A friend at work gave me his lawnmower because it smoked it was a nice craftsman like new so i took it home checked the oil and it was overfilled . I changed the oil ran till the oil burned out of the muffler and gave it back and told him what happened . Saved him from buying a new one
I've had 3 Kohler engines this year alone that have had this problem. Some other causes would be a weak or missing spring in the breather area, clogged drain hole in same area, worn piston rings or water in the oil.

I have a push craftsman it’s a bigger version of yours and yea I had it running made one pass and just stalled out and wouldn’t start back up looked at the oil and it looked like it had water in it so I drained it and replaced the oil I have spark the air filter is worse than yours so I’m sure that’s n issue worked great last year and there is oil in where the filter was not a lot but I saw it . Now it’s not kicking over at all . It was a hammy down from the neighbors but I do have another one that isn’t working maybe I can use that air filter will have to check that . I borrowed my buddies electric across the street and wow it’s so nice n light I love it . Ps from what I saw you do it’s my filter ok great video very helpful and sorry about the mike king comment
If you have oil in your carburetor area and saturating the air filter, it's usually from flipping the mower over the wrong way. If you tip it on it's side, you need to make sure the carburetor side is up. I would start by changing the air filter first. It's the easiest solution. If it still runs and dies, there's a good chance that maybe the carburetor got some of that oil in it as well causing it to run rough or not at all. I have many videos on how to clean carburetors on my channel. Just do a quick search and you'll probably find your exact carb. Cheers.
My lawn more won’t start… had low oil so I added oils and changed the spark plug and it still won’t turn.., maybe I put too much oil… I drained come out…. Still won’t start,… I wonder if the air filter is the issue…

If it smokes out of the oil dipstick, it is most likely bad piston rings. If it's running hot then you could have debris built up on the cooling fins or it could be running too lean. Hope this helps. Cheers

I have had some that were over filled, but never saw them pump oil out the breather as much as that one while running.
