I have the Watch Ultra with the Ocean Band and another Trail Loop. The Ocean Band is my favorite by far. Knock off bands? No way. The Watch Ultra is expensive enough and I don’t want to lose it because of a crap band… Excellent video!
I think a lot of people are going to agree with you about not using a knock off band. I can't imagine losing the AWU to the bottom of the lake because I bought a cheap Ocean band. I will say some of the knock off straps I have here seem to lock in pretty well. So far so good 🤷♂️ Thanks for posting your feedback Brunode!
I have all three original Apple bands so here are my thoughts. I bought my watch with the black Trail Loop which is the most comfortable and the one I prefer to wear for casual use and for sleeping. You’re correct about the orange tab getting dingy. When I run I always use the yellow Ocean Loop as it fits the best when I’m sweating. It hasn’t faded and looks as good as the day I got it. I wear the orange Alpine Loop to mix it up and agree it looks the best.
This is awesome feedback Joe! Thanks so much for posting. Sounds like your experience is similar to mine although you’ve dialed in your preferences a bit better than I have. Thanks so much for posting this! 👌
Same here regarding the Ocean Band. Even though it didn’t look good or comfortable when I got my Watch Ultra, I love it and it is the one on my wrist…. I think of purchasing another one afterwards, either yellow or another color when / if Apple offers different options…
I’m using the ocean band for working out and I switch it up with the trail loop as it is very comfortable to wear. I also find the ocean band comfortable even though it digs into the skin and it leaves a mark. I’m thinking of getting the alpine loop but not sure if should get the army green or the ultra orange.
Really appreciate the honest opinion - I'm planning to get the Ocean band, not because I am a diver but because I always use the Apple Watch when working out in the gym and because I often am in hot humid locations where I sweat easily. The Ocean band to me would be better under this conditions - easy to clean and withstand moisture without getting dirty. Trail Loop - nahhh, don't choose anything with Velcro which will wear out over time, like the look of the Alpine Loop but I think will get dirty over a period of time especially with moisture often on my wrist. Hope I'm making the right judgement, your video helps tremendously - thanks !
I think you made the right call. I'm always switching out bands after mine is wet from swimming or sweaty. 😬 The Ocean band is the most traditional in a good way. Thanks for the kind words. Keep me posted on what you think when you've had the Ocean band for a bit. 👍
I think the best band Apple made is that silicone one with the many holes, they sold with the regular watches. (Nike Sport Band) I’d love to see that with the Ultra! (Not a big fan of the color options for the ultra bands rn)
Yeah, I'd love to see more Ultra options as long as they're snug and secure. I don't want to lose this thing while swimming in the ocean or something crazy like that. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
What an amazing video Matt! The production quality is absolutely fantastic!! I too own the Ultra and struggled with band selection. Ultimately I settled on the Ocean band, alternating between the white (which I have on now) and the midnight ocean. Keep up the extraordinary work!
That midnight ocean looks 🔥 Personally, I think the Ocean band was the right choice solely for the fact that it's the best value. After that some of the third party options are really interesting. There's also some fantastic options I didn't talk here. There's lots of very unique looking bands out there.
Hi Matt, Ultra Alpine loop here. I picked up those amazon bands, they are OK at best, but no way i trust them to keep my watch on my wrist during a tri swim start .. good tip about folding the wetsuit over the watch though 👍🏻
Your videography is beautiful. Very informative as well. Came to a couple of your videos for the Apple Watch Ultra info, but going to stick around for how well they are put together.
Dude, an excellent example of how Apple does whatever the heck they want... An excellent intro of B-Roll & voice-over 😁👌👍👍My choice is the orange 🍊 alpine loop.
You are spot on regarding the prices of Apple Watch bands, guess most of their audience customers either "don't care" or "have too much money to waste" either way I personally feel that Apple don't care. Just way too expensive.
I think they all have benefits. I swim in the ocean band. Yet the trail loop is the most comfortable. The orange Alpine Loop is the classic look! I feel lucky to have all three official bands. Beware the third party Ocean Bands. They are nowhere near as good. Diffent plastics and the retainer pin is often different (no spring).
The third party Ocean Bands I ordered did have springs but my big question is the quality. I have no idea if it'll hold up to much of anything. I really don't want to lose my AWU to the bottom of the lake. 😬 Thanks CrueLoaf!
So I am looking in upgrading my Apple Watch to an ultra and having a hard time picking a band. I typically go to the gym and lift weights and I do go freshwater fishing pretty frequently. Any recommendations?
I still think the Trail Loop is my favorite but I don't know if it's the best value to pick up. You can always pick up the one you think looks the best to start with and then try a few of the more affordable knock off versions. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I got two ocean bands (orange and blue, I got it with blue) and two apline loops (orange and green). I like them all and cannot pick a favourite. I do find myself going for the orange ocean band more than the others though

@@mlegrand Hi Matt 👋 yes I do wear the others. The green alpine loop looks really cool with the titanium G-hook and i often put it on when I’m not exercising. I do like the feel of the blue trail loop because it’s softer and snug with the elastic and I often put it on for a race. I haven’t had it come loose or come undone. Both of these do annoy me that they stay wet though especially if they are sweaty after a run and you go to put the watch back on for work and it’s all sweaty. If you wash it then your shirt sleeve will be wet when you go to work. So on balance I would pick the ocean band as my favourite overall. It’s very secure for racing too.
I agree with the comment below - the quality of your videos is fantastic. (on a separate note I am torn between the forerunner 965 and the ultra. decisions, decisions).
Yeah, I tried something different with this intro. It's hard to do different stuff and I kind of feel sorry for you guys that have to suffer through my experimentations. 😂 As for the 965 or Ultra, I think it'd come down to if you want a smart watch or a endurance sports watch. There are trade offs. I think the Ultra might feel more bulky only because it sits up higher on the wrists but I still haven't been able to get a 965 for review. I'm trying. Hope all is going well with training!

Thank you for the great review :-) I bought the black Ocean Band and an orange Alpine Loop with my Ultra (the bands are a 'mere' or CRAZY $147 each here in Australia). Then I discovered third party bands on eBay and Amazon. Among other bits, I bought an orange Ocean Band for $6 on eBay. It came with shiny/ glossy metallic fittings. I used a rougher grade scourer pad, made for perfect removal of scratches from Omega brushed stainless-steel watch bands, to brush the bright metal bits on the cheap bands, bringing them into agreement with the titanium case and band fittings on the Ultra. Then there's the subject of very slimline native or colored titanium or stainless-steel bezels with integral screen protectors... here you'll find they run the gamut of elegant to awful--the one I'm using shows virtually nil fingerprints compared to the bare screen which pleasantly surprising.
So far so good for me. It does get grungy but I tried to clean it with oxy clean. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I got the the alpine loop but it is still unopened as none of the ultra bands appealed to me. I ended up going with the braided solo loop which is still a staggering $99. I find it extremely comfortable and it is seamless so will not come off during any activities. Just to note if you do go with a solo band when you use apples measuring tools make sure to go down 1-2 sizes from apples recommended fit. They said i was a size 7 and the size 5 fits perfect. They also offer rubberised versions of the solo loop for $50 so if you swim alot this would be the version to get. Highly recommended and for me the best official bands on the market currently.
I am thinking of getting the ocean band as well. One thing that I’m thinking is since the strap is quite thick, when it is strapped on double at the bottom of the wrist and when you’re typing on a desk, would it feel like something is on your wrist and elevate your wrist to an uncomfortable position? Hope you understand what I mean! LOL
I do a lot of typing and the ocean band isn’t noticeable as far as thickness goes. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Love your videos, very well done. I have been shopping trying to find another brand type for my Garmin. Fenix. For some reason the stock band starts to bother me once I start sweating (moves around). so I am always adjusting it. If you do more accessory videos can you throw in some options for the Fenix? Or if you have any ideas let me know! Great video! Thanks
I typically tighten mine down 2 notches before activities mostly for more accurate heart rate but also because I don’t like any movement. I’ll keep this in mind for future videos. Thanks for the feedback Chris!!! 👌
Glad you found something that worked. I've been tending to use the velcro trail loop but I've also been switching bands around a lot. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Good call. It’s funny. This is the one I was least interested in but maybe it’s the best option. 🤷🏻♂️ Wet watch bands against the skin for a long period of time is no bueno. 😬
@@mlegrand to me it looks really nice. Maybe I’m bias because I plan to learn to dive in the not to distant future. And the wetness is the main reason I dumped the Whoop. It doesn’t feel good at all.
I want an Ultra, mainly for heart monitoring and GPS. But I think all three of the standard straps are awful. I think it should ship with a nice metal strap with folding clasp
That would be amazing and then anyone who needs an athletic look could buy an affordable option. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Garmin gouges on Bands too, I only use the $13 bands for my Fenix 5x and aside from rips and frequent pet bunny massacre. The cheapies work just fine for me.
Good to know. I typically don't change out my Garmin bands too frequently but it's nice to mix things up. Avoid those pet bunny massacres as much as possible! 😂 🐰 🔪
@@mlegrand I try but she will seek vengeance on my watch band even while I’m still in said watch lol. If Garmin or a knockoff releases a Ocean band for the Fenix. I’d buy it. It would fit it perfectly
The ocean it is. To sit on my butt in front of work computer. To sweat in. To be able to wash it before going to sleep with it. Phone on my wrist. Fitness tracking or lack thereof, and sleep tracking. Those are the only reasons. Thank you!!
No favorite? I’m with you. I like them all for different reasons. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@0SIGMA stays clean and with a bigger watch it just fits it better because it’s a little thicker than the other two. The trail loop is really comfortable but it looks tiny with the ultra. Wish they made it slightly wider
I’m about to buy a ultra, after hearing your thoughts and others comments, I think I’m going to go with the ocean band. I want this watch to be a daily watch and I work in a shop with lots of sawdust, so I think it’ll be easy to blow off with the airhose, and just to rinse off! My only question is if anyone has found it uncomfortable when sleeping?
I sleep with mine on every night but yes, I've heard people find the watch too big and bulky to sleep with it on. I think you'd be smart to snag the Ocean band with the purchase and then try some third party bands to see if some might work decently when not at work. 🤷♂️ Keep me posted about what you figure out.
@@mlegrand for me the Alpine loop is the best choice. I mountain bike and wear long sleeved jerseys, sometimes wear arm warmers. When I was using my Series 5 with sport loop, the Velcro would sometimes come off when I’d be putting the arm warmers on.

I bought an Ultra 2 and choose the Alpine Loop and man, I hate it. It's a hot band and it is so hard to adjust the fitting. I hate it so much. I made a mistake: I thought there were not differences between the Alpine and the Trail loop bands, so I got the Alpine because it looked the best. I didn't want the ocean. Now I see that the Trail is a lot easier and more confortable, so I'm regretting my choice. And I can't really change it atm. I was searching for a similar band but I'm scared of poor quality and the watch just falling off because of a bad quality band. I'm not kidding at all: I can't stop thinking about the mistake of getting the Alpine loop band. It's been days. I live in Brazil, so these things are so much expendive here. I can't simply go there and buy another band.
That's too bad. Super sorry that you're stuck with it. I'd go online and find some super affordable options. Even if you only use it a little bit, it's a decent option at these super low prices: amzn.to/3SSmzXS
HOLY INCREDIBLE INTRO. You are getting really good with that animation. The music is also spot on for this video - great job. How cold is that local lake? Yucky water hold capacity! HOLY HECK- $100!???? YOU ARE NOT ALONE, that's too much money for a watch band. Question about video gear. Some of the product shots and out in the old shots are SO STINKING CRISP, then I see your head on shot as similar quality as what I can get from my camera.. are you using different cameras? Like 10:06 - that looks really sharp (I know, low aperture, but it seems like a different camera?) Seeking to understand! K
I have a nice 35mm that I love shooting b-roll with. My talking head is a 55mm. I wish it was crispy sharp as well but it’s probably not quite as nice a lens. It probably has more to do with the distance to the subject and my talking head shot being a little more distanced. The lake here is extremely cold right now. I think those video shots are old. Maybe late fall. I’m guess I’ll be able to get back in the lake in April but it’ll be freezing 🥶
@@mlegrand Most interesting. I find there's a difference between my photo sharpness and the video sharpness, your answer helps me explore more. Thanks!
Their first party pricing has always been excessive on the watch bands. it definitely got worse with the ultra because they called it the ultra. I have to say not owning one of these watches but having tried them all on I don’t think I am not happy with the comfort level of any of the three options. But the backwards compatibility is going to make it an easy problem to solve.

Your reasoning about value is super weird to me. It’s not like you would sell the band. So the best band is the one you feel most comfortable with, I really don’t see what is the place of value in this conversation.
Good point Jean. This video is a bit old now but I was just thinking that if someone was going to buy a few watch bands for their Apple Watch Ultra, they might want to get the Ocean Band from Apple and then spend a fraction of the $100 that Apple sells these at for a generic Trail Loop.
Awesome that you’ve found some good options. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Any input on how the Velcro wears on the trail loop?
Great feedback Stephen! I haven't tried them yet so it'd be interesting to try the rubberized versions. Thanks for posting this. 👌
Excellent video - thanks for all of the effort!
Does the metal loop on the Ocean Band scratch your laptop while typing?
@@jmc2442 - Note that I’ve noticed.
None of them. I went with I think it is called the alpine loop. Fits me better since it uses the velcro.
Glad you found something that worked. I've been tending to use the velcro trail loop but I've also been switching bands around a lot. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Ocean band…I prefer rubberized bands for drying purposes.
Good call.
Thank you!!
You're welcome buddy. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
good video with the bands,
i think most watch are $$ at first than it gets better.. normally
Maybe that's what will happen here. I'd love to see Apple drop the price a bit. We'll see.
I bought all three bands! And I like them all.
No favorite? I’m with you. I like them all for different reasons. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand My go to changes but I will say I having been using the Apline loop the most lately. I really like have different options.
Ocean was my least favorite on release date and now it’s my favorite
That's awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Thanks Seahawks!
@@mlegrand also awesome video my man!
Why ?
It is very comfortable to wear while sleeping but it digs into the skin and it leaves a mark.
Hey I'm curious what your experience has been? I'm about to buy an AWU 2 and hesitating between trail and ocean band (I do triathlon fyi)
Alpine loop for me.
nIce choice 👍 best looking of the bunch in my humble opinion.
@@mlegrand for me the Alpine loop is the best choice. I mountain bike and wear long sleeved jerseys, sometimes wear arm warmers. When I was using my Series 5 with sport loop, the Velcro would sometimes come off when I’d be putting the arm warmers on.
Awesome review
Thank you so much Bajo!!!
I want the black/grey trail loop but I hate the orange accent on it. Wish they just kept it one color.
That's also the part that gets discolored. 🤦♂️
how quickly will it dry after a shower?
Pretty quick. It's kind of almost dry after about an hour. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
the watch links are not working
Sorry about that. I updated them just now. These cheaper options tend to come and go. Keep me posted on what you think of them. 👍
I do not even have or want an apple product (#teamgarmin), but I still watch this video just for the cinema.
Thanks for the support Kristián! Hope you enjoyed something in here. 🎥
what editing software do you use???!
I mostly use Premiere Pro but this intro was made using After Effects. I worked hard on this one. Turns out no one cares. 😆
@@mlegrand Man, it was incredbile!
@@parkerkerth8446 - Thanks buddy!
@@mlegrand Not true...I appreciate the work on this intro and I think most people do also. Not implying that you have to do that on all future videos, but I always appreciate the design effort of all cinematography. Thanks for going the extra mile!!
@@bradj9531 - Thanks Brad!
This dude is taking his craft seriously.
I think that might be a complement. 🤔 I'll pretend it is either way. Thanks WolfDNA!
Yeaa, we alll agree that the price for the bands is on the steep side
It’s not just me? Good good. I feel like Apple could really knock off a good bit of the price here. We’ll see. 🤷🏻♂️
The Hermes bands cost more than the Ultra bands
i got that all the fake ones with many colors lol, not as good as the original one but it works XD
That’s how I feel too. They’re functional but not as good. But it’s nice to have color options. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
$insertProductTitle_"Ultra" = $$++
@@mlegrand lolol. nailed it
Trail is just undies so that’s immediately out
I get that but it feels comfortable to me.
I want calvin's @@mlegrand
Ocean feels the most comfortable and unique
Good call. I like the Ocean band but have been using the trail loop the most recently. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Your videos are magical@@mlegrand
@@slob5041 - Wow, thank you so much for the kind words.
Awesome video! I think it’s way good to buy cheaper in SOME things.. But in this case I feel it’s better to buy real Apple Watch Bands.. Cheaper is cheaper…I want the real deal on my 1000 $$watch..
Very understandable. 👌 I’m happy I have some affordable options but really they all end up getting used. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Best place to buy the Apple Watch Ultra: amzn.to/3LReO2p
Here are the 3rd party options I talked about in the video:
9 style Alpine Loop: amzn.to/46XLTlr
Ocean Band: amzn.to/3Q9mSOd
Trail Loop: amzn.to/3DwVH8p
They’re expensive
I know right? 😬
Very expensive
Exactly. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It’s an awesome Watch get 5 bands ….. problem solved LOL
That's basically what I've done. It's actually nice to switch them out regularly after a swim or whatever so you're not stuck with a wet wrist band on your wrist for half the day. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
They won’t lower it ever!!!
I fear that you’re right.
Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to watch this video.
Qaulity over quantity. You don’t want to lose your watch when the band breaks.
Good call Stray! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
