    Just bought this camera and wanted to mention the firmware upgrade addresses some of the codec issues. Firmware updates for the RX10 now enable shooting 60p/30p/24p and 120p movies in the XAVC S format which supports higher 50 Mbit/s bit rate. Slow motion 120p capture is supported at 1280 x 720.

    Hi Guys ! Two things: What a great video production. You guys really delivered! You covered all the important stuff with nice fact of the matter and humorous ways! Thank you. I was really having issues picking up a second hand rx10 and finally gave up but your vid got me back into looking. I will have to look up if the rx10 II upgraded from avchd... thanks again!!

      +John Graboski The original RX10 actually had a firmware update that upgraded the camera to 50Mbps XAVC-S recording. The RX10 II added 4K, high frame rates and a better EVF.

    Another great review. It would have been nice with some low light examples at 1600+ iso, but other than that you always seem to cover all the important stuff. I love how you manage to stay objective no matter what you test, and not shamelessly promote your favorite camera/brand which some of the reviewers do (typically "well, this camera is good but it's no Nikon xxx). Keep it up!

    Great video as always guys.
    Dont get confused people, this may say 2.8 on the lens, but Full Frame equiv aperture is actually f7.5.
    But you you are town between this and a dSLR for example Canon 700D with 18-135mm f3.5-5.6, its Full Frame equiv is 28-216mm f5.6-8.9.
    So if your not thinking of buying other lenses then the RX10 is better in low light at the long end! Not so much at the wide end, but you are getting 24mm with RX10 instead of 28mm!

    Hi, great video. You're reviews are the best. At around 10:15 you guys mention the possible "smearing" in the RX10's video... since this was shot, I think Sony did a firmware upgrade replacing the RX10's avchd codec with xavc 50mbps. Did you test this yet, and did it effectively cure this smearing phenomenon? Also, do you think the RX100mkIII has identical video quality in a smaller package (since I don't care about the extended focal length, constant aperture or mic jack since I shoot video of interiors exclusively at widest focal length)?
    BTW, what wireless lavalier system do you use (and is it recorded in the camera or auxiliary recorder)? The audio is really excellent. Thanks.

    Thanks guys for your video! How responsive is the focus while shooting video? ...(say compared to the phase detection of the Nikon 1 V2)? Does it hunt with contrast detection or is it too quick to notice? Is it parfocal or at least gives a parfocal effect with fast continuous autofocus during a zoom? I just received the power zoom (good quality but not constant aperture without some exposure flicker unfortunately) for my V2 from your store at a TERRIFIC price - thanks for the quick shipment to Saskatoon! Wanting to do 4K quick bursts RAW video but wishing I had the RX10's zoom with that! Or a constant f/1.8 Sigma manual zoom lens upgrade with the adapter if PDAF works well with that to cover fast action.

    Hi ,
    Thanks for the review.
    Years and months after how do you compare this camera with other rivals in the same 1"-20MP Sensor - Bridge/Superzoom?
    Can you make a review comparing features, video and stills quality for:
    - Canon Powershot G3 X (it's a mark II is coming?)
    - Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 mark II / Leica V-Lux 5
    - Panasonic Lumix FZ2000/2500 (3000/3500 soon?)
    - Sony RX10 Mark IV (Mark V soon?)
    Do you know if other companies like Nikon will upgrade their offer with cameras in the same range?
    Like a Nikon Coolpix CX (1" sensor), or a coolpix B800 CX sensor?
    Other companies see to have give up for this segment : Fuji, Pentax, Olympus...
    Thanks.

  • @dermothoyne2393
    @dermothoyne2393 10 років тому

    My immediate reaction to the idea was a Sony R1 revival, but then started thinking a 'Roided Minolta A1/A2... It not only fits the 'Roided Minolta A1/A2 idea, but far exceeded what I was anticipating. Having a large bodied camera, housing automated + manual control, AND legit versatility of stills and video (though I too question, the AVCHD codec choice), really epitomes All-In-One. The price tag is UPP, but that Zeiss badging will do it.
    I wouldn't personally go for it, but I'm happy Sony made it... And yes, I do own an A1 :)

    Very useful, informative review.
    2 questions:
    1) was the sound recorded separately and synced in post?

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching!
      1) The sound was captured on a Sony UWP-130 wireless system and recorded directly into the RX10.
      2) It's possible, I'd love to see Sony add support for the XAVC-S codec, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

For photo shoots, i will have to stick to canon.

    Great review as usual, thanks. Here's my current problem. I became interested in the RX100 line a few months ago and bought a M2 just before the M3 came out. Of course, now I would rather have the M3. Many say just bite the bullet and upgrade to the M3, but I think the M2 will work OK for me as a pocket camera as I bounce around here in Hawaii. My main older camera is the Nikon D90 with a couple of lenses, including 70-300mm which is fine for the far off shots. Soooo, rather than upgrade the M2 to M3, I'm thinking the RX10 would be a better choice, especially for shots here on the farm (Kona Coffee Plantation). All the reviews I have read rave about it for amateurs like me. Big question now is - is Sony in the process of upgrading RX10 so I don't get stuck with last years model, or should I buy now? Thanks for responding ...

    great video as always guys - just feel sorry for you guys in that cold weather - I am glad you are not letting that affect you -
    So the question is what will Panasonic do ? if they come out with a 1 inch back-lit sensor then Sony will loose some customers as I expect Panasonic to be cheaper -
    For now the RX10 is the king in that small bridge camera market - minus the range - but 200mm is enough for lots of travel and family type shooting.

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  10 років тому

      The zoom ring is pretty sluggish, and you have rotate it too far to do it in one smooth motion. However, the zoom control on the rocker by the shutter is an alternative option, and it works much better for making large changes in focal length. Since I shot the video with manual focus, I used the rocker switch exclusively. It worked well.

Canon 70D is apparently a good video camera but has lower dynamic range, right?. How about Nikon D5200 or D7100. They have higher dynamic range, higher colour depth, and better overall picture quality. D5200 with a nice lens would be probably cheaper or equal to the price of Sony RX10. Would be nice to compare the video qualities. I wish the both rings were assignable. Many times there need to be continuous adjustment to focus while changing zoom. Do you know if the zoom / focus remote control that works with RX100 II also work with RX10?

    I sure wish you'd put an Xrite color sample test in the shot. Looks a bit magenta. Jordan looks too pink. No white snow. Re color grade to see the Sony

    Literally laughed so hard at that camera sex part. Haha. Cool video. Nice to have a bit of character in these kind of videos. Some camera dudes are so boring.

    Would this camera perform better than a Sony a6000 with a SEL 18-200 lens? I'm going abroad this summer on four continents and want the perfect compromise of portability/performance. Also, does the crop factor make this camera's 24mm performance closer to 50? Thanks!

      +Hunter McKinney Hey! At least on the second question I can give you an answer: No, the focal length of 24mm is already adjusted for the crop factor. So it really should have a the same field of view as any 24mm lens on a full frame body. (I think at some point in the video you could see that it said "8.8 - xy", which means that on the wide end the focal length of the lens is 8.8 mm. 8.8 x crop factor = full-frame-equivalent 24mm in easy words)

      It'll work brilliantly on the RX10!

    Hi guys! Nice review! There's just one thing I can not understand. Why everybody - including sony, and every reviewing specialist - talks about 1' sensor? Tech sheet: sensor size: 13.2mmx8.8mm. Even Jordan Drake talk says about sensor size, that it's about the 16mm film. The diagonal for 13.2x8.8 would be 15.8mm. One inch is 25.4mm. So the sensor of Rx10 would be 1:1.6 inch. (25.4/15.8=1.6). The diagonal for APS-c sensor is about 25mm. So 1' sensor would be greater then the Canon's APS-C sensorsize.

      I think you need to read up on sensor sizes - and math ;-)

      Lars Pallesen HI!
      Thanks! I'm familyar with sensor sizes...that was not the question. And
      I've found that already... and looks like, it's not about math (at least nothing wrong with my math... :)...
      But don't you agree, that these facts sould be cleard in such reviews? .... it's not perfectly honest thing from manufacturers to use these terms mixed?

    Nice review. Agree with some of the other comments. Please try and video more people - in this case, some interior shots, in an interview set up could have shown off the low light performance. I would specifically use and RX10 with an Atomos Ninja, so jokes aside, I would have liked to have seen whether the RX10s HDMI initiates record on the Ninja, and what the signal it outputs is. Regardless, of my selfish wishlist for your review - a massive thanks for hauling your asses out in to the cold to film this ; )
