I’m 9 months pregnant and getting induced today. I’m away from all family (except my husband) because of the Coronavirus, and we have been told he may not be able to visit baby and I in the hospital after delivery which breaks my heart. My parents can’t come to see us in Ireland now either which is so hard. But, seeing this video, well-brings a tear to my eye. I have someone to love (and will soon have a new baby to love); so, despite all the bad things, who could ask for anything more? Love Gene Kelly, and thankful I randomly looked at this clip again after a few years of not seeing this gem!

Any other "star" would have stopped and demanded a "do over" (& probably have the kid canned). His response was like that of a dad. He obviously wasn't in love with himself.

This video has so many wins. 1. Happy Children. 2. An impromptu language lesson. 3. An old timesy tune, an extremely catchy one at that. 4. TAP DANCING, 5. He sure darn GOT rhythm!

Brilliant- he was a rare breed- actor, singer, dancer, athlete, an a gentleman.
The steps he does @4:18 is extremely difficult to master, but no problem for this exceptionally talented man. His agnosticism, his liberal views including his support for Unions, & the Irish independence movement, made him a few enemies then, as they would today in the States.
A fine man, a fine artist. Missed, in today's shallow entertainment world.
Thanks gene, for all the wonderful movies, dances & songs.

He really had a knack for working with children. They said he differed from most actors back then because he was so natural and genuinely enjoyed being around kids, not just acting to be happy for the sake of the silver screen unlike some others around the time. I suppose having kids of his own (Kerry Gene would've been 9 at the time) and being the middle child of 5 kids might've helped as well.

Gene Kelly was an exceptional dancer, and though I like Fred Astaire there was something whimsical about Kelly's performances and his devilish charm became an integral part of his routines. He was clearly gifted, but his charisma made him unique. I will always enjoy his work. A great artistic legacy.

I think this should be mentioned due to an earlier message: Gene Kelly has said that he owes a lot of tap dancing to Irish stepdancing and the styles called jigging and clogging. That is where tapdancing really originated. Black dancers borrowed steps from the Irish, and both groups helped develop it into the tapdancing that became so popular and happily persistent.

I have a close friend who is an artist and is such an absolute perfectionist with his work that it takes him a whole week to finish a simple commission. And God help anyone or anything that interferes! He offered to help someone in our class with a project and wound up verbally abusing them. My friend and Mr. Kelly are similar in that outside of work, they a shiny gem that lit up the room. When getting down down to business, they turn into North Korea.

It's 8:00 pm, 2/1/17. And I'm watching Gene Kelley's wonderful dance sequences. And readily I conclude that Kelly was Michael Jackson's influence. His super sensational dance creations. And, yes, the way Kelley's pants reveal his socks and sandals, a definite MJ influence, among many others. Between the two creative geniuses, I loved Kelly. He was such a free person, body and soul. It was in his movements. The smile.
