by far one of the steepest tracks in the vhc mate, only ever driven down it 🙂
It’s steep, but at least you get a few choices for lines to attack.
Bloody awesome mate what a great adventure
Thanks Mate. It had a bit of everything that one. 👍🏼
I'm up for a trip mate. Have driven the high country for close on 50 years and still doing so. Retired now, can show you around, you do the filming and I'll navigate. Cheers!
Hang on a minute Trickster, so your telling me your going to navigate and I’m still going to have to do the filming. That won’t cut it. 😂 hope your good at editing videos then.
Cheers 🍻

How would Halfa go down here ?
I call it god's country the history is amazing the Valley , Crooked river , Grant . Eaglevale ect , I cottoned onto your vids just the other day and been addicted since .
Love ya style and humour keep it up 👍
It’s definitely gods country, you have to love the VHC. They would of done it tough back in the old days. So much history up there.
Thanks for watching Rangieman, and taking the time out to comment… glad you enjoyed it ! 👍🏼
I haven’t been through that area since 1976,it has changed a hell of lot!
I couldn’t tell you about that Alan, first time down there for me, but I will be back and it will be sooner then later 👍🏼
1976, yeah FJ45's and G60 Patrols! My first time in then then. Crash gearbox, no power steering, no A/C, no power brakes, no hand brake, vapourising petrol engines, rag tyres 750x16, but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!
Best channel ever.. great job mate appreciate it..
Thanks mate… don’t know about that, but I appreciate the comment. And will keep trying to improve the channel and the content.
Last time l was in the waning attachment
My next big adventure from Wonnangatta to Dargo, in the dry. 🏕🍻great video 👍
Plenty to see and drive in that area, I’ll be doing it again… need to put more lines on my maps in that area. 👍
Mate, you are so right when you say that the camera doesn't do the steepness of the country justice. Still it is a special part of the world. Thanks for taking the time to put the vid together.👍👍
Cheers Clint… yes it certainly a special part of the world, and so much to see and take in !
Great video..
First went into wonangatta 37 years ago in a 74 fj40 via old zeka creek track.now gone..bog holes and winching..a real challenge back then..
Been back many times since.. fantastic spot and driving..
I’m looking forward to getting back into the area to spend more time in there, it was a rushed trip.
I could imagine the area back in the early days… would of been awesome, less touched.
That would be the original Howitt track, before they pushed Zeka spur through.
Awesome video. Great choice of music and editing is superb. I found Zeka spur track to be slow and boring when I drove it. We went around Wonongatta and did humffray track then Wombat spur but next time would to drive via Wonnangatta then Herne Spur.
Yeah, it’s wasn’t the most exciting track. But the quickest and easiest way in to troopy gathering I was heading to.
The focus was more on the drive out for me as I had a full day to get home.
I’m still rather new to the VHC, so slowly finding my feet.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hit me up knackers love your videos. Would love to catch up for a beer, I have a hdj 79 fte cab chassis. Love ya work.
Sounds like a good rig Matt, I’d love to have a factory turbo. You get up in the VHC a bit ?
Thanks for watching. 👍🏼🍻
Nice video. Fantastic country. How would you compare herene spur track to blue rag range track?
2 totally different tracks in my opinion but it’s been a while since I’ve done Herne Spur. Blue Rag isn’t that challenging, 1/2 hour and your at the trig. But it’s iconic, views to die for. Herne Spur is a trip in itself, through Wonnangatta, river crossings which can be tricky if a bit of water there, good climbs, but a few different lines to choose from, and then you have to get of the area which can be challenging also.
@A Guy and his Troopy thanks for your reply. One last question though... don't want to bug you... how would Herne spur track be do you think in early November as the tracks first open. Doing it in a Ranger, lifted, A/T tyres, full front, rear and brush bars?
@@MRWOOM109R all good mate, it’s a hard one to answer. I’d say you’d be fine, but it’s all about the weather leading up to the opening, and make sure you carry a Chainsaw and it’s serviced and sharp, as you will most likely be using it, and a winch would be handy.
Great Ep mate
Thank You
Thanks mate… how’d the video play? Have any issues with it pausing ?
@@aguyandhistroopy Perfect this time...
Same equipment to view it...@ 720p 60hz
Unsure why it’s 720p. ? Should be 1080p… think as it’s just uploaded it’s 720, happened before with mates elaborate viewed it straight away !?
@@aguyandhistroopy Oh, I just select 720p manually...
You gotta have good eyes to pick 1080 from 720 on a 43" screen :-)
I can punch it higher, but I don't see the point...
Played perfectly...
I might even go back and one from yesty to see if it does it or not...
Some great crossings mate and the country is awesome 🤩
Was thinking the levels would of been a lot higher after the rain we had during the week… probably a good thing they weren’t ! 🤣
Will be keen, almost finished getting the troopy back together after a paint colour change. 👍
Color change… what did you go? Don’t tell me a Sandy ?
@@aguyandhistroopy haha, no olive drab green, though I also have a new sandy troopy 😜
What’s the Olive Drab Green model?
@@aguyandhistroopy vdj78 2007 the first batch into the county. My pride and joy!
Nice. Look forward to seeing it!
Another quality episode mate. Keep up the good work. It's really refreshing to see some1 out there just doing there thing without a million shout outs to sponsors. 👌👍 hopefully we will catch you on the tracks one day
Cheers mate. Not much chance of me getting any sponsors anytime soon. Yeah, make sure you call me up if you see me… Im always up for a chat. 👍🏻
I'll definitely call you up if I see you. Take care and stay safe on the tracks mate. 👍
Awesome country up there Gav , well done mate.
It is mate… crazy when I lived here I hardly went up there ( due to footy and basketball ) now I can’t get enough of it.
When you back in Vic.?
This was great Gav. Best one yet!! ❤️
Thanks Marg… I struggled with this one. Kept losing footage to iCloud.just had to make do in the end. Hopefully bigger and better in 2022.
Nice video mate👌🏻
Thanks Rob. Would of struggled to cross the Wonnangatta River at all this weekend I’d say !! 🤣
@@aguyandhistroopy I would say so. It’s been a strange summer, don’t think I’ve seen as much water come down the rivers like this year!
It’s definitely been a wet one… and still a lot more to come I’d say.
Another awesome vid gav bloody enjoyed it That hurnes spur track is bloody steep a camera definitely hides how steep the tracks really are I’ve traveled that area quite a few times keen for the next vid now haha
Cheers Brayden. Yeah, I expected it to be a bit steeper from what I had heard. Good thing was it was wide so had a few different lines you could do to attack it.
Let’s hit the tracks in the NY. See how the 105 goes.
@@aguyandhistroopy im up for that just give me a time and a place ill be there 👌
Hey mate great upload ! Would hern spur be steepest ? Im still yet to drive it
I heard it was one of the steepest… But I’m unsure after driving it? Yes it was a steep in sections, but you always had a few options to go up as it was quite a wide track.
@@aguyandhistroopy when you heading out next ? As a solo camper im keen to meet like minded people as all my mates dont drive 4wds
You need different mates ! Lol. .
Not till after the New Year, heading back to QLD to catch up with my kids now the border has opened up.
Hey mate, great video. What date did you cross the rivers?
Thanks Mate. 21st Nov from memory.
@@aguyandhistroopy thanksmate, heading up this week and trying to gauge heights then to now
@@boomba361 www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/rain_river.shtml
This is the Bom website for river catchments. Looking at today it’s slightly lower then when I crossed it back them. It was at 2.18 approx when I went.
I wasn’t sure what 2.18 was in reference to so was a bit nervous. But the water at Wonnangatta was clear so that was a good start. Hope this helps.
@@aguyandhistroopy thanks mate, just got back. Took the "safe" option and come down Cynthia Range instead. Plenty of water still flowing. Drowned cars everywhere
@@boomba361 glad you made it back safe mate and with a fully functioning vehicle!!
Not all Patrol owners use 35s or larger. I've been cruising the High Country for over 40 years and the largest tyre I've ever used is 32". That's all that I have on my Patrol now. Much the same applies to my travelling buddies, our vehicles are our daily drivers and fully street legal. That said, we avoid the tracks where the bush pigs go for their daily dose of mud and vehicle destruction. Multi-day cruises in the High Country are far more relaxing and enjoyable.
Yeah… I know you aren’t all the same. I run 33’s, but I’m like you guys, just like cruising around. Be a lot easier if they weren’t running 37’s etc, cutting the tracks up, be able to ge to a lot more places. In saying that… I have a lot of mates in patrols running 33’s and under. 👍🏻
@@aguyandhistroopy I well remember the days back in the early 80s when a 31" tyre was considered huge and a 33" cost more than many could afford. The tracks back then required skill and not brute force like they do now with the massive wheel ruts dug into so many tracks. And many complain that tracks get closed. That's often the reason. Thankfully, the further out you go, the more normality you find.
@@AustralianImage I’m sort of new to the HC, grew up in Bairnsdale as a kid, but played sport more as a young adult before moving the QLD in 95. Only back for a year now so making up for lost time !
@@aguyandhistroopy You grew up right at the base of the High Country. I lived in Sale for a while and hit the tracks every weekend, and I've lost count of the number of times we've gone through Bairnsdale to do our trips. This virus has killed a lot of opportunities and so trips have been few and far between in the last couple of years, but looking forward to getting out once more. It's always bedlam during the school holidays, so we tend to stay away until school resumes, mainly because finding camp spots get so hard. I'll keep an eye out for your Troopy should we come across each other on the tracks. If you see a white Patrol and white Jeep Rubicon on the tracks, both more or less bog standard and driven by two old farts, it's most likely me and my mate.
@@AustralianImage I will keep an eye out for the two old farts in bog standards 4x4’s 🤣👍🏻
