He's very intelligent lucky to have an owner who cares for him like you also I'd recommend next time you use a flirt pole do some tug with him to reward him for catching it since he has a good release command so he will work even harder for it the next time.
Ok, so what is another thing that I can try with my dog? I tried an apparatus like this today and my dog was smart enough to realize that the toy was attach to the string which is attached to the pole so instead of going after the toy she went after the pole and caught me off guard. Luckily it was a long pole so I had some room before she got to my hand. Just something to think about when building this.

Hi great video i made one for my pitbull and works great. For how long can I do this with my pitbull an hour a day or less?
15-30 minutes a day should be fine. If your dog needs more exercise then make it longer.
I know this is for flirt pole. My question is for spring pole how long should exercise be for?
20 -30 minutes a day if you can.
