The chaos, the beauty and even the mundane of Tokyo are all represented beautifully here. I think I would leave Tokyo black and blue from constantly bumping into things while trying to take photographs.
Many yeas since I was in Tokyo. Loved the fact that you could safely walk around the back streets at night due to the low incidence of crime. Terrific series of night images captured by you and Chloe. Makes me want to go back.
Very cool Matt, I would love to visit Tokyo. I wonder if you had time to visit MAP Camera? I purchased several used lens from MAP Camera. Their description of used equipment is absolutely honest. I would highly recommend them. Anyhow, thanks for the images, I could take 15 min to look at each one, so much to take in. I love my 24-120 f4. Take care, Ted
Awesome pics! I wonder if you could comment on the real added value of the Plena beyond the incredible capabilities of the Z85mm f/1.2. What would one gain from having them *both*, that is besides the longer reach of the 135... Many thanks.
Been a few years since I went to Japan, I had the privilege to go there in late 2019, right before the pandemic. I even made a video about my time there with the OG Z6 when it was new. I visited Tokyo and Kyoto. If you ever travel towards west make sure to swing by Nara and met the every so polite deer!
What a Wonderfull set of images the colors at night, the architecture, the hustle and bustle of the people in the city, you must be having a great time. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your stay. - Jeff
My man Matt, this is beautiful! So many excellent compositions! And the music... Absolutely perfect! I don't know how you managed to focus and apply your skill so well in a place where I personally would be overwhelmed and in awe of everything around me. However, you and Chloe did an excellent job taking your time and capturing the perfect set of images that bring your viewers into these scenes with you! Bravo!
Felt like I was there myself, thank you for a wonderful video 🙏 If you have never heard how Japaneses pronounce the word “Nikon”, ask one of them to pronounce it for you. Since the day that I asked a Nikon staff to pronounce it (slowly), my family has been pronouncing it the right way. Good fun learning languages 🤓
Great work and compilation Matt! Tokyo is my favorite city in the world to visit!! During my career, I spent 6 1/2 years of my life working in Japan before I retired in 2019. I now travel there for vacation at least once a year and during my last trip, I used my new Nikon Z6-II with 24-200 and 40 mm lenses!! If you are still there, make sure to visit Akihabara District and Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku. You will not be disappointed! 😎
Phantastic video, many thanks for sharing it. I own the Zf (one of the first ones in Austria) and the 24-120. The Plena is on my list... (especially after this video of yours! 🙂)
Hello Matt, I know you love your night time image, But these are just super images. Great work, all handheld? Keep well, keep safe and have a great time at Nikon?
Plena may be one percent better than the Sigma but at three times the price. In certain aspects, the S 1:16 igma seems to be actually a bit better than the Nikon. On a shot to shot basis, it's very hard to tell the difference between the two lenses. No one paying for a professional photographer would ever notice the difference
Hi Matt, thanks for this great review ! I'm switching from F to Z mount - I have Z 24 70 f/2,8 and 105 MC - Do you think of the 135 Plena f/1,8 paired with 105 MC can goes right instead of the Z 70 200, witch is a big and heavy lens ?
Hi Matt, I have just received my Nikon Zf today from Adorama. And I noticed that I have strange rattling sound like loosing parts inside the camera are knocking on each other when I shake the camera in off position. But when I turn on the camera - nothing is rattling inside the camera and it is silent when I turn the camera on. The same sound I heard when I detached unparked lens once. When I shake my Z6 II in off position - it is always silent. No rattling sounds. Is this normal?
Yes it's normal. Unlike your Z6ii, the ZF does not lock the IBIS mechanism when powered off. That rattling sound is your sensor hitting the limits of its movement.
I really like the 135mm perspective although I'm not sure I'll get the Plena. I already have two Nikon 135mm lenses for 35mm (my third 135mm is a Nikkor lens for large format), and I like the way they look, but I really don't use them as much as my other focal lengths. My 135mm Nikkor for large format is my most used large format lens though
@@MattIrwinPhotography I'm not keen to monotonous "modern" music particularly at the first part.... For first time I had to jump parts something I NEVER did in all your videos (from little bit before Z9) till now!... Maybe I'm a bit old fashion...
@kaijan2808 On the potentially dangerous assumption that you're referring to the 135 mm, back in the 1960s when I first got in to 35 mm photography (film was all we had, of course - and I hate people referring to it as analogue) a 135 mm lens was considered the standard for portraits. Nowadays I would most likely use 85 mm. I guess things change!
Hi Greg, lol. I mean it’s hard to take what you are saying seriously. If you choose to buy a premium 135mm, why did you think you wanted it? And why did that change. The price was the price. The 135 was 135. Not much can change here. Lol.

I love it here Moz. We need to take photographic trip here sometime.
Spectacular images! The lights, colors, people a street and cityscape photographer’s paradise. Thank you for sharing Matt and Chloe!
Thank you John. Chloe and I and the rest of the family are loving it. 😀
The most impressive city i've ever been.
I'm in love with this city.
I just love the images and video from these Nikon equipment look. The colors are just beautiful.
Wow! Absolutely fantastic Matt. Thank you so much for sharing. Can't wait to see more of your Japan footage.
Cheers Hank. Very inspiring place. Very photogenic. We head south soon. 😀
Great footage Matt, Tokyo nightscapes are right up your street. Beautifully done, thanks for uploading.
Yes for sure. Loving it. So many beautiful sites, so little time.
refreshing... great images, especially with the longer lens... my Zf arrived yesterday...instantly fell in love with it...
Awesome, Matt! Glad to see you arrived safe and sound and doing your thing in this amazing city!
Cheers Ray, we made it. And it’s amazing. 😀
Very nice, thanks! Inspiring and colourful images with matching music, Bravo 🎉

We are loving it so far Keith. 😀 My second time. Not my last hopefully.
Great work Matt, the use of colour in your photographs is stunning, thanks for sharing

Thanks Ted. Wonderful comment. I hope to get to MAP before we leave. A mix of adult and children adventures this trip. So we will see how we go. 😀
BEAUTIFUL work as always. Very inspiring.
Thank you
Great images of the city. The firefighter mosaic was my favorite. 👍👍

Hi Zoom. I will make a whole video about it once I return. I think it is a really good question. 😀 or even here if I get a spare hour or two. 😀

Thanks mate!!!!
Looking forward to seeing more footage using the Plena as a portrait lens.

Did you film more in the TeamLab Light Experience?
Beautiful
Can wait until I get to go with my ZF.
Thanks for all you do Matt! ❤
Hi Matt which lens would you deem more versatile the 135 plena or the 85 f1.2 i already own the 50f1.2 thanks
Exceptional.

Hi Scott thanks for your thoughts, is this review from personal experience?
Nice postcards.

Did you see a Z6iii while you were there Matt? - Its probably too soon after the zf
Sensory overload!

Thanks for the answer.
They should release additional quick notes for QA engineers like me :)
Ichiban, man!! You even found a beer keg 😂.

Costs too expensive. Hope that Viltrox will solve the problem.
What awful music in the intro. So much noise. Had to drop the volume real low.
Really disturbing music!...
?

Very honest, this is such a stupid focal length!!! Doesn’t fit anywhere…Too long for portraits, too short for animals/wildlife. Strange….
It’s very overhyped… I already returned mine.

Great images - Even the Nikomat that thinks its a Nikon F.
I bet you missed your scooter ? .. 🦘
They have them here. Just not sure about the whole family chasing me around. 😀 Lol.
