I can't get over the perfect timing Dave has on every song, And all the beautiful extras, He always throws in while playing the melodies. A born steel guitarists. And David knew how to pick the man who could keep up with him, John on the guitar. Rip
I hope you are in the Hall of Fame as you are perhaps one of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. That guitar has exceptional brilliance and clarity, especially up there in Hugheyland, unbelievable!
Hello Dave.........My wife and I listen to your wonderful music quite often........You have tried nearly every brand of steel guitar...............Your fans from Prince Edward Island,Canada
I totally agree. The 705 has the better tone. Proud owner of 2 Justice Judge SD10S with 705s. Fred called me and told me that it was the best sound for this steel. Telonics is a great pickup and has the option of balancing strings by adjusting the pole pieces. That has some advantages but overall I'm very happy with the 705s.
This video made my day. Just a bunch of very well done, pleasant steel guitar sweetness. Put a tear in my eye and flowed with good memories of my grandfather. We used to listen to old country on his reel-to-reel.
David, you are marvelous player and that Justice and the rest of your rig sounds fabulous! No doubt you have to be in the upper echelon of players in your area! Thanks for the very enjoyable tour of your new ax and showing how your signal path is setup!
Check out "Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun". It features the pedal steel work of none other than Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead. Psychedelia handles pedal steel very well.
Pedal steel guitars are expensive, heavy to lug around, take time to adjust and set up. And very difficult to learn to play. Not thought of as a rhythm instrument, for fills and lead. These are some reasons this is a dying instrument. I love the sound of a pedal steel. Also, sneered at by the Appalachian purist players, who will not let a pedal steel in their group. Bluegrass: guitar, banjo, dulcimer, fiddle. Modern country does not support pedal steels, they have distorted Telecasters. I’m afraid the instrument peaked in the 1960’s. I love pedal steel, but it’s over. God bless David Hartley.
David, That's brilliant playing and the settings sounds real sweet. You are obviously a massive talent. Keep up the super playing, and top marks from this David.
David, your playing is so fantastic, and most of all, I love to see, that John Stannard was a friend of yours, knowing him as an awful musician in Bill Conlon's band Emerald, and so sad to hear that he passed. Last weekend I met Bob Haskell in Germany and he also told me, to know you. What a fine constellation. Wish you all the best. Have a Merry Christmas and keep on playing good music. It's the pedalsteel that makes Countrymusic "COUNTRY"
I scored a Justice Judge SD10 3x5 and it's a great guitar with Lawrence 705 pickup. Smooth as silk pedals and holds tune well. Stunning to look at. You're playing is an inspiration to many of us hacks. Thanks.
I do not play myself, but you sir, did absolutely phenomenal!!! I hope to one day pick up on the steel guitar myself and you are a grey inspiration for it! I am only 18 years old, but I love the genres in which this instrument is played in. Well done!
watched you play at the Justice booth in Dallas. One of the highlights of the show for me. Was impressed with their guitars as well. Love the Red and Black.....classy!
I gotta go watch some Dukes of Hazard now after listening to this. Haha.. On a serious note, the three instruments that have always fascinated me are the steel table guitar, the hammond b3 organ, and the accordion. I know they have nothing to do with each other, but the complexity to play either one is what intrigues me. Nice video!
My last name is Hartley, I am told our family came out of Southern England, I play the piano and the banjo but I would absolutely love to learn to play the steel. You sound incredible!!
Man that sounds so good,You sure play very well. I want to learn the steel so bad but I can barely play the regular guitar so i'm sure that would be impossible. Keep cranking out the tunes....Love hearing you play!!!!
I know nothing about pedal steel guitars or who is an excellent guitar player but listening to this man play it is apparent to me that he's exceptional at the pedal steel guitar. a beautiful instrument.
I am 79 and he is the best I have ever heard.
That is absolutely gorgeous. The world needs more steel guitar.
A Brit playing some badass country steel guitar. Sweet!

wBryang it could sound hawaiian this sound more hawaiian
Hawaiian music and Country music does have a lot in common, because of the steel guitar.
