The leather thing with all the hooks on it is part of a lace-up boot or a woman's like high top lace-up shoe.

Despite not finding coins, I think this was a great hunt Brad. So many amazing and unusual finds. Would love if you could make a follow up video to this, showing each item all cleaned and up close! I hope you go back to this property some day soon? Considering how many neat things you came across after it had already been detected multiple times, I should think there’s probably still a lot more to there to discover!

I remember my grandparents hanging old pictures and photo frames from a picture / dado rail, in the front room of their house, using very thin chains like the one you found. And I definitely think that the 'rivets' on a leather strip, were 'buttons' from a childs or a small womens boot, requiring a small hook to fasten.

I've definitely noticed more reckless people getting into metal detecting in the last 10 years, who don't care about history, don't care about the people whose stuff they're digging, and they saw a video or two of 'AMAZING TREASURE FOUND' on UA-cam, and decided to get a detector and hunt. They leave their holes unfilled as well, which drives me nuts. I haul 100% of what I find out of the hunt site, and dispose of what needs to be disposed of responsibly. Brad is one of the good guys though, and whether he finds cool stuff or not, it's about the adventure and the history.

    • @ryanjourney9607

muchomusiclibre I’ve seen it quite a bit lately. Not sure if it is because of COVID and people are home bored, so they pick up a detector. Like you said it seems to mostly be people hoping to get rich. Also lots of them begging for sites to detect. I just tell them that research is all part of the fun.

What you are calling the "crazy, intricate, button cover" is possibly the hook for a hook and eye fastener. It would have hooked into a piece that matched it, but that had the eye to receive the hook. Possibly to have closed the top of a lady's cape. It could also fasten a decorative belt in the same way.

Camera set up at a distance, you in the background often out-of-focus while you have some forest flower/tree stump/whatever in the foreground. Always interesting. I also suspect you may have updated your camera in the past year. The resolution is really good. And as I've noted in a separate comment on another video of yours, you're using a drone for shots of the mountain side. Could you give me some outline as to how you shoot these videos re: setting up camera positions, what camera, etc. I'm a freelance cinematographer so I find these things of particular interest.

The leather strip with the copper clasps on it looks like a set of boot lace loops, like where the boot lace winds through.

I think that button with "the scene" may be a classic case of Pareidolia. When the brain perceives shapes or objects as having a human or animal form or face, similar to the leaves in the bottom center of the screen at 9:10 they looks like a skull or screaming face. I think the "man" in the button may have been a piece of wire wrapped around a pin, maybe to hold it onto that ornamental piece you found with the glob of iron on it? Definitely some sweet finds either way, the land without a doubt had a wealthy past! Keep up the good work! Your vids are one of the things I look forward to most about fridays!

That leather piece have been some kind decoration on a chair or sofa ! After hearing what you about this item near the end of the video ! Could have been part of a lace up shoe ? The laces would loop around the the hooks and the back of the hooks held it on the shoe ?

The short chain, I believe, is a transom chain. Its about the right dimensions.

That leather and clasps would be part of a boot and the laces go around them. Like today's army boots etc.

Item at 13.43 I think is an escutcheon off of a furniture leg. I believe the leather with hooks come off a pair of boots.

The leather rivets look similar to tack I've seen on draft horse harness around my area in Michigan. Horse pullers and the Amish have something similar, and it's just part of the shiny on the tack. And it looks similar to a old belt drive to.

Brad, isn't Vicks vapor rub used to open up the sinuses when you are congested? Sore muscles would be A535 or some similar product. Just saying....

Those old horseshoes, unlike modern shoes, are often very high carbon steel. Make excellent knives. Sought after by forging blacksmiths.

My Granny use to rub Vicks under our noses, and smear it on our chest when we had the sniffles. Another use she had for it, I'll never forget, is she had a pan of boiling water on the stove everyday. So that when my Grandpa got home from cutting timber everyday, could put his head under a towel, over the pan, and she'd put I don't know how much of the Vicks Vapor Rub into the pot.
Believing it helped him breath afterwards, and that was evening routine for couple years I remember. This was mid 60's, and we lived in the middle of the National forest of Southeastern Oklahoma, we were very country folks, and long ways from any real medical facilities. So Granny doctored us best ways she knew how to, but we later learned his breathing troubles were caused by cancer of the lungs, and he passed in 1966.
To this day, if I see old blue jar, a piece of broken blue glass, are catch the smallest hint of that particular smell, it takes me back instantly to those days so long ago, and memories flood back, as if it were just yesterday. So thank you for your sharing of your memories of your Grandpa a few weeks back, today's adventures, along with the old blue jar with the triangular symbol on the bottom that I remember so well, and all the past adventures, as well as the ones to come.

LIKE #526. I always enjoy watching your videos. The pictures of nature, the music and the education I get from your experience is unlike every other detectorist videos. I'm especially grateful that you don't exhibit some juvenile emotional outburst when you find something extraordinary. 9:39 - Cool find!

That spot was probably cherry picked by the previous detectorists. They only dug the higher signals, which is why Brad didn't find any coins or silver jewelry. But as you can see, you will miss a lot of interesting relics by ignoring the lower signals.

Brad go to Etsy and look up cloak clasp with chain. I pretty sure these are the short chains you've been finding. Also look up Vintage Dress Clip Cloak Clasp on Etsy and you will see the same chain you found some time ago. Some of those dome top fancy buttons go on the ends. You asked.
