We are currently using these throughout a 500 year old cottage that can’t have the wall touch. Such a great idea. Still find it funny my old man is a old time spark and still doesn’t get it hahah
Hey guys, I love these switches and use them regularly. Unfortunately, I did discover a limitation. I needed to create an intermediate position on a lighting circuit that shared a back box with another lighting circuit (seperate two way switching for upstairs and downstairs hall lights). The existing wiring was three plate, and the two (and three) gang receiver switches 'common' the line internally (L in, L1, L2, L3 out). In order to get the intermediate and two sets of two way to work, I had to send the downstairs switched line back up to my receiver switch position using a core of the original strapper cable with two gang wireless switch over the existing downstairs switch point. This meant the downstairs light was now being supplied by the upstairs circuit line. So at this point I have created a situation, A shared switched line crossing to another circuits Neutral. The only way I could correct this was to combine bot circuits before the OCPD.
Thanks for the feedback Lee - and the great solution to a real life problem - We bet a bit of head scratching went on when you discovered the challenge!
I love the Quinetic range. I have installed the versions with the controllers that go next to the light fitting. I now have a client that wants his two way circuit made into three way, how is that achieved? Do we install the switch with the controller in the first point then cable out the other switch and add two Qinetic switches?
Can this switch be used if you want a third switch. I have one switch at the bottom and one at the top of the stairs but want another switch next to the bedroom door.
Like the look of these Quinetic switches but i have a double switch socket in the downstairs hallway that operates the downstairs with one switch and the upstairs with the other switch. But upstairs there's a single rocker switch that only operates the upstairs light. Would it be possible to install a Quinetic switch upstairs that would operate both the upstairs light and the downstairs light and one downstairs that would operate the downstairs light and the upstairs light. Not to switch both on at the same time though.
Hi, Very nice Can you please share the name/place where I can buy this? I looked it to it and found few but are not same like the one you presented. Need the one exactly like yours. Thank you for your guidance.
Love these - already got four applications for quinetic switches in my house: 1) Two way dimmer switch so that I can dim lights in a room with a door at each end (standard two way only lets you have one dimmer). 2) Added a "wall lighting circuit" in lounge so that I can turn on either ceiling or table lamps from switch by door. 3) Added switch outside bathroom as redesign left pull switch dangling behind heated towel rail. 4) the standard one where you need a switch in a different place due to a room rearrangement.
I would like to use one of these switches and connect it to two receivers? Use case is an indoor switch to switch on outdoor lights together, some on the outside of the garage, and some on the outside of the house. I know you can have multiple switches to one receiver, but can you have one receiver to multiple switches? Couldn't find anything on their web site about it.
A rather sensible R&D from the previous inventions...👍👍 A quick question, is it possible for a single remote switch be paired to more than one receiver base unit i.e one(1) master Remote Switch controlling two(2) Receiver base unit simultaneously??🤔
Hi, I have 2x2ways switches and I want to replace only one of them with a wireless one. So I'd keep the switch upstairs as it stands while replacing the one downstairs. Would this be possible?
Brilliant I have a 3 gang switch which feeds to 2 ceiling lights and under cabinet lights. How can I use this to make 1 ceiling light a two way so I can light the room up when I enter via the rear door?
Brilliant concept which I would like to employ. I have a 3 gang switch on a 2 plate configuration. This switch serves 2 ceiling and under cupboard lights. I would like to set up this type so that we can enter the house via the rear and use the fob to turn the kitchen light on as we get near the door. The switch as you can imagine is crammed with cable any suggestions.
The only hard task is convincing the customer to accept that some of the switches in their home (the ones with the receiver) have to be those bizarre square paddles that don't match with the rest of their standard grid switches? Wouldn't it be also great if they made sender units (in addition to receiver units), so you could send switching signals from other "analog" devices - for example pair timers/programmers with quinetic receivers in shops, schools and offices and allow for scheduling of the on/off times but also provide manual control from light switches for tasks performed during off times or days off etc. And I'd also like to be able to pair one switch with multiple quinetic grids simultaneously (one master switch for the entire floor/building in addition to the usual number separate switches)
You can’t have a kinetically powered sender unit via a conventional switch and a sender unit. You could have one that battery or mains powered, but that’s not what kinetic switches are, so not their USP.
Love the video. Great presentation. Can you get similar with built in receiver for thin light switch built into door frame? Or could you use the two cables to the light switch to wire to receiver and then blanking plate over (I don't actually need that light switch)? Advice would be welcome.
I’ve got a customer that wants to use a quinetic switch to operate garden lights from his shed offfice, but he also wants to be able to switch them with his existing ‘old fashioned’ switch in his kitchen.. does anyone know if this is possible? Tried contacting quinetic directly but no joy.
You’d probably have to replace the old switch with a quinetic one also - otherwise the old switch would disconnect the power to the receiver or face trek from the office to switch on the old switch.
@@efixx thanks for helping! Would that still be the case if the existing switch was wired to the load side of the receiver or directly into the first light fitting along with load from the quinetic switch. It would be powered from a separate source.
Hey Gary, have you come across a gadget called Walabot in wall imager, seems it's only reliable for dry wall though and not so good for concrete and plaster.
Hi Guys, How do I convert my bedroom into a hotel-style light system. At the moment, I have a light switch that turns the main bedroom light on and 2 bedside lamps are plugged into the mains. I want a 2 gang light switch (one for the main light and the other for the bedside lamps). I also want an individual switch for each bedside lamp near them.
Why does this refuse to work with a 5ft fluorescent tube? I then changed it for a led tube and no joy but I guess this may be down to the light fitting. Works fine when tested with a corn led bulb!
@@craigpatterson4269 it must need to store the energy, I struggle to believe one operation of a switch can generate enough electricity to send that signal. Unless it's got a really long throw maybe.
Can you demo how you would use this quinetic switch in an existing 2 way switch arrangement (adding a third switch) with a diagram to make it clear. Lee below had to do something similar but i would like to see one of your videos showing this.
Hi there, Love your videos Can you please post a video with 2way 2gang quinetic switch? I love the idea, I want to use it however I have with my current 2 way 2gang switch a web of cables going in it
What happens when the switch is already 2 way and you're adding this as a third switch? Or the switch is a 2 or 3 gang switch or even a 2 or 3 gang 2 way switch?
If you have 2 way switching already you can introduce this switch (Kinetic) at position one and disconnect the 3 core to the other 2 way switch then at position 2 introduce a kinetic switch. You then can add more kinetic switches as you like to this switching arrangement.
They ain’t cheap though - 39 quid each in tlc so minimum of nearly 80 to make a two way work. Still cheaper than hardwiring labour though .Anyone seen them at a better price ?
