Aizawa is literally Horikoshi's self insert. He took the things he thinks are the worst traits of himself and put them into Aizawa. Decently closely including appearance, even! Aizawa's an extremely loved and vital-to-the-story character with a cool as hell very OP when used well power. No one says Aizawa is cringe. Why?
One thing I hear a lot is that he is super relatable. Also, I think that he’s good in terms of power scaling. He has a very good quirk for sure, but it’s not so broken that he comes across as a self insert Mary sue.
No one complains because Aizawa did the opposite of most characters that are self inserts, he STARTED cringe and then uncringed simply by making his cringe cool. He's one of the coolest cringe characters that could exist. That's why people love him
No one calls Aizawa cringe because he's the authors character in the same authors story. He made everything about the world on his own. He belongs to that story, not the story and some other artist.
I'm sorry but I've never read fan fiction with self insert OCs that didn't kill me inside. people say "don't kill the cringe, kill the part of you that cringes" but that part is a natural part of me, it helps me not make an absolutely un-self aware embarrassment of myself.
Most people don’t even connect that self inserts and sonas are the same thing. Most think self inserts are childish and poorly written, while sonas are cool and something you are encouraged to make in art challenges. It never crosses their mind that they are the exact same thing.
Haha true! I have four fursonas three of them people probably have no issues with a fluftrodon named Sky, a Drekkubus named Alex (which I eventually took as my name when I came out of the closet as nonbinary) and a species I made up called the Specxiems the sona is called Valxarmorph (I let my big brother name them.) But then there is Wolf.... Wolf embodies my love for nature as a forest spirit aaaaaand uses a set of neopronouns (xie/xir/xirself). Wolf was created when I was very unsure about my gender and the pronouns I like to be called, call this an exploration of sorts. If I felt comfortable with a cat deer hybrid thing that uses xie/xir pronouns reperesenting me then I must be comfortable with people using those pronouns to refer to me with. Because all of my sonas aren't perfect reperesentations of me but parts of me instead, Alex is my asexuality and my nonbinary identity but also reperesent my curiousity, Sky reperesents my creativity and my kindness, Valxarmorph my first ever weird creature I drew. they reperesent my strangeness and love for my family and then there is Wolf my strangeness amplified they represent everything that people might hate me for or not understand xie is what people might not understand about me and that is alright. There was also Echium Quince but I grew out of that one as he represented more what people want me to be, he was a more "normal" cat who transitioned with me from the Rose I once created.
This so real for the most part, my self insert ocs and sonas are one in the same for almost everything but splatoon. More people should feel comfy being crimge
regardless if the art is “bad” or “cringe”, i honestly hate when people hate on people having fun. like, i understand when things are ACTUALLY problematic (like drawing CP or promoting SH behaviors), but if it isn’t harming anyone, why do people care so much? why is it “cringe” to just have fun? it may not be “cool” or “good” but who cares. if it doesn’t affect you, live and let live! especially with furries and OCs, as long as they aren’t harming anyone or promoting harmful behaviors, then it’s really not a big deal.
This! If you think about it, most canon anime characters are mary sue/gary stues, esp. if you try testing them. Its just they are written well enough to seem normal in their world. If you tried rewriting their dialogue, it hits different.
Another term for concepts, plot points, or characters like Deku is _Deus Ex Machina,_ meaning God of the Machine. Essentially it’s when a writer creates something so powerful that the only way the main character can win is by the powers of a literal god- or in this case, seven quirks. It’s ridiculous lol
I feel like we should encourage cringe when it comes to self inserts in harem animes. They're ruining the making of quality animes because industries wanna nake a quick brainrot money gain
I created my first OC while I was in elementary school. As I recall he was a perpetually upset chain smoking failed writer. When I took the drawing to school ,the first question I received was "is that a boy or a girl" this became a theme throughout my life.
My first OC was a pug humanoid wearing a diaper thats a super hero Edit: to add more to this they became a humanoid when they were trying to pee on a fire hydrant but then got struck by lightning and had acid poured on them, the villain they fight is a cyborg monkey
Hell yeah. I love when people embrace their “cringe” interests. Btw cringe as a concept doesn’t actually exist, and to anyone reading this, embracing your more cringy interests (both online and irl) will genuinely make you a happier person.
I think the line reaches the point where your audience genuinely is uncomfortable reading the characters stories, like if they do honestly terrible things or show traits of the creator that honestly are concerning. I think that's my line.
The exception being a character you aren’t supposed to like, such as a terrible parent or manipulative partner, which could be inspired by the creator’s experiences with other people.
@@vaishnavibanda6333 Exactly! The best example I can think of off the top of my head is Ackerbang (I think?) her OC is the mother of Endeavor from MHA. So she’s supposed to be unlikable and it works out well!
Lol same. I have one based on my distrust and bitterness stemming from domestic violence, One based on my tendency of getting possessive due to fear of abandonment, one based on my social anxiety stemming from fear of judgement and one based on my suicidal thoughts stemming from regret.
I am a fully grown woman and I will always advocate for and love any and all self inserts. They're such a fun, self indulgent method of self care and self love. It's an expression of love, both for the media we consume and for us as a person. I went through a good part of my 20s ashamed of them, because I was publicly shamed for them by a person I considered close, and man, did that ever impact me badly. I closed myself off from one of the best and healthiest creative outlets I had. The moment I got over this shame by drunkenly making a self-insert Tumblr blog I flourished, and so many people came to support me there too, loving my self inserts as much as I do. I also feel like a lot of OCs are, in a way, a mirror of the author, exploring parts of them through characters they make. It's also funny, because I have noticed a pattern where the same people who shit on self insert OCs will often consume so much reader-insert fics. Like girlie, self inserts and reader inserts are twins, siblings formed in the same cringe blaze, they are inseparable. And in the end, some of the most renowned pieces of literature, like Dante's Inferno, are self insert fanfics in the end
@@DarkAnims It's where a story/fanfic is written from the perspective of the reader. Essentially it's the reader inserted in the world that you are reading about.
I absolutely agree! I feel like cringe culture is taking away people's ability to just have fun and create something crazy. Like, every OC you make has to be realistic and flawed. They don't. Sometimes, we just need a break from the real world, and self-inserts can be a great way to simply escape, go on adventures and have fun. If you want to make a 'cringy' OC with a tragic backstory and too many powers for their own good - go ahead. Don't let anyone stop you if it genuinely makes you happy. :) Also - thank you for making this video. I really appreciate this because I (and many other artists) do this too. I feel like people should be able to talk about their OCs because it can be really fun to do so!
im glad someone has said this!! as a bit of an artist myself, i tend to use my creativity to be able to express myself and distract myself from reality. it genuinely helps me cope and give me comfort
I just think they shouldn't be putting it on the internet because it is going to be criticized, and you kinda have to be prepared for that😅 but if you are prepared to be criticized and stand your ground then do what you want 🤷♀️
I *love* self indulgent characters. I often make super edgy characters because those are my personal favorites to make, and they're fun. As I and many other people have said, don't let others tell you how to make art. Art is self expression and should be enjoyable. If the character makes you happy, by all means, make them! And I really enjoyed hearing about your oc, I hope you share more with us in the future :)
self indulgent media in general is just amazing. the locked tomb book series is one of my favourite examples of completely self indulgent writing. the passion for the stories and the characters is tangible, some of the plot is there for pure fun and i love seeing someone just do that you know?? nothing beats a piece of media that you just know someone created out of pure love of the concept (or even someone elses content, in the case of self inserts). humans just have passion for things?? and can express it in such fun and cool ways?? so why restrict them because it's cringe???
I LOVE when people make OC’s and self inserts! I can’t imagine hating on someone for doing something harmless that makes them happy? But anyway, your art is so amazing! I love the colors you use
I don't get why ocs/self-inserts gets hate and such when there's a lot of fanfics where the canon protagonist gets "mary-sued" and no one bats a eye, even daring to call it "better written than canon".
I feel like we were all scared from the days of “this is a cringe deviant art post!” Where grown men would bully small children for making cute oc’s online. We were all taught that a character that stands out and has a fun funky design, or one that is just wish fulfillment is bad. But here’s their fun thing that no one tells you… It doesn’t fucking matter! Your oc isn’t hurting anyone at all! It makes you happy and it’s practice in making a character that you like. It can even be helpful to you in a lot of ways, mentally, emotionally, and artistically. It’s so fun to think about what YOU would be like in a universe! It can also help you when creating other characters and universes. For example, if you are creating a witch character who has to navigate their new magic, and you already have experience putting yourself in a characters shoes to write them, writing this character might be just that much easier! So stop being afraid to write self insert characters who interact directly with the main plot or characters Who cares? You aren’t effecting the main plot! And even if someone claims their events are cannon, if you don’t like it, scroll? It’s not hard. It doesn’t effect you, and your comment isn’t going to make much or a difference in how they feel anyways. Have fun with your art and stop listing to the younger you who is scared to make something fun, colorful, and even a bit cringe. Those old men bullying art can’t get you out here
The era of 'Deviantart cringe' in the art commentary community really did a number on me and many others. Being so afraid of having your character being called a mary sue and following a million arbitrary rules kills creativity. It took me so long to realize that being a little cringy is necessary in order to grow, rather than being paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake. Or in the CC's case, having your art being taken to another site to be bullied. It really doesn't matter!
@@konata4567 one way of thinking has massively helped me in numerous ways and I think it can be adapted: "Nobody has to like me." You don't have to be loveable for everyone, and in the same way nobody has to like everything you do. People can dislike it and that's just fine. Go out and make characters that are annoying, make the most mary sue of all mary sues and break any and all rules! And as soon as you are able to let go of trying to make a likeable, loveable perfect uncringey character you can just do whatever you want to. People will hate it, but their opinion on YOUR harm free creative reality escape is incredibly unvalid lmao go and have fun!
Yeah, it isn't really an insert but I do have an OC that's Mary Suey and made with a ship. From Demon Slayer especifically. Always thought it was a shame that the strongest demon in Muzan's arcenal was kind of a footnote. Yeah it took three Pillars to match him, and he only lost because he had a self realization, but plot wise... he's kinda forgotten. The only connection the people that defeated him had with him was Muichirou being his descendant, and in the same fight they stabilish that it's too diluted for either of them to afford to care. Yoiirichi's successor doesn't even meet him, or Muzan's lifelong goal of an oni in Nezuko, so... OC for that! It's a fanfic so anything goes, tie it back with my headcanon that Rengoku Shinjurō got depressed because he survived a Upper Moon as the strongest pillar and realized the sheer difference in power. OC with super eyes fascinated by the art of Breathing, gets adopted by Shinjurō with a goal of learning Flame Breathing, watches their fight and has a mixture of disgust and awe at Moon Breathing and sets out to restore it into a breathing form. To catch up with the Blood Demon Art by doing something crazy like, uh. Enmu canonized a physical mind scape, Rengoku's was burning and Tanjiro's was a ocean with a blue sky, so breathing got something to do with it, so harness that. Make the breathing illusions harmful to demons, first like a numbness thing then train for physical damage. Now they're also an allegory to Yoiirichi's as not his successor but his Second Coming, refuse the mark because there's already the illusions and that would accentuate the connection. Final fight, OC with the pillars against Kokushibo, obviously going to win, they get separate and now it's a 1v1 mirror match. But he has infinite stamina, it doesn't matter if you cut off the sword in a spiritual level because it grows from the bottom, and he's stronger. OC passes out into a Tanjiro Flashback. Yoiirichi is there, OC refuses the mark, he wasn't going to offer it to them, but asks why they accept charity from his brother instead. Now, the OC moves on from their obsession with Kokushibo, mirroring how he's obsessed with Yoiirichi to this day, and how now emotionally surpassed him, and they get back up while forming their own breathing form with pieces from all the forms of people they met in the past. Sun Breathing branched off, theirs gained everything that was improved. Wins, Kokushibo gets his spiritual neck cut off, and before Muzan can use one of his curse hands from Kokushibo's body to turn OC into a demon, Kokushibo willingly dies, just like he condemned Akaza for, and the hand turns to ash before it can sully their duel. With added crippling of OC because they defeated Upper One by themselves without a demon slayer mark, and Genya shipping because he survives with Kokushibo pulled away. Is it cringe? Severely. Yoiirichi's second coming, defeats Kokushibo by themselves, learns multiple breathing styles, makes their own on the brink of death, semi-main character shipping, adopted by a a canon character, bingo! But I think it's fun and adds to Kokushibo rejecting what Muzan did to him, all branched from my Kokushibo hype not being met and wanting Genya to live. Um, can you tell that I thinked about Rengoku Kouki a lot? *Points to surface of iceberg*
@@NameIsNeb oh boy, you put a lot of thought into this! I firmly believe that if it keeps your mind happily occupied and you're enjoying yourself without any harm to anyone you're good. Cringe isn't real! Your OC and the story is very thought out and I'm happy you got to fill a plothole that was bothering you keep having fun!
Don't kill the part of you that is cringe, instead kill the part of you that cringes! Make as many mary-sue over-powered awesome cool beautiful self-insert OCs as you want, it's fun to go ham and not care what other people think. Obviously if you want to make an actual story, then yeah you'll need well-developed, diverse characters, but sometimes doing stuff for fun is...fun. Don't let anybody dictate how you make your art -- HAVE FUN!!
I usually leave the overpowered Oc's to personal crossovers I make with some friends, but it's always fun to see how badly we can fuck up the world in certain crossovers and sometimes how badly we fucked over ourselves by making the BBEG overpowered by mistake (usually giving it to one Group/Tribe/Race and later going: "oh god, wait- BBEG is part of that group/tribe/race." then trying to figure out how to overcome that, sometimes its a normal BBEG fails, sometimes the BBEG wins and sometimes some characters die fighting the BBEG- and sometimes one of the villain's die a hero in the public's eye, while the heroes are seen as villains.
I was always shot down by my friends when I made OCs when I was around 13. When I went to college in 16, I refrained myself from OCs. Because most of them reflected parts of myself. I explored my trauma in a healthy way through this. I'd place my self insert OCs into senarios with characters that I just enjoyed because I wanted friends who loved me. I missed my older siblings who abandoned me and so I wrote self insert OCs that were siblings with the main characer because I wanted my older siblings back. I struggled with my mental health, and refrained from making self insert OCs for years, until I went to college, and made good friends. But my recovery from poor mental health and responsibility that came from my older siblings leaving had shocked me into be much more mature than my peers. So I took the maternal friend role. Quite literally. I was group therapist, I helped them book doctors appointments, I even took them there myself sometimes. With this new role, and this love I had for my friends, my brain decided that I needed new OCs. But as I was now older than most ongoing anime protagonists, I wrote adopted older sister characters to the main character. I was utterly horrified. But then one of my friends shyly showed me their self insert OCs from a different fandom to me. I smiled, and then showed them mine. Even my more cringey OP ones. But I was told that the fanfiction I had written had a strangely good plot. It inspired me to be more comfortable in myself. Eventually, I wrote my own DnD campaign. With over powered characters and stupidly complicated character backstories. It was my six months of work culminated. I was so terrifed to show my friends. They were excited. And now that I'm DMing them... they love it. They always ask questions and are attached to the characters and want to know more. And you know what? I love it too. To take away from this, don't let others hold you back. Love yourself, and do what makes you happy.
As someone who is currently writing a story about a goofy vampire girl who is basically invincible to everything except the sun, garlic, and wood, and is reckless and stupid and always manages to stick her nose in whatever the actually experienced warriors are doing and never faces any consequences for it, I support rainbow unicorn alicorn fairy angel demon magical sparkle-dog laser-eyed invincible immortal super-powerful magical mary-sue OCs
I’ve realized over the years that I, MYSELF don’t hate those kind of characters. What does make me not want to see them in stories is because I know, from the bottom of my heart that there are going to be people complaining about them. And I’m easily moved by others’ opinions, so that sucks
I feel like making ocs is kind of essential to someone who might want to write their ocs into a book or something. Not self insert ocs specifically, but just characters. It helps most people to flesh out a story more, to help create round characters as opposed to flats, and to grow overall as a character designer as well as writer. They’ve helped me a lot at least! And thank you for making this video. It’s made me a lot more comfortable with the fact that I have self insert ocs. They’re very therapeutic to me and it’s slightly degrading when people just straight up hate on them. I understand constructive criticism, but a lot of people just call them cringy and move on. No further explanation. Thank you for not being that person.
I don’t have self-insert OCs but they have some relations to me My OC Electro was almost my self-insert until she’s just my OC Also I write fanfictions too :3
@@quit3118 yes me too. altho the character im thinking of was inspired/based off a fandom i really loved, she never really joined the fandom's universe. also, she got me into writing and i love her. (i dont personally write fanfics anymore, but they def help improve writing lol)
I love self insert ocs! also, if a writer is young, it can be daunting the create a whole character and world for them to live in, don't make fun of young writers who make self inserts, be honest, we all started there. self inserts can also be sophisticated and deep, they don't have to be interacting with the characters in the show/book, they could just live in the world with their own life and story.
I think if everyone thought "Oh that's cringe..." most of the characters we know and love today wouldn't be here so at the end of the day just have fun enjoy yourself art is to make YOU happy, if your inspired to do something Do it!! also MY GOSH this art is beautiful💓
It's important to make art for yourself, to endulge yourself in things you like, if you want to make a cringy oc or a fanfic with you and your favorite character. You have the right to dislike it, but people also have a right to enjoy their hobbies for themselves, and post it to the internet if they want
I'm honestly really happy you made this video. Like insanely happy. I'm not a big artist but I'm a huge RPer and writer. I make self inserts and Canon character shipped OCs. I always felt bad whenever I commissioned someone for art and unoriginal whenever I look for RP partners despite the attention to detail and days, sometimes weeks, of effort I put into my OCs whether they're inserts or not. After a certain point, I started to wonder if I was just the same middle school kid making edgy Creepypasta OCs that I was 7yrs ago bc of all the resurgence in internet hate towards "Cringe" OC content. I felt like a moron whenever I was inspired to create a new OC for a franchise and made sure that when I was finished making them that I double checked that it wasn't "too cringe". Seeing this video was freeing and affirming. So thank you so much. 🙇♀️💜
this video healed something in me, its so refreshing to finally see someone saying that its okay to make self insert ocs and so many others agreeing in the comments :') i would absolutely love to learn more about your self insert ocs!!!
i feel like people don’t understand that those canon characters are just the creator’s ocs! cringe is dead! do that you want! if you’re happy, and not harming anyone, then why should you stop?
Yeah but they’re never overpowered and everyone’s not in love with them unless it’s relevant to the character, if they’re a BAD self insert you can usually tell (for example: Zoe from MLB) I agree tho, if it’s legal and makes you happy, do it!
I don’t think self inserts are cringe. I don’t hate on furries. I don’t judge art. If it makes you happy, do it. If anyone tells you otherwise ignore them. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something that makes you happy ❤ DO MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS PLEASE-
I agree with you 100%! (as long as it's not something illegal of course like z00s or pedos. I still can't beleave there are people like that out there)
This video heals me i swear. I’ve been creating oc since i start drawing. Cant call them self insert but every oc of mine carries a piece from me and from my experiences. It’s a good way to express yourself, practice and most importantly have fun.
I was so scared this was going to crap on self insert ocs and I was worried, but to see this splendid piece of work was an absolute treat, especially you justscreaming in simping over All might. This was lovely
There’s a level of vulnerability that comes with sharing OCs with others. I really appreciate this video because it reminds me I’m allowed to have fun.
@@Ratsarehomiesif I was going to make a Mary sue character, the only traits I'd give them is being overpowered, good at everything, beautiful face, but would give them flaws and good character writing, I'd also make them have borderline personality disorder because the character has problems to finding their own person they mimicked other people personality so that other people will maybe like them since the character never gets actually love(planotanic and romantic) to others their used to people hating them they feel awkward towards them
@@Ratsarehomies well they are overpowered so yea, and since other other Mary sue parents are either dead or unknown, the parents of my Mary sue character is basically the mom hates them and wanted to take abortion and was also mad to find out that the their child is intersex, meanwhile the dad is no better and had molested their child at age 5 so meaning he a pedo(I'm sorry if this was too much, the Mary sue character backstory was somewhat inspired by angel dust(the events from addict mv) from hazbin hotel, Katharine haword(events from all you wanna do song)(I forget how to spell the last name) from six the musical and crybaby from k12 Melanie Martinez(her human past life before becoming a Fairy)
It think it depends, if you're doing this for shits and giggles, then go absolutely crazy. But if you want to make a story, then you probably need to chill on some elements.
Don't go expecting people to like it then. That's all there is to it, if you post it on the internet with billions and billions of people you already signed up to be judged.
Seeing you talk so passionately about your self-insert was very refreshing. I'm the type of people who likes self-insert fanfic and love to imagine myself as a part of favourite stories. It sucks to see the hate surrounding this type of content, I don't see why though (as long there is nothing illegal/gross in it) people should be allow to enjoy themselves! Also your art is very pretty, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your words. It feels good to hear that we can make art without the fear of being ‘weird’ or ‘cringe’. I think it unlocked something in my that I never thought could be alive again. Thanks, and your Oc is awesome !
Same!!! I would honestly not mind doing that myself. Once I get my hands on the tablet I need to draw, I would love to post stuff like this where I just put up a slideshow of drawings of an OC and ramble at the microphone about them for like twenty minutes-

God this video just made me realize how much i missed making "cringe" OCs. I think limiting yourself from just having fun in your art really limits creativity, and I've definitely been feeling it
I think we should use the "brainstorm" mentality more often, specially when making art for yourself. There is no such thing as a bad idea. Trying to limit yourself on the root of creating something will only do more harm than good. Just keep it legal ☠️
making self inserts/sonas is so much fun! you get to put someone that resembles yourself in one of your favourite universes... why wouldnt you wanna do that?!
Some people deal with self-hatred by making versions of themselves in the fictional universes they love. I don't see why a tool that helps others love themselves can be seen as cringe or bad in any way.

My first ever oc was a self insert. Her name is Lilly and she uses star magic (I was really into Fairytail when I made her so naturally she’s the celestial dragon slayer). And I still use her to this day! Not as much as I did back then, but I still love her. I’ve given her more of a personality and even though she’s become much more than just me in my favorite anime at the time, I still hold her near and dear to my heart.
My first was through fairy tail as well. I was a simple ice mage named Aurora because I was known for wearing basically nothing in winter 😂 I look back on it with a soft heart. I just wanted to live in a world of magic away from middle and high school. I think it would be fun to immerse myself with that kind of creativity now that I’m an adult.
For me self insert OCs have been a way to combat my loneliness in real life. There is nothing cringe about it. I have never really been to into fandoms so my self inserts came along when I realized just making OCs that are Original Universe characters didn't really help with friendship forming
My Demon Slayer OC is a Gem Hashira and she died in the Count Down to Sunrise arc by suffocation as Muzan coiled one of his arms around her and killed her like how a python kills its prey.
@@XIAO-j9o if you know jojo then my main oc dies in star dust crusaders passing on her hamon to jotaro then proceeds to have the rest of her life sucked out of her by DIO.
The spidersona oc take made me unreasonably mad. Like, IT'S LITERALY JUST OCS BUT POPULAR NOW. Ugh MAY I ADD, I love self insert oc's so much. I started my entire world of characters from a self-insert for fairytail I made and someone else's self insert inpired me to make my own spidersona.
I mean technically spidersona are cannon also kinda unrelated to the comment but one time i met somone who was in a spidersona and had a custom suit they were also in a wheelchair
Be creative!!! Being able to build off of something you enjoy and make a creative character based on yourself is wonderful! I love seeing people's AUs and OCs because it's so fun to look at people being creative and building off of a piece of media they like. Even if they don't fit perfectly into the world they were created for, all that matters is that the artist is having fun and not hurting anyone
I love self insert ocs so much and I want more of them honestly. Over powered? Yes. Made just to ship themselves with a canon character? Yes. Meant to help with coping with very stressful times? YES. I've made a lot of self inserts myself, meant for various purposes. Hell, I've even drawn myself as my favourite characters and I feel no shame for any of it. For sure wanting to see more of your self inserts!
Have you ever heard of getting a life, I'm not trying to be mean, it's just that self insert Oc's are too op and are used to ship themselves with their favorite character and make other characters look weak or useless. And the serious problem is that people focus more on their self insert Oc than they do on improving themselves
@@ReverseFlash-jr5tiit’s a show.. it’s not that srs let people have fun with what they want to do my god. “I’m not trying to sound mean” YOU ARE if this is how some people like spending their time by making cringe characters then so be it. There shouldn’t be rules for art or making Oc’s unless it’s inappropriate or illegal shipping 😃 if you think it’s embarrassing then ignore it and don’t tell them to “get a life” when they are living theirs the way they want
@@JoanneArch well it's just my opinion and UA-cam is a platform to share your opinions and harassing people is NOT my intention, but still using another person's character(I mean stuff like DC or Marvel characters etc.) that you don't own is messed up especially if your using them for your fantasy's and/or for NSFW purposes, and I want to make it clear that my goal isn't to be a police on the Internet I'm just stating my OPINIONS and thoughts. Sorry if I insulted anyone it's just that I have an opinion and you have yours.
@@ReverseFlash-jr5ti You can't say "its just my opinion" as if you're respecting the other person while simultaneously telling them to get a life. That's not how respecting other people's opinions work. Also, nobody mentioned anything about NSFW content-- even though NSFW of their self inserts with other characters so long as its done in private (or at least an account thats well-monitored to keep minors away) and not problematic (i.e one or both of the characters being minors). It's okay to feel uncomfortable with these things; I'm a minor myself and don't like NSFW content. However, it's simply...not your business to comment on other people's way of fun (again, so long as it's not hurting anyone). The same thing applies to characters being too overpowered or used to ship themselves with other characters; while YOU may not like it, that doesn't mean its this horrible evil thing that needs to be removed entirely. Sometimes it's just better for some people to not have to worry about your character being "good" and focusing on enjoying themselves. I personally just don't care enough unless I'm actively involved in the universe that OC is in (like if both of us made OCs and they made theirs overpowered) or if they ask for criticism on the writing. Edit: youtube doesn't like the way i type 😭😭
This is actually really comforting. As an artist, it’s nice to hear (especially from another artist) that you’re allowed to draw what makes you happy, even if it’s considered “cringe”
@@nicolo1the1author I really do, it honestly helped me in making storyboards and what-if scenarios. Like, it actually made me think deeply and do more research on how exactly my character/s fit in different anime to make it fitting. I even learn how to replicate the art styles.
fandom ocs + self inserts actually helped me develop my character design skills because i'd get obsessed with making them look like they belonged to the source material. Unintentionally made me study how certain authors/pieces of media handled design lol
I love this! I've made ocs since I was 13 and I'm 25 now and STILL make OCs. Do whatever you want with your own characters and the fandoms you love! Make all the "Cringy" self inserts you want, as long as it makes you happy, who cares?? As I said, I love this!
I'm so happy that you made this video! I feel less weird about creating self-inserts now. This video feels so genuine and your drawings look amazing 😭🫶🏻
This video is a little too relatable. I geeked out when you said you'd explain your character more bc I LOVE listening to people's character lore. Also, I cannot blame you abt the All Might thing.
Sometimes the problems people has with self ocs just sounds like jealousy in the fact that the creator dares and can draw their character interacting with a fandom favorite character
‘I’m here to do what I want, and this is what I want to do’ is one of the most motivating quotes I’ve heard for some reason The video was really nice, thank you :)
Shouldn't be a GUILTY pleasure! They look amazing, their story is more put together than most of the self inserts I've seen (this is coming from a Scratch user), and their entire friendly rivals to lovers thing is amazing!
My idea of a good self insert is either one who is slightly similar to the actual person who made the character, with a similar name and personality, or maybe a not-often appearing self-insert meant to be you, the creator of the universe inside of the universe you created, whether it has the powers of a god or not doesn’t really change the overall quality directly.
13:35 To be real, I’d actually love to see more of your OCs! The FNAF ones, any others you’ve made. World-building, backstories, interesting plot lines and personalities, I’ll eat it all up. Lovely to see you upload, your channel is amazing!
Oh, I'm so glad that there's people who can understand self inserts. It is a coping mechanism for me, yes.. It brings me comfort. I love some stories so much that I wanna be a part of it. Or.. I'm just curious about things like "ooh, how would I look in this world?". It's just fun to think about! And also inspiring. I'm having issues with inspiration lately, so self inserts kinda help me with that. I used to be really ashamed of it, because I thought that what I'm doing is cringe and people will hate me for it. I'm still nervous about it, but, thanks to people like you, it's getting better, hehe. Thank you for this video!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I loved your OC, that's a very creative background! I love to creatively write, so as you can imagine, I've had some self-inserts in some universes I cared deeply for. For the longest time, I've struggled with the fact that others would see it as cringe- even though I had no intentions of showing it to anyone. Over time I outgrew that feeling. This video helped a lot. Thank you!
making ocs for things im interested in is such a big comfort of mine, it makes me happy to imagine how theyd interact with the canon characters, the plot, and the world its just so brain scratching for me. I love seeing people putting their ocs into the fandoms and showing their lore bc i cant animate and barely have motivation to draw so its nice to see them happy since I can only imagine
I made my own MHA self insert OC back in 2020 as well, her name was Ryū Maekona. I wanted her to be just like me but she took on a life of her own as I improved on her character. She’s Eri’s sister (I spun a wheel and that’s what I got lol), and her quirk used to be just some weird reality bending stuff that could break both her mind and reality itself if she wasn’t careful. Now her quirk is an altering power that allows her to change the properties of molecules, e.g. speeding their movement up or slowing them down, which would heat or cool the object they were apart of respectively. It’s a difficult quirk to master, but a skill she gains later is changing the mass of objects (basically just changes how gravity works for that object). I’m kind of proud of Ryū for becoming her own character and defining herself, and the quirk thing is even cooler simply because _✨science.✨_ Ryū is basically my child at this point lol
That's very cool, I love it honestly! My own self-insert had something similar, she didn't quite have a natural quirk but an injected artificial one, (long story-) which basically consist in ink tentacles, like nightmare sans,, but since she can't use that much cause it's intoxicating her from the inside so she learns how to bend matter ad the reality around her, aswell as the multiverse :D
I don't think there's anything wrong with self insert ocs. I think your oc is really cool, and their story is pretty creative! Now I want to see your fnaf oc too lol
Seeing this video was just so fun, cool and motivational for me. Im pretty deep down into self inserts arts and that kind of thing and i always felt kind of deslocated and shamefull about that, since i never saw anyone talk about it on the internet. BTW I absolutely loved how whe can see your happiness in the moment you start talking about luky and her traits, it was just adorable.❤🩹
Love seeing self insert representation! I'm always so scared to call my oc's "self inserts" because I feel like it'll be called cringe. it's refreshing to see someone embracing it in a way showing that we just do it for fun :)
I love hearing people's cringy ocs because it's actually so refreshing for someone too actually act human and not a super cold stone hard skibidi toilet 16 year old who can't ever laugh or engage in any sort of fun besides making fun of people and sending memes of baby gronk all day
I’d restate what I said on the community post but that’s a lot of words. I’m happy someone like you just creating what you wanna make regardless if it’s “cringe” (I think it’s silly to call stuff cringe). I’d love to hear about your ocs as well! Regardless if they are self inserts or not
I'm very glad you came out with this, nobody should be afraid of what people might think of them because of what they like to do. I used to do a lot of self-inserts and I might redesign them because you gave me the courage, I used to be afraid of what people might think but your not. Thank you for being yourself! ❤❤
The smile you can hear in their voice really shows how happy these silly OCs can make people, and how dumb those who want to take this joy away “because it’s cRiNgE” are
I SERIOUSLY RESPECT HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ALL MIGHT BRO!!!! I LOVE the fact that your OC was in All Mights class and was in All Might's agency!! Personally I'm not sure how I feel about the romance part cause... I mean... Whatever 😅 I seriously do love the fact that you think All Might is awesome!!!! Hes my life. I couldnt help but comment dude, im freaking out to see someone whose favorite character is my bro.
I appreciate that you are sharing this!! I have never made a self insert OC other than a Warrior Cats one in elementary school, but I partake in other “cringe” fandom activities like reading fanfic and making fanart and generally being in “cringe” fandoms! I’ve NEVER had an OC (I definitely got it into my head that I’d do it wrong and get bullied off the internet if I made one) but I might make one soon, I’m feeling inspired now :D
hey hey!! just wanted to say that making an oc doesn't necessarily HAVE to be tied to the internet-something as simple as writing about them or making small doodles is more than enough!! really, most ocs start as little concepts anyway, and whether their devlopement is on the internet or not doesn't make them any less of a character!! making characters is something that i've done for as long as i can remember, and even if it is something simple, it's just super cathartic to create your own little beings, especially since there aren't really any limitations! good luck, and i hope you have fun!!
@@hubberspac5354 that’s a very good point, thank you for that! I hadn’t thought of it that way because the only ocs I’ve been exposed to were through the internet, thank you for pointing that out to me! I actually did make a new character (so far it’s just a design, no name or backstory) but I have got art commissioned of them and it’s my pfp now! When I get more confident in my art abilities again I will definitely draw them myself more and create a name and backstory and everything. Thank you so much!
Ok so I understand both viewpoints and I have a love hate relationship over it as I’m an active participant and sometimes I look back and cringe but you hit it on the point of a coping mechanism (at least for myself) it’s why I never drag others down for “cringe art” as even if I may run into one or two that genuinely make me cringe I do it and literally follow it up with, “I’m glad they look like they made it, hope they enjoyed making it.”
I think self insert ocs are cute!! I just get annoyed when people use them to go “look how amazing I am, look how morally superior I am!!” And then make them do a bunch of stuff that stops them being an oc. They make their character of them self not act like them self anymore.
As someone who’s been messing around with a self-insert OC of their own that’s *gasp* shipped with a canon character that I want to write a fanfic about I needed to see this 😭 not even an MHA fan but I adored seeing ur OC and hearing your aggressively passionate love for a canon character lmfao I don’t usually leave comments but 10/10
but how does this affect lebron james legacy???
Because you wrote a character that looks like they got unresolved childhood trauma after getting anally probed by their parents.
Uh..... It doesn't?

idk im just trying to grill here!
Lebron had seen this video in his recommended while taking a dump.
Horikoshi even said that mineta was a self insert of sorts, that mineta was his pervy side turned to it's logical extreme.
Isn't Mineta also his self insert to some extent 😭😭😭
No one complains because Aizawa did the opposite of most characters that are self inserts, he STARTED cringe and then uncringed simply by making his cringe cool. He's one of the coolest cringe characters that could exist. That's why people love him
No one calls Aizawa cringe because he's the authors character in the same authors story. He made everything about the world on his own. He belongs to that story, not the story and some other artist.
'Some franchises inspired me so much, i had to insert myself into it'
I have NEVER felt so seen.

And fnaf and furries 👁👄👁
My persona IS usable as a self insert!
This so real for the most part, my self insert ocs and sonas are one in the same for almost everything but splatoon. More people should feel comfy being crimge
i thought the self insert thing also applied to sonas. like, people would shit on whatever the fuck Cupsonas were. the more you know ig
regardless if the art is “bad” or “cringe”, i honestly hate when people hate on people having fun. like, i understand when things are ACTUALLY problematic (like drawing CP or promoting SH behaviors), but if it isn’t harming anyone, why do people care so much? why is it “cringe” to just have fun? it may not be “cool” or “good” but who cares. if it doesn’t affect you, live and let live! especially with furries and OCs, as long as they aren’t harming anyone or promoting harmful behaviors, then it’s really not a big deal.
Ok, honestly I LOVE this. Deku is honestly overpowered and so is, like, pretty much everyone else, so this makes sense, it fits, and I love it.

Yes! The era of cringe is over!
I created my first OC while I was in elementary school. As I recall he was a perpetually upset chain smoking failed writer. When I took the drawing to school ,the first question I received was "is that a boy or a girl" this became a theme throughout my life.
Villain origin story
My first OC was a pug humanoid wearing a diaper thats a super hero
Edit: to add more to this they became a humanoid when they were trying to pee on a fire hydrant but then got struck by lightning and had acid poured on them, the villain they fight is a cyborg monkey
Ny first oc was an elephant, it was a kindergarten project.
My first ever oc was a small square robot I made back when I was 7-8. She looked hella similar to Neptr from adventure time
my firsg oc was me but a demon angel hybird who could control darkness…
I view self inserts as a way to interact with comfort characters and belong to a world you love! Its a great feeling to draw those things😊

I needed to hear this, Thank you
You have my respect ❤
It’s good to express yourself. But there will always be a line to everything
@@_em4042and what do you consider this line to be?
I think the line reaches the point where your audience genuinely is uncomfortable reading the characters stories, like if they do honestly terrible things or show traits of the creator that honestly are concerning. I think that's my line.
I feel like every oc has a part of their creator in them. Soooo
GO WILD! Art is supposed to be FUN! Being in a fandom is supposed to be FUN!
That's scary because all of my OCS have really bad trauma 😅
Shoot 💀💀💀💀
Lol same.

I really like self inserts or ocs people make. They’re fun and not really harmful, so make all the Mary Sues and don’t feel bad about it
I am a fully grown woman and I will always advocate for and love any and all self inserts.
Self insert and reader insert might as well be one in the same. And i love them both
@@theclown2257 What are reader inserts?
Also - thank you for making this video.
Hell yeah!
If edgy or op ocs were illegal or something, then characters like Jotaro Kujo wouldn’t exist!
self indulgent media in general is just amazing. the locked tomb book series is one of my favourite examples of completely self indulgent writing. the passion for the stories and the characters is tangible, some of the plot is there for pure fun and i love seeing someone just do that you know?? nothing beats a piece of media that you just know someone created out of pure love of the concept (or even someone elses content, in the case of self inserts). humans just have passion for things?? and can express it in such fun and cool ways?? so why restrict them because it's cringe???
I LOVE when people make OC’s and self inserts! I can’t imagine hating on someone for doing something harmless that makes them happy? But anyway, your art is so amazing! I love the colors you use
I don't get why ocs/self-inserts gets hate and such when there's a lot of fanfics where the canon protagonist gets "mary-sued" and no one bats a eye, even daring to call it "better written than canon".
samee, i love them. I even draw some of them sometimes, especifically those mary sues made on purpose
I robbed a bank and the police shot me
"Self inserts are cringe" me when I don't like having fun and experiencing whimsical joy in my life

I feel like we were all scared from the days of “this is a cringe deviant art post!” Where grown men would bully small children for making cute oc’s online.
We were all taught that a character that stands out and has a fun funky design, or one that is just wish fulfillment is bad.
But here’s their fun thing that no one tells you…
It doesn’t fucking matter!
So stop being afraid to write self insert characters who interact directly with the main plot or characters
Who cares?
People will hate it, but their opinion on YOUR harm free creative reality escape is incredibly unvalid lmao
go and have fun!
!!!!

I usually leave the overpowered Oc's to personal crossovers I make with some friends, but it's always fun to see how badly we can fuck up the world in certain crossovers and sometimes how badly we fucked over ourselves by making the BBEG overpowered by mistake (usually giving it to one Group/Tribe/Race and later going: "oh god, wait- BBEG is part of that group/tribe/race."
then trying to figure out how to overcome that, sometimes its a normal BBEG fails, sometimes the BBEG wins and sometimes some characters die fighting the BBEG- and sometimes one of the villain's die a hero in the public's eye, while the heroes are seen as villains.

That sounds really interesting! Are you gonna publish it anywhere online? also, absolutely agree!
I’ve realized over the years that I, MYSELF don’t hate those kind of characters. What does make me not want to see them in stories is because I know, from the bottom of my heart that there are going to be people complaining about them. And I’m easily moved by others’ opinions, so that sucks

I wonder with vampires is it just wood that they are weak to or is it just the wood stake?

It's okay to feel uncomfortable with these things; I'm a minor myself and don't like NSFW content. However, it's simply...not your business to comment on other people's way of fun (again, so long as it's not hurting anyone).
Beautiful talented showstopping never done before just wonderful amazing I can’t the talent is just exquisite the amount of talent is unreal
I see
I don't think there's anything wrong with self insert ocs.
I actually would love to hear more about your OCs I like seeing how creative people are. Me and my friends got nearly 100 ocs for MHA between us lol
Interesting
Think I'm a little too dedicated to this channel, thanks for making cool art! Wait CAN YOU SHOW US YOUR FNAF OC?!
I WANNA SEE THAT TOO OML
YESSSS I WANNA SEE IT TOO !!
YES
YESS
YES PLEASE
I mean... Whatever 😅
I seriously do love the fact that you think All Might is awesome!!!!
Pretty on point for me aswell dude!
I think self insert ocs are cute!! I just get annoyed when people use them to go “look how amazing I am, look how morally superior I am!!” And then make them do a bunch of stuff that stops them being an oc. They make their character of them self not act like them self anymore.
As someone who’s been messing around with a self-insert OC of their own that’s *gasp* shipped with a canon character that I want to write a fanfic about I needed to see this 😭 not even an MHA fan but I adored seeing ur OC and hearing your aggressively passionate love for a canon character lmfao I don’t usually leave comments but 10/10
I love your OCs, I don't care if they're over powered. They're made with love and passion.
i like ur pfp!
