I think the reason season 1 luz had straight hair was cuz she would straighten it so she could fit with "society norms" a little better. In Thanks to Them we see a straightener in the trash indicating that both luz and camila would straighten their hair. p.s I absolutely love the redesigns
also i think luz’s hair was a little unrealistic because whenever her hair got wet or it was the end of the day, her hair didn’t go back to normal maybe it was a perm idk
If that was the case they should have also given Luz a pjs design with a tubi how they did Camila. A little detail that could have went a long way in showing a common way alot of latinas maintain their straightened hair.
Your points about her character design is definitely valid - it was a total missed opportunity to give her more POC features and less Eurocentric ones, but it's not really the creative team's fault. It was Disney that pushed for a more European look for Luz; in original concept art she's got curlier afro hair. They were only able to give her more realistic hair textures after the show was cancelled, so yes it sucks, but blame the company, not the creative team!
Ummm no offense do you have any proof its Disney’s fault? They showed textured hair in Encanto. And from what I seen they’re mostly good at POC representation but, are terrible with LBGTQ+ as Disney wants money and that wouldn’t fly with the homophobic countries. Since the last season I think giving Luz straight hair was intentional. She tried to fit in and probably straightened her hair. A hair straightener was shown in Camilla’s trash can
@@bean17magic also, Disney sucks for shortening the third season the only three episodes we could’ve gotten more episodes of Luz’s friends in the human world T-T
Fun fact about Luz and Camila. They both straightened their hair in the first to seasons because they were told that their hair was weird and messy. But in the last season, they stopped that to show they did not care what anyone said about their culture/natural hair texture/features. (Also, this is some what canon and some what a headcanon. I also love the redesign. it looks great!
I feel like that would only be the case for season 1, Luz wouldn't be able to keep straightening her hair in BI without illusion magic, but i like this idea :)
@LayziilyDestruktiv Yeah, you're right, but it was the case with Camila. In Thanks to Them, you can spot a hair straightner in her garbage can. So, mostly likely, Luz would have done the same in S1.
@@thisleostar You know I feel like them being forced to straighten their hair because other people said about their natural coils are messy can hit home for a lot of people. I was one of those kids that got their hair straightened first it was relaxer when I was 6 to 7 years old it was so uncomfortable it felt like my head was on fire and then when I was 8 I’ve gone to another hairdresser, and she just straighten hair with a hair straightener. Now I went natural in 2022 and gotten my straightened snipped off my mom and dad sometimes want me to get a silk press, but I want to get one when I want to not when someone else wants me too.
@sailorstar3148 1.Im so sorry that happened to you, but I'm glad you are doing what you want with your hair :). And 2, I've had friends who have gone through this, and it hurts me to know that, and I have been told I should straighten my hair. And they probably went to therapy for it to, since it can put people in a vary bad place.
She's not supposed to look like luz batista. She's inspired by them there is a difference, but luz with curly hair is superior.(I apologise if this comes of as angry or rude that is not my intention)
Luz and Camila both had really straight hair, and likely experienced bulling, in s3 she has curlier hair, She and Camila could have straightened her hair in earlier seasons.
I think her design is to fit how even someone as quirky and out of the gate as Luz is, she’s so normal in such a fantastical world. It makes her stand out a lot more as well.
I’m not going to lie, as someone with ADHD, your analysis of her outfit really bothers me. Like, sure, she might wear this, but as someone with a mom who is pretty similar to Camilla, at least in the “don’t rock the boat with your weirdness” kind of way, Luz’s S1 design felt like something I could relate to. Like, it was her trying to keep a little bit of her individuality and personal style in an outfit that her mom would also find “normal and acceptable”. Plus, at that point in the series, she wasn’t out to her mom as bi yet, so I don’t think she would have had that pin. So, yeah, that’s a big gripe I have with your analysis. But your redesign is… fine.
This!! I also had a huge problem with them saying that because she’s “weird” and has “adhd” that she would dress different. Also not to mention that was the outfit she wore to school, think about how dress coded she would be and how judged she would be.
I think her explanations and design choice shows that doesn’t understand what Afro-Latina is. Luz’s dad isn’t black and his mom is Latina. Luz is Dominican, as is both her parents so her ancestry is a unique blend of white, native and black dna. Not 50% Hispanic 50% black, like what?
@@hispanicrocket5159also her design for S3 Luz doesn’t fit S3 Luz Like this point Luz doesn’t care about herself so why the hell is she dying her hair and giving herself dreads
I hate to always start with: "as a black girl" But--for the sake of this, I'll say...as a black girl, I sometimes feel that their is a misconception when it comes to representing black characters in media. They don't always have to have kinky or curly hair, or wear protective styles, or have it natural, etc. In my experiences I deeply prefer my hair to be relaxed and straightened and it doesn't take away from my identity. Please don't get me wrong I love all different types of hair reps in media but I just wanted to through that out there because I've noticed that a lot of artist (who usually aren't black) tend to get annoyed when a character that is black has straight hair, lol. It's all about preference hah!
Honestly I can get behind Luz’s simple/basic character design for s1, because I think she’s at a point of her life where Camila is actively trying to get her to be less weird, thus potentially influencing what she wears/buys especially at school. It also just reeks of the… interesting fashion elements common to all of us at age 14. I was the weird kid and I dressed just like her, fucked up layers and all, due to the lack of availability of more unique and trendy fashions in my area as well as a lack of acceptance in my household - so her original design made me feel seen af. Your redesign is super cute though. Just maybe not one I could see her getting away with in an immigrant, unique-phobic household 😂
I somewhat agree on the clothing thing, but then again, her outfit was based on Azura which was just a cute detail. Plus, animating more complex clothing is harder than a simple character design. Also I really like her short hair style, especially because the reason she kept it that way was so sweet.
I think it's cool that you made the ends of Luz's hair purple for s2 because it makes it seem like amity dyed her hair purple in s2 to match Luz, I think it is super cute when I think of it like that too
I really love the designs I think they fit Luz really well! I do want to say some things in defense of her original character design though, firstly curly hair isn’t easy to animate and Luz and her mom were trying to fit in by straightening their hair, though I personally would’ve liked if her hair progressively got more curly as she embraced who she was more rather than only season three but that’s just me. Luz clothing again would take a lot to animate. Usually more detailed characters are in shows using rigged animation because they don’t have to worry about continuously redrawing the characters. Still on the topic of clothes Dana Terrace does draw more detailed and stylish clothes in her art. Finally in my opinion Disney sucks so for them as much representation as they did I’m surprised though I agree I wish there was more. I don’t know if they had planned to show more of her black culture but I do know when they were going to have a full season three they planned to have Luz’s quinceañera (I hope I spelled that correctly but I can’t spell anything). Anyhow this was just for information, I loved your designs and I don’t mean this in a mean way. Btw I’m the weird kid and I must say I have no fashion sense at all, at all. I’m trying
I like these designs a lot but I really loved Luz having short hair, it made me feel very seen as a more gnc girl and I felt it made her stand out in terms of girl protags in cartoons
I love the redesigns but for animation they need to have a very simple design. Yes I think her old designs are lacking especially in the first season and should’ve done better but still there a little complicated for animation. But there still very well made and I absolutely love them great job 👏
Omg I have so much to say about this. I absolutely love your designs for Luz! It really just feels more “Luz” than canon Luz, and I love the dramatic changes that happen between seasons. I’m seriously in love with all of the hairstyles omg they’re all so so good! I really like how you improved the representation, with the curly hair and the lighter palms! I have the exact same hair and nose as your season 1 Luz design and if I saw that as a kid I would feel so supported. It’s seriously so important to get representation right and as much as I love the owl house they didn’t do Luz as well as they could have. Anyway thank you for this and your art and design always blows me away!!♥️✨
I love how in your season three design you gave her a scar over her nose because it not only does what you said, but it also is a parallel to the scar that Lilith gave Belos on his nose. Which really ties well with Luz’s worries of being just like him in the finale
Why are ya giving them all long hair? I found Luz's short hair a defining feature - especially since she used a sword from a book series, that her dad introduced to her before his death, to cut it.
@@LaDaDaDeDaDaDa.. ngl I feel like giving her long hair I'm kind of bruins the last episode, because like with her hair the length it was It made me think of like bellows. like a lot and with long hair or with dreadlocks there's like no point in her even wearing the outfit cuz I'd never think of belos, I'd just be like what the hell is she wearing. But yeah I do adore her with longer hair and more diverse features
@@Goldie22 but it's significant to her character. She used a fake sword from a book her late dad gave her to cut her hair. It also symbolised the closeness between Luz and her mum as she took her to get her hair fixed instead of just shaving it off or punishing her. Also, she kept her hair short in the finale, meaning she regularly cuts it. Hairstyles are meant to derive from what the CHARACTER would like, not what someone wants to slap on.
No hate, at all, i love it, but uh- ok let me just get into it. Luz S1 outfit is amazing. I dislike this redesign for it- a lot. Here is why Luz s1 is trying to fit in with society norms and match what her mom expects of her, and to try and be less weird- she has to wear "basic" or "normal" clothes. Shes not supposed to look like she has a personality. Thats the whole point. Shes supposed to look basic- and boring, not weird or fun because thats what her mom would like. Thats also why over the seasons, her outfits got more personality. Starting with the grudgby jacket. Complete change in looks, just by one thing. And it looks beautiful. S3 shes become fully comfortable with herself and her own personality, thats why her s3 outfit looks a lot better. I dislike the whole idea of her hair being long. I understand wanting her to have more black hairstyles, like locs or braids- but shes supposed to have short hair. This is actually pretty important to her story, because it honors when hse became a "weirdo". Her dad influenced her so much with a book that she went to a convention and got a sword. She used that sword to cut her hair off- Its not only an important memory and tribute to her dad, but it also is just important to her alone. I also think that the bright colors dont suit luz. I do believe that she likes colors, but not at all that she would wear them that much. Also, I hate that you made her wear kidcore. I dont hate the style, but since luz is supposed to be a basically neurodivergent person, adding on the kidcore just seems a little- idk, disrespectful? because neuros are often referred to by people saying they act like children. And stereotyped to wear childish clothes, as if their brain was childish. Dunno, maybe its just me. But I just dislike this redesign from you. Could've been a lot better. Loved the amity one so much more.
YES THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS I also felt like this redesign was a bit of stereotyping neurodivergent peeps, but I did a really bad job articulating that, and you said it really well. Another thing that bothers me about Luz having long hair is that a lot of neurodivergent peeps (myself included) have sensory issues that can be really aggravated by long hair, so that’s another thing.
@@one-onessadhalf3393 yes absolutely! Sorry I didnt think of that last bit, as a neurodivergent person, I have extremely long hair. So I didnt really think to realize that other people dislike the feeling- even though a lot of my friends get irritated by their own hair,
Oh, you don’t have to apologize for that! My critique is mostly based off of my experience and my friends’ experiences. It’s totally cool not to experience that
yes bro exactly!!! also there’s the fact that luz can’t express herself in the human realm and didn’t have the best grasp as herself as a person. the person that they drew in the s1 redesign gave more of a confident and self expression type of vibe and someone who had a better grasp of who they were which wasn’t exactly luz in s1. it made her more relatable that luz didn’t have a set “aesthetic” or really cute and colorful clothes
I don’t know HOW you didn’t notice Anne only had one shoe the whole show until later on. It ALWAYS annoyed me. Like, the you’re in a swamp! THAT SOCK IS CONSTANTLY WET. That sounds more like hell to me than the boiling isles. ALSO the reason yellow looks so good with purple is because they’re compliments! Meaning they’re opposite one another on the color wheel! Complimentary colors are a really great way to make color palettes more interesting. Color theory in general is incredibly interesting. My favorite complimentary color combo is blue and orange. :)
Locs besides being easy to take care of,are also from the black culture so it brings more representation to the character and the series, I loved that you talked about it and showed it, I like how you pay attention to the details,I loved the video❤
I’m soooo glad you did a redesign for luz! I love how you gave her longer hair, I was a bit disappointed when they didn’t do it in the time skip, because when she was in titan form, I rly like the long hair and thought it rly suit her. Anyway this comment was longer than I thought it would be,😮💨 and idk if you read soo yeah. Love ur vid, love ur art style, byeeee ❤
The whole star thing you incorporated could actually be significant because Amity had a top student badge which is a *star.* Could be some good foreshadowing 😏

Oh my god! I love your redesigns and i think they’re absolutely amazing with your slight changes! Could you do Vee after Hunter? I feel like her in your artstyle would be so cute! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Yesss I love these character designs and I love that u gave Luz curly hair. Whenever I draw s1 and s2 Luz, i give her curly hair. I wish the series talked about her ethnic background more
you deserve more views on this video! these designs are wonderful, and i love all your thoughts behind each! honestly, i think they just didnt want to give her curly hair at first, but then added it in later bc enough people were talking about it. i find it kind of eh that some people believe the show implies luz would even straighten her hair for other people, when she has been shown pre-boiling isles to be very proud in showcasing her “weirdness”. if anything, luz would be more likely to straighten it for herself if she personally didnt like dealing with her curls (especially if she has the type that needs intense care), but if that was the case, it would be so much easier to have luz wearing twists or braids so she doesnt need to fuss with it all the time. my hair passion aside, thank you so much for sharing your art with us! edit: minor spelling error
Luz's original outfit is fine. It's clear that she is a tomboy. Her Azura costume is the only one with a pure feminine design. I love all of her outfits throughout the series, as she looks adorable in them. My favorites are the pirate look, her S2 pajama with a hint of Totoro design, and of course her Titan Witch form. Fun Fact: My cousin, Alonso Rameriz Ramos, who worked on storyboarding for "Gravity Falls," designed Luz's leggings and shorts for her main outfit.
I watched you're Amity redesign vid and at first, really liked it and and was hoping to see luz's and now that you mentioned that you'll probably do the others got me exited! so i'll subcribe! ^^
I love these redesigns sooo much!!! i like want to eat the color palletes of each one, they are so expressive and fun:] like how people said already, it would be awesome to see you redesign willow and Gus,(gus especially because his design is very lacking; especially in his hairstyle, he only got a a different one in the epilogue??!)
Please redesign Hunter next! Im not gonna lie, i don't have many problems with his design, but GOD it was SUCH a missed opportunity for them to go all out with the Grimwalker thing!
THANK YOU I do. not. like luz's design at all either, and these look so much better and lively! your art is so great, keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what other re designs you do!
disney did both luz and willow SO dirty . i love that you spoke about her ethnic features not being shown enough . im pretty sure dana tried very hard to push that for luz and willow but disney kept making them change their designs . i love what you did for luz !!!! so excited to see more ^^
I have a note or 2 in regards to criticism, as a neurodivergent POC myself and as someone who has a decent nack for character design/ colors Luz's 1st look isn't bad overall but isn't great as it stands here. I do like the idea of Luz being into colors but the outfit in question has way to many bright colors that it can be very distracting and really hard to look at, That and the hair pins with the really bright pins in her hair + the bag makes for a very busy design. Your design for season 2 really shows that well, the right amount of color that's not overwhelming but still keeps with the theme of Luz loving color. Also I have an issue with the child core look for Luz, Being that it's confirmed Luz is neurodivergent there's a stereotype of neurodivergent people acting childish/ wearing child like clothes do to there brain being different. I understand that's most likely not what you intended when picking the child core aesthetic but that can be a worrying implication/ thing to be mindful of. Overall I'm glad you were keeping People of color in mind when designing the charcters which alot of people don't do, mainly cause we live in a world where ethnic features are seen as weird, creepy, ugly, or not bothered with cause some artist don't want to put in the effort. There's also an issue with POC getting sidelined in the show for white characters which the show also did but that's a different issue for a different day. also as a small gripe/ misconception with writing angsty doesn't equal to maturity. That's more of a writing thing rather than character design thing. Thanks for listening
hey thx for the feedback!💖 w her s1 design, i wasn't trying to make her feel stereotypical or anything like that. i have adhd too and i just wanted her outfit to show off her fun personality. kidcore is just one name for that aesthetic but you can honestly call it whatever u want, fashion trends and aesthetics can have multiple names. i think everyone can dress however they want regardless of age and not be judged for it.
@@bean17magic Hello a person of color here I love your Luz redesign really but there’s a reason why both Luz and Camila had straight hair in the first two seasons in one of the scenes in Camila’s room there’s a hair straightener in the garbage can. So I believe that they were forced into straightening their hair, because people told them that their natural coils, arm, messy, and unkempt, but now they wear their natural curly/coily hair now. I feel like that hits home so much for me because I was one of those kids that had their hair straightened for a long time until last year I started to wear my hair and twist but sometimes my mom and dad want me to straighten my hair but I’ll get it straightened when I want to not when someone else wants me too.
@@bean17magic I feel like that them, implying that they are forced to the straighten there hair, because how other people think that their hair is messy and unprofessional really sheds light on the issue that I feel like a lot of people can relate to that.
I see what you mean. People can be contradictory though, so someone can have adhd and really love harajuku fashion and similar things that are quite youthful, I do see what you mean about the stereotype though, but I personally really love it, I think that style has her energy, since she’s quite bubbly imo
Yes! I also read somewhere that in Portuguese, Luz is light and Noceda(I'm pretty sure) translates to night so night light and Luz learnt her first glyph(light) in the night!!
As someone who thinks luz has one of the best designs in western cartoons the first minute jumpscared me so hard Luz has one of the best designs in the show the fact that she's weird doesn't mean she has to dress different it's stereotypical and luz design has some essence into her design that ties to her character mainly the round design that compliment her kindness and sunshine behavior that changes throughout the series we can see something like this with other characters like amity with sharp and smart design. The problem I have with the redesign that it's a great art but it's not luz it's like it sucked all of luz's personality and leaved the entire different character and also it doesn't fit in the shows art style but it's not important I know it's a redesign and not a fanart but if someone show me the arts and say it's the art of a character that you watched I would have a hard time stretching my head figuring out who it is but I can tell a fanart of her from a mile away. But I'm not discarding anyone's opinion I'm just saying cause Luz can catch a break that her design isn't weird enough for a neurodivergent.
Your redesigns are so cool!! the season 3 one gives me the idea that in the later part of the season maybe she'd wear her locs in a ponytail on top of that imagine the design potential for titan luz's hair
The thing is guys i TOTALLY get the S1 luz noceda design slander bc I LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THAT 😭😭 ive had that haircut and wear those exact types of clothes and have done so for like. Years. It DOES look awful lol
Luz's design really bothered me too. I am black (technically 1/4 puertorican but according to my relatives I "don't count") and i was kinda upset that luz's hair wasn't cutrly but then during season 3 when i saw her hair curly i was baffled. How in the world did it not turn back? All she needed to do was get her hair wet but somehow she didn't and nothing happened!
Im afro latina and I had straight hair all through middle school cuz my mom had me go through a straightener treatment. (I didn't know it was permanent, I was so sad lol) My coils only really came back in highschool after they grew back out. So I imagine Luz and her mom did the same thing to their hair in order to, like another commenter mentioned, just seem more in line with the norms. Anyway, definitely possible. Added Context / IRL Worldbuilding for anyone curious lol: It's not uncommon for Latinas, even those with barely wavy hair, to go completely straight whether for job reasons or just aesthetic. Where I'm from straight hair is very prized (I'm from Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, but I'm pretty much talking about DR in this case). One of our slang for beautiful people is "rubia" or blondie. You can be called that regardless of your actual features, you just have to fall somewhere in line with the beauty expectations of straight hair, lighter skin, clearer eyes. It's very colorist yes, but it's something just very ingrained in the every day that I experienced while living in DR (I moved back to PR later, and then stayed in America) . I mention this because first, Luz and Camila are Dominican, and second, it's very similar to what Black American women face here in the workplace. The only difference I find is that the afro-bearing community (what even is a blanket term for us lol?-) in America is a lot more comfortable with going against norms and trying to reclaim the right to just wear their hair as it is, whereas those in Latin America aren't. I think this is in part due to Black people just being fed up, but also America is at it's core, is designed to be a country that allows for personal freedom (even if it fails in _so many aspects..._ ). I don't see this a lot in Hispanic communities that remain in Latin America and I'm not exactly sure why, I definitely wanna research more about it because I know it's a very sociocultural thing, but for now it just remains that that's how things are. "It is what it is." Since the Noceda family as a whole is supposed to be representative of Hispanic families in America. I feel like the change makes a lot of sense (even if it was a partial fault of Disney's censoring in the beginning lol). A lot of afro-latina women and girls who come here, only really stopped straightening their hair BECAUSE of the space Black American created where they are now free to do so. With that context in mind, and how the final season is supposed to be Luz coming into her own. I really think it was a beautiful addition to still go through with making their hair curly again.
I did dye my hair more back in middle school with just streaks first then soon I went to ends and then to my entire head and it was cool, I still am today lol.
For future refrence I think you’re using the word biracial in the wrong context here. Luz was never indicated to be anything other than dominican. With that in mind I adore giving her locs in the 3rd design.
I love your design ❤. But another thing is some people have a theory that Camilla experienced a form of discrimination she didn't luz to experience that so she straightened luzs hair. But I like the idea you going for ❤
I don’t think that one of her dads being black is supposed to make her blasian, given that it’s two dads and they presumably have the same reproductive process as humans
@@one-onessadhalf3393 culturally blasian but racially probably just Asian. Also people who appear very certain one race can be mixed people just want others to fit into the idea of “what being mixed is” and it’s messed up honestly.
These designs are really really good, but I wanted to mention something about the section you were talking about her being afro-latina at 18:01, I'm not sure if it was just a phrasing issue, but I would like to note that the reason she is afro-latina isn't because she is half black and half latina so much as it is that her mom, Camila (and possibly also her dad, but we aren't really sure where he's from i don't think) is Dominican, and in her case is likely meant to be afro-latino. It's a little hard to explain, so i think the easiest way i can explain it is how when you see a lot of people that you would visually recognise as latino, they are likely mostly indiginous when you get into the genetics, but there is a mix of different things going on. So, for some afro-latino people (not all, only the case im specifically talking about) they aren't mixed in the sense of one parent or grandparent is of this race and one is of another so much as it is a mix where the person is either mixed from something deep in their ancestry or afro-latino because their ancestor's have been in a south or central american country for so long that they are latino and also black. I for example am mixed white and latino (colombia specifically), but not because I am a white latino, but because I am half indigeneous latino on my dads side and half white on my moms side, but she isn't latino, just white in the way a lot of white americans are (just vaguely european), but for luz, she is at the very least afro-latino on her mom's side and mixed latino on her dad's side or afro-latino on both sides rather than specifically being half latino and half black. (Mixed latino meaning the way a lot of latino people are a mix of white, african, and indigenous descent rather than one discernable race, but often, not always, most prominently indigeneous if you look into the genetics) This is really hard to explain in actual words so I don't know if that made sense, but I felt it was just an imprtant thing to note because there is a lot of nuance when it comes to how race and ethnicity exactly works with a lot of latino people and it's pretty complicated with the way two people can be afro-latino or indigeneous-latino or white-latino in completely different ways. Also, I'm not afro-latino, like I mentioned earlier. In fact, I honestly have been told i look more east-asian than latino, or like I'm east-asian and white rather than indigeneous-latino and white. So if someone who is afro-latino (especially the way I was talking about how camila and by extension luz is) has a way to better explain it, I would appreciate that person adding on to this as a reply. edit even though I just wrote this: the specific thing I was talking about that I wanted to clarify on that made me write this was when she said luz was bi-racial when that isn't exactly it, thats what I was trying to explain earlier and thats the thing I was talking about that I wasn't sure if it was a phrasing issue or actually a misundertanding of luz's race.
tysm for informing me! i def should've just said mixed in the vid, my bad! i knew both luz's parents were Dominican, but i don't think the show rly goes into the specifics that luz descends from besides afro-latina, so i kinda made an assumption which, again, my bad. anyways, i get what you mean and i'll keep that in mind in the future
I kinda dislike the fact you removed her jacket from eda I felt it was a very like a very sweet thing for her to have that from eda, also Luz likes her short hair that’s more of a personal thing but I just dislike how people always make short haired characters have longer hair not every feminine character needs to have long hair :/
I mainly blame disney for luz's design she look more like a weirdo everyone's beta design had personality but disney hates characters having personality a example is a deleted frozen 2 song get this right which had so much personality compared to lost in the woods so disney hates personality for characters

IM GLAD YOU GAVE HER MORE CURLY HAIR CAUSE SHES SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE LUZ BATISTA WHO HAS CURLY HAIR AND IS ALSO AFRO-LATINA!
@@The.Good.Witch.Luz42I believe there's a scene where we can see a straightener in the trash, but I'm not 100% on that
@@angeltheaxo There is, It's in thanks to them. :D
@@The.Good.Witch.Luz42 thank you!
I think her design is to fit how even someone as quirky and out of the gate as Luz is, she’s so normal in such a fantastical world. It makes her stand out a lot more as well.
the colours! the details! I’m in love!! I also love how s1 luz and s1 amity are opposites
yess fr i love ships w opposite personalities and appearances🥰🥰
Yep with the leggings! When i was younger, my mum wouldn't let me wear shorts without them
@@hispanicrocket5159 “his”? Lol, Also the creator/member of the crew confirmed it. You can look it up, it’s literally on the wiki.
@@hispanicrocket5159also her design for S3 Luz doesn’t fit S3 Luz
Like this point Luz doesn’t care about herself so why the hell is she dying her hair and giving herself dreads
It's all about preference hah!
ye
SHE LOOKS AMAZING i love how visually represented her arc is through these designs - you did an amazing job !!!
I somewhat agree on the clothing thing, but then again, her outfit was based on Azura which was just a cute detail. Plus, animating more complex clothing is harder than a simple character design. Also I really like her short hair style, especially because the reason she kept it that way was so sweet.
I love your artstyle so much!
thank u!
@@bean17magic you gave luz justice CLAPS sad the production treated her nothing like a bi rep instead also embracing her afro latina mix
I think it's cool that you made the ends of Luz's hair purple for s2 because it makes it seem like amity dyed her hair purple in s2 to match Luz, I think it is super cute when I think of it like that too
I rlly love the redesign! It’s nice that you appreciate the amount of care you have to do for your curly hair coming from a person with curly hair.
Anyway thank you for this and your art and design always blows me away!!♥️✨
aww thank you so much!!🥰🥰😭💖💖💖
I love how in your season three design you gave her a scar over her nose because it not only does what you said, but it also is a parallel to the scar that Lilith gave Belos on his nose. Which really ties well with Luz’s worries of being just like him in the finale
Why are ya giving them all long hair? I found Luz's short hair a defining feature - especially since she used a sword from a book series, that her dad introduced to her before his death, to cut it.
That annoyed the hell out of me too ngl
@@Goldie22 yeah I like the curls, just wish she kept the hair short.
@@LaDaDaDeDaDaDa.. I'm agreeing with you 😭 why are you trying to correct me 😭
I LOVE YOUR ART STYLE !! Awesome redesigns !
No hate, at all, i love it, but uh- ok let me just get into it.
Luz S1 outfit is amazing. I dislike this redesign for it- a lot. Here is why
Luz s1 is trying to fit in with society norms and match what her mom expects of her, and to try and be less weird- she has to wear "basic" or "normal" clothes.
It’s totally cool not to experience that
@@one-onessadhalf3393 thank you !
yes bro exactly!!! also there’s the fact that luz can’t express herself in the human realm and didn’t have the best grasp as herself as a person. the person that they drew in the s1 redesign gave more of a confident and self expression type of vibe and someone who had a better grasp of who they were which wasn’t exactly luz in s1. it made her more relatable that luz didn’t have a set “aesthetic” or really cute and colorful clothes

Omg luz with curly hair looks AMAZING

You have such an adorable and pretty artstyle! I love it sm 💗💗
ive been waiting for this one!! it looks amazing !!!
I have a note or 2 in regards to criticism, as a neurodivergent POC myself and as someone who has a decent nack for character design/ colors
Luz's 1st look isn't bad overall but isn't great as it stands here. I do like the idea of Luz being into colors but the outfit in question has way to many bright colors that it can be very distracting
and really hard to look at, That and the hair pins with the really bright pins in her hair + the bag makes for a very busy design.
Overall I'm glad you were keeping People of color in mind when designing the charcters which alot of people don't do, mainly cause we live in a world where ethnic features
are seen as weird, creepy, ugly, or not bothered with cause some artist don't want to put in the effort. There's also an issue with POC getting sidelined in the show for white characters which the show also did but that's a different issue for a different day.
also as a small gripe/ misconception with writing angsty doesn't equal to maturity. That's more of a writing thing rather than character design thing. Thanks for listening
As another neurodivergent person, I completely agree with your critiques regarding Luz's neurodivergence.
hey thx for the feedback!💖 w her s1 design, i wasn't trying to make her feel stereotypical or anything like that. i have adhd too and i just wanted her outfit to show off her fun personality. kidcore is just one name for that aesthetic but you can honestly call it whatever u want, fashion trends and aesthetics can have multiple names. i think everyone can dress however they want regardless of age and not be judged for it.
4:13 fun fact! Luz speaks Spanish and in Spanish Luz means light
Yes! I also read somewhere that in Portuguese, Luz is light and Noceda(I'm pretty sure) translates to night so night light and Luz learnt her first glyph(light) in the night!!
I love in season 1 Luz u gave her bi earrings and pin but she didn’t come out yet
the luz outfit roasts at the statt were B R U T AL
I LOVE the redesigns I really wish the show gave her locks at some point in the show bc I know she would slay that look tbh
As someone who thinks luz has one of the best designs in western cartoons the first minute jumpscared me so hard
Luz has one of the best designs in the show the fact that she's weird doesn't mean she has to dress different it's stereotypical and luz design has some essence into her design that ties to her character mainly the round design that compliment her kindness and sunshine behavior that changes throughout the series we can see something like this with other characters like amity with sharp and smart design.
The problem I have with the redesign that it's a great art but it's not luz it's like it sucked all of luz's personality and leaved the entire different character and also it doesn't fit in the shows art style but it's not important
I know it's a redesign and not a fanart but if someone show me the arts and say it's the art of a character that you watched I would have a hard time stretching my head figuring out who it is but I can tell a fanart of her from a mile away.
But I'm not discarding anyone's opinion I'm just saying cause Luz can catch a break that her design isn't weird enough for a neurodivergent.
LUZ WITH THE LOCS HELLO???? (love it)
YAYAYAY LUZ NOCEDA REDSIGNING!!!!
Your redesigns are so cool!! the season 3 one gives me the idea that in the later part of the season maybe she'd wear her locs in a ponytail
on top of that imagine the design potential for titan luz's hair
Added Context / IRL Worldbuilding for anyone curious lol:
It's not uncommon for Latinas, even those with barely wavy hair, to go completely straight whether for job reasons or just aesthetic.
"It is what it is."
Since the Noceda family as a whole is supposed to be representative of Hispanic families in America.
Thank you for explaining. I do not know the perspective of Luz's family but this helped explain it.
the fact that you said that her style in the second drawing is more sporty but you gave her jeans is so freaking funny LMAO
I did dye my hair more back in middle school with just streaks first then soon I went to ends and then to my entire head and it was cool, I still am today lol.

Actually luzs outfit matches azura's outfit colors in the exact order
For future refrence I think you’re using the word biracial in the wrong context here. Luz was never indicated to be anything other than dominican. With that in mind I adore giving her locs in the 3rd design.

(Mixed latino meaning the way a lot of latino people are a mix of white, african, and indigenous descent rather than one discernable race, but often, not always, most prominently indigeneous if you look into the genetics)
This is really hard to explain in actual words so I don't know if that made sense, but I felt it was just an imprtant thing to note because there is a lot of nuance when it comes to how race and ethnicity exactly works with a lot of latino people and it's pretty complicated with the way two people can be afro-latino or indigeneous-latino or white-latino in completely different ways.
@@bean17magic It's no problem at all! Also, thanks for replying. I tend to ramble a lot when I explain things so I'm glad that actually made sense!
CAN.I.DRAW.YOUR.REDESIGN-LUMITY!?!
yeah ofc
@@bean17magic thank you!!!!!!!
Cool designs =D
I kinda dislike the fact you removed her jacket from eda I felt it was a very like a very sweet thing for her to have that from eda, also Luz likes her short hair that’s more of a personal thing but I just dislike how people always make short haired characters have longer hair not every feminine character needs to have long hair :/
❤👍🙂 keep it up don't give up
Omg the backgrounds from the 3 seasons makes the bi flag!!
You should make fanart of your redesigns together
Love it
As a Dominican American this video makes me so happy, they did my girl dirty
i'm glad u enjoyed!!🥰💖
@@bean17magic Hey, Dominican isn't exactly biracial, it's multi-racial
Can I remake this in the toh style by using Luz as a base, I just want to see how it would look? (Ofc not as a joke like my one video lol)
yeah sure
@@bean17magic Thanks.
The first time I dyed my hair I went the full head and was an Auburn-y color
I mainly blame disney for luz's design she look more like a weirdo everyone's beta design had personality but disney hates characters having personality a example is a deleted frozen 2 song get this right which had so much personality compared to lost in the woods so disney hates personality for characters
