  • In this episode of Underwater Answers Rob Hughes takes a look at some of the problems facing anglers when targeting carp in the summer months. Primarily Rob looks at algae and how it can affect your presentation. He then moves on to surface fishing with some interesting revelations on how carp see your hook bait on the surface.

    Distance fishing please rob wud love to see how far off your baited spot we are at 140+ yards with a good cross wind. and just to see if your fishing amongst are bait even in a no wind situation keep the films coming great watch but distance fishing is a must get the Bart man on it.

    Long range casting, 130+ yrds. Spombing at this range, line bow in cross winds. How deep do leads plug in different lake beds.

    Outstanding video. Info money can't buy. Technical vids seem to have disappeared into the depths , definitely would love to see more like this. Did you have any opinion on white? Can't help but wonder of the effects of contrast of baits , understandable you can't fit it all in one segment. Great Job Rob and Fox as always. Many thanks.

    Excellent video a real eye opener to how different coloured baits look in different depths and water conditions. Really enjoyed watching that. Thanks Rob 👍

    Great video. If you can find a lake that has weed, silt, gravel and sand (maybe even clay as well) and see which bait, colour, size and shape works best on all of them, that would be amazing. Thanks Rob

    Good watch. Would a bigger hook Bait and big hook still do the same job as a small hook and Bait. Basically match the size of your Bait to the hook

    Many fisheries add blue die to reduce weed growth in summer. What effect do you think this has on colour of zigs?

    Best way to approach a weedy venue where the carp are quick to move on any angling pressure and like to sit in the upper layers in the warmer months? Being a boilie and pellet only venue zigs are out of the question.

  • @mxm1766

    How, or should I say can one use a float rig in the river?

  • @DjDolHaus86
    @DjDolHaus86 5 років тому

    I think sometimes surface feeding fish miss because they're simply moving a lot of water and unless they time the opening of the mouth to perfection the floater is always prone to going away from or around them. It's kind of like if you try to grab a floating bubble when you're in the bath, every move you make with your submerged hand pushes water ahead of it and the bubble always seems out of reach. I suspect that a floater with a hook and line attached would behave differently in this regard because of the extra mass (less susceptible to being acted on by outside forces) and completely different centre of gravity (the hook acts like a keel and the line would act kind of like a rudder), perhaps sometimes the fish are expecting it to react more than it does and this can cause them to miss or abort the take.

    Ok Rob so if 1ft here or there makes the difference with colours depending on the time of day what zig aligner colour would you recommend as a baseline so you could switch the foam colour without having to change the whole rig over or is it just a preference for you to use single colours? I would have thought a black aligner and switching colours of foam for the best contrast would be a winner, have you not tested multi coloured arrangements?

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  5 років тому

      Rod Duster you are right in a having a Black Zig Aligna as a good base. The piece of foam is the bigger brighter item so a Black Aligna would be perfect and change the foam to suit.

    Would it be stupid to say that a carps eyesight underwater is probably a lot better than ours, even in these sort of situations?

    • @daleHarrison93
      @daleHarrison93 3 роки тому

      defo not and when people say they cant see different colours etc its bullshit

  • @DaveLippy
    @DaveLippy 4 роки тому

    A couple of questions, 1/. why would hook size matter on a floater bait, if the carp can see the hook and recognise it as something to avoid then why would they take a zig where it is on show from all angles?
    2/. when choosing bait colour and visibility in the water should we be thinking about how they appear through human eyes? The red end of the colour spectrum in light gets filtered out in water the deeper you go through it, so it would make sense that fish that live and spend a lot of time in deeper water would evolve eyes that dont make use of the red colour spectrum and find those harder to see than us, so maybe a yellow bait which is more mid range in the light colour spectrum would be easier for a carp to see than the red in that thick algae. Anyone owning an aquarium can shine a red light at night into their tank and not disturb the fish as they dont see it! also maybe carp have polarised vision and surface reflection isn't a problem for them.
    I like these videos but I think the tests need a more scientific approach and should be teamed up more with people who have a fish biology background as well as an anglers point of view that could be biased by the days on the banks pondering why we missed that bite.

    I think these vids raise questions , not answer them . as we get more info the answers will come . it is arrogant to present what were seeing as definitive answers .
