- Third exclusive video is dedicated to the Rally Legend 2014. This time it's a tribute to some of the amazing Group B cars present. Sure could not miss the queens of that golden era like the Audi Sport Quattro S1 the Lancia Delta S4 and the Peugeot 205 T16 arrived at extreme developments before deleting this category. The impressive acceleration, the turbo sound, the exhaust flames, all those things are pure enjoyment! Viva group B that can be relived in events such as the Legend!

Non potevano mancare le regine di quell'epoca d'oro come l'Audi Sport Quattro S1, la Lancia Delta S4 e la Peugeot 205 T16 giunte ad estreme evoluzioni prima della cancellazione di questa categoria. l'impressionante accelerazione, il suono dei turbo, le fiamme allo scarico, tutto l'insieme è da brividi! @@cyclingschannel its called the umluft system it dumps thru a valve simmilar to a wastegate into the exhaust to keep the turbo spooling and that is a wastegate noise you are hearing on the exhaust side its an open wastegate to the ground.

That S4 Is by far the most impressing in my opinion. But respect to the Audi, that 5Cylinder isnt messing around.
There has always been a rift between the two fans, who prefer the Audi S1 and those who prefer the Lancia S4. As a rally enthusiast, I believe both are the pinnacle of group B (along with the Peugeot T16) without distinction 😉

You're right, incredible for the cars that raced but very dangerous for the drivers who had to drive them. Luckily there are these revival rallies where we can still see them in action, certainly not driven to the limit as in the golden age but it's always better than observing them closed in some museum/garage/private collection

What I wouldn't give to be able to own a 1985 Audi Sport quattro fully spec'd out to be an exact replica of the S1 E2 with the full aero package and everything. If Ken Block wasn't already living every man's car dream and then some, him being able to drive the S1 E2 is just the cherry on top xD
I understand what you mean, that Audi is the dream of many of us; however, let me say, being able also to have a Lancia Delta S4 Group B would be wonderful 👍

That Audi is pushing almost 800hp. The Delta S4 is at almost 600. Group B rally was absolutely nuts, its a shame it got shut down, but those cars were too crazy.

The Sport Quattro wins hands down. It's engine sound is one of the most famous in all of motorsport. I remember seeing and hearing it at the Swedish rally in 1985, seven years old, plowing through the snow and night. It's been my favourite car ever since and is certainly the most iconic rally car in history. The Quattro changed rallying forever and Audi jumped from being a boring car, to the brand it is today.
I don't give a fuck what anybody say's no modern car's come close to the having the raw emotion moving soul these car's had, These modern technology packed super refined, traction control will save you if you make a mistake car's just ain't the same. These group b beasts where driven on the edge of suicide, no driver aid's driven on the line of life and death you simply can't get that experience from anything else, i can only imagine what group b drivers experienced in their time.
+Woofer Cooker see them once a year on hillclimbs and I'm sorry but nowadays F1 is a joke, car racing without sound is dead to me as a spectator, as pilot it must be great but for the audience there's nothing to see or hear really
from what I heard the worst of the 80s was the turbo lag and on/off of the power, something an old Japanese pilot of cars kinda like the Toyota GT-One but from the 80s (don't ask me the type I have no idea) said was the worst in that era it went from like 150hp worth of acceleration to 900hp in 1000rpm, no idea about the torque but with like 3,5b/50psi I guess they had a lot of it rofl
Maybe you should start giving fucks; paying attention, doing some research before talking trash. Traction control and driving aids in general had been removed 10 years back by the time you made this comment. It's now more than 15 years without driving aids.

The Audi's...brutal !. That said, all those cars were special in their own ways....but never really liked the RS200.
I was always a fan of the Metro 6R4 and 205 T16.
I was a teenager in the 80's and remember these cars. The danger from the speeds was always there.....crowd control wasn't, but it was different times back then.....some spectators will always stand in crazy places, ignoring the fact a car could go out of control at any time.
I think we are the same age and what you wrote is also what I experienced as a child. Being Italian, I loved the Lancias, the 037 and the S4 very much. I fully agree with the considerations you wrote about the public. Today all this is unthinkable.

@@faustocontini2903 Io lo dico da anni, ma sai qual'è il problema? Che le nuove generazioni non hanno minimamente idea di cosa fossero i rally nel periodo d'oro. Far partire queste auto prima delle WRC darebbe l'idea, agli occhi di tutti, di come ci sia stata una enorme involuzione nelle auto da rally moderne. Lasciamo perdere la velocità. Sappiamo tutti che le attuali auto sono degli aeroplani. Ma per tutto il resto, stile, emozione, suoni, fascino, il confronto per loro sarebbe impietoso. E la FIA lo sa bene... Te lo dice uno che ama i rally e li segue, ma solo un pazzo potrebbe dirmi che preferisce un motore 1.6-Litri turbo quattro cilindri ad un'Audi S1 5 cilindri o ad una Lancia 037 con volumetrico...
@@Italiansupercarvideo Sì, c'è da dire che trattandosi di investimenti delle case madri comunque finalizzate allo sviluppo del ramo commerciale, quello è stato forse un periodo dove ci si focalizzava principalmente sulla 'propulsione' e meno nel resto. Lei immagini lo testimoniano. Hai assolutamente ragione, la risultante magica per un vero appassionato è di avere assistito ad uno spettacolo difficilmente ripetibile, avere provato una concentrazione di emozioni che oggi scaldano il cuore ancora molto.
Giovani talenti, ragazzi, grintosi e capaci, che non dimenticheremo mai però, hanno pagato con la vita, perchè a un pilota più ne dai e più ne mette. Altrimenti difficilmente si può considerare tale (in termini di professionismo).
Oggi è il momento in cui lo sviluppo è forse solo più focalizzato sul 'controllo' (come diceva il vecchio spot di Zia Pirelli, la potenza senza controllo...), speriamo in un domani dove con un controllo più efficace tornino a scervellarsi su motori mostruosi !
E soprattutto che ci accontentino con le apripista ! Sarebbe davvero un sogno.

Certamente è stata un'altra epoca, capisco che dopo quel tributo di sangue era doveroso mettere un freno alla costante crescita di potenza. Come hai ben detto, quella di certo non mancava, era tutto il resto che faceva fatica a seguire di pari passo. Pensa al giorno d'oggi dove abbiamo ogni componente ottimizzato per reggere le alte prestazioni, sarebbe uno spettacolo magnifico, ma ahimè, probabilmente, nuovamente molto pericoloso. Amo i rally revival proprio perchè ogni tanto queste auto si possono rivedere, aggiungo anche le Gruppo 4 come la stratos, le Porsche, la Ferrari 308, tutte macchine emozionanti. Per quanto riguarda gli apripista chissà se un giorno ci asolteranno, con un Rohl sull'Audi, un Biasion sulla S4 e via dicendo....

Can you legally own and drive these around town?
I don't know; I don't think so; they are not street legal cars. However, travel on ordinary roads is allowed for transfers between one stage and another of the rally. It should be understood if there are specialized companies that can do what you ask. After all, if they have managed to homologate a Maserati MC12 Corsa for legally driving on the road, everything can be done 😅

Not, you are not the only one. The sound of the S4 with turbo and volumetric compressor is also more particular than that of the S1. Both are great cars. They are the two queens of rallies ever 👍

Beautiful images and sound, but to refer only to the Audi and Lancia as the most powerful of the Group B, without referring to the 205T, which proved to be an impressive platform even on the Dakar, is not being too precise in the assessment of what Group B was.
Even more so when Lancia came to be made based on many new ideas brought by the 205T.
As they appeared, each one of them dominated all the others, so the three are the biggest "monsters" of rally.
However, the biggest "Beast" ever was Audi by far.

Concordo, di recente ho visto le attuali WRC in azione, belle, per carità ma il 5 cilindri Audi, il suono da bombardiere della S4, fischi, fiamme, fascino...non c'è storia! Vero che le Guppo B erano diventate talmente potenti che era difficile gestirle e si rischiava di morire ad ogni prova, ma per questo chi le guidava al limite per me erano più gladiatori che piloti.
