Alonso's R25 Outing Shows Modern F1 is Missing the 'Wow' Factor

  • The most exciting part of the 2020 Abu Dhabi GP weekend had to be Fernando Alonso in his R25 taking to the track. It was Alonso's 2005 championship winning car and the last of the mighty V10 era that everybody loves so much. Alonso's R25 Abu Dhabi outing showed us a little bit of what modern F1 is missing with the current generation of cars. The sound, the nimble chassis, and less technology makes the R25 a head turner and everyone in the F1 paddock had their eyes peeled on Yas Marina circuit while Alonso gave it full beans. Hear what the drivers had to say about this car and what we can learn from the older generations to bring back the wow factor in F1.

      F'ing A Right! I think modern auto racing is lacking the WOW factor in general though, not just F1. Go back to Indycar 1995 and compare that to an Indycar of now. Formula 1 is going through the same thing. This gave me absolute chills, and brought me to tears of joy seeing my absolute racing hero back in his Championship Winning R25! Not to mention wringing it for everything it was worth. F1 Needs to be the leader in motorsport and ditch this ridiculous "green" electric/hybrid crap. The people don't want that. The fans don't want that. Our hero racing drivers are gladiators. Let's give them machines worthy of their talents! Bring back the NA V10's!

Maybe manufacturers would consider it if the fuel was cleaner. Something like ethanol for example. Clean, but yet loud and amazing. The sound and vibrations caused by the V 10 engine that you feel in every internal organ of your body, even when you are in the stands on a track, cannot be explained in words. They may not be as fast and maneuverable as today's F1 cars, but they certainly feel that way. Alonso's tour of Abu Dhabi looked and felt like a track record.

    • @Super-Godzilla99
      @Super-Godzilla99 2 роки тому +5

      they are actualy faster and more maneuverable than modern f1 cars. they are lighter and smaller. if he would perfect the setup on this car in these runs he would be much faster than the pole time.
      when you look at it you see he is just cruising around not even close to the limit of the car.
      it would be a big problem for f1 if he would have drove it on the limit with the perfect set up and beat the pole time easily.

    Been watching F1 since the early 80's. My favourite era BY FAR is the late 90's to early 2000's. Something about those engines.
    I remember standing in Adelaide then Melbourne CBDs and being amazed that I could hear them so clearly from so far away. At the track you didn't just hear them (ear plugs mandatory), you felt them - in your chest, like a rocket launch or after-burning jet taking off.

    I remember the early 90s: 3.5L V8, V10 and V12 engines. And I remember being at the Spa 24h where 4,5,6,8,10,12 cylinder engines were all on track. Every car sounded different, and that is great: variety. So, give me V12s or variety.

      I totally agree with this. Why don't they just set fuel regulations which dictate how much fuel should the engines consume. Engineering has come so far forward since the 90's heck ever 2010's.

    The V10 era was by far the best ever in F1 history. I got the chills everytime cause i was young but i still remember the sound and how you feel it in your whole body when it passes you. I absolutely don't care about the 1-2 seconds less they get today (don't get me wrong, 1-2 seconds is enormous in race times).

      @@ShivSai123456 It adds to artificial competition. Yes it used to be harder to overtake, but those overtakes that did occur were truly earned with courage and craft. Nothing fun about knowing the car honing in on the back of another is just going to sail by on the next straight. DRS should be used for quali and maybe in races all cars can use it once a lap anywhere on track, so that people can defend with it as well as attack.

      @@ShivSai123456 People forget that most of the passing didn't happen on track during the 00's, it happened in the pits when they were refueling.
      We all WANT to see more passing in F1, but that won't happened without help. And anytime they put in something to help with the passing people complain about it be artificial, so you can't win the argument.
      DRS is necessary because the cars have a hard time passing each other on track because of the aerodynamic backwash generated by the cars, hopefully all the changes to next years basic car design will make a big difference. Another trick they can try is push-to-pass, now that the cars are stuck in the same engine mode all race they can give the drives X number of minutes of 50 extra HP during the race that they can deploy how they see fit. That wouldn't be as bad as DRS because you can use it to defend as well, so it's more fair.

    I grew up watching F1 in the late 1980s, so naturally, I'm a huge Senna fan and always will be. The V10 F1 cars of between 2001 and 2006 I feel are the best F1 cars as an engine formula. For me undoubtedly, the best F1 car is history is the McLaren MP4-4, but the V10 sound is just mesmerizing and is what has defined F1 for a long time. If you heard that 19,000 rpm V10 engine scream, you instantly knew it's an F1 car.

    We need these engines back. The sound drew me in back in 1999. 1999 I went to my first ChampCar race when they ran high revs and 900hp. Not quite the sound of these F1 cars but the sound was amazing and you could feel the shift change in your chest! Watching this reminds of how great both cars sounded back then. We need the sound, revs, and bigger engines back in F1 and IndyCar.
