Using op amps in your more expensive Geshelli Labs DAC that cost multiple times more than the SMSL DAC itself? What really sucs here is this review....
You don't qualify as a reviewer. You just made this video to trash this little dac. Yes, I own this dac and I compared it with five others : Denafrips ares II, smsl M500 MKII, Topping D90, smsl D6S, and Yuling studio audio with 1541A chips, ( I have nine DACs ). The sound of DACs under 1000 bucks including the most recent ones, is not very natural, they all have some frequencies boosted, either the highs , or the mids, or the lows, or all of them on the pricier ones. Sparkos do what ? nope, they will not not turn a $100 dac into a $500 one, sorry, what they will do is increase frequencies as described above, rendering the sound even more unnatural. The SU1 is remarkable because it does not do that, I have it paired with a fifty years old Mcintosh amp and it sounds very good and natural, that is why guys with very transparent and neutral amps swear by this little dac sonic presentation. My guess is connectivity has something to do with this, you connect it with a 6 inches usb C cable to a high quality motherboard (low noise) which I have, and you eliminate a lot of problems (noise) which affects sound. I do not use a cooling fan on my motherboard for this reason. Cheers
Care to explain why/how it sucks, other than it's an SMSL and the company is protecting its trade secrets? And maybe elaborate a bit on your testing methodology? You come forward as non-credible and trashing SMSL to promote Geshelli. BTW I don't care about either company.
I use the smsl su-1 with dsd up to dsd256 files from Native dsd. I do not understand your impressions... Have many questions. What music format did you use for the test? What music did you use for the test? Were you connected via USB and in ASIO mode? How do you play the same song with several dacs?
I have this su-1 dac and it's awesome for the price.I mean come on what the .. you want for 79$ ? This thing sings and had me singing all the way to the bank too , ...
I have the SU-1 paired with an IOTAVX SA3 amp (known for its balanced neutral presentation) and this combo sounds stunning to my ears. I can listen to it for hours with no fatigue whatsoever, picking out all the detail and nuances of the music. Maybe my ears are fucked 🤔
@@MichaelBruceShortbus michael this is off topic but do you have any eartips you recommend for iems generally and melody specifically? and that sounds well and is comfortable for long hours?
I don't understand all the hate. I appreciate the share. At least I now know what the SMSL SU-1 looks like on the inside. I was curious to rather you could upgrade the opamps which I assume are the NE5532 TI chips. But, since they are not upgradable I lost interest in this little DAC.
This is not a review, this is a beat down! LMAO! I have this SU-1 in my system right now. I also have a PS Audio and Bel Canto DAC right next to it, along with the DAC in my integrated. This little DAC quite honestly impressed the hell out of me through both my Maggies and Zu's, and it was only $80! This SU-1 can easily run with the Denafrips Ares II I used to own, and actually believe it sounds better. I wish I still owned it to do a fair comparison.
I get it fully. I happen to have a Geshelli Jnog 2 but custom modded with the sparkos ss2590s. The problem for me is that the Su1 doesn't compare and is in a lower tier and is a very decent dac. I was harsh and for the price, I should have given it more props. I don't care about price so that is how I roll fwiw.
Then pay $2K+ for trashy products made by those western boutique brands who were milked unaware people until Chinese manufacturers appeared with such great devices.

Just a/b testing. It sounds highly unrefined.

Mr shortbus what your thoughts on jcally JM6 pro dongle? And if you haven't tried what is your fav dongle/ affordable DAC amp combo
I don't dongle. I break dongles because I run with my stuff. ES100 till death I guess.

What is the most affordable dac you recommend for iem exclusively ? Thanks
Possibly the stock Geshelli JNOG2. Less than 300 bux. Sparkos puts it over 450 sadly.
How about the 7hz 71? It's single ended though.
I put a 3602 Sparko in an Aune X8 DAC and it sounds pretty darn good to me.
SMSL SU-1 is great. Period.

The best value in DAC with most transparent sound.
Soo.. tell us how you really feel lol
Trash Tier.
Lol. Sadness but I need that a/b switcher
