I decided to try and model a guitar pedal as my first project and then randomly found this video!

adding textures through the dialog window in the node PE is a crime.

So I'm a blender user and I'm super super fluent with nodes to the point where I can create entire models using only nodes. Learning cinema4D now and good lord this is such a mess of a software. Powerful, yes. but the learning curve to this is insane. Nomenclature of features in blender just makes more sense. The UI of blender too, just simply makes so much more sense and makes it so much easier. But anyway, this pain of a journey called learning the UI of Cinema4D starts for me

Oh great - another million ways to create a metal surface.
But credit where credit is due. The old material layers system needed an overhaul, and this does a better job on more complex materials. But tip is, simple materials - don't bother with the node system.

And still you didn't explain how to create a texture - based metal material. I have a steel materai, WITH base colour, WITH roughness, metallic, and specular maps. Where do I put these? Now what if I have one texture setup with DIFFERENT materials, both metallic and dielectric. Like, a shelf. Wooden panels and metallic handles. Is this too advanced for C4D? Or for you? Sorry, but I dislike this vid.
