No matter how many times you suddenly cut to black on your KIAs, it always makes me jump. You sure pissed off that YF-23 wingman. The way he followed the cripple AWACS down and even shot it some more with guns just to make sure made it seem like he was unleashing pure rage.
Got me good too, lol.
He just wanted to commit murder at this pointy, he wasn't just taking down the AWACS, he wanted anyone in it to die! Pure rage.

Idk why there's anything to dodge in the first place. I was under the impression that missiles at hypersonic speeds have trouble receiving guidance due to plasma formation.

Also at such short range the missile wouldn’t have reached hypersonic speed yet either.

To put it mildly.
My uncle worked on the YF-23 Blackwidow II and told me that the YF-23 was actually on par with maneuverability due to the massive tail planes. He said they never really got into testing its maneuverability too much so it was told that it was less maneuverable l. Thought that I’d like to share that
This is where the 23 really failed same as the x32. They weren't at the same level of testing as the 22 and 35 and it hurt their image in the competition even if the end product would have been great.
F-22 is only more maneuverable at extreme low speed. Just to put it in comparison, the ruddervators of the F-23 is as big as many aircraft's main wings, think F-5 size

Stealth is good, when the felons had to break lock their missiles tended to miss. YF-23 missile could self guide to target better

If I was the "Widow lead". I would have played it like the scenario in Red Storm Rising Frisbees of Dreamland. Hug the Earth and pop up at the last minute to smoke the AWACS.

The YF-23 has stayed top secret for so many years that very few have ever seen the aircraft or know anything about it. I worked on the Northrop crew that built the first F18 Prototypes in the Hawthorne plant back in the late 70s. In the later 80s a few of those guys had went over to the YF23 program, and remember one of them saying long hours and over time from hell. Said he would probably be divorced over it. Those were the days like no others.
The Yf-23 wingman thought you killed his brother or something. He’ll be an ace in no time, that is, if he doesn’t kill everything in his wake!

@gld1010 That was my thought. Just looking at it is enough to conclude that it was leagues ahead of everything else at the time, and even to this day. Especially with the F22 being so publicly known, it would make sense for them to use that as a smokescreen while the YF-23 went on to become the top secret fighter that was seemingly just a myth.

You know, after you killed the YF-23 leader, the wingman went: "When the Doom music starts playing." Would have been a fitting backdrop for the rest of the video.
Black Widow wingman got the blood rage like the Captain in 300.
For clarification about the, “seeing stealth”. China can also see stealth. However that doesn’t mean they can get a lock. “Stealth” isn’t being invisible. It’s about preventing detection and a lock on long enough to do the mission. Most stealth aircraft are trackable to low band radar. But not trackable for high frequency. Which gives the radar quality required for a good lock. So low band radar will give you the notification that there’s something there. But you won’t see it for targeting.
Finally someone who says it!! Personally I think it is even more horrible, imagine knowing that there is someone out there who wants to kill you bu you literally can't do anything to shoot him down, that must be very demoralizing
Adding on to this, using the bands that can see stealth will mean you see damn near everything else out there and get a massively cluttered radar picture filled with things like birds clouds and other unhelpful returns

Not as weird as the fact that they chose not to fire at the Felons for so long. Absolutely 0 reason a Felon with external munitions should have first kill opportunity. 200km vs. 160km missile range doesn't mean much when the Felon shouldn't be aware of the the YF-23 until it detects the incoming AMRAAM.

It seems that's very beneficial to guide those missiles as long as possible when you are dealing with a stealth opponent as a missile radar is not nearly as sensitive as a radar on a jet.
That YF-23 wingman knew the task. It filled that AWACS with holes to make sure it was going down hard.

I gotta say, the Felon lawn dart maneuver is one of my favorites.
Coincidentally, the readiness of SU-57 is about the same as the F-23.
I was kind of hoping both wingmen would take each other out so that both awacs would have to try and ram each other.

That first missile hitting the YF-23 was pure luck, the Black Widow got its name for a reason.
I also felt it was very lucky, especially after seeing it dodge all the other missiles.
