    Thank you so much for the demonstration on natural flower prints on fabric. Your results are stunning. I am from India, heading an NGO helping the underprivileged women in the community. Teaching this to the women will help them a lot for earning their money. Can you please explain how you pre treat the fabric, as well how you do a dye work after the eco print. Thank you once again, God Bless you.

      In the past I have placed my fabrics in vinegar to soak overnight, but ecoprinting generally involves a diluted soy milk with a three turn saturation. Letting the fabric soak over night for three consecutive nights, taking it out for a solid wringing between soaks. It is then ready for the wooden hammer and board. I hope this helps and that your endeavors in India are productive. ❤

    Ohhh Thank you! thank you! thank you! How ABSOLUTELY LOVELY! I’m new to eco printing. I attempted it years ago after following some rather poor instructions. (Or lack of)
    I had no idea what a mordant was and was told to steam in vinegar? After hours of collecting lovely wildflowers I got one single print...that looked like someone stepped on a rusty spider. The cloth itself looked like it molded. I was disheartened to say the least.
    You have given such thorough instructions, I feel inspired again! In fact, It’s 3am, i can’t sleep and am resisting the urge to get printing! 😂
    I have almost EVERYTHING you’re using! Even the exact steamer and even FLOWERS! (I live in the mountain desert of NM, so flowers are rare) This year my 4 o clock perineal bushes went crazy and even bloomed new bushes in every crack nook and cranny! I literally have thousands of luscious bright hot pink flowers (my 4 o clock) and fields of country daisies (I think that’s what they are, they’re very similar to what you’re using)
    I have NO MORDANT. Ferrous sulfate sounds SO familiar. I feel like i have some around here somewhere? Idk if I’m overtired or it was prescribed to me for something? Im not sure how the mordant process even works. I’m getting ready to watch the links you suggested. Perhaps I can find something.🤞
    Can you please tell me how the hot pinkish red 4oclocks print. They’re so lovely and vibrant when they bloom, but instantly turn black when they fall off and die. I’m not sure how to place them either? They’re similar to a morning glory in that you can’t spread out petals and press. Also.. I have purple...weeds (although I’ve been told it might be Milo) that are so lovely. Does purple work as well? Sorry so long! You’ve just really inspired me! After my initial disappointment & all these years I thought I’d never try it again. I’m a biologist/zoologist environmentalist and artist. I want to eco print so badly for a botanical junk journal I’m creating! You’ve given me both the tools and knowledge and inspired my heart again! 🙏🏼!

    • @thebarefootdyer
      @thebarefootdyer  3 роки тому +1

      Hi!! So exciting!! Sadly, vinegar is suggested as a mordant quite often online and it does absolutely nothing to help the dye bind onto fiber.
      I’ve never worked with 4 o’clocks before but many pink flowers don’t print very well. It’s worth trying once you have your fiber properly mordanted.
      I hope that you enjoy your printing projects! 💗

      I would love to know your secret because I have only been doing this for 2 1/2 years and I have Eco printed on like 30 or 40 different fabrics and I still have only got four of them to work out with clear Eco prints. I’m trying to figure out what am I doing wrong am I doing something wrong during scouring Mantin, but the thing is I follow all the scouring and more and I still can’t get it to work. I did find some things that I was doing wrong during the steaming process. I found quite a few things I was doing wrong, but even with fixing that I still can’t get clear prints there’s something wrong or there’s some secret that I don’t know about because I just can’t get it to work and it really upsets me because I’ve put so much time and energy and money into this craft this craft craft.

    You might discuss this in another video, but what would you recommend for pre-treatment of the fabric to encourage a strong bond between fabric and dye? Natural vs chemical pre-treatments...? Also, do the results vary depending upon the fabric choices? I really liked the effect of the smaller piece of bamboo silk, but am wondering if the effect would be similar if using cotton, upcycled denim, etc...?
