I feel like its an underrated lesson to say that not only are beginner mistakes common, but so common that they go back literal millenia. Be a part of history, make more mistakes.
Please continue making tutorials for EVERYTHING. I have been trying to study and learn drawing for months and your videos have been the best I’ve seen. No BS and over the top editing, your tutorial structure is perfect and actually shows and explains a lot of examples. Your explanations are quite technical but you explain them so comprehensively that they are easy to understand and actually learn from. Not like some other videos that over-simplify things to the point where you’re not really learning. I also really appreciate that you provide downloadable homework. Feels like I’m really taking a real art class!
something interesting to note is that even when creating randomness in organic design, there is still some sort of order to the chaos, you just need to figure out that balance
That's a really good point, there is a beauty in organic order that differs quite strongly from mechanical order, but capturing that difference can be quite challenging
I find it crazy that I instantly recognized Toriyama-sensei's artstyle & sonic's pupils. Even excluding the stellar speedpaint/illustration, 10/10 for the info but mostly the references🤣
not gonna lie, this is the first time i completely watched and understood an art tutorial. bravo, sir. definetly going to devour the rest of your videos.
You have an amazing format. First the fundamentals speedrun, then a real-world application of it. I hope your channel grows tremendously, because this content is insanely good! 🔥
Thank you I really appreciate that. I hope it can get to a point where I can make this my job I think I would really enjoy being able to dedicate all my time to helping people draw waifus or whatever else they want to draw
Good idea to use this video to really underline the fact that these aren't drawing rules. I think eyes are one of the top features that distinguish an art style so it's good to underline here that artists shouldn't think they have to strictly adhere to these guidelines.
I'm glad that came across, I know my content can come across as being very rules focused and very prescriptive. So I wanted to take the opportunity to make clear that rules should also be broken whenever that breaking of rules is the best creative decision
Great tutorials I've really enjoyed going through them and feel they have already started to help my drawing. Going have to watch them multiple times and slowly get the information down so it's great they are so well done!
*LOVE* Your videos. The way you break down each little bit and explain why things are the way they are really helps people learn more effectively. Thank you.

I also loved the bit about intentional rule breaking in your design once you're comfortable with the fundamentals which is easy to forget sometimes. Cheers!

I just started drawing and had problems with other peoples tutorials and you are just like a dream coming in the perfect time saving me. Thank you so much, really.
As a very new artist I know I should be focusing on fundamentals like line confidence and spatial reasoning but you just make this all look so easy I have to try some of your homework assignments haha
Expressions can be challenging, I want to come back and do a facial expressions video once I've covered off the basic way to do the mouse nose and eyes. So that everyone's on the same page with making those parts once we start deforming them to produce different facial expressions
Are you sure about that at 4:23? I mean the egyptians created those great death-masks for the sarcophagi, I'm sure they were aware of their anatomy from an artistic point of view.

I mean layers, method, process, technique and practical stuff! Most of the ppl always explain just light theory but never show how to apply all of this stuff in an actual drawing, and I think you'd do a great work with that! ❤

I just want to say, I've been designing some OCs and your female body tutorial has been a huge help. I could do it OK before, but I'm a straight woman and I couldn't get the appeal right the way I can with male characters. The little details in your video like the hip bones, the soft tummy, the crease at the top of the thighs, the dip in the thighs just above the knee, HUGE DIFFERENCE!! A very good explanation to a pretty difficult to realize with no prior experience thing! My own favorite, but admittedly very time consuming, way of learning to understand eye perspective is a way I was taught in my math/physics focused school's schematics drawing classes(yes, this used to be a thing here in russia): I first draw up the main form of eyes I want, straight-on with no perspective, then I define key points and by tracing straight lines from those points I make projections(I believe they are called ortographic projections in english, FYI) for the side-view and from-above-view, then erase the original and tilt the projections to desired positions to then complete the form by tracing straight lines from key points to make a proper look that I want that would now be extremely easy to apply perspective to A time-consuming method that's more suited to learn the general way eye form changes than to use all the time, but it gives an accurate technical representation of shape, and is really easy to do it especially helps with nailing the eyelashes shape, btw
Yes I absolutely will once I've covered it off the part of the body in face. I'll move on to how to do the things you draw over the body and face like clothing
Amazing video and very useful advice. The only thing I missed is some advice on how much of the space I should use for the ires and how much of the ires should a cover with the eyelids, I've been struggling with this part for a bit. I notice you covered the top of the ires most of the time.
That's a really good point. Often you will just cover a little bit of the top of the iris but you also have the option of not covering any of it if you want to really intense look or you can cover the top and bottom for a really cutsey twinkle-eyed look. It all really depends on what you're trying to communicate
"- we wanna have softness as the key visual element in this image, we're gonna have the same sort of theme of things that are..." *zooms into bust* "...-soft-..." laughed out loud
Can you do one about different body types and ethnicities? You know, lean, average, athletic, muscular, heavyweight, and idealised? And how to change certain features not only the face, but also the body. For example, Asian body proportions on average the torso is larger than the limbs due to their adaptation to severe cold weather during the evolutionary process, and I have have noticed that people with indigenous from the Americas ancestry have lean calves, they almost look straight, compared to European ancestry calves that are quite thick. Even on lean European people the calf muscles are much more pronounced than the calf muscles of overweight people of indigenous descent.
This is a great tutorial, I love your videos. You forgot that irises are not stuck to the surface of the eyeballs... They are also inset in it, just like the pupils are inset within the iris. 6:19 iris can't be that close to the edge of an eyeball. This is also key to understanding 16:47. That illustration makes sense. The area infront of the iris on the eye is transparent, so the edge of the eye appears to be the iris, which is (literally always) stylized to be concave (even thought it is not), so the eye appears to be concave.
How much of a gigachad does someone need to be to make this many high quality tutorials in such short time periods AND with homeworks? Okay seriously though, I am asking this out of curiousity but did you have UA-cam experience before? It's hard to believe that a beginner would be able to do what you're doing.
So I have literally 0 UA-cam experience. But I do have years of experience working as an illustrator, and I also have experience working as an actual classroom teacher. For me currently I'm climbing up the learning curve that feels like a Cliff of how to make videos edit them record things etc. That little bit with Sonic the Hedgehog about 17 minutes in I had to Google three separate things to figure out how to do it, because I have just no idea what I'm doing
Sensei it gives my so much joy to see your draw and teach us ! U become my favorite youtuber 🎉 Can i ask you how many years you draw already ?? It seems you are a genius 😮
Thank you, that's very nice of you say. Most of my life, on and off. It's hard to say exactly since they were periods of years at a time where I didn't pick up a pencil.
Hello LinesSensei, I'm curious to how you created your ""Hard Round nosmooth" brush that you use for sketching as I like how it looks. I've tried recreating it myself but it's been unsuccessful. Could you please share your secret :)?
So my big secret is that it's one of the brushes that will come with the software almost universally. But since a lot of people have been asking for it specifically I'm going to making a short in the next few days that shows how to produce or just find that brush in most of the major drawing software
Can you teach us how to draw all the body types ?Like pear, apple, hourglass, inverse & regular triangle, ectomorph mesomorph and Endomorph bodyshapes?I can only draw buff dudes😢 , gonna be seeing your videos on women and men body types in a few days
A lot of different body types and character types are definitely planned. There are a few basics I want to cover off first before I get into the more specialist things like specific body type etc. But I do definitely plan to do them so stay tuned.
Oye, Lines-sensei, you use Clip Studio Paint, right? Just a question: Do you think the program artists use have a big impact on their art? Or is it just a skill issue and a truly talented artist should be able to make anything work? Just something that's been bothering me, since I don't have CSP and have been wondering if it'll have tools my current program (Autodesk Sketchbook) just doesn't have and will be able to help me improve! Your tutorials have really helped me out, but I still feel like something is just off about the rendering of my work! Your insight would be very helpful.
So the tools aren't the biggest thing and what you can and can't learn. But they will control what you can and can't do. So for example if you're a painter and you don't have any blue you can't do skies but it doesn't mean you can't learn how they are constructed it just means that you're limited in what things you can actually apply. I personally used Autodesk sketchbook for quite a while and I really liked the way you navigate the canvas and the user interface but it was just too limiting in the choices of what things they decided they wouldn't allow you to do. I would recommend going to clip studio especially since it's so powerful and goes on special for like 20 bucks every few months
The Egyptian eyes are intentional, actually! They drew each part of the body from the most recognizable angle, so the face and feet are always in profile, the eyes and chest are always straight on, etc.
This guy single-handedly does the best drawing tutorials I've seen on UA-cam.
he's also helped huntreds of people with their art before he even had a youtube. guy's a really good person. even helped me.
I think he uses both hands to do them tho

A very good explanation to a pretty difficult to realize with no prior experience thing!
My own favorite, but admittedly very time consuming, way of learning to understand eye perspective is a way I was taught in my math/physics focused school's schematics drawing classes(yes, this used to be a thing here in russia):
I first draw up the main form of eyes I want, straight-on with no perspective, then I define key points and by tracing straight lines from those points I make projections(I believe they are called ortographic projections in english, FYI) for the side-view and from-above-view, then erase the original and tilt the projections to desired positions to then complete the form by tracing straight lines from key points to make a proper look that I want that would now be extremely easy to apply perspective to
A time-consuming method that's more suited to learn the general way eye form changes than to use all the time, but it gives an accurate technical representation of shape, and is really easy to do
it especially helps with nailing the eyelashes shape, btw

And how to change certain features not only the face, but also the body. For example, Asian body proportions on average the torso is larger than the limbs due to their adaptation to severe cold weather during the evolutionary process, and I have have noticed that people with indigenous from the Americas ancestry have lean calves, they almost look straight, compared to European ancestry calves that are quite thick. Even on lean European people the calf muscles are much more pronounced than the calf muscles of overweight people of indigenous descent.
I definitely do plan to do different body types once I've covered off a lot of the basics so stay tuned
Watch out for the sonic jumpscare
shhh dont spoil it
Vaush would be proud 🥰
Ah yes, people do keep mentioning him. From context I'm guessing he's an enthusiast about goblins, which is something I can understand
Thank for the video 👍
Thanks I'm glad you liked it
This is a great tutorial, I love your videos.
Came for shortstacks, stayed for art tutorials.
Excellent, if it gets you in the door then I'll do it again
The sonic portion caught me off guard.
Sonic is horrifying when you think about it
Rly want a male body tutorial or hair tutorial🙏 once again amazing video

already got you my guy!
@@LinesSensei Well, good news is you're already doing great!
Sensei it gives my so much joy to see your draw and teach us ! U become my favorite youtuber 🎉
Can i ask you how many years you draw already ?? It seems you are a genius 😮
Thank you, that's very nice of you say.
Most of my life, on and off.
It's hard to say exactly since they were periods of years at a time where I didn't pick up a pencil.
@@LinesSensei thanks Sensei! I can see for sure that u have decades of experience. You are one of my role models on my art journey 🙏
The guy just signed up for the Bebey. How else to explain that he likes to draw goblins so much?
Hello LinesSensei, I'm curious to how you created your ""Hard Round nosmooth" brush that you use for sketching as I like how it looks. I've tried recreating it myself but it's been unsuccessful. Could you please share your secret :)?
So my big secret is that it's one of the brushes that will come with the software almost universally. But since a lot of people have been asking for it specifically I'm going to making a short in the next few days that shows how to produce or just find that brush in most of the major drawing software
Really enjoyed the tutorial, just curious on how to do male eyes.
Same but less eyelashes,
@@LinesSensei wonderful tyvm!!
i would love a tutorial on line weight and variation
Wonderful, I do plan to make that in future once I've covered it off the basics of figure drawing, so stay tuned
Lmao the sonic one
