    Got directed here from the Otafest facebook page. Certainly seems like an interesting camera, though not one I could personally see myself using a ton.
    It was a fun surprise to see me and my friends' cosplays at 7:14, though.
    Thanks for coming and lending your hardware to the convention, it made things a lot more fun for us, even though you guys certainly do look as though you felt a little out of place lol

    at 2:45... just use the NFC function and you'd be done in MUCH less time
    at 5:35... world to dumbasses that does reviews without pre-testing functions on the product they do the review on (no mather what product)... READ THE F-ING MANUAL before making the review!!
    at 7:18... it becomes 1920x1080p when you have updated the firmware in the camera. the latest firmware can be found on sonys homepage.... it also fixes about 95% of the connection lost bugs.
    8:45 the camera is pre-set to turn off after about 1minute of no use to save battery life. nothing wrong with that.
    at 10:05... yes, if your not really careful about just pushing the shutter button half way in (making the camera focus) it will result in a less good picture.
    at 10:20... the camera lenses (there's more models than "just" the QX100) all comes with a WRISTBAND, this is to be used so you don't drop it... however this guy seemed not aware of how to mount the wristband onto the camera or something so not suprised about him worried about dropping it.
    MY review of this review is that it lacks SEVERAL important keyfeatures. the person need to test the product before the accual review so he knows what he is doing. also... this review did not include NFC use (important if you want a FAST connection phone to camera) even if the phone he is using HAS NFC... he completely forgot to talk about the "focus ring" the QX100 has (combined with manual mode) giving it manual controll and settings maybe not full controll but still some more control the cheaper QX10 lacks....

    I'm glad you make these videos. I have cancelled my order. I may still pick it up when they go on clearance just like I got my K-01which turned out to be a nice camera for my old manual focus lenses. Especially my A* 50 1.2.

    `...an interesting first-go into the genre...' sums it up perfectly. I'm a fan of Sony cameras, and I think the QX10/100 are a novel concept. But I think most people are far better off just buying an RX100 Mk II, or even the original RX100, both fantastic cameras. What I'm really waiting for is for Sony to put that 1" sensor inside a smartphone, it's probably just a matter of time.
    Great video Chris and Jordan.

    Gotta give Sony props for doing some really radical products in recent months: RX1, RX100, Rx10, A7, and this. Even if this is kind of a mess, hats off for trying. But you also wonder how it made it out of the lab. Seems like they could have gotten the marketing pr buzz by showing off a prototype and not had to produce something that not many people should buy.

    • @dudeiusmannigast1543
      @dudeiusmannigast1543 9 років тому

      the only mess with this review was the fact they did NOT show NFC connection (phone to camera... takes like 3-4sec but instead went manual connection making it take 10+ sec to connect.)
      they completely forgot to show and talk about the manual focus ring the QX100 has among other things... just downright bad review. but you are right about trying something new!! sony sure is brave! they did not talk much about the camera saving the full size image to the microSD card in the cam and sending a 2mp image to the phone so the user can share and edit on the go...

    Its pretty exciting product. Use can't expect the first version to be perfect all the time. Its a really good idea. The problem I see mostly is the play memories app. It need to be updated to give more options for the camera settings, the app feels quite left out.

  • @beatsneakertv957
    @beatsneakertv957 10 років тому +9

    Thats a surprisingly harsh review, but I've noticed that most photographic stores just don't seem to get where Sony are coming from with this product and tend to forget who it's aimed at. Also, I've notice not many stores are updating their reviews as the product gets updated (it now has ISO control and 1920x1080 video that it didn't have when you reviewed it). If it does get discontinued, then it will be down to public ignorance. This is a totally new product category and the chances of getting it right first time are slim, even for a company like Sony. Such a shame...

    • @dudeiusmannigast1543
      @dudeiusmannigast1543 9 років тому +2

      they even forgot the focus ring the QX100 has... nor did they test the NFC function to connect to it... so not only is it a harsh review but a bad one at it!
      anyway sony keep making these cameras and have made a 2nd gen of them. both the QX30... this is a camera with 30x optical zoom and 20mp. somewhere inbetween the QX100 and QX10 in size. there's also a PRO camera... the QX1, where you can mount sonys E-type camera lenes on it :) and take pictures in RAW (also jpeg)

  • @scourdx

    Try pairing the QX100 or other QX series camera with Sony Live View Remote (RM-LVR1/RM-LVR2) and you don't need your phone to hook up. Startup and pairing with Live View Remote is way faster than mobile phone.

  • @KenCheng
    @KenCheng 10 років тому

    I got to play the QX100 for quite a bit and yeah, the connection issue was a problem for me too. In fact, after I finally got them to connect, a phone call came in and kick the QX100 off, then it wouldn't connect at all. So I have to resort to rebooting the phone. Also, another downer is that a lot of the effects features that are in the RX100/RX100II aren't in the QX100

    the best thing about this lens camera is you can put it down somewhere, and from a distance take shots or video using your cell phone as the monitor, and maybe get some unusual angles, but to use it just as a camera doesn't make sense, i would much rather have the rx100 for a portable camera that you can put in your pocket, or a gx7 when you want to use your cell phone as a monitor, I think this QX will maybe be popular with the pervs

    Hello TCSTV, I really like your reviews on camera specially SONY ones, and I am actually saving some money to get this QX100, but a lot of bad reviews out there saying that this is a BAD product from SONY. Most of these reviews are based on a premature software for the QX and Android/IOS App. SONY released lots of software update for both the Lens and App, a mature better software that really really improved the Lens and the Experience for this kind of niche product.
    If you could upgrade the QX100 with latest software v3.0 and playmemories mobile 5.0.2, and do another field test Outdoors just like what you do with your camera reviews. I don't see anyone do an Update Review for QX100,
    BTW if you do, please use NFC, the update really highlights the One Touch connectivity of this product and some more manual controls and features.
    Thanks a lot

    I was so glad that I saw this video because...I almost bought this product today. lol! The first time i saw the ad campaign of this product I really thought that this camera/lens has manual controls, what a dissapointment! And what's weird: When I came to the store to pick up my QX100, I asked the staff if I can try it first...to check functionality and test shots...the staff gave me a gargantuan NO! If I open the box, it is good as sold! What the !?!?! So now It make sense why they don't let customers test the product first

    Love your reviews. Just a couple of questions: Did I miss something? Did your try connecting using the NFC function on the camera and phone? I have a Panasonic with NFC. It is always time consuming to connect to a phone, even with NFC. But much faster than manually connecting.

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому +1

      The NFC certainly simplifies the procedure. But using once we had connection using the standard setup it was very easy to reconnect when the signal dropped, it just took too long. Also I should mention that NFC didn't work well with the HTC One but it did work great on the SONY reps Sony Experia. Go figure...

    I really think that this product has a market. Being a camera salesperson, it has a lot of appeal to people who already love shooting with their phone, but want a better quality image. I think you guys did a great review (as always), but in my opinion you missed what this product is really aimed at. People who buy these use the touch-to-focus, point and click, share via facebook/twitter/drop box, and don't want something complicated. Also, for phones with NFC the connection time is a lot quicker because you don't have to manually open the app or connect via wifi and so on.
    That being said, I'm sure your market is more technical or experienced photographers and this is definitely not the product for them.

    Nice review overall, but seriously... why go to an Anime convention if it made you that uncomfortable? And to return your snide remark with another: "you remember when it was called Japanimation?" The proper name was always "Anime" Japanimation was a term coined by a bunch of American marketers that were bent of really badly dubbed butchered stories. Glad that term and those companies no longer exist.
    OK... end personal rant.
    I think you guys are pretty spot on about this product. the big question is.. why would i want to attach a huge "lens" to my phone when i can more conveniently carry a better camera around. The only use i see for this is if you want to do remote shooting on the cheap.

      Timothy Tasmin How is using your phone as the LCD a good concept. Cumbersome to use when walking around compared to a P+S like the RX100. A lot of cameras have built in wifi now if you want to transfer images to your phone later. Why would you want to save raw files on your phone?

      Most phones nowadays have far superior panels compared to any camera which provide a huge advantage to outdoor visibility when taking photos/videos. Yes, if you have the RX100 MK II you can opt to get the EVF, but good luck dropping $450 for that. Cumbersome? The RX100 is definitely not that much better than the QX100, it definitely isn't the most ergonomic camera w/ it's absence of a grip and small body. And if I can transfer files to my phone right then and there it would save me the hassle of doing it later. Plus just imagine the integration of cloud-based storage such as automatically uploading to your Dropbox, Flickr, or w/e you use then you wouldn't have to save them on your phone.

      We're big fans of most of Sony's cameras, we just really didn't like the QX cameras. Check out some of our other Sony reviews.

      it's so said the review was poorly made. no NFC connection (to cut time bellow half connecting to the camera)
      no test of the manual focus ring either... just down right a bad review.

      Hmmm... we polled the entire store. Asked everybody we could. Turns out we're not racist. We are funny though.
