I'm naturally blonde (ashy blonde) but have dyed my waist length hair vibrant red for the last 10 years. I don't regret the decision and I still absolutely love it, and always get comments on my hair colour. But like you say, the maintenance of it is a nightmare, especially as mine is so long. So, I've been thinking of maybe lightening up a few sections such as a balayage, but still keeping the depth of the red. How much work would be involved to achieve this look? And would it be easier to maintain the root growth?

I have my hair done in a cut that's best for my hair texture and thickness. If not it just doesn't lay right
