Thank you for the reaction so much! 💐Film Kai is the first ever in kpop and the second ever in the world kind of teaser for an album with a separate concept, choreo and story behind each snippet of the songs on the album. Actually, the Film has a story line: it's the story of Kai as an artist as it's his debut as a soloist. In the first piece Kai's alone dreaming of his future on stage, speculating, in the second - he's performing but nobody pays attention, then we see how he falls onto the ground - the struggle he had on his way to the stage and how it changed him forever (his beautiful clothes will never be this crispy clean as before the fall), in the final scene we see him on stage, in the center with 8 other men in the inner circle (Kai's position in EXO - Center, there are 9 members in total). The very end suggests that it's not just Kai's story but a cycle in his head that repeats itself before every performance (planning, speculation > self doubt > overcoming hardships > stage performance). Kai's solo was very expensive because Kai, being THE perfectionist he is, put his own money into his solo debut to up the budget his label gave him... So, the visual effects, different choreos, production... And he's Gucci Global Ambassador, so the whole shebang with his wardrobe - Gucci spoiling their best boy 😍

I’d check out the dance practices for Reason and Mmmh to really see the choreography for both. It’s so good. I See You is a dance performance by him where you can really see his formal ballet training. Lastly there’s Peaches which was his most recent album and title track. He said he didn't have enough time for a film:kai on this one but he did came up with the Prologue film Vanilla which is also part of his second album songs. Also Mmmh, Reason and Peaches has dance practices that are awesome to watch.. we exols dont mind long videos too.. like marathon bec EXO has huge content. So yeah, hope you dive deeper into EXO. 💗

Kai's "Film: Kai," as you discovered, is a sort of teaser/sample of all the songs on Kai's solo debut album, named Kai, which came out in 2020. (The only song that has an MV is "Mmmh" -- the rest of the clips in his film were purely created for that teaser video. To understand what is happening in his "Film: Kai" and "Mmmh" MV, you have to first understand EXO's concept. As a member of an SM group, it shouldn't be a surprise that Kai is such a great singer and performer. As you are discovering, you can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills. All of SM's artists were first chosen for their visuals, vocals and/or dance skills, and even the rappers get intense training as vocalists. That is why SM is one of the largest and most influential entertainment companies in Korea and around the world, which is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. And EXO is a group that is a perfect example of that. Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in someway to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 10+ years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. The one thing you have to keep in mind with all of EXO's MVs, and I really mean all of them -- including their sub-sub-unit MVs and a majority of the member's solo MVs. And because Baekhyun and Kai are involved, even SuperM's storyline -- is that they are all connected and they all tell a little more of EXO's story. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet EXO and they came to Earth with superpowers on a mission to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one if not all of them using their powers. So, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years, we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. Kai's EXO superpower is teleportation, so what you see throughout his "Mmmh" MV and in some of the scenes in his teaser film, is him teleporting. For example, why you see Kai move a fraction of a frame in the scene in "Mmmh" when his backup dancers "disappeared," is because they didn't disappear. Kai was the one that moved when he teleported from another time or place at that moment. In other words, he was a fraction of a second off on purpose to show that he was the one moving as he teleported, not the dancers. With what I know about EXO's storyline, nothing is ever random, and even the most minute of details have been designed to give clues and hints within EXO's story. So, even the subtle little details that you might overlook -- such as placing Kai in that shot a fraction of a second off -- could actually be done intentionally. And, I think, at the very end scene of "Mmmh", what you are seeing is SM connecting Kai's solo storyline to EXO's storyline. You see D.O.'s power of earth (dirt) which gives him super strength/force and Xiumin's power to control snow/ice/frost being used. You also see what I think is the emergence of a pyramid, which represents Kai and his superpower -- as part of EXOs storyline, all the members have a symbol that represents them. A pyramid is Kai's symbol and when you see a pyramid within EXO's storyline it represents something to do with Kai. I also find it interesting that Xiumin returned from the military about a month before this MV was released, and D.O. just returned from the military shortly after its release, so the end scene in "Mmmh" may be SM's way of connecting the events of this MV to D.O.'s and Xiumin's future solo work as well. If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's videos you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline. Kai is also a member of SuperM, which is the industry's very first Supergroup. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect. For example, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, you see Kai being chased by or being aided by drones as he tried to scale a building, in his attempt to stop the Red Force. So, I think the scene in "Mmmh," where you see him looking at the drones hovering around him, has something to do with connections between Kai's solo storyline and SuperM/EXO's MVs. And, the scenes during Kai's "Amnesia" snippet and as it transitions to "Mmmh" in the Film are probably part of SM's train theme which connects a majority of its artists to the whole SM Universe. The train we see Kai standing in front of could possibly be the train that Baekhyun is on in his solo "Bambi" MV. And the subway train platform we see during "Mmmh" could be connected to SuperM's "100" MV storyline, SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV storyline, aespa's "Black Mamba" MV storyline, and SHINee Key's solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV storyline, as well as EXO's "Love Me Right" MV storyline and EXO-CBX's "Horololo" MV storyline, etc. Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in Kai's MV is him traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this MV. There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these videos is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. (As we see introduced in EXO's "Obsession" MV.) So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai. And that eye we see in "Mmmh", although I am not sure what it means yet, I think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and aespa's "Savage" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. (Lay is the Chinese member of EXO.) The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. (Everything SM does is part of one giant storyline like a huge graphic novel or mystery movie series.) Also notice how the lights during "Ride or Die" made EXO's Hexagon symbol. All of the EXO members first solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. D.O.'s MV for his solo debut song "Rose" shows him using his power of force, Baekhyun's debut album City Lights and MV "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in his "Mmmh" MV. As the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well. Even in their solo work, everything EXO does is connected to their concept and storyline as members of EXO. :D Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order. So, we fans have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members of EXO/SuperM are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And the story isn't just limited to their MVs, but it extends to everything EXO is involved in, including teaser videos, live performances, concert VCRs and even a majority of their choreography. As you can see, EXO's and SM's Universe is extremely complicated and complex, and even the most expert of fans, has trouble following the storyline. The thing is, none of us really know exactly what is happening in the story, it's all just fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed or denied any of our theories and they have left it completely up to fans to figure out what is happening and to create the story. (We only hope that someday SM will release the book or produce a movie that will explain the whole story, so we will know whether any part of our theories were correct.) If you want to see and hear the full versions of some of these songs, you should look up some of his live performances. As part of his promotions for his album he also performed several of these songs, such as "Mmmh", "Reason" and "Ride or Die," live. He also has a dance practice videos for "Mmmh" and Reason" that you should check out.
Kai spent more than a year working on his self-titled solo debut mini album, which he did all while also promoting nonstop as a member of EXO and SuperM. He actually put his own money into this project to increase the budget in order to make sure the quality met his expectations. The mini album contains 6 tracks and, as you just heard, each song is expertly designed to reflect Kai's style as an artist. (He released his second solo album with it's title track "Peaches" MV, last year.) If you like Kai's dancing you have to check out his dance practice videos. You are going to be even more blown away when you see the full choreography. As the main dancer of EXO, Kai is literally one of the top two best dancers in Kpop. And that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the the industry as a whole. (Taemin from SHINee -- who happens to be Kai's best friend since trainee days, and is a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) There is literally no one better when it comes to dance than Kai and Taemin. Fun fact: Highlight medelies for SM artist's solo albums first became a thing with SHINee's Taemin's "Press It highlight melody" video in 2016, which was a video showing Taemin performing a snippet of every song on his Press It album. (Like everything SHINee does, Taemin was the first to promote his album giving people a sample of every song on the album, kicking off a trend.) You could also say it's similar to NCT's track videos that they have been releasing with their albums more recently. Kai's love for dance started with jazz and ballet. From a young age, he began training to become a ballet dancer. So he learned form and technique first before any other style of dance. That's why I think you can see such precision in his dancing. As a child, he fell in love with dancing after seeing the Nutcracker and he told his parents that he wanted to do that. So, his whole foundation with dance began with ballet. He says, that if he hadn't been bribed by his father to audition for SM Entertainment, and if he hadn't become a Kpop star, he probably would be a professional ballarino today. Kai became a trainee with SM when he was about 12 -- he debuted as a member of EXO when he was around 18 -- so he has been honing his skills and dedicating himself to become one of the best in the industry for years. And now, at 28, he has literally been recognized as one of the best of the best. Kai is a fashion icon and he is highly sought after by some of he biggest names and brands in fashion to be their model and brand ambassador, etc. He is also considered one of the sexiest Kpop idols, and he is known for his super sexy onstage personality. However, when not on stage he is the complete opposite of what you see here. He is actually kind of shy and innocent and he blushes when you compliment him for his looks or his performance.
My favorite on this album is Reason and I think that's because it feels like a slightly tame version of the kind of song NCT127 would do. 127 is experimental and can do (and does) so many genres. Kai is so amazing. Can't take my eyes off him.
The post-MV scene in Mmmh was a nod to upcoming solo albums for EXO's DO (released last year) and Xiumin (due this month I think). If you want slow sexy music, I'd recommend Baekhyun's UN Village and Bambi (he's the other EXO member in SuperM, with all the insane vocals).

I also find it interesting that Xiumin returned from the military about a month before this MV was released, and D.O. just returned from the military shortly after its release, so the end scene in "Mmmh" may be SM's way of connecting the events of this MV to D.O.'s and Xiumin's future solo work as well.
If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's videos you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline.
Kai is also a member of SuperM, which is the industry's very first Supergroup. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect.
For example, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, you see Kai being chased by or being aided by drones as he tried to scale a building, in his attempt to stop the Red Force. So, I think the scene in "Mmmh," where you see him looking at the drones hovering around him, has something to do with connections between Kai's solo storyline and SuperM/EXO's MVs.
And, the scenes during Kai's "Amnesia" snippet and as it transitions to "Mmmh" in the Film are probably part of SM's train theme which connects a majority of its artists to the whole SM Universe. The train we see Kai standing in front of could possibly be the train that Baekhyun is on in his solo "Bambi" MV. And the subway train platform we see during "Mmmh" could be connected to SuperM's "100" MV storyline, SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV storyline, aespa's "Black Mamba" MV storyline, and SHINee Key's solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV storyline, as well as EXO's "Love Me Right" MV storyline and EXO-CBX's "Horololo" MV storyline, etc.
Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in Kai's MV is him traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this MV.
There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these videos is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. (As we see introduced in EXO's "Obsession" MV.) So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai.
And that eye we see in "Mmmh", although I am not sure what it means yet, I think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and aespa's "Savage" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. (Lay is the Chinese member of EXO.) The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. (Everything SM does is part of one giant storyline like a huge graphic novel or mystery movie series.)
Also notice how the lights during "Ride or Die" made EXO's Hexagon symbol.
All of the EXO members first solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. D.O.'s MV for his solo debut song "Rose" shows him using his power of force, Baekhyun's debut album City Lights and MV "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in his "Mmmh" MV. As the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well. Even in their solo work, everything EXO does is connected to their concept and storyline as members of EXO. :D
Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order. So, we fans have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members of EXO/SuperM are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And the story isn't just limited to their MVs, but it extends to everything EXO is involved in, including teaser videos, live performances, concert VCRs and even a majority of their choreography.
As you can see, EXO's and SM's Universe is extremely complicated and complex, and even the most expert of fans, has trouble following the storyline. The thing is, none of us really know exactly what is happening in the story, it's all just fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed or denied any of our theories and they have left it completely up to fans to figure out what is happening and to create the story. (We only hope that someday SM will release the book or produce a movie that will explain the whole story, so we will know whether any part of our theories were correct.)
If you want to see and hear the full versions of some of these songs, you should look up some of his live performances. As part of his promotions for his album he also performed several of these songs, such as "Mmmh", "Reason" and "Ride or Die," live. He also has a dance practice videos for "Mmmh" and Reason" that you should check out.
Kai spent more than a year working on his self-titled solo debut mini album, which he did all while also promoting nonstop as a member of EXO and SuperM. He actually put his own money into this project to increase the budget in order to make sure the quality met his expectations. The mini album contains 6 tracks and, as you just heard, each song is expertly designed to reflect Kai's style as an artist. (He released his second solo album with it's title track "Peaches" MV, last year.)

As the main dancer of EXO, Kai is literally one of the top two best dancers in Kpop. And that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the the industry as a whole. (Taemin from SHINee -- who happens to be Kai's best friend since trainee days, and is a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) There is literally no one better when it comes to dance than Kai and Taemin.
Fun fact: Highlight medelies for SM artist's solo albums first became a thing with SHINee's Taemin's "Press It highlight melody" video in 2016, which was a video showing Taemin performing a snippet of every song on his Press It album. (Like everything SHINee does, Taemin was the first to promote his album giving people a sample of every song on the album, kicking off a trend.) You could also say it's similar to NCT's track videos that they have been releasing with their albums more recently.
Kai's love for dance started with jazz and ballet. From a young age, he began training to become a ballet dancer. So he learned form and technique first before any other style of dance. That's why I think you can see such precision in his dancing. As a child, he fell in love with dancing after seeing the Nutcracker and he told his parents that he wanted to do that. So, his whole foundation with dance began with ballet. He says, that if he hadn't been bribed by his father to audition for SM Entertainment, and if he hadn't become a Kpop star, he probably would be a professional ballarino today.
Kai became a trainee with SM when he was about 12 -- he debuted as a member of EXO when he was around 18 -- so he has been honing his skills and dedicating himself to become one of the best in the industry for years. And now, at 28, he has literally been recognized as one of the best of the best.
Kai is a fashion icon and he is highly sought after by some of he biggest names and brands in fashion to be their model and brand ambassador, etc. He is also considered one of the sexiest Kpop idols, and he is known for his super sexy onstage personality. However, when not on stage he is the complete opposite of what you see here. He is actually kind of shy and innocent and he blushes when you compliment him for his looks or his performance.
My favorite on this album is Reason and I think that's because it feels like a slightly tame version of the kind of song NCT127 would do. 127 is experimental and can do (and does) so many genres. Kai is so amazing. Can't take my eyes off him.

The post-MV scene in Mmmh was a nod to upcoming solo albums for EXO's DO (released last year) and Xiumin (due this month I think). If you want slow sexy music, I'd recommend Baekhyun's UN Village and Bambi (he's the other EXO member in SuperM, with all the insane vocals).
