 2 hour drive back home.. and we have to hose them off before we put them in the wash lol.. well i hope she was at least entertained! thanks for watching and commenting!!
That was a sloppy wet and muddy dig, but, it was well worth it for all the great bottles you found. Good job!
Well done! Amazing how many intact bottles you found, keep up the good work brother!!! I’ve done a few pretty digs with dry dirt I can only imagine how much effort you took to dig all that wet mud out of there, Great job!!
yeah it was a nightmare.. we had too work fast.. probably half the time it took us to dig it was bucketing out water.. we dug another pit right next to this one, and that video will be out in like 2 months, and we have video of water just pouring in from between the beams, and we just never got to a point where it slowed down.. we had a friend with us that day, but if we hadnt there would have been no way to keep up with it.. and that mud.. sticks to the shovel... its like digging thru peanut butter.. lol. well thanks for watching!
I’ll never think of peanut butter in the same way again!
I'm an old Trench Digger - I live in the Australian Outback . You know the right end of a Shovel .... Goodonya ! Love your work .....
It is amazing that you could find the privy from the town maps. Didn't they dig new ones when the other filled up? You find such neat stuff. I'm a retired Navy Pharmacy tech. and seeing all those drug store bottles. They are wonderful. I'll bet a metal detector would find some awesome things. Someone must have gone around town and collected all the empty bottles. To dispose of them to keep the town cleaned up.
I must congratulate you for your determination inside such a messy dig. Well done!
well thank you! yeah it sucked, pretty bad, but you never know whats down there, and if i didnt finish, i would have always wondered. thanks for watching and commenting
You are so easily foolish. He's faking it
Great dig guys loved the video and the finds
Dedication! Nice job!
thank you very much! and thanks for commenting
OMG you really work hard at finding those treasures. You spend a lot of time giving us viewers education on your finds. I set on the edge of my seat waiting for that wall to collapse 😩. Very happy you weren't hurt. Thank you for all the hard work you do to bring your videos to life.
That hole was so deep and wet, had me on the edge wondering when it was going to collapse.😳
You found some really cool bottles!! Love the shape of the Shoo-Fly bottles, the smaller ones are cute!!
Great dig that deserves a couple of beer or brandy to warm you up. It looked so cold. Thx
I’m glad you have a friend there when you dig deep like that.
It's amazing so much glass is so intact.
Enjoyed every minute of this video! Thank you ❣️
haha thank you! glad you liked it! and thanks for watching and commenting!
I really thought the side of the pit was going to collapse on you completely at one point! Great dig!
You were a stalwart carrying on with this one. Well done.
Nice job guys! Stay safe
Awesome finds, I sure do enjoy your videos. Thank you!!
You are such a hard dedicated worker buddy! Your ambition is so great! Love watching your videos!
I could almost smell it through the screen, lol. Nice job guys!
Awesome finds! Love watching!
I was holding my breath most of the time you were at the bottom digging and that crap falling in around you. You seem to be fairly quick on your feet, I hope we don’t have to find out ! Thanks, I enjoy the digs and what you find.
haha thank you! yeah, this was pretty sketchy, but it had all the bracing.. when we were off camera we kept putting boards under where tom was standing, so if it collacpsed he'd at least have his head above ground.. but by the end of it, we were both so done.. extremely stressful.. and literally 20 feet away from a railroad, so we had to rush because we didnt know if the train going by would collapse everything and have to dig it out again.. not fun, if i had the option to dig it again, i would say no lol.. but that peterson drugstore bottle was good! thanks for watching
That's dedication to stand in that water. I wonder if one of those hand bilge pumps would suck water out from that far down.
I was thinking, 'you need a pump, like England's Time Team used..' how close is the nearest Harbor Freight? don't anyone light a match-- might be methane down that hole..
I've used pacer pumps before. We didn't plan for this one to be so mucky and just wanted to get it finished. Thanks for watching. Check us out on Facebook!
Wow quite a large haul you guys got out of there. Love the locals meds you found too. Great dig as always & your hard work really payed off. Take care & best regards always !
well thank you very much! yeah that peterson druggist one was the highlight of the dig, and the jamestown one was okay too.. probably wouldnt do it again lol! thanks for watching, we both really appreciate that
@@BelowthePlains Yes don't need to be buried alive with those big collapses.
I wish you would wear your gloves all the time. The knowledge you have of your subject is amazing. Such dedication!
lol we get this comment alot! about the gloves.. we have the gloves on like 95% of the time, and the only reason we take them off is so we can operate the camera.. you just cant do it with the gloves on, so it may appear that we dont wear them much, but we actually do.. and yeah, in those few minutes where we;ve had them off, we've both gotten cut up pretty bad! thats dedication tho! or insanity.. well thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed!!!!!
Well take that!! 😆😁 Great dig, always look forward to your next video.
Hello 👋 from New York you Guy's Found Some Amazing Finds Thank you for Bringing me Along with you Guy's I can't wait to see What you Find Next 😊
What a huge haul.. glad you're okay 👍🏼
Love watching your videos. You are a better man than most, digging in the wet ‘muck’. What a haul you made. Just remember when the smell gets too bad…. Breath out of your mouth, breath out of your mouth. 😎
Thank you.
You risked it all for that pit haha! I wonder what was smelling so bad 🤔😂 great video and great haul! Thanks for sharing!
It was a "Loaded" Pit - all kinds of Good Old Bottles - wow ans wow again ! Also a 120 Year old Shirt and Boots and pretty good Preserved ! Disgusting slimy Goooop ! OOPS - a little Collapse - You are OK ! Nice Preserved Axe Handle as well ! What a Haul of Bottles - You sounded very Happy ! Cheers from Australia !!!!
haha wow, i was looking at my metrics recently and it showed the cities where the most ppl watched our videos, and sidney was 5th and melborne was 9th, and that totally blew my mind! that that many ppl that far away watch our videos! ive gotta get down there someday! and yeah it was a pretty big pit! i just wish there had been a bit more embossing! i appreciate you watching and leaving us a comment!
Awesome thanks for sharing your experiences with us all
Nice haul. Great video. It's not often we see or hear much of Jake on the videos. Thanks Tom for the FB likes on my posts. Best wishes.
haha yeah i (jake) kinda hate being on camera lol.. im the one who edits the videos and i just hate watching myself, so i always cut out the stuff where im in unless its necessary.. but yes of course! and thank you for watching and commenting!
@@BelowthePlains Jake you do a great job editing them.
I think my phone has smellyvision 🤢 I admire your tenacity in those terrible conditions!
haha yeah.. whenever a pit is wet.. its super gross.. not only is it 10X as hard to dig when its wet, but.. smells so bad and its not something you want to be covered in.. but after awhile you get so broken down from all the hard work, that it ceases to matter so much. thank you! we appreciate that. thanks for watching!
looks like the outhouse was a favorite place to hangout and drink with the boys
Wow what an effort. My husby says its crazy!
haha yeah it was kind of a nightmare scenario! well hope you enjoyed it! thanks for watching and commenting!
Wowsers that’s a whole lot of things out of one hole, well done. The cave in was a bit of a nail biter, glad you’re ok. Take care and thank you for sharing 👍👏❤️
yeah it was pretty tense in there for awhile, not gonna lie, but im glad i stuck it out, because that peterson drugstore bottle was by far the best find of the day.. i almost just gave up, because it was just so many blank bottles!! and if you think thats alot, wait til you see the other pit at this site, probably had 5-10 times as much stuff!! wont be out til like april tho! im dreading editing it, because its gonna be like 2 hours long. thanks for watching! and commenting!
@@BelowthePlains, good luck with that editing job and never underestimate how much it means to your many fans.
Your dedication is amazing to see.....
Now that’s what I call getting down and dirty! Nice work as always
You are really going for it, lots of very very nice bottles❤❤❤
haha thanks darla! yeah, it was bad, but probably not as bad as you'd think. thanks for watching and commenting!
I love watching your videos. I get excited for what your gonna find.
Thanks glad you like!
I really do love some of the colors of the bottles that you bring out. Seemed that many people working there sure loved to drink or were ill, what with the amount of liquor bottles and drug store bottles you dug up. I adore this channel. Thanks guys x
I love your adventures! 💕🌺👵✌️
thank you!
Do you have any videos detailing how you find the pits, probing, using the maps, what to feel for under the ground?
not at the moment, but we were gonna record a video like that this spring. we get this request a bunch, and i guess it just never occurred to me that ppl would wanna see that, so we bsically only ever recorded the digs itself! but as soon as the ground thaws up, up here, we will do that with one video, and hopefully it will be out sometime around june.. thanks for watching
Who would have thought that poop would be *vital* for so long. So, folks were relieving themselves and dumping their flasks. Amazing.
Wow admire your dedication
Great content, I am binging you so will comment more as I go, amazing so far and I am 6 hours in. So many questions but you do such a good job I want to watch and learn more before asking stupid stuff. Thanks so much for posting your content!
Thank you! You guys rock.
Really amazing bottles in that pit but I could swear that's the deepest hole I've seen you dig get
As always, thanks for the video and wowza, stinky, slimy, wet and... well, I can honestly say your passion obviously runs deep!
Ever thought of doing a how to find and dig these kinds of spots. Would love to learn more about your process!
We plan on doing some how-to videos, we've just been so busy lately; Jake with the editing and me with a few book I've been writing. Thanks for watching. Check us out on Facebook!
Seeing all those liquor flasks excavated from a railway depot pit brings to mind some lyrics from a Kenny Rogers song: "...for a taste of your whiskey, I'll give you some advise. So I handed him my bottle, and he drank down my last swallow..."
That one was a real workout but still fun.
haha yeah... two decent bottles! but a total nightmare to dig. thanks for watching and commenting!
Well Someone's done alot of partying back in the day!, Ehh? Ya didn't even flinch when the soil fell in on you! Good job man! GBU.,SM.,NZ.,✌❤🙂🤟🙏
A BRILLIANT Dig!....Well Done!...Cool...
Glad you got out of there!
When all as said and done, what do you do with the haul (mostly a variety of bottles)? I've watched four of your videos and you recover a lot of bottles and I wonder what they're worth to you or anyone you give/sell them to.
I just started watching and what impressed me is the knowledge of where to dig good work
