I actually really liked the Wii U/3DS era a whole lot. Definitely some of my favorite years. This is coming from an older Gen-X gamer who kinda gave up on Nintendo, like most of my peers, when the N64 game out and all of the Japanese devs jumped ship to the PlayStation. I didn't care about the N64, thought the Gamecube was just okay, hated the Wii gimmicks... The 3DS/Wii U era is where Nintendo remembered to make good games that could draw me in. @@OmegaDez Couldn't agree more, although coming from the perspective of a gen z gamer. Wii was a disappointment to me because of the gimmicky games and crappy graphics when compared to the competition. When people say god awful advertising i don't understand what they mean. Nintendo had been horrible at advertising since like the SNES days. People like them now because they're nostalgic but alot of commercials for like N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U and even Switch are god awful.
@@diegomedina9637 I think in the case of the Wii U it stood out more because a lot of casual audiences had a hard time distinguishing whether it was a new console or some new attachment for the Wii. Absolutely Slick, you're very welcome! Thank you for the amazing job. You were very fun to work with and I lit up seeing the premiere chat freak out and say that I got the real Luigi xD
Can we take a minute to appreciate Luigi taking the time to read his own tweets specifically for thus channel? Busy man, but he still remembers the little guys.
The Japanese Luigi Nendoroid has the "The Year of Luigi" logo on the box. There's usually some delay in release between Japan and western releases with these figures, so they probably removed it from the English boxes.
Honestly, I prefer Wario, and he certainly got his fair share of games, but not his fair share of fame. However, Luigi has his own unique vibe or groove. Honestly, the whole Year of Luigi thing is one of those events where you just had to be there. I remember seeing the standalone game at Walmart? And best part? You could play it without the base game at half the price. Still wish I had my copy. qwq Also, I love your Luigi impression when you read the Tweets. XD They should've gotten you for the Mario movie.

I do really hope that nintendo does another "year of" celebration like this since this has so much potential honestly. Imagine like a "year of zelda" or something, that would be really cool to see zelda get more games based around her.
Man I was really hoping for another year of Luigi. There's so many games they can still do! Paper Luigi, Super Luigi 64, Luigi & Knuckles at the spelling bee, the list goes on!
I know this had been said before, but I really hope there’s more ‘Nintendo years’. It’s really cool to have under-appreciated focused on by Nintendo, who has an ash tray of characters they’ll never use. Maybe even outside of Mario characters. I hope they bite the bullet and try it again despite how year of Luigi failed.
You didn't mention the Luigi coins! They were given out at Best Buys during the limited demos for Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, and probably other games I imagine.
Bro I explicitly remember calling my local Best Buy asking about those coins, even having my mother repeatedly call while I was in school that day, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I was so mad that I couldn't go there that day.
Seeing this when I was really young was wild me and my brother and cousin were mind blown by luigi as we all loved luigis mansion and seeing him with his own year was truly magical
12:44 I actually own this 3DS, still in good condition too. Though yeah, I always thought it was disrespectful that Mario was on the “Year of Luigi” 3DS
How do you know that? Nintendo has bill they have to pay just like everyone else. There people who work for them they have to pay crap loads of money to along whit making video games that cost even more money. If a game bombs they lead to lots of money lost or jobs lost too. There a reason why f-zero and earth bound don't have games being developed any time in the future. While the switch is selling well, they still probably have not recover from the failure of the Wii U. Working in the gaming business is not easy like you kids think it is.
@@INFERNO95 Nah bro, Nintendo doesn't do business like most western companies that leverage themselves to the hilt. They have savings. MASSIVE savings. 30+ billion USD dollars. They are one of, if not the wealthiest company in Japan. Wanna idea of how confident Nintendo is in it's finances? When Microsoft attempted to buy them before launching the OG Xbox, Nintendo laughed them out of the boardroom. That's by Microsoft's own admission. According to an older release from former Nintendo CEO Hiroshi Yamaushi, he actually responded in person by saying "suck my yellow balls, Mr Ballmer...". I say this as someone who has owned and enjoyed gaming on every major console and PC in the last 20 year; Nintendo can do whatever the hell they want until well after I'm dead without ever worrying about money running out.
Thank you Pitt and Starlow for giving our lord and savior Luigi the respect and attention he deserves, honestly a really cool and interesting video and I was pretty entertained also I’m pretty sure the Luigi Nendoroid was a promotional thing since it came out shortly after the year of Luigi ended and they made a Luigi Nendoroid before Mario and the whole Luigi & Mario: Dream Team thing was funny 😆

The 3DS/Wii U era is where Nintendo remembered to make good games that could draw me in. Pity it wasn't a huge success.
@@OmegaDez Couldn't agree more, although coming from the perspective of a gen z gamer. Wii was a disappointment to me because of the gimmicky games and crappy graphics when compared to the competition. Wii U and 3DS just had the best first party support since the SNES and I found the Gamepad to be far more useful than any of the motion control stuff.
You'll never get the N64, Gamecube, Wii and Switch mixed up with each other because they all look distinctly different, but the Wii and Wii U were very similar and like I said, had people second guessing whether it was a new system or not.
Thanks again for the voice commission Jonii! Glad i could be a part of this!
I've listened to it like a second without knowing you where takin part in it, but immediately recognized you! XD
Amazing job Slick :)
Absolutely Slick, you're very welcome! Thank you for the amazing job. You were very fun to work with and I lit up seeing the premiere chat freak out and say that I got the real Luigi xD
A year is only a year if you let it be. The millennium of Luigi will carry on after all of our passings
Can we take a minute to appreciate Luigi taking the time to read his own tweets specifically for thus channel? Busy man, but he still remembers the little guys.
He should, cuz he’s one of them
Nintendo Lost the money amount of squid game
Viridi talking about the Year of Luigi is the most aggressively early 2010s Nintendo thing I’ve ever seen
He's not my favorite brother, but I respect him.
He certainly was my Main in Mario 2 back in the day. He jumped higher. And did a funny leg thing while he did it.
I like Wario before he got Flanderized.

"They didn't focus on Luigi enough" I believe this. I see people talking about Year of Luigi as some grand event when Luigi himself is just part of reskinned games;
I bet 2022's gonna be another year of Luigi, it's probably not gonna happen, but it's the perfect opportunity.
This was a really cool event Nintendo did! Even though I prefer Mario, it's nice seeing Luigi get the spotlight sometimes. Cool video! :D

Was here for this comment.
The Year of Luigi is a good example of Nintendo's willingness to sell you ideas to keep you invested in the Nintendo gaming market sphere without ever putting any effort in or delivering on the modest desires of their fanbase
If they did put any effort, we'd have gotten the Year of Waluigi instead.
Idk, there really was nothing more they could do. And I honestly appreciate the continuous presence of hidden pixel chars in 3D games.
@Exalt Chrom That just a mario game whit Luigi name on it.
Remove the word “ever” and yeah, this is 100% accurate.
“Chicago you will always be the home of the L” this line aged beautifully
15:36 I seriously just left out the nastiest laugh at Luigi’s joke and ensuing awkwardness, what’s wrong with me
Honestly, the whole Year of Luigi thing is one of those events where you just had to be there. I remember seeing the standalone game at Walmart? And best part? You could play it without the base game at half the price. Still wish I had my copy. qwq
Also, I love your Luigi impression when you read the Tweets. XD They should've gotten you for the Mario movie.
Thanks for the nice comment! Standalone NSLU was truly a sight to behold.

I do really hope that nintendo does another "year of" celebration like this since this has so much potential honestly. Imagine like a "year of zelda" or something, that would be really cool to see zelda get more games based around her.

@@Duskgusting *Dying noises*
There should be a game where you play as Zelda, not the CDI games, but a maybe canon Zelda game or a spinoff game.
Nintendo will only do it if they think the idea will make them money.
Man I was really hoping for another year of Luigi. There's so many games they can still do! Paper Luigi, Super Luigi 64, Luigi & Knuckles at the spelling bee, the list goes on!
Luigi Party, Luigi Kart, Luigi Tennis….
Super Luigi's Mansion All-stars...
That will never happen
I know this had been said before, but I really hope there’s more ‘Nintendo years’. It’s really cool to have under-appreciated focused on by Nintendo, who has an ash tray of characters they’ll never use. Maybe even outside of Mario characters. I hope they bite the bullet and try it again despite how year of Luigi failed.
year of side character
You didn't mention the Luigi coins! They were given out at Best Buys during the limited demos for Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, and probably other games I imagine.
Bro I explicitly remember calling my local Best Buy asking about those coins, even having my mother repeatedly call while I was in school that day, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I was so mad that I couldn't go there that day.
Luigi deserves a second year of Luigi

FR! but it was only me since i would non stop talk about luigi
12:44 I actually own this 3DS, still in good condition too. Though yeah, I always thought it was disrespectful that Mario was on the “Year of Luigi” 3DS
And yet, Nintendo has enough cash on hand to make every year the Year of Luigi until 2050 without going under.

I really wish the year of Luigi did better and didn't feel like something thrown together last minute. We could've gotten Luigi really showing what makes him unique and different from Mario with new game experience Mario hasn't done. That being said, having an entire year centered around you isn't really something anyone gets (no matter how underwhelming it was).
Maybe if Luigi fans supported Luigi it would have done better. Blame Luigi fans not Nintendo for the failure.
