Star Fox: Route 1 Full Game

- I got to thinking the other day, the original reason that I applied for Director status was because I thought it removed the 100 MB cap. Boy was I wrong, and with the exception of my Super Metroid video, I haven't made any use of my director status.
So I had to find a use. Since I was in a Star Fox mood, I decided to make a full run through Star Fox SNES on route 1. I know it's easy, but it's the shortest, and one of the best routes to show off on.
I looked over it time and time again, and I narrowed a few mistakes. First off, I missed the twin laser in stage 2. I remember almost starting over when I did that. In stage 3, I flew into a wall during the boss fight, dropping my shield. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
Please excuse the quality, it's a little worse then usuall, had to reduce the quality a bit to stay in the 100 MB cap. Even in WMA format, the quality I shot it in still came to 170 MB.
I love how the fact the game is running so fast it doesn't even get to finish the "Scramble" cutscene before beginning the stage.
I remember when I turned 7 and the PS1 had just come out. All I wanted was one for christmas and instead I got a SNES with a copy of Super Mario Land, Mario Kart and this. Some of the best moments of my gaming life came from that time, the simplicity of the games is what makes them so good. I miss games like this!
Thank You for posting that. The musical score and Falco's awesome end mission dialog brought me back to the good old days! I think I might head over to ebay and place an order.
What a trip! Awsome StarFox play. My personal favorite on the SNES. Thanks for posting!!!
I long for this to be released on the Wii VC.
I remember the background to this level always mystified me about space! I always wondered 'what is out there?' and 'what is that thing in the upper left side of the screen?' even as a little kid! It got me so interested into space! Thank you SNES for raising me! OH, and mom and dad too! :P
I beat this game back in 1993, when I was only 7 years old! Wow, this brings back some great memories. Thank you
I remember spending hours on this game when it 1st came out. The music + graphics + game play = awesome. I got this game along with Zelda: A link to the past when I 1st got my Super Nintendo new way back then.
WOW this brings back memories. I was 14 when this came out! and I played it too Death!this was when SegaCd was out and 3-d was becoming popular and nintendo wanted to show they could do it on cartiage. And for some reson I though falcor said "we be be jammn'" Thx for upload!
ah the memories, the intro with the carrier approaching and when we heard the first boss approaching, thanks for uploading the full route :)
What pisses me off is that this is the only project the composer for this game - Hajime Hirasawa - ever worked on - before forming his own company and becoming CEO - never to look back. It's a damn shame because the music in this game is a work of art.
Great video, by the way. Awesome to see another fan of the series who can play well. Mistakes aside, you fly better than I do. Your reaction time is a biiit too fast in certain parts, most noticeably when you were pulling up coming out of that final arch on Corneria, but hell, everyone does that every once in a while. All-in-all, ace.
This brought back some great memories!!! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting. I'm planning on getting an used SNES this Xmas so I can play this game.
Man you are very good at this game! I played this back in 1992 when I was in 2nd grade and I feel I am God if I can get all of my comrades thru first stage (they were all heavily damaged, at my best), but then they all died in 2nd stage and I couldn't get any further too :P
Thank You, this brought back memories. I haven't seen those later stages since I was still a single-digit age.
I've always loved that part at 6:58 where you get out of hyperspace and then the awesome background theme starts with one of my fav levels.
In 1993, polygons in video games were cool! StarFox is one of the best games ever.
One of the best classics at its best!
When this game came out i was on it 24/7 going through all the lvls and finding the 2 secrets xD. Hard to believe its has been along time i have heard the music or seen the graphics for this!
I remember playing this game when it came out. It was awesome then as it still is now.
man this was kickass music back in the mid 90's. still like it
Indeed. The SuperFX2 chip was only included on one released game, and that was Stunt Race FX. Since ZSNES was built around emulating the actual console and not the included hardware on the game itself, it acted very erratically in the older versions on both of them. The SuperFX2 chip was still a bit experimental, and never found fruition as the SNES was overtaken by the next gen consoles, a la N64.
Ba dab uh dub da ba!
Do do da dabbah.
I loved it!! One of my favourites! Amazing music
when i heard space armada on brawl i literly shed a tear and when my lil bros said 'whats wrong' i say 'old memories'
i did the same thing you did except for the video part. i did all of the first level and i got 100% on every stage. that is pretty epic. a video of the first level, all stages 100%.
All the Starfox games have had impressive graphics for their time, with the exception of Assault and Command, though for the DS i guess Command isn't all that bad. Regardless what they look like, this is one of the greatest video game series in history.
Ah, this video brings back some good memories.
My dad used to be able to get to the 2nd to last boss on either this or route 3.
OMFG!!! thats it, ive got a serious childhood backflash right now :D :D :D
amazing times, good best awesome times man!!! i think i was in second grade when this came out lol!!!
I have no idea why,but watching this game makes it feel more realistic
The music in this game at times is mythically good. Pwns any other video game music I've ever heard. Especially the piece that plays right at the beginning, while going into the Space Armada base and going into Andross' base on Venom.
This video is sped up, right? My Starfox copy runs a lot slower compared to this on my SNES Jr.!
Mine too ran slower!
edit: come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that the sounds the other pilots made were exactly at that speed.
Strange.
Starfox tends to run with a lot of slowdown on the SNES. Because this is on an emulator, it can run the game faster without much strain on the computer.
From what I hear, the only way to get Starfox to run at full speed normally is to overclock the SNES.
This is just what I've heard, so I may be wrong...
Paratelic Actually, the game is supposed to run like that. It would be impossible for a kid to complete it with the speed from the video.
No originally is was supposed to run at the speed we see here. The only reason it didn’t us because the super FX chip was only half as fast as it was supposed to be
@@gothivore277
The graphics get way ahead of sound queues, though.
For example,
16:29
The music intro is still going when the stage starts and the player gets control.
19:58
The _face_ inhaling completes before the inhaling sound completes.
It looks like the FX chip worked as tested, and they engineered the game to make the speed acceptable. The emulator rushes it somehow.
Same here...almost 24/7 when I was younger...ah, those were the days, lol
Best voice acting in ANY game.
When I played this at my elementary school, I was taught that the barrel roll didn't work, and yet I was able to beat the Level 1 path. Shows how wrong I was. On the other hand, this would make a good challenge: Beat Starfox without barrel rolling once!
Man, I loved this game. Best I ever did was straight 100%s on route 3 (never accomplished that on route 2 though; I practiced 3 so much that 2 was harder).
Anyway, well done.
today was my first time playing this game and now i am hooked ,
Corneria... one of the best Video Game Music ever made!
well I have and I have 4 words for it "have to play it" This is one of my favs on the Snes no it is
I remember when I saw this game for the very first time at the store, and thought the graphics were awesome, and that they couldn't get any better. How naive:) Still, they were awesome for the time.
Didn't know that. Yeah, this is some of the best game music of all time.
omg this brings bk memories!! curse u uncle for not looking after the snes then selling all the games!!!ToT
this and mystical ninja were ma fav games on the snes. im luvin the giberish! blerubluabluble lol xD
I use to love this game back in the 1990s
these graphics are SO GOOD.
this is what the next starfox game should be, i dont want to run around on the ground with a few laser guns, i wanna fly my freaking arwing! to heck with assault and adventure, this and starfox 64 are the only ones that got it right
Kind of sounds like peppy is saying "Negeneh, you bird brain!"
Man I love this game, and the music quite complements it.
@ionthegravity the golden age of Nintendo? HELL YES, i remember i was about 11 years old when this game came out and i was addicted
ok you know the line of rocks at 4:50? you need to get really close to them and then shoot the orange one. rinse and repeat twice, then you'll eventually see a rock with a face on it on the lower left ofthe screen, blast the crap out of it as if your life depended on it and then fly through the swilrly looking thing after it blows up. youre there
oh man i reamember this game!!!!!!! i was 4-5 year old kid. wow cool old memories. i thout that game had the best graphichs, it looked sooo real back then
00:41, General Pepper looks so badass!
i used to love playing this when i was a kid
This brings back memories.......
The dancing insector. GAve me the most trouble. the rest of the bosses on Route 1 gave me really no problem even the final boss. because the level at the end wrecked my shields.
I think I still own this game, but no SNES. Nice play through, even though everything went faster than normal.
EPIC!!!! tHX FOR POSTING....
That game is awesome! Nice post.
this game was my favorite. aaaaaaaaaaahh. memories.
i don't have SNES anymore.
I could never get to Venom on routes 2 and 3. I wonder if I could still beat it now, though. I was still 11 when I first got that game. I do agree, one of the best SNES games ever.
See? I love old school games so much more than today's games. You could just pop in your big ugly grey cartridge and start playing. With today's systems, you gotta put the disk in, wait for update, wait for install, patch the game, sign in, update some more.... like... when do I get to play the damn game???? Starfox is still one of my favorites!
Everything seems faster on this video than other Star Fox videos.
Can't wait to download this on my Wii!
Also I can remember getting completely dominated by the boss on the Asteroid level.
Brutal.
Holy shit, you're an ace at this game o_o
Me & Julio (Arcade) All Bosses
Boss 1 Prototype 41
Boss 2 Bam Bam
Boss 3 Patrica's Gun
Boss 4 Waltz Elder
Boss 5 Sharp Shot
Final Boss - Dr. Finkel
+ Ending & Credits
gotta love the oldies!
OMG I love this game so much. I really want to play this again.
You're very good. I hope this game comes out on the virtual console.
Everything's moving faster than normal. This is Starfox Turbo.
You did an epic job!
o shit my bad lmao!! i must of been hella sleepy when i wrote that x]
Yeah, Shield of Teammates!
Those are some f*ckin Sweet BARREL ROLLS LOL!!
I must have rented this game over 10 times as a kid. It was just so damn good! Why didn't I buy it?, because it was always sold out in my area!
thx 4 postin!
14:30 I could never figure out what those weird blue blobby objects were that sometimes appeared after defeating a large craft, but weren't powerups. They're enemy pilots!
@stigler30 you mean the little grey cart that sits in a case on my bookshelf that reads "Starfox" which also sits next to my CT cart
They have a rendition of this theme for the Star Fox Stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Well, like the name of the song implies, it is the Space Armada, like the game.
@priyahthewhite yes, listening to the starfox OST right now and its f***ing epic :)
Good ol ZSNES. Despite what people say about the framerate being 'Very fast', it's still a bit slow, the game is capped at 20FPS. Even if ZSNES were faster than this, the game would not go any higher than 20FPS.
Compare that to the game's 8-12FPS on real hardware however, and yeah, it's pretty fast. I like it this way more though, feels more intense.
would it run this fast on snes9x for psp? im downloading the emulator on my psp and i actually like this speed WAY better
All Ships check in!
When this game came out it was absolutely unbelievable.
3D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Star Fox 64 is on the VC, so sometime the origional Star Fox should be on the VC
It's really funny watching this...I remember when this came out...The graphics were so awesome, and compared to newer games it looks so bad...I still play my Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 all the time.
One of my favs of the time!
I had this game as a child, but it was called Starwing...
You know wats Freakin Bad About this Whole Series?>>Its that Foxs Team Mates Never Helps when Someone is in Danger
Slippy: lets turn back, OK?
wow, what a wuss
Good Luck!
We made our accounts as Director before the limit was added.
Space Armada is so much like Area 6 on Star Fox 64 it's funny!
@Atticization He is most likely playing this on emulator. Some emulators adjust the game so it has little to no slowdown. It's pretty intense!
music is f***ing brilliant, always like that with Nintendo :D
Starfox 4 Life!
I forgot about this game until someone on twitch mention it. :D
@supercrapnstuff11 That's because of the emulator quality back in 2006 (at least, I believe that's why). If you were to play it (or Starfox 2) on an emulator today, this shouldn't be an issue. Google "bsnes".
good memories. I should be playing it right now if my sister did not broke it i love this game
I don't think Star Fox was meant to be played at 60fps because some of the sounds don't even get to finish during cutscenes.
ah good times, very good times :D
Sweet nostalgia.
DDDD: I remember this from when I was little!
