Now in its third generation, the Crosstrek has become a mainstay of the subcompact crossover segment. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek doubles down on what it does well, incorporating X-Mode, EyeSight, and of course, all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability. It's all packaged in a conveniently sized crossover. A larger 11.6-inch touchscreen also arrives for 2024, as do three new paint colors. We tested a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, Premium trim level outside Palm Springs, CA and in Joshua Tree National Park.

I love my 24’ Crosstrek Premium! Been having a lot of fun with it & I learned to drive in a 98’ forester but my grandparents had an 82 GL Wagon & the other one I’ve driven a lot was my dads 2011 Outback. The new Crosstrek is so much quieter than the 11’ outback in terms of road noise & engine noise as well as it handles better. (But I’ve heard that was a complaint w/the 2011 Outback anyways). I do a lot of hiking & camping & am excited that I don’t have to suffer w/an old Buick who’s transmission was going out anymore. 😆 All in all, it’s been a solid car so far!

The plastic cladding around the wheel-wells is a god-sent in the salt-belt of NE America. No more bubbling and rusting wheel-wells. The contrast of the black with the color (if you maintain it with some trim protector) really amps up the look of the car.
That larger screen look good, but I still prefer physical buttons/ Dials for the AC/CC I can feel my way around without taking my eyes off the road

Actually what might happen is it will Rust underneath it and you won't know it's rusting and then it will Rust Out bad I've seen a lot of cars with plastic cladding that when you actually if you took the cladding off its rusting underneath the cladding

The 2.0 feels just fine for people watching this. There is a lot of exaggeration going on about the 2.0 vs 2.5 unless you demand aggressive acceleration

Just my 2 cents, i wholeheartedly disagree the 2.0 is horribly underpowered to the point where they listened to the massive feedback from customers and put the larger engine in the car.

Fantastic video and description. Seriously you are putting sales people job at risk!
I totally agree with Steve's comment about not providing passenger side seats 8 way or even 6 way adjustable. At least Subaru should offer this an option across all trim lines.

The TV in the dash has to stop. Giant touch screens suck so bad. The interface is never designed well enough to substitute real buttons. Navigating menus on a touch screen while the vehicle is moving is a horrible experience. This trend needs to end.

I have a 2016 manual Crosstrek with a 1.5 inch lift kit and I love it. I am very interested in upgrading to the Wilderness edition when that comes out. The 2.0 liter engine is under powered in the '16 especially in summer when I'm running the AC. I'll go with the 2.5.

So I bought a 2024 Crosstreck premium and here are my thoughts. First of all, I tested the impressa RS with the crosstreck and found the 30 or so extra HP didn’t make much difference. My negatives are just with the entertainment Bluetooth that seems to drop here and there. Other than than that no complaints. Haven’t tried it in the winter yet, but solid car so far. Do a bit of Uber rides in it. I did add 400 dollar dimming lights rear view mirror with digital compass. Also a wireless phone charger that sucks big time. Got 500 under MSRP with some bargaining. Apparently a popular car in NY.

I absolutely love my 2023 Crosstrek Limited! For someone that was basically a Honda customer having purchased; a Prelude, 2 Civic Si’s for my daughters when they turned 18, an Accord (wife), 4 Odysseys and 5 CR-Vs, I am truly very pleased with my first Subaru! I find that the ride is comfortable, engine power is adequate and gas mileage is excellent! My wife is driving the CR-V 2022 Touring! I also find that the Crosstrek is quieter on acceleration and seems peppier than the 1.5 L turbo CR-V!

picked up a 2024 crosstrek base and maybe not mentioned in this video but you do get the split screens not the big 11 inch one in all their base models of crosstrek and impreza. Besides that, you get all the other bells and whistles so unless you want that big screen and more HP, the base is a great deal.

I have a 23 Limited. I love this car. I wouldn't want that larger screen. I drove Audi's for twenty years and this Crosstrek at less than half the price is twice the car the Audi's were, and it takes regular gas too! I had a WRX 2002. That was a fun car

I am a Subaru fan boy through and through. Started back in the day with a 98 forester. We now have our fourth and fifth Subarus in our driveway…an 18 crosstrek limited and a 22 forester limited. Our last suby we put 255,000km on it over 11 years. That was a 11 outback. Subaru has overcome the head gasket issues that plagued their engines for a long time. Even with that problem the engines run a long time. I really like the new crosstrek BUT in the higher trim models Subaru needs to put in an 8 way adjustable front passengers seat….other makers do and this is very short sighted on their part. Our CT came with only the 6 way drivers seat…glad to see they upped that to the 10 way. Our Forester has the 8 way passenger seat….

I owned and drove an '18 Premium for a few months. I've always liked the looks of the Crosstrek, and liked the look of mine, too, but driving it was slow torture. Nothing worked quite the way it should (the "touch" screen was more of a "beat on" screen to get a response). This one looks great, and I like the aero features (and ground clearance), but there are many equally-affordable choices out there that get substantially better fuel mileage, and that don't make drivers suffer with a CVT.

Is RTV still a problem for current Subaru models and has the CrossTrek suffered from this? Thx for this newbie question.

I owned a 1999 forester and a 2007 forester and loved both of them. I loved the automatic transmission specially when I lived up north and worked perfect in snow situation. I don’t know why Subaru decided to go with a CVT transmission. I wish and hope Subaru goes back to an automatic transmission. I test drove the new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and liked the way it looked and the way it felt on the road. The CVT felt weird because you don’t feel the transmission changing gears.

Fender-well cladding is fine - but not weirdly-shaped and oversized (in the wrong place) cladding. When Subaru tries to be stylish, it ends up looking silly. The only reason Subaru still uses the 2.0 liter engine is to encourage buyers to purchase a Sport or Limited; the production cost-difference between the two engines certainly must be minimal, along with the difference in mpg.

I wish the whole lineup was made in Japan, or at least I wish the higher trims were made in Japan. For such a large vehicle, the 2.5L really should be the standard engine and we really need a turbo option and a strong hybrid option. With the Crosstrek being Subaru's best selling car, I don't think these things are too much to ask for. Oh and for the love of God bring back physical climate controls Subaru.

I have a 2018 Crosstrek built in Gunma, Japan and had an Outback before it built at SIA. Ran the Outback to well past 200k before gifting it still running and my 2018 is trouble free at 72k (as it well should be). The drivetrains and many other components come in fully prebuilt, and the panel gaps and quality on my SIA car were just as good as my Gunma car is. I do understand that fuzzy feeling from a Made in Japan car, my other car (S2000) is too, but SIA does a great job, is ISO compliant etc.

For the controls that are static, should have had them physical, I could feel them without having to take my eyes off the road to look at a screen that I have difficultly seeing during a sunny day. Auto Start/Stop is garbage on subaru's, really on most cars. Its clunky, you might save 1mpg if you are lucky, that equates within a car that gets 30mpg..... would be cents. Pennies. Which you'll spend once you realize that car batteries that support start/stop are significantly more expensive, which means you save nothing. Maybe pennies again.

Again, no mention of the auto-seat controls, which leaves me to believe that the '24 model doesn't feature lumbar control either. Subaru designers seem to be unaware of the fact that this inexpensive item is a necessity probably for half or more of their potential customers. When will they stop shooting themselves in the foot and keep at bay a sizable segment of the interested Crosstrek buyers, including myself?

I'm gonna get the 2023 Limited in a month or two. Overall I love everything about the car, except Auto Stop/Start 🤮🤬.
I'm glad to learn it won't be worthwhile (for me) to wait for the 2024 - because of the hideous and obnoxious larger infotainment system 🤮, higher price, and decreased cargo capacity. I do like that for 2024 they did away with the stupid colored stitching on the dash, and the toned-down look of the upholstery looks so much better, as well keeping the overall good looks of the exterior 👍🏼

That's awesome. You're gonna be able to score a SWEET deal on a loaded 23. I like the 23 body better, but to be honest, it's the display and simplicity of the new infotainment that has actually got me waiting for the Wilderness 2024. You are in a WAY better buying position, though, so as a former car salesman, congrats!

  • @bonniel4325

It's a very nice car. I had to get the 2024, because they quit production on the 2023 in February or March of 2023. Subaru really messed up the AC controls. If I don't want to slam into a wall, I have to wait until the car is stopped to adjust the AC. You have to really stare at that thing to change your AC settings. The new smaller sound system knobs are nicer than those giant things on the 2023. There's plenty of space at the bottom of that screen to have placed a few analog AC dials. Plus that makes for safer driving. (Honda got that right on the HR-V.) They rushed production on the 2024 to increase profits, naturally. At least Subaru provides 90% better service at the dealership than Honda does. The Honda dealership in my town is a real hot mess. Subaru is kicking Honda's you know what in sales.
