During the War of Independence, the road to besieged Jerusalem and the heroic efforts of the young Palmah warriors became a source of inspiration for many songs. Poet and former Palmahnik Haim Guri wrote the legendary poem "Bab el-Wad" about the beginning of the road to Jerusalem where so many lives were lost.
Polish origin composer Shmuel Fershko wrote music to it and it became a beloved classic always heard on occasions like Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers. The song persisted, but the memory of its composer is gone. "Bab el-Wad," it seems, inspired one of the greatest paytanim (Mizrahi religious poets) of the previous century, Rabbi David Buzaglo of Morocco. Buzaglo, who came here in the early 1960s and almost fell into obscurity in the small town of Kiryat Motzkin, wrote his own words to the well known music of Guri's poem. In contrast to Chaim Guri, who places the memory of the fallen at the center of the poem, R. David returns in his poem to the ancient primordial memory - the memory of the creation of man and the world. R. David seems to be putting a mirror in front of the world and humanity - which since the creation of the world has sinned against its destiny - instead of building a world and living in peace and brotherhood, man is engaged in wars, bloodshed, destruction and devastation. In the face of "Forever please remember our names" echoing from the poem of Haim Guri, he calls on human beings to remember the creation of the world, the purpose for which man was created, to remember and not forget that we are in the world to build and not to destroy. Demand peace and pursue peace!

Prześliczne! Poruszające, by pomyśleć, by odebrać przekaz emocjonalny; i jakoby upić się rzeczywistością utworu. Jest to arcydzieło sztuki, znakomite wokalnie oraz instrumentalnie. Ciekawe. Po prostu ładne! Aczkolwiek, ja jestem wybredny słuchacz... ponieważ po "Goodbye Odessa", pani Olgi, to mnie nic już aż tak bardzo nie zachwyci. Bardzo trudno jest pokonać samego siebie. Ma się ten utwór doskonały - w czyimś mniemaniu - to potem wrota pozamykane. Ale tu także jest znakomite dzieło artystyczne! Widać pracę. To interesujące!
PS. Byłoby miło zajrzeć czasem w kuluary! Tak ujrzeć zaplecze, wiolonczelistkę, skrzypka, kulturę tę wysoką, tak od środka.
