Star Fox: The Awesome Black Hole

- This video shows me playing Star Fox yet again on ZSNES, with the intention this time being to demonstrate how to get into the Black Hole and where it leads. For written instructions, to get into the Black Hole, from the level 1 Asteroid Belt, you need to shoot the spinning meteors as close as possible without crashing into the red one in the center (it may look like I hit one, but it was one of the grey ones that broke off when it was destroyed). After that, there should be a meteor with a face on it (like in the level 3 Asteroid Belt). Fly into the vortex that appears, and you go to the Black Hole.
The area is a warp zone, so the video shows where all the warps go. First ring takes you to Sector Y, second ring goes to Sector Z, and the third ring dumps you at the level 1 Venom. If you take the second or thrid rings, you will change your course, and the game will continue on that course.
You will notice the STATE 1 SAVED/LOADED messages at the bottom of the screen. There's a reason for this. I didn't feel like playing through the first two stages more than I had to, so I saved state at the right time and just played the Black Hole three times. - Розваги
Gotta love how the level is called "awesome black hole" when it´s actually stated to be a freaking graveyard and the place where Fox´s father vanished. I also like how General Pepper casually comments on it without being worried or anything.
"Haha your dad is dead fox lmao"
The word "awesome" has lost a lot of meaning due to people overusing it. It simply means being in awe of something that completely overwhelms you. Nowadays people say "awesome" pretty casually, myself included lol
@@PK_Ave Really? Now that's awesome! :D
@@Justforvisit Good one :]
Man...I remember I did this in public at my local Sears mall. They had a video game kiosk for kids and I was like YEAH BLACK HOLE! No one cared lol
I miss those mall display Nintendos
Those were the days.
Awesome doesn't always mean cool or good. It can be used to describe something large and grand.
Aah. That makes sense.
Or invoking of gods eye
At least Fox didnt end up being trapped in the Black Hole. But Other Dimension is a different story. Also I refer it as the Bad Ending of Star Fox.
Black hole is more creepier imo
AKA The ending where Fox got addicted to slot machines and became a slave to gambling until… THE END
I personally think the cornerian ship that pops up here was intended to be Fox's father. The game manual hardly mentioned the guy, and didn't specify that he even flew an Arwing (they even claimed Fox's crew was the first to fly them). Since Cornerian ships showed up in so few places in the game, I think that ship was meant to stand out for that reason.
'Course, a lot of plot points in Starfox 1 were retconned anyway. Nonetheless, I still love this game! Best soundtrack in the series imo!
Pepper doesn't give a shit what you do as long as you finish your job.
Star Fox: Proud owner of THE awesome black hole.
Not AN awesome black hole.
THE awesome black hole.
Star Fox isn't the owner. Andross's experiments created it, so shouldn't he be the owner? :P
@@wesleyoldham-cartoonsandtv1962 I don’t think he’ll respond, look when he posted that comment lol
@@caught4k493 What if he waits ten years first? 🤣
@@wesleyoldham-cartoonsandtv1962 oh lord 😭😂
There's also even more secret stage than this.
It's called "Out of This Dimension" and you need to go to the hardest Asteroid level and shoot a greenish asteroid until a giant bird appears. Ram the giant bird and voila!
That asteroid is a green one that is big. The first one you will see is at the left, and the second one will appear on the right. Shoot it enough times until a weird bird thing will appear. Fly to it and you will sent to the level.
Everyone heard of Out of This Dimension by now.
Nafeels Entertainment he already did it
Wish I could forget that one.
It would've been really cool if you could find your father in the black hole and save him. And if you saved him and beat andross you got the best ending for the game. =/
The simple geometry really does have a charm to it.
Yes, general pepper did state that James disappeared down the hole
Apparently Jim didn't have his own name yet, the comics called him Fox McCloud Senior, and our Fox was Fox McCloud Junior, and he hates being called "Junior"
ahh the fact that you could see jame's arwing is the main thing that always scared me about this level. well at least it looks like his arwing to me at 2:15
MCA der Negus
He was presumed dead, but he didn't actually die per say. He was just transported to another dimension and was rescued by a starship that toke on the form of a giant whale in Fox's dimension when it visited it via the Black Hole. If you read the 1993 Nintendo Power comics which are part of the SNES canon, you'll know about this.
Also MrPiGuy, that's not an Arwing, that's an X-Fighter. (The name of the Cornerian starfighters in this continuity.)
Patch93 im glad you told me that. i've always been a fan of star fox and the lore so it's good to know that. But i'd assume that James had an arwing because in star fox 64 when his ghost appears (after you kill andross on the hard path) his ghost pilots an arwing. and in star fox command when he appears he also has an arwing. Why is his ship an "X-Fighter" in the SNES game?
MrPiGuy Because it's not his ship.
Rodrigo Cristi Then whose ship is it?
+Rushmiles could be any ship, the black hole is a ship graveyard ... and since it's not an arwing it can't be James'
This level creep me out back then, especially the face rock.
I fell your pain. I couldn't watch a video of star fox without fearing this level popping up in the video suggestions. Only now have I built up the courage to watch this!
Good for you man.
Oh well good luck watching Out of this diamenson sorry I can’t spell that good
I have a few names for the Black hole:
Paranoia zone-X,
Eternal darkness,
Lost Zone
I chose those names because of the mysterious music, and the fact that Fox's dad vanished here.
It's also referred to as the space graveyard.
I only rarely ever got to play this. Despite that, I clearly remember shooting the asteroids as soon as I saw them, and it worked fine. Miiiiight be you've been challenging yourself more than you strictly needed to all these years!
When you pass the 3rd ring it repeats until you pick a warp. Honestly I don't know how Nintendo expected us to figure this or the other warp out without the Internet back then but they're awesome for doing it.
wow, amazing dude i spent years trying to get into that black hole but i never knew how
great vid
dont you guys know?? mc cloud isnt dead... the black hole didnt kill him but warped him to a different universe... he went through a transformation, traded fur for skin, a fighter plane for a hovercraft racer, and a tail for an awesome hairdo... james is alive, but he is in the universe of f-zero now...
and after 16 years i finally see the awesome black hole man i aced this game back in the day but never EVER got here thanx for the vid man!!!
You can miss it.
The level is a circle, so if you go past the third one you just find yourself back at the beginning.
I was in this level for an hour, going in circles, because I thought it was cool and did not want to leave.
General Pepper: "You know what would have been even better than warping straight to Venom, Fox? YOU DESTROYING THE ****ING SPACE ARMADA ALONG THE WAY, THAT'S WHAT!!"
Fox:Eh,it was at least worth thr trouble
@lylatfox4 James isn't "lost" in the black hole, he just disappeared in it, he probably ended up taking one of the portals to another dimension or something...
wow, its so hard to believe that slippy used to stutter so much. even in 64 he was pretty energetic!
I love how aerodynamic the Arwing looks in this Star Fox.
2:15 James' Arwing at the bottom of the screen.
for a long time when I was a kid I thought I was the only person that loved this game
My friend Ira showed me this, when i was at his house. It was clearly easy to remember after what he to me what to do. There are only 3 rings in that level, if you pass all three with them, you start over beginning with the first one again. Three rings take you to three different places.
EarthBound FTW, bro. Freaking love that game.
Is anybody old enough to remember Kellogg's Corn Flakes promoting Star Fox? The side of the box explained how to get to the Black Hole, but it failed to mentioned that Sector Y wasn't the only exit point. I discovered on my own that it also led to Sector Z and Level 1 Venom.
Also my brother used to have the Star Fox LCD game + watch. I believe you also got that from Kelloggs.
man the memories come flooding back.. this was the first game i ever played and i still play it today =)
Awesome (‘awe’+’-some’), adjective: “something which inspires awe”
I love the firing sound of the second weapon upgrade, it just sounds so powerful!
Wolf had the same amount of teams as Fox. Leon,( appeared in Star Fox 2 and every other Star Fox game except for the first one )Panther,( appeared in Star Fox Assault ) Pigma, ( who left the team because he wanted to find more money ) last one is Andrew ( appeared in Star Fox 2 and then became a Good guy in the DS version ). To take out the little confusion, the Original Star Wolf team were Wolf, Leon, Pigma, And Andrew.
Krystal Loves Fox Star Fox Adventures Romantic
James McCloud is at 2:16 Bottom Right Corner
Adds a nice eeirie touch to the environment,
but James is actually able to escape.
(passess fathers ship)
Fox:HI Dad
James:hi son
lol i like this place, would always take the last ring to skip everything else lol
Lol
The music was pretty cool. A good example of how the right music can affect the feelings of the viewer / player.
The Star Fox warp zone!
I remember the first time I got this. Never understood what made the face rock appear. But it blew me away
Ah, this level. Brings back memories. Even though SF64 had better graphics and voice acting, IMO this is still the best SF game.
According to the comics, going to Asteroid 1, entering the Black Hole, and coming out at Venom (3rd exit) is the route they took.
man, when i first did this when i was really young, i got scared shitless. it was probably the evil smiling face, followed by the chilling looping music playing as you fly around in confusing emptyness.
jus sayin, used to scare the hell out of me o.o
OMG!!! dis was my game man i played dis all da time keep dis video on plz!
Sucks that this channel got hacked. This channel was iconic for having this video's thumbnail as it's profile picture. Now it's just a husk used to sell crypto scams because the original channel owner abandoned it long ago.
he got his account back but the SMW videos are still privated for an unknown reasons, regardless they are now preserved at the internet archive
Best shortcut in the game.
It's obviously Slippy. If you pay attention to the right hand side of the screen a couple seconds before he flies towards your screen, you can see him in the distance heading left, then turn and face the screen before flying through the lower left hand side of the screen.
"The Awesome Black Hole" ...And awesome it is. :D
Wow.
The Arwing is so awesome, it doesn't get ripped to shreds by black holes.
Funny thing is, Fox's father was called Fox McCloud Sr. in the 1992 Nintendo Power Comics. But most people know him as James McCloud. Which makes sense seeing as Fox really disliked being called Junior.
" ah, fox you are a worthy foe " 🐵
this takes me back
Damn, that's a neat video! I've never figured out HOW to get to the black whole, even though I've played it since I was jus a kid :)
Neat video! KEEP IT UP! :P
A journey that begins where everything ends
Keeping in mind, about the whole crushed by a black whole thing, that as you are pulled to the "ground" your ship, having greater mass, should accelerate faster, preventing you from actually "crushing".
However, since you weigh more then light, it is possible for you to break the speed of light and thus cease to exist within our space/time universe... like Fox's father...
From what I remember, it just loops on and on forever until you jump through one.
love the music on the map when you take the black hole
Its like space-hell. The level one boss appears there (the Attack Carrier) and those mechs who are walking around with the buildings from Corneria are there too.
You can run into all sorts of crazy things in the black hole!
The Awesome Black Hole, back in the 90s when video games actually had awesome secrets like this, they need to make modern games with secret levels and Easter eggs like this.
Since this is where Fox’s father disappeared, it would have been cool for him to appear and assist fox on this stage like the other 3 usually do, like a ghost fox or whatever in this black hole dimension.
damn, i've seen this face meteor often, but i never shooted on it.. Great work!
And now the true test, hold fast or expire.
Ok. For everyone asking about the 3 warp thing being past, it goes over and over again. It loops. This part is so trippy, playing this plus the lag gives me a headache. But I think this parts awesome and there should have been one on 64
@Colbynateor if you think this is trippy, see Out of this Dimension
And now Fox believes he's saving Corneria when he's really being crushed into a space less than the size of a proton. ;)
*pelted with tomatoes and gummi bears*
@BrenMcCloud He probably did. Andross probably told him that once the Black Hole appeared, he should go to a newer Team which is Star Wolf. If Star Fox 2 was released, i'd say there will be no dumb "Do a Barrel Roll!" that Peppy will say.
One of the best games I have ever played in my life.
Yeah, it was realesed before the game, with nintendo power issues, the story and drawings were made by Benhimaru Itoh. Just google for the "Arwing Landing" website they got scans of the comics, just don't read the hi-res one first because some pictures were misnamed. Its worth the read, even if it gets a little cheesy from time to times.
james helps you out even if you take easy, he helps you if you go to venom 2
Either way, it is implied that he is shot down over Venom in SF64 I beleive... holy crap this all takes me back...
I wish I knew how to get to the blackhole when I was younger this was my favorate game back then.
Show-off X3
I wish I were that good at this game. Awesome video - epic game is epic
"that's gotta be the best pilot i've ever seen"
"so it would seem..."
i used to love playing this game!!!!
0:55 dang dude you got some skillzills
0:55 just remaking it
@beedolphin1
In the comics they say it's because his cornerian fighter had no g-diffuser.
i know that level.its really creepy as i was the first time at this level.I still love star fox.^^
The entire existence of out of his Dimension it's what happens when a pilot like Fox suffers from PTSD.
this graphics are really cool to think it was out already in 1993 :O its amazing
@Xinsden That, my friend, is an extra life. Whenever you see an upturned Arwing like that, it's only a 1-up.
@XcZeus3469 no, a worm hole would be used to jump large portions of space, basically if you think of space as a piece of paper, lets say 50 light years by 50 light years, taking one end of that piece of paper and folding it over to were the ends touch would create a wormhole, as for some reason thats still 50 by 50 light years of FLAT space, but thats because the fabric of the universe is not understood that well
I got to the black hole a lot of times before. Its fun.
This level is basically the warp zone of star fox
as much as starfox 64 was epic, this is even more epic o.o
I remember when I played through the black hole I guess I've spent an hour and a half playing through it avoiding every warp rings in the hope I could find James in there.
I miss this game
That smiling rock scares me. I recall having nightmares about it years ago.
So it isn't possible to find Fox's father in there ^^ ? That would be cool!
this is like one of my favorite games
Fox's father got lost in a warp zone...I guess we can call that a ''Warp Zone Fail'' !
@BrenMcCloud no, Pigma betrayed him but he didnt kill him, I thought he died by Andross back then but when i saw this, apparently James Mcloud died in the Black Hole. I think the other games werent from the same developers. Since the N64 was a remake. I think the Real Star Fox in my opinion, is in the SNES version.
Even Freddy Krueger is scared for his life of that place.
No. But if you can find the comic book (some online StarFox forum sites have it), Fox does see his father...more than once.
I was kinda disappointed to find out the black hole was merely a warpzone. I was hoping it would contain some sort of "hidden final boss" if you beat all the paths or something, but NOPE.
... anyway... man, the warps in 64 might've been a little creepy, but this place is just plain disturbing. Good thing I never saw the black hole as a kid! :D
@AtomicDonut22 no but worm holes do, and a worm hole is formed by connecting two blackholes
I"m impressed the SNES could handle complete 3d stuff like this, I always thought the n64 was the 1st that could by Nintendo.
How did I not know that you can warp straight to venom via a god damn black hole.
@MasterOfClix IT ALL MAKES SENSES NOW! Have you played Starfox Command? *Spoiler Alert* On one of the endings, Fox and Falco decide to become F-Zero racers and retire from space flight. Maybe Fox will meet his dad again :')
I can't believe I never knew about this, I gotta try it now.
Well, its never too late to try old games!
@SebastianM1234
...That's not an Arwing, that's a Cornerian Starfighter.
But yeah James did pilot it, at least in the SNES canon anyways.
