Shaolin Monks spans the events of Mortal Kombat II, starting with the aftermath of the first Mortal Kombat. The battle rages furiously on Shang Tsung's island fortress in the Lost Sea, as the sorcerer watches the fighters his soldiers to protect Earthrealm. The Earthrealm's Shaolin monk Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung, and the warrior Goro comes to his defense. With Goro distracting everyone else, Shang Tsung creates a portal to Outworld and retreats. Thunder god Raiden appears afterwards and warns the remaining fighters to get off the island palace because it is collapsing into the sea. Everyone, except Liu Kang and Kung Lao, evacuates and escape back to the Wu Shi Academy. Liu Kang and Kung Lao, however, have to fight their way to another portal to get to Wu Shi Academy. Upon arrival, Raiden awards his warriors for saving Earthrealm. However, Baraka and the Tarkatan attack the Wu Shi Academy. Although the Tarkatans are defeated, Baraka captures Sonya Blade. Raiden confirms that Shang Tsung is trying to lure Liu Kang and his allies to Outworld where he can order his henchmen to attack them and bide his time for power.
We recorded this game on the PS2 emulator and put it on max settings. The game ran smooth and looked great for such an old game. This is honestly one of the best Mortal Kombat games ever made in our opinion, and we are deeply disappointed that they never continued the series. It's a wonderful action adventure game and without question the best Mortal Kombat spin off game. As always we used relevant gameplay, important dialogue and all cutscenes to create a fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

This game is a masterpiece. I remember all reviewers were waiting to hate on this game and wanted to see it fail, but it got a positive reception and was successful commercially. Take that IGN. We need a sequel big time.

this mk game is the funniest and of course the most nostalgic - the rabbit in the hat fatality kills me, especially at the end of the fatality when it just zooms in to the rabbits face
This and the Konquest mode in MK: Deception with Shujinko and Onaga were hands down my favorite storylines of all of the games. The opening scene where they're all fighting in the beginning of this gets me so hyped! When I first played this I found it hard af going against Inferno Scorpion and when I finally defeated him it was so satisfying and the entire battle was fun. I wish they made more like this, I always wanted to play Sub-Zero's journey in this game.
Sub-Zero does in fact have his own game, but I've read that that game sucked. (It's on N64 as well.)

I remember growing up spending so many hours playing this game on PS2. I absolutely loved this style. I remember wishing so hard they'd make sequels to this.
What I really love is most fighting moves you see in the opening scene could actually be replicated in-game. I also enjoyed looking for secret combos, secret fatalities, and glitches. Lol

I had to go looking through my house to find the dusty disk to remember the name and this used to be my childhood and I would always get scared of the cut scenes and deaths but I was into it, and the small old tv I hooked my old xbox to and the big fat xbox controller with would always hurt my hands when I tried to do the "test your might" this is the nostalgia I love. ty for this video

hands down my fav Mortal Kombat game, to have control of 4 of the main beloved characters and their abilities and fatalities and to move around in a 3-d environment and be able to battle in familiar lairs and stages is what made this a one of a kind game, not to mention that you can unlock MK2 and all it's glory is playable in this game. the only thing that would've made this game unbeatable is if they had made Sonja, Kitana, Mileena, Reptile and Raiden playable in the game like Sub-Zero and Scorpion were if unlocked, you can play as some of the other characters in pvp mode but would've been cool if the others were playable.
Yeah I remember once I figured out the code for MK2 unlock I stopped playing Shaolin Monks to relive the arcade game! I remember it also came with the Suffering II demo!
First MK game I played and the best of them all, really wish a sequel :3.
