This is really cool! We bought a farm several years ago and have found a bunch of old rusty pieces. I would have never thought of using them this way. Thank you so much for sharing! I love it!
Chris, great fun watching you dye all these different pieces. I myself, do a ton of coffee staining and LOVE rust rollups in fabrics!! But beware! Make sure your tetanus shot is UP to DATE!! Some of your pieces looked mighty sharp! TFS!
I did some eco-dying this spring for the 1st time and loved it. I laid papers flat with flowers and leaves in-between each page and bound it all between 2 pieces of wood then boiled away. I added vinegar to help "set" the colors. The papers came out relatively flat, so they make great little journals. Now that I've seen your rolled up method I really want to try it for collage papers! Now that it's fall I might have some dried up josteberries outside that I can use. I'm excited to try your method with rolled up papers and fabric plus some rusted metal! Yay I have all this stuff at home! I might try some cut up avocados too ;) Are you using regular tea bags? Oh I also found out recently that adding essential oil like tea tree (antimicrobial) keeps the dyes from getting moldy but I haven't tried it.
Sounds great, Julie. It's such a fun experiment eco dying because you never know what the results will be. I hope the berries give it a lovely colour! Yes, I use black tea bags. I find if I freeze my dyes they don't get moldy. Thanks for sharing!😊

Haha, I get rusty objects wherever I can scrounge them up, so you never know what I'll find! Yes, staining is addicting, isn't it?
