    In between Matrix 1 and 2 they released a special feature called The Animatrix, a collection of five or six anime shorts that explains how the machines came into existence and how the war started. It’s actually really good and each of the shorts was done by a well known anime director at the time. If given a choice between that and Matrix 4 I’d watch The Animatrix.

    Weird thing about the "cliffhanger" ending is that nothing really comes of it in the sequels. It's supposed to be Neo "showing these people what (the Matrix) doesn't want them to see", which is meant to imply that when he flies and they see it, it will make them aware of the Matrix's fake "rules" and cause a system crash, which is what the "system failure" alert is meant to be about. Presumably, this means everybody wakes up because the Matrix crashes, all because Neo broke the rules in front of everyone. It's a thematic symbol for political demonstrations by individuals leading to revolutions that break systems of control. That's the implied ending of the story, when this movie was intended to just be a standalone film.
    But then it became successful and the studios wanted sequels, so they had to kinda just ignore that implied ending. In the sequels, Neo can just "do his Superman thing" and nobody seems to notice... or if they do, it's not a problem at all. No system crash happened. To be honest, this is probably more accurate to reality in a symbolic way, because in reality, most people do just ignore dramatic examples of inconvenient truths... but it is a strange inconsistency in the narrative between movies. The sequels making it so that Neo flying around doesn't mean anything, renders his whole threat against the Matrix to "show these people what you don't want them to see" kinda meaningless.
    Just one of the ways that the sequels ain't as good.

    They were the Wachowski brothers at the time of the first movie, they have both since transitioned, so you were correct that they are now known as the Wachowski sisters, or to avoid confusion just the Wachowskis.

    The Wachowski's hadn't transitioned when they made this movie. It wasn't till years later that they became known as the Wachowski sisters, but even still, only one of them was involved in the most recent sequel, so they don't seem to have the same film-making sibling partnership they once did.

    35:53 the lobby scene - so fun fact, the guns here are such dedicated actors, they spent weeks re-enacting this sequence - hoping that a man and woman dressed in trench coats would enter and start acting. After over 500 takes, the guns got lucky - when Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss were strolling through the Warner Brothers lot one lunch time and got lost and wondered onto set.
    Also fun fact - the guns did not use blanks - that's a real Keanu Reeves in every shot.
    Over 3,800 extras were lost during the production of this scene.

    When this came out, we still had dial up internet, so using the phone to get out made sense. At least to me. The Matrix, irl, is actually a theory from the 60's. I thought it started with this movie. There's video's all over about it. Also, the only thing I don't like about this movie is "deja vu". That wasn't deja vu. Deja vu is a feeling, not an experience and certainly not immediate.

    I always laugh at Morpheus' explanation, from the perspective of scientific literacy.
    -Humans store and use energy from the energy stored in chemical bonds in the body.
    -We gain that energy from the chemical energy in the food we eat.
    -The chemical energy in plants originate from photosynthesis.
    -There is loss of energy in each step in this cycle.
    -So we'd need even more *solar energy* to make a humans produce energy from body heat and electricity.
    The machines can use any energy source that let humans live more efficiently at its source.
    Since the laws of physics dictate a loss of energy in each step through this cycle, if it's possible to give a human the energy to survive it's possible to use that energy more efficiently at its source.
    Always.
    No exception.

    • @WhiteWolfDarkpaw
      @WhiteWolfDarkpaw Місяць тому +1

      Fan theory; Morpheus didn't understand the fields and towers properly. He thought they were for power, when in actuality humans are used for the computing power of the brain. Every single human is networked together and essentially are used as a Beowulf Cluster for the Machines. This has allowed the Machines to reach a level of processing they can't achieve otherwise.
      All that waste energy, however.... such as the heat, could potentially be reclaimed. Perhaps that's why Morpheus believes we're used as batteries.

    • @TYANTOWERS
      @TYANTOWERS Місяць тому +1

      @@WhiteWolfDarkpaw IMO this was the one flaw in the premise. It is such a small change to make - to use humans for computing power - and it would have fixed everything

    "You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson..."
    "My name... is Neo."
    Fun, deep film. This movie is about free will and breaking free of the machine. Unfortunately, the second and third movies (while watchable) are philosophically inconsistent with this movie. The fourth movie is absolute garbage and completely unwatchable. I can't stop you from watching them, just be prepared to be disappointed in them.
    Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Tamara Brown.
    Mythology Fact: In Greek mythology, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is the god of dreams.
    The One Fact: To prepare for the scene where Neo wakes up in a pod, Keanu Reeves lost fifteen pounds and shaved his whole body to give Neo an emaciated look.
    Set Malfunction Fact: After the lobby shoot-out, the camera pans back, showing the aftermath of the gunfight. A moment passes, and a large chunk of one of the pillars falls off. This was not planned, but was left in for comedic effect.
    Not A Snowflake Fact: Carrie-Anne Moss twisted her ankle while shooting one of her scenes, but decided not to tell anyone until after filming, so they wouldn't re-cast her. Carrie-Anne Moss performed the shots featuring Trinity at the beginning of the film, and all the wire stunts throughout, herself.
    Sunglasses Enthusiast Fact: The iconic sunglasses worn by the Matrix characters are from the "Blinde" label, which prides itself on producing handmade glasses. The company's founder, Richard Walker, had to tender against large companies, such as Ray-Ban and Arnette, to win the film's sunglasses contract, and set himself apart by scratch-designing pairs of glasses based purely on the characters' unusual names. When his tender was successful, Walker was flown into Sydney where he spent the duration of the Matrix shoot custom-designing sunglasses for the cast in the back of an Oxford Street optometrist.

      I feel like many of us feel just too entitled these days. It used to be a good thing when stories left things up to interpretation.

    It's too bad you really liked Tank (the "Operator") because you won't be seeing him any more. (Not a spoiler!) The actor got really full of himself and made excessive demands of the studio for the next film, and they canned him. He only rates a throwaway line in that one. (FWIW, I liked him too.)
    The next two movies further the storyline but don't match the quality of storytelling in this one. Alternately spectacular and really bad effects.

    Neo is an INTP ( Logician ), one of the 16 MBTI personalities. Morpheus is an ENFP, Cipher is an ESTP, Trinity is an ISTP, agent smith is an ISTJ, the two goofs with agent smith are INFJ'S, Tank is an ESFJ. The Oracle is an INFJ. The Architect in Reloaded is INTJ. look into the 16 MBTI personalities, and find where you belong in this world along with everyone else. Also, this is loosely based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave written 380 b.c.
