  • In this new series, brought to you by underwater expert Rob Hughes, we are looking to dispel myths, answer questions and test theories all with the aid of Rob and his diving kit. In episode one we are looking at casting to a clip and the affect different types of mainline have on the where the lead ends up on the lake bed. It is an incredibly interesting watch with some very intriguing results.
    Fox Fishing TV is home to a huge collection of carp fishing videos. With clips and films ranging from, The Challenge with Mark Pitchers and Chilly’s Vlog to all the very latest product videos and Free Carp Fishing DVD’s at Fox Fishing TV we have carp-related content covered. Fox International is one of the world’s biggest carp fishing tackle manufacturers, supplying well over 3000 products to carp anglers who require quality fishing tackle that is up to our exceptionally high standards. The best underwater series. You actually do experiments instead of just waiting for runs

    This is great if you already know the wraps to a clean area. However if you were fishing on a dinner plate size spot and clip up the marker when your lead is dragged over it, the second time you go to cast the marker float onto the same spot you would be short of the spot.

    • @matthewjones1089
      @matthewjones1089 Рік тому +1

      If the spot is 15 wraps out when you clip up the marker, in ten feet of water you would need to add a few feet the second time you re do the marker.

    Another thing, which would have been super interesting: if this could be repeated at 20 yards and 80 yards. Because the range has some super significant impact on the stretch behavior of monos and impacts the swing back behavior 😊. That would be super cool 👌.

    Great vid. One thing I think might have helped in this project, was to get Rob to swim out with the maker, and drop it in the square patch, then clip the line. This would give you the exact number of wraps instead of casting to the area. Then clip the leads up to the same distance and see how accurate the cast is in comparison.

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  6 років тому +2

      Hi Col, the marker was cast first then the area was set next to it so the number of wraps with the Marker lead was exact.

    • @matthewjones1089
      @matthewjones1089 Рік тому +1

      So you have to still give a few feet of line on the second cast of the marker float to get back onto the spot you found when dragging it the first time around?

    Just watched this again after the spomb vid. I think the white lead at 25:49 was not much short despite it bouncing back because it would fall more vertical on the slacker line. Obviously on a big bounce back or shallow water it would not 'correct' itself so much.

    Gret watch lads, seems to be more about your casting style than the difference in wrap dimensions to the marker rod.

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  6 років тому

      Exactly right Ian that was one of the main points that came up for Rob and Lee came to throughout the test. They started thinking it would be the type of line that makes the most difference (high stretch or low stretch) but in reality its not the biggest factor. Interesting points about the affect of the casting style has on bounce back and interesting that bounce back is more apparent when using fluorocarbon over mono. Glad you enjoyed it Ian!

    Real eye opener! Amazing work guys!
    However, would love to have seen the comparison include braided mainlines too to see what the complete lack of stretch equates to in distance from the spot. Also would've been nice to see how a spod or two of bait would fall in the zone..

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mark, the spot was found with braid so the distance for clipping up would not change. Wait for episode 2 in a few weeks, we have filmed putting spods out in that one so you will be able to see that.

    • @markbaker3528
      @markbaker3528 6 років тому

      Yeah I figured that with the marker rod, but my thinking was that maybe because of the lack of stretch in braid, it could possibly bounce back a bit more than mono when hitting the clip due to a lack of give in the line, so would you need to add a small amount of distance when clipping up?

    Good work guys. It would be great to see this done when dropping rigs from a baitboat, using different lines (fluoro v braid for example). Assuming you've found a spot using a sonar are we talking about taking the boat another 30cms then clipping up the line to that distance to allow for swing back?

  • @Markusgebvor
    @Markusgebvor 4 роки тому

    The interesting thing is, that you marker/spot with a rod held horizontally. That means, the braided line is pointing directly towards the spot. When casting the baited up rod, you are hitting the clip with vertical rod and then feeling the lead down until the rod ist maybe angled up 45 degreeish. That means, you should add some line from a theoretical point of view, to compensate for the lifted up rod.
    But, as you have shown, this is not really an effect. Especially with Monos dir to stretch. That is a super important fact to take into account. Thanks :).

  • @Blupa.
    @Blupa. 6 років тому +1

    I don’t know if this has already been said but maybe by clipping the marker rod up with the rod at the same angle as when you’ve just cast and hit the clip with would make a couple of feet difference . The video showed Rob clipping the marker rod up with a near horizontal rod whereas when hitting the clip on the fishing rods you’re at a far greater angle and even after feeling the lead down the fishing rod still was at a greater angle than horizontal 👍

    • @matthewjones1089
      @matthewjones1089 Рік тому

      Not once in the video did they mention that when you’ve casted out the marker, dragged it back and clipped it up on the spot you want, it won’t land on the same spot when you re cast the marker to find the spot again.

      exactly what I was thinking as well! I always use the 3ft of water to 1ft shorter on the spomb rule. Also it would be interesting to see what the difference was with fishing at say 100 yards, would the stretch in the mono make clipping up at the same difference be less accurate?.

    If your fishing in 20ft-25ft how much further would you clip your rigs compared to the marker? And how much further/shorter would you clip your spomb??

    Fluorcarbon also once stretched doesnt return back to its original form like mono does as it lacks the elasticity . Maybe the fluorocarbon was older and had already been pre stretch from use on the spool that landed further out than it should have . New/er fluorocarbon will have more stretch to begin with so maybe bounces back more . So maybe fluorocarbon needs to be pre stretched or worn in first to get accurate readings !!!

      Wouldn't say the 3.25 rods are broomsticks, but yes they are stiffer, so it could have contributed for sure. The lack of stretch in Fluorocarbon however would have been a far more influential factor.

    brilliant vid lads, the best by far on this subject. you didn't really touch on distance and depth. also stop worrying so much about how hard you hit the clip and instead clip up a few reels turns past the spot and reel 3 turns back as soon as the lead hits the water. that way the line's straight and it's consistent. fish braid on all rods. or buy a bait boat and know you're bang on then. to have a better idea about the drop use a lighter lead. top vid
