Good morning Shane. Thank you thank you thank you for this video!! I have been racking my brain on this issue for the last 2 weeks. You are a life/sanity saver! Lol. Great content as always and keep up the great videos for us HomeKit neophytes. Have a great Sunday!
@Delyn What’s the best way to pause the alarm from activating so I can leave for work in the morning without having to disarm and then rearm the system? I’m running the MS1 hubs with HomeKit.
Hi Shane. To activate Homekit mode, does the region have to be in the US? I have it in mainland China, and when activating the homekit mode, the AQARA alarm does not respond from the Home App (it does not activate / deactivate when using the Home App). I hope you can help me. Thanks.
It's been so long since I used it outside of the US region, but I don't think it has to be any specific region. I think it should work regardless of the region that is set, but not 100% sure.
I recently bought an Aqara TVOC sensor which is HomeKit compatible. I can’t setup automation in HomeKit app. using the Aqara unit. Everything works fine in the test mode but nothing happen after setup. Wonder why ? Appreciate your advise.
Hi Shane big fan from Slovakia, thank you for your great work. I already own some aqara devices and i was wondering from the security and private side, are you using aqara app in homekit only mode or do you log in? Thanks for your answer.
Hi, thanks a lot for this video. Can we use a HomeKit sensor which is not manufactured by Aqara to trigger the Alarm ? Would like to use a motion sensor from another brand if possible. If not possible then I don't find any advantage utility using Aqara.
Hi Shane thank you for your great work! I have purchased the Aqara door sensor after your recommendation. Question: can I prevent my blinds closing if the window is open? If so how would I program that automation in homekit? Any help appreciated. Thank you, Ian
Hi Shane. Thank you for your informative videos. They help a lot. By the way, is there any way in the Aqara Home app, to set an automation based on 'Leaving home' or "Arriving home'? For the life of me, I can't configure that
Thanks for watching! Glad the videos are helpful. I'm not sure about location based automations in the Aqara app, honestly. Since I use homekit, I usually create my location automations in HomeKit.
I love your videos. I get a lot of great ideas from what you are building. Only suggestion I have is when you are navigating in the apps. You move very quickly. It is hard to follow along. I know they are quick videos, but navigating a little slower will help to follow along. Just a thought. Thanks again for the great videos.
Another good video Shane! The ‘this sensor has been triggered for (however) this long’ notification is definitely something that needs to come to the Home App... I want a reminder when/if my garage door is left open, or an upstairs light is left on. Thanks for all your info. Keep ‘em coming.
Today I received an alert in Aqara app says, that the HomeKit mode is about to stop updating. It is recommended to use a new version of Aqara Home after logging in. :( So some day we all have to sign in and use it through Aqara servers. I hope they add security system support for HomeKit as it is now without signing in
Hi Shane, thanks for the video. I have a lot of Aqara devices, sensors, one hub and two cameras. I configured everything without issue and they really respond, but not do automations, I set this automations on home app and does not work even the button. After watching your video a switch to homekit mode and the region that was mainland to others because I'm in Angola África, but still the same. Because of this changes do I need to remove everything and connect again?
Hi , thanks for a great video! Do you know why when I do record consistently during the all night the camera makes a lot of 1 minute video instead of 1 for the all night?
Great videos Shane...three things: 1) if you lose wifi/internet don't all these things like Aqara fall apart? 2) is there any way to run/execute a Siri Shortcut by pushing a homekit button like the Aqara push button or Hue dimmer switch?? 3) do you think Apple will let us use non-Aqara sensors as triggers for the Aqara alarm?
Thanks Rod! To answer, 1) Yes, if the internet goes out, most things will typically not work right. 2)Sort of...I think. When you go to the settings to configure a button press, scroll all the way down and choose "convert to shortcut." Note: when converting HK automations to shortcuts, all of the normal shortcuts options are not available. 3) I'm not sure. That would be nice, but it would require Apple letting us configure the alarm settings in homekit, which I'm not too optimistic about.
Hey Shane quick question is there a way if your using Aqara as a security system is there away to set it armed but home in HomeKit? So we can open a window if we are hot but still have it armed? Or do i have to open the Aqara app and do it that way only?
No, unfortunately we only have two arm modes exposed to homekit: Away and Disarm. So when armed, anything sensors you've set as trigger devices will always set off the alarm.
Ι have 2 sendors connect it with an Aqara G2H and Aqara lamps. The lamps doesn't work properly what can i do? The distance from the camera isn't so long. Thank you.
I’ve just purchased the g2h pro and set it up in home kit but it’s not working correctly. Initially it was able to record to iCloud but I received no notifications whatsoever so I uninstalled it and reset the camera. I’ve now added it to HomeKit again but it won’t record at all and no notifications. Any idea on what the problem is?
Shane thanks for all you do and all the time you put into this awesome channel! My question is can you use the mini wireless switch to turn the alarm off and on? thanks
This was a freakin great video Shane ! The Aqaura system was driving me nuts when signed in ! My lights were not coming on when sensors were triggered etc....
Hi Shane ! I'm not sure to correctly understand the trick about using the homekit alarm system with aqara devices. I have all my aqara devices added on the aqara app, and all is bounded to my homekit app. But homekit alarm system enabled doesnt trigger the alarm when the contact sensor will be open. I also logged off on aqara app, but still doesnt work. Seems there someting I did not see. Is the "me home" app mandatory ? because I don't have the app. Do you have a tutorial on it or someting ? I feel like I'm close ;)
Hey Rudy. No, I don't use the Mi Home app anymore. A bit has changed with the Aqara app since this video was released. Here is the recent video on the Aqara Security Systems with HomeKit: ua-cam.com/video/vwjgP6BEMTA/v-deo.html
@@ShaneCreates OKEY ! I found what's went wrong. I set up the "Home Alert" in aqara which seems not linked to the Homkit system alert. So I set the "Away Alert" and all seems to be linked. Thank you again, thank you for all your work and videos that you do.
Hey Shane! Great video. Most of my smart home accessories are from Aqara. But I am unable to add more family members in my aqara home. When I send an invite, the other person does not get any notification in their aqara app's message center which they should. So he/she can't join. Do you know what the problem is or do you have any idea how to fix it? Looking forward to hear from you.
Hi, i set my alarm on and i open my door, then Aqara play police car sound. Its OK. How i set delay for example 30sec and send notification before alarm start? Send notification via HomeKit, no via MiHome app. Thanks
Jakub Vávrů I have not found a way to set a delay before the alarm starts when using HomeKit. For notifications, just turn on notifications for your door sensor in the home app.
Is this still necessary or can I remain signed in to the Aqara app? If I am signed in as Homekit mode on my iPhone, can I remain logged in with my non-Homekit user on my iPad or do I have to be in Homekit mode on all my devices? The problem I’m having is that my Homekit device names for Aqara devices, Home name and rooms don’t sync from Homekit to Aqara even though the sync says it completed
Hi Shane- i set everything up using the aqara app. Nothing shows up in Homekit. So i signed out of Aqara and switched to Homekit Mode. Then all devices are gone from the Aqara app. Now going to Home - nothing shows up. And when i want to pair the bridge (M2) with the scan code it gets recognized - but is not able to connect. When going to Aqara it can´t connect to the Hub- only when i reset the Hub - which would lead to losing all my automations and starting all over again. Any idea?
Not sure what's going on, sounds like you've tried a lot of things. I sign in to the Aqara app so I can take advantage of the additional automation options in the Aqara app. Once signed in, you should be able to go to the HomeKit section in the 'Profile' tab and bind any of your accessories to homekit.
great video shane. really liked the part about starting an automation in aqara and then letting homekit take over the rest. anyway there was one thing i wanted to ask about the ipad that u used as a central control panel. how did u set it up? like how do you make sure that only the home app shows up. and other family members do not switch to other apps and mess up your icloud connected stuff like imessage etc. Or did you make it such that it only runs the home app and deleted all the other apps on it? thinking of doing the same with my current ipad when it is time for me to change to a new one.
Thanks! You can set up i it “kiosk mode” I think it’s called which will lock it to a specific app. But I don’t have the need to do that. No one at my house really messes with it. I actually set up a separate iCloud account just for that iPad tho so it doesn’t get messages and all that which I don’t want there. Then I just leave the home app or home+ open to control it. It’s also cool to visually be able to control the music and airplay to an Apple TV or HomePod.
Hey Jason. I don’t have my lights in Aqara. You can connect and automate your Phillips lights with your Aqara stuff through HomeKit (the Home app) as I’ve done.
Hey, love these vids! Great help! I am about to buy me an aqara system, but wondered. Can I make an automation for controlling electrical heaters with smart plug, based on data from the temperature sensor?
Hey Jerome, thanks for watching. You can create temperature automations that, for example, turn the smart plug on or off when the temperature reaches a certain level.
Hey Shane, this is off topic but do you know why my accessories keep reverting back to my “default” room. I constantly have to keep changing accessories back to the appropriate room. But I noticed it always changes it to the “default” room. Have you had this happen to you? Should I be assigning the rooms in the respective apps or HomeKit ? Some apps don’t allow you to change the accessory to the room you want it in.
Hey Ivan. No I don’t have experience with that issue personally. Does it happen with all accessories or just certain ones? Have you tried removing the accessories from HomeKit and then re-adding them?
Yeah it’s weird, it happens mostly to hue motion detector, my 3 Logi circle 2 cameras, the aqara kit that I just bought. But it really moves around sporadically. I’ll try removing it from HomeKit and adding. Thanks for getting back to me quickly!
Ivan Loi no problem. Good luck! If that doesn’t work I’d also try resetting my HomeKit hub, maybe signing out and back in to iCloud on all devices and keychain. Hopefully one of those things will work!
do you know why I can not find the Security System anymore with the latest patch? I still have it within homekit, but can not adjust the sensors within the Aqara app
Hey Shane, I use the hub M2 and all automations work even though I have not signed out of the Aqara app. So I setup the alarm conditions on the Aqara app and they automatically work in Homekit. This must have changed with the most recent app updates or it can be a feauture of the M2. Can you please confirm that ?
Not sure if I understand, but that's always been the case. The alarm conditions should work in HomeKit whether or not you are signed in to the Aqara app.
I might be a little challenged because for the life of me I can’t figure out how to set the alarm up in HomeKit. 🤣 It is so much easier in the Aqara app. I can’t figure out how to set triggers in HomeKit.
Great video with good tips! I use Aqara door sensors, and would like to get a notification if a door or window is open when no one is home. Do you know if that is possible?
Hi Shane and thank you for your nice videos👍 I’ve set up an automation in the aqara app to sent push notifications when the door is open more then x minutes then signed out and switched to homekit mode but i dont get any notifications when I sign in again and test the automation again then i will get a notification. Any idea?
I'm not sure why that would happen. I would reach out to Aqara support and see if they have any idea. I had notifications set for my wireless mini switch in the Aqara app for a while and it worked fine in HomeKit mode. Maybe there is an issue with the timed notifications?
Hi Shane ! Me again…. XD Love your work by the way. Today I received two Aqara hubs (M1S and E1) I have another one hub which is knowned in Aqara hub as the 603D. I clearly not be able to add the E1 and I don’t know why but I will find out. And about the M1S, the bind sequence just fail. And I asked myself what this feature supposed to do ? Another thing… as I rewatch this video I paid attention the the region my Aqara app is set. And it ….. Chinese. My correct region is Europe. I am stuck ? Is the region settings will explain some of my issues ? Thanks.
I figured out that the M1S was on « mi home app » mode. So I switched it on « Aqara app mode » and it worked fine. Still stucked with my E1…. I will succed it ;)
I am using the Aqara app and have over 20 devices added to it. Is there a way to migirate them all to the Mi home app? Or do I then have to re-add every device? Nice video. Thanks!
Thanks Zack! I believe there is a way to “bind” your hub in the mi home app that should switch everything over, but I’m not completely sure. I’ve had trouble in the past trying that. Just take caution and know if you do switch, you might have to just re-pair everything.
Hey, I need some advice. Aqara's automation doesn't work. I have set 7 and 21 hours color and brightness of light. Do you know what to do with it? Thanks for the reply
Abel if you want HomeKit without an hub then the Eve is best for that. If you are a IKea Tradfri user then you can get a Ikea plug for £9 that supports HomeKit, but you need an hub
No not really. I like using HomeKit for automations and everything else. I sign in to the Aqara app just to set up some of my Aqara devices. Those automations will still work. Then I sign out and use HomeKit mode on a daily basis.
Love the videos Shane. Started watching a few months ago and almost have the entire homkit setup now thanks to you. I am currently setting up the aqara security system. As I am watching your video just now I noticed you have all the different aqara accessories showing as separate tiles. How did you achieve this? I can only see them when i go into accessory details and bridged accessories but not from the home view or room view. I am running ios16. Hopefully you or one of your followers will be able to answer this for me as web search yielded no results. Thanks, and keep up the great content!
Hi there, thanks for watching! This video is a bit older and both the Home app and Aqara app have changed some. Sounds like you are referring to the Home app. In iOS 15 (I think) they changed the way sensors are displayed in the Home app. They no longer get their own tile, but are displayed in the "status" section instead. You can find them in each room, and in the accessory's settings you can choose whether or not to display on the home tab and in status notifications, etc. Hope that helps.
Hey Shane, I just download the mi home app. Once I did that when I returned to the Aqara app, it erased my pairing to the aqara hub. So it’s wanting me to re -pair it to aqara. Was that supposed to happen? Are you supposed to have the mi home and aqara app at the same time? Do they interfere with one another?
Ivan, that’s correct...you must choose one or the other (last time I tried) and cannot use both at the same time. There are definitely benefits to using the mi home app, but as I mention in this video, I had to switch back to the Aqara app in order to get two hubs from different regions to both work properly.
Another great video. Does the hub connect to WiFi? Does it need Ethernet? What’s the range? I want one hub at the back of my garden in my gym building, and one in the house. Around 30 meters-40 meters. Will this work? WI-FI is present everywhere. Thanks
Thanks man! The hub connects to wifi. I did an initial video a while back on setting up the hub. But as long as you have good wifi you should be fine. The Aqara accessories connect to the hub via zigbee, so the range there is pretty good as well.
Xavier A so there is not a way to do this currently in the Aqara app. Hopefully they will add that. If I recall correctly, this can be achieved using the mi home app, but that wouldn’t do me much good since I couldn’t get both of my hubs working in the mi home app at the same time. But if you have both hubs set to the same region working in the mi home app, it should be possible. I was thinking of a round-about way to achieve this in the Aqara app for my situation. I haven’t tried this yet but.... You would have to have an Aqara smart plug. In HomeKit (the Home app) make an automation that turns on your Aqara smart plug when the alarm is triggered. Then in the Aqara app, make an automation the plays an alarm sound on your hubs when the smart plug is turned on. The smart plug would just work as a dummy plug, if that makes sense.
Shane Whatley makes sense but silly that we’d have to do it that way. Another frustrating thing I’ve found is door trigger sounds like wired alarms are lacking. I’ve set up the if then to play a sound and it work when the door is opened however it’s not immediately turning it off when the door is closed. It’s like that automation doesn’t work.
Xavier A yea I agree. You were able to Link hubs together in the Mi Home app so hopefully that feature will make it over to the Aqara app eventually too. Lots of things that used to be only possible in the mi home app are making their way over to the Aqara app I’ve noticed. For your door, are talking about like a chime sound or something when you open the door? Like a traditional alarm?
Not sure how you set yours up, but playing the “arming sound” or “disarming sound” as a ringtone when a door is opened seems to work pretty well (using Aqara app). It sounds like a little chirp.
Maybe I’m missing it but in the Aqara app I can’t find anywhere to add an end time to an automation, only start. The MI app allows me to run the automation between, lets say 7 am and stop at 9 pm. My condo is setup kind of weird, the main outside door opens up into my balcony which then has a second door to the condo. Looking from outside you would never know the first door is not the main door so when people knock on it I can’t hear them. We’re not allowed to add things on the outside so I used one of the vibration sensors on the inside so I know when somebody’s knocking. In the MI app I had it set to flash and make noise from 7 am till 9 pm and then from 9 pm till 7 am only flash so the noise would not wake up my two year old.
Bruce, that’s such a great way to use the vibration sensor! Very cool. Yea I don’t see the end time either in the scheduling of automations using the Aqara app. However I don’t normally use the scheduling feature here like you have. I’d suggest contacting customer support and see if they have a solution. If not, you may be best still using the mi home app. I think some features are still only available in the mi home app. Hopefully the Aqara app will continue to get better and keep adding these features.
Thanks for a great video pal. Wonder if Aqara switch works with other brands, have you got any experience with it? For example if I have both Aqara and hue bridges at home can I turn hue lights with Aqara Wireless Switch on HomeKit? Just ordered hue hub but can't wait to know :)
Thanks Dawid! Yes, the beauty of homekit is that everything can work together through automations. The Aqara wireless switch is homekit compatible so therefore you can control any of your lights that are exposed to homekit as well.
Hello, How do you make the Chinese hub work in the US? I always get the error message when I try to set up my hub It's only work when I change to mainland China region
I also have 2 hubs and everything works fine. Only the alarm will play there where it is detected. Means if a window will be opened on the ground floor only the hub for the ground floor will play the alarm. Is there a trick to play the alarm on both hubs?
I haven not found a way to do this in the Aqara app. If I recall correctly, this can be accomplished when using the Mi Home app instead of the Aqara app. The problem for me was that I have two hubs from different regions (one US and one Chinese) and I could not get them both working in the Mi Home app because of the region issue. I'm assuming you are using the Aqara app. If you have two hubs from the same region, you may want to try the Mi Home app. Just be warned, switching things over can go smoothly or require a bunch of troubleshooting. But once you get things setup how you like, everything usually works great in my experience.
@@gecotztes shoot I thought that was possible at one time. If not, hopefully Aqara will add that functionality to the app in the future. Just a thought, if you have HomePods or airplay 2 speakers throughout the house, you can create an automation for them to play a loud siren if your Aqara hub is ever triggered.
@@ShaneCreates I have no airplay speakers but i found out now that once you have set up everything in homekitmode you can sign in again and use all the other cool stuff like notifications when a window is open for x minutes and so on. Thats really cool. Do you know the best solution for a garage opener in HomeKit?
@@gecotztes Yep, I switch back and forth between signed in and HomeKit mode all the time to adjust and create automations in the Aqara app. For a HK garage door opener, I usually recommend the garage door controller by Insignia because it is super cheap compared to others. It's what I've used for over a year and it gets the job done. There have since been some others that have been released but I think they are all more expensive. Here's link to the video. It was one of my first HomeKit videos I ever made! 😬 🤦♂️ ua-cam.com/video/4UNUSzHhOeA/v-deo.html
Hey man, this is a question that I think bridges a couple videos, but I am asking here because this is where I want it....so everybody just relax! So here is my problem; I have the Insignia garage door opener and an Aqara mini-button-thingy. I have some light tricks working on it just fine, but for the garage door I cannot get to work. For all three button press options I started with a Dummy Switch to streamline the automation. With the garage door it is "Single Button Press" turns on Dummy Switch...."Automation" when Dummy Switch is turned on (move to shortcut) [Power State>IF Open>close, IF closed>open]. It does not work. Nothing. Won't even open a little bit to show me who is really in control. I know in another video you discussed using a dummy switch to fool the "protection" Apple has on super serious doors and stuff. What could I be missing?
Hey Shaun. So yea, I use the dummy switch to automate the garage door and bypass that security authentication that is required for automations. But you shouldn't need that when using a homekit button to control the door. That just adds another step that may not be necessary (more potential points of failure). Instead, try Single Button Press > convert to shortcut...then do your IF statement there, skipping the dummy switch part. Hopefully that will work.
Thanks man! I agree, but it looks like they are trying to give you more options in the Aqara app to set up different alarm modes. Which is nice tbh, but I’m sure that just conflicts with the alarm mode in HomeKit.
I bought the European version of the hub last year and ever since you posted the video on delaying the alarm sound I’ve wanted to do so. While watching this video I went into my Aqara app and noticed that I don’t have the automations tab and when going into region it says “HomeKit only” for Europe. I wonder why they would leave that out for a specific region. I also noticed that my app version was 1.6.3, whereas yours was 1.6.1 I believe, but I guess that’s for the same reason.
Henrik Toubro yea I believe there are some restrictions in Europe that are preventing them from giving access to all the features. And since you have the EU version of the hub, you are not able to change regions. Have you tried using the Mi Home app instead of the Aqara app?
Nice work! It really helps me with my smart home setup. BTW, just wondering if you could do a video about the latest Aqara G2H which supports HomeKit Secure Video. It costs only about 80 bucks, which is much cheaper than the existing solutions on the market.
Mark Russell yes, if using an Aqara switch and signed in to the Aqara app, you should be able to create an automation to turn on/off the alarm and add a delay.
Mark Russell for a delay when the door is opened, you might be able to set that up using the alarm features in the Aqara app, but I haven’t found a way to do that when using HomeKit mode.
Eden Rozenberg I don’t believe the Aqara camera supports HomeKit currently. I don’t know if any that are quite as affordable as the Aqara cameras that support HomeKit out of the box. I’ve used the Logitech circle 2 lately, which cost a little bit more, but supports HomeKit Secure Video which I’m a big fan of.
I had to remove everything and set it up again in the Aqara app because I was experimenting with the settings and messing everything up. You may be able to open the Aqara app tho and search for hubs that you can bind to.
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
I just posted in Discord with this exact problem...then promptly deleted 5 mins later after finding this video! Cheers Shane, see you Wednesday!! :-)

Can I connect the camera directly via HomeKit? Or do I need the aqara app first

The ‘this sensor has been triggered for (however) this long’ notification is definitely something that needs to come to the Home App...

Hmm, it’s hard to say what the problem is. The automations should work in HomeKit regardless, assuming you setup the automation in the Home app.
Hi , thanks for a great video!
Do you know why when I do record consistently during the all night the camera makes a lot of 1 minute video instead of 1 for the all night?
Are Apple Homekit compatible Aqara components also compatible with Bosch Smart Home?
Great video Shane! How do I connect my Hue lights to my Aqara M2 hub?
Only Aqara child devices can connect to the Aqara hub
Hmm is it possible to use Aqara door Sensor in shortcuts?
Great videos Shane...three things: 1) if you lose wifi/internet don't all these things like Aqara fall apart? 2) is there any way to run/execute a Siri Shortcut by pushing a homekit button like the Aqara push button or Hue dimmer switch?? 3) do you think Apple will let us use non-Aqara sensors as triggers for the Aqara alarm?
Thanks Rod! To answer,
1) Yes, if the internet goes out, most things will typically not work right.
Shane Whatley doesn’t work went power’s out. Okay
Nice video as always Shane.
Thanks!!
Shane Whatley it’s AJR btw
Hello, are using home hub as well? Because I don’t have automations available in HomeKit without it
Yes, you need a homekit hub for automation in homekit.
My question is can you use the mini wireless switch to turn the alarm off and on?
thanks
Thanks Gregory for watching! Yes you can use the mini switch to turn the Alarm off and on. I have one that I use all the time for this.
If I’m in Malaysia. Is it best to use all Global version for all hubs and child devices?
Yes, you can remain signed in to the Aqara app now and use with homekit.
Thank you
great video shane. really liked the part about starting an automation in aqara and then letting homekit take over the rest. anyway there was one thing i wanted to ask about the ipad that u used as a central control panel. how did u set it up? like how do you make sure that only the home app shows up. and other family members do not switch to other apps and mess up your icloud connected stuff like imessage etc.
Shane Whatley thanks for sharing what u did ;)
Shane how where you able to get your lights into Aqara? I have phillips hue and aqara doesnt show them
Hey Jason. I don’t have my lights in Aqara. You can connect and automate your Phillips lights with your Aqara stuff through HomeKit (the Home app) as I’ve done.
Hey,
love these vids!
@@ShaneCreates thx a lotm its what I need :)
Useful info, Shane! Thanks!
do you know why I can not find the Security System anymore with the latest patch? I still have it within homekit, but can not adjust the sensors within the Aqara app
I brought Aquara M1S smart home hub.I can pare it with my apple home app.But i can't add aquara window sensor on apple home app.
You have to add the sensors in the Aqara app. They will then automatically show up in the home app.
Also, I'll be doing a new video on the M2 hub one of these days... once it becomes available in the US probably.
@@ShaneCreates Ok, got it, many thanks !
So if you have night mode set up to come on at a certain time in aqara and you sign out will it arm your security system in HomeKit at that time?
I'm not sure, haven't tried that method. You can just do the same thing in homekit... homekit automation to arm the security alarm at a certain time.
I might be a little challenged because for the life of me I can’t figure out how to set the alarm up in HomeKit. 🤣 It is so much easier in the Aqara app. I can’t figure out how to set triggers in HomeKit.
You have to set the trigger devices in the Aqara app. You can’t configure that in the home app.
If you could tell me how to do that I would really appreciate it. Or do you have a video on that already? Thanks for your help.
Great video with good tips! I use Aqara door sensors, and would like to get a notification if a door or window is open when no one is home. Do you know if that is possible?
Yes if using homekit, go to the settings of the sensor and turn on Notifications. You can then choose "when nobody is home."
Thanks for watching!
Shane Whatley of course! Thanks!! How about a timed delay? Like if the window is open for more than x minutes?
@@mortengudbrandsen probably possible with siri shortcuts somehow
Thank you, good video Shane!
Fabrizio Genuise thanks for watching!
Hi Shane ! Me again…. XD
Love your work by the way.
Today I received two Aqara hubs (M1S and E1)
I have another one hub which is knowned in Aqara hub as the 603D.
I will succed it ;)
Is there a difference in the range of alarm ringtones between the hub and g2h Camera?
Yes, I don't believe the G2H has as many ringtones options as the other hubs.
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question. What automation does not work?

Hi Shane I wanted your opinion on an affordable stand alone (no hub required) homekit smart plug and which one you’d pick up if it were yourself?
Great vid again by the way
For the U.K. it only seems to be the eve energy but it seemed a little bit too expensive for the very simple use we needed it for
Abel if you want HomeKit without an hub then the Eve is best for that. If you are a IKea Tradfri user then you can get a Ikea plug for £9 that supports HomeKit, but you need an hub
Thanks Abel! Not too sure in the UK. The believe Vocolink just released a UK smart plug, no hub required. They are usually very affordable.
Can the aqara Continuously record on the gh2 on homekit? Or only a minute at a time?
I haven't actually tested the G2H yet...will do in the near future though.
To summaries, if we use Aqara as main smart home, just use Aqara apps instead HK. Right Shane? at least for now
No not really. I like using HomeKit for automations and everything else. I sign in to the Aqara app just to set up some of my Aqara devices. Those automations will still work. Then I sign out and use HomeKit mode on a daily basis.
But yea, if you don’t use other HomeKit stuff and only Aqara, then just use the Aqara app probably.
Ok great. Thanks again for the info! Love your videos! Look forward to the next one!
Ivan Loi your welcome. Thanks for watching and supporting!
Shane Whatley thanks for the info. Heard there is a UK hub on the horizon. Will wait for that then
Xiomi accessories work in aqara?
Hey Shane do both hubs sound when the alarm is activated and triggered? If so how did you do so.
You were able to
Link hubs together in the Mi Home app so hopefully that feature will make it over to the Aqara app eventually too. Lots of things that used to be only possible in the mi home app are making their way over to the Aqara app I’ve noticed.
For your door, are talking about like a chime sound or something when you open the door? Like a traditional alarm?
Shane Whatley exactly like a traditional alarm. It’s something I’ve always liked.
Not sure how you set yours up, but playing the “arming sound” or “disarming sound” as a ringtone when a door is opened seems to work pretty well (using Aqara app). It sounds like a little chirp.
Hey. Great video.
Do you have any update on this now in June? Does this work better between HomeKit and Aqara?
Thanks! Everything works well as long as you use HomeKit mode.
Shane Whatley Amazing. Thanks a lot
Awesome! Cheers
Hello,
How do you make the Chinese hub work in the US? I always get the error message when I try to set up my hub
It's only work when I change to mainland China region
You may have to use the China region. I believe that's what I did for a while, but it's been quite a while since I used the Chinese hub.
I was not able to get 2 hubs working in the mi home app. Maybe its not only a region problem.

My issue is that my wireless switch will not show up in the home app, and I’ve set it up in the aqara app properly.
How are you utilizing your Beer Fridge vibration sensor?
Hey Brian, I’m just using it to get notifications when someone opens the fridge when I’m not home. Because you know...teenagers...
Can it send a notification if temp. In a room gets below of 20 degrades?
Claus Baggesgaard yes you can do that with the temperature sensor.
Hey Shane, is this still true, or has Aqara fixed this?
Nice video man! Does the aqara hub work well with Yeelights?
Cornholio thanks! The only Yeelight products I’ve used have been direct to WiFi, no hub needed.
@@ShaneCreates yeah but i want to activate them with sensors so i need the hub
Cornholio if you use HomeKit you can automate everything together in the home app.
Do you still have to log out… after it’s been x amount of months
On one word you are à HomeKit lord.
Could you please show us how to turn two or more hubs to a doorbell on the same time
haha thanks! I'm only running one hub at the moment.
Good stuff. Thanks for the update. Hopefully in the near future you won’t have to sign out for it to work.
Thanks Jack! Yes I plan to review that camera, it’s just hasn’t become available in my area yet. Hopefully soon!
When you add a switch to the Aqara app and use it to trigger the alarm On and off can you set a delay?
Yes, set the delay in the settings from the alarm (not homekit), i use the Xiaomi home app.
Jeronimo 1971 can you delay the alarm from going off for a period of time when the door is open to give enough time to reach the switch in the house
Shane Whatley I’ve created a work around with a button and auction in the aqara app 👌🏼
Hey Shane is the Aqara security camera HomeKit supported? If not is there any other affordable (around same price) security camera that is?
Eden Rozenberg I don’t believe the Aqara camera supports HomeKit currently. I don’t know if any that are quite as affordable as the Aqara cameras that support HomeKit out of the box. I’ve used the Logitech circle 2 lately, which cost a little bit more, but supports HomeKit Secure Video which I’m a big fan of.
Shane, is it possible to edit the phrases in the Mi Home app for the audio when say a door opens? I would like it to say “Front Door Open”.
Hi how do you go back to the Aqara app from the mi home app
I had to remove everything and set it up again in the Aqara app because I was experimenting with the settings and messing everything up. You may be able to open the Aqara app tho and search for hubs that you can bind to.
i'm literally jumped up on the chair 0:12 because of this loud shit
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
