Hi, if you're still looking for help on avoiding overwhelm, there's a really good audio-podcast that speaks on the subject, the first segment talks about zooming in and zooming out of focus, from a prioritized list of tasks to the tasks themselves, that and not overloading your day. I used to get overwhelmed really often, but the techniques in the audio-podcast helped a lot. It takes some practice, but it's a skill you can learn :) I hope it can help you too! (title below, some libraries offer it on overdrive for free)
i do have to disagree with the first one. for me personally i need to have the tv on since it acts like background noise. i daydream in silence. i genuinely think it works differently for different people.
Same. Well not the TV because commercials are SUPER distracting, but music or a video/show on youtube. The only things I can do in quiet is reading and electronic flahscards on memrise. For notes or exercises and such, I just need music or youtube on. I know that if I have to do these things in silence, I get too distracted by the everyday noises. Birds, my family walking around, people outside, the washer, dishwasher, dryer, fans, radiators etc. When I tried to study without background noise like everyone said I should, I just didn't want to do it and procrastinated. I also wasted a lot of time not focusing because my mum turned the dryer on or there were birds outside my window and I turned every time one I found annoying started up again. I just find everyday noises super annoying and sadly, noise cancelling headphones don't work for me. They feel too heavy and it's like there's a dull humming in your ear rather than silence. So background noise it is.
@@mchobbit2951 use netflix if you dont want any distractions like commercials and such. if you dont have that much money but boy if i did, just google (movie title) google docs. you just have to pick.
Thank you for this! I started nursing school in January and I’m STILL trying to figure out the best way to study. We had someone come and talk to us about “study tips and mistakes” but this was by far more helpful.
She says: don't multitask while studying Me: having differents conversations while watching this video She says: do not listen distracting music Me: setting a playlist to read the next assigned chapter So basically, I failed in just 23 seconds...
multitasking is a great way to keep me from getting distracted. i always put on a movie and do my work. i recommend watching movies you've watched a dozen times. one time i did my homework while watching bohemian rhapsody!
My problem with not multitasking is that I have to listen to background music since in the silent I am contantly daydreaming, getting distracted by my own ideas or worse being "hounted" by my worries or future projects (I have slight anxiety and ocd)
ahaha i love your book of mormon reference, i hope you didn’t get copyrighted!! and it’s so true, i used to turn on a youtube vidéo right when I got home and had a snack, but I had a hard time turning it off when i got started on homework. now, i wait to catch up on UA-cam until after I do my homework and I get done so much faster.
1. Don't mutlitask - wastes your brain power Solution : turn it off, play music without lyrics 2. Reading textbook passively - not effective method - gives false sense of security Solution : active learning such as flashcards and quizzes 3. Using only one technique - too restrictive Solution : use multiple methods like true/false and mcqs saqa etc 4. Using only one source - too little details Solution : use more resources 5. Don't use your phone - too distracting Solution : turn off notification for social media etc/ do not disturb mode. Put it far away. 6. Studying without prioritizing - don't give same amount of time on everything, categorize according to concept and difficulty of concepts. 7. Don't have a study marathon - don't study for 12 hours or the entire day -can't retain much information Solution : have breaks in between Plan your study content few weeks before
1/ Trying to multitask 2/ Reading passively your notes and textbook (use active studying technics instead) 3/ Studying with the same method or a bad one. (use multiple methods and diversify the perspective) 4/ Studying with only one source of information. 5/ Picking up your phone (Disable notifications, or put your phone far from you) 6/ Studying everything in chronological order only. (Priorities informations) 7/ planning studying marathon, like 12 hours straight. (Take breaks, and plan your revisions a few weeks in advance, using pomodoro methods)
If you have an iPhone: You can create a studying focus which fliters what types of notifications you get. You can even filter what contacts you will be notified by. If you want to receive your mom's text but not texts from your friends you can do that. You can also filter what apps send you notifications. I read Webtoons a lot so I filtered out Webtoon notifications. it's very useful
Hey! Thanks for your videos! I wanted to ask you, could you show us how to study for visual subject, like history of art (where you have to remember a lot of things as well as who and when did it etc)- I have a rough time to make my notes (with photos) look clean and good :( Greetings from Poland!
I attempted a few study marathons before, but with the pomodoro method, it's the only one that actually helps me saty focused for lost of hours. I start around 6:30 am and study for 50 minutes and relax and disconnect, I do this till 1pm, so I can eat something and then restart studying with the same method for as long as I feel comfortable and focused. I hope this can help someone, take care!
I have a little studying tip for anyone who is just studying or doing homework. So if you listen to music while you study, be sure not to listen to music that has people like singing even if it’s like calm music still don’t listen to it it has someone singing. The reason is because this could distract you from studying and instead you may start singing and start skipping songs and you won’t focus on studying. so listen to calm soothing music like Lo Fi just something calm that doesn’t have people singing. I hope this tip helps!
Another tip is to do a little bit of studying first because the beginning of studying for a new topic/section is always the hardest. Then, (depending on if its a test or a quiz) study longer/harder a week or less before (or whatever you believe is equitable)
For people who are very distracted by UA-cam, I think that one of the best things to do is just delete it from your phone, and ony watch it on your laptop. It personnally helps me a lot.
She: don't try to be multitask Me: Watching her saying that I shouldn't try to multitask while I'm studying for AP Psychology and doing my English homework :v
Also - I found it helped a lot if I studied 25 minutes on a subject, took a 5 minute break (Pomodoro method) THEN for the NEXT 25 minutes would do something involving physical action - ie, washing dishes, folding clothes - something that would be a physical activity and then another 5 minute break followed by the third session being again a study session. It kept me from becoming increasingly tense over a test or quiz that I felt uneasy about.
My problem right now: two tests tomorrow, didn't have enough time to study because of events last week, didn't think of that the week before (I'm bad at planning😂), I don't get the material necessary for the tests. Well, I guess I'll fail both tests🙂
Hey Studyquill, you have no idea how much you inspire me to take more time on my notes but I have a question, do you take your notes during or after school? If you do them after, how do you remember important topics/ things to know that your teacher says to the class? Thanks!
Mistakes:
1. Trying to multitask
2. Passive learning/reading notes
3. Using only 1 studying technique
4. Using only 1 source of materials
5. Picking up your phone
6. Studying without prioritizing
7. Attempting a study marathon
Thank youu 💜
Thank you so much for the summary

"don't multi-task" then there's me reading the comments & trying to watch the video...
You cracked me up when you were like “Hope this doesn’t get copyrighted “😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💕💕💕💕
study quill: practically nobody can study for 12 hours straight-

Lmaoooo
1.Multi tasking
2.Passive reading
3.studying only one way (only objective )
4.using only one source
5.picking up phone often
6.studying without prioritising
7.attempting a study motivation
Okay, your channel motivates me to study harder and be more productive.
Can you do a video on how not to feel overwhelmed?

cool, thanks for your perspective!

i use music (usually without lyrics) because it's also like background music. tv to me literally distracts me bc i like every single channel on it...
Listening youtube videos while doing homework helps me to stay focused and also be entertained!
Thank you for this! I started nursing school in January and I’m STILL trying to figure out the best way to study. We had someone come and talk to us about “study tips and mistakes” but this was by far more helpful.

“Don’t multitask”
slowly exits this video...
It looks like she’s lipsing and then doing a voice over
Her voice is so smooth
Great vid btw
She says: don't multitask while studying
Me: having differents conversations while watching this video
She says: do not listen distracting music
Me: setting a playlist to read the next assigned chapter
So basically, I failed in just 23 seconds...

As Long as the playlist is not distracting music, it’s fine.

My problem with not multitasking is that I have to listen to background music since in the silent I am contantly daydreaming, getting distracted by my own ideas or worse being "hounted" by my worries or future projects (I have slight anxiety and ocd)
