I've used it for several weddings as a filmmaker. This camera is insane. The AF is fast and even the 56mm 1.2 is fast and spot on. Only thing I miss: anamorphic view mode, because of the Sirui 50mm lens ;)

Really enjoyed and appreciated this video. Bought myself a X-T4 body a month ago. Totally agree with everything you say about the lack of an included battery charger. Read and watched a load of reviews before I bought the X-T4, I think only one of them mentioned the lack of a charger. As far as I'm aware you cannot even charge the batteries separately through the battery grip as you can with the X-H1 and the X-T3 I wish they had at least given us that option, because, as you say running a full mains charge through the motherboard is not a clever idea.

Agreed! This camera is incredible and the af is much better than my X-T3! I only found one thing that was probably overlooked by Fujifilm and that is, when you plug in a remote, the screen can’t turn forward because the plug is in the way.
Your reviews helped me finally decide; XT4 vs D500 and I'm going with the XT4 for overall capabilities. XT4 should serve my purposes for youth action photos/sports, mild portraiture, and video. 📸

Michael Nikonfuji yes fuji needs a longer lens that’s over 200mm and sharp . Apparently there is new technology out there and Fuji users my be getting some lighter and smaller lenses over 200mm
Thank you. How is the build quality of the X-T4? I found the build quality of the 3 not as robust as the 2, especially the top dials. I had several X-T3 that had lack of resistance consistency across the top dials, with one feeling very cheap. How is the 4 in this regard and in general?
Would you recommend where you buy and what all-around lens on a budget again, please - thank you. More into taking pics of people. I have been all BandH for years - got a Lumix dmc g6k and it's fine but never really clicked with it - doesn't flow as a more manual camera/video... you've sold me on the XT4 though I'm low on funds. Battery charger is great. Charged a drained battery really quick. The shutter is great when shooting birds. Doesn't scare them off

Hey Ken, do you know what happens with the Fuji compact cameras division? I'm talking about the fujis x10, x20 and x30? When is the successor of the x30 coming out? Or are they giving up them? I own a x20 and i really love it but i'd like to have a 2020 version of those cameras ( with better af, better iso, more megapixels, improve lcd screen, new lens...etc). Thanks!
You mention the headphone jack is in the grip - however, there's a dongle that can be used - which, of course, people have complained about that. So, is the dongle useful - or no (if you don't get the grip)? Also, can you use the grip as a charger like in X-T2 and X-H1?
Great to hear that the focus peaking is good, I'm gonna be using a bunch of Voigtlanders and AIS Nikons on it and those fare abysmally on my Xpro2 when it comes to peaking!
I use my X-T4 overhead with no problem while using the flippy screen. Just have to look a little to the left. Not sure why so many photographers are hating the flippy screen. It works great for stills and great for video.
"The more contact points you have with your hand and your camera the more shake there is" - I understand you're not a video shooter. The more contact points you have between you and your camera the less shake you have. Three contact points is ideal, to be exact, that's why we as professional camera operators use the extended eyepiece when filming, because it adds that third point. If not, resting the camera on the hip is also a good way to add third point of contact, but there needs to be three.
I have read in many forums users complaining about the decrease of quality between the XT2 and the XT3 and XT4. It seems the later editions don’t feel as solid and robust as the XT2. As an example, it seems the lcd screen on the XT4 feels plasticky when the one of the XT2 is metallic. Do you have any thoughts to share on this? This is addressed mainly to Ken but also to anyone who have anything to say about this. Thanks

How did the silver coating hold up on your Silver Xt3 Ken, torn between silver and black XT4. Heard that the silver power coating is prone to easily scratching?

I have received mine a few days ago, and man, its outstanding. I even shoot some backyard wildlife with the XT-4, K&F concept adapter, and a 200-500mm Nikkor F/5.6E (yeah no aperture control) and it was nice. Im happy.
Michael Nikonfuji no there are no connections on the k&f adapter. Also because this lens is an electric controlled aperture, I had no aperture control either. Everything was shot wide open.

If you fit a Nikon FX lens via adapter, you lose autofocus, but will you still benefit from IBIS?
is there still the 15 min 4K limit in the X-H1 or did firmware solve that?
Can you attach a external power brick but def a bad idea to not have a charger.

I have used sledge hammers to "fix" cameras and computers. Works really well.
I bought the XT4 as my first camera (since long time, as a kid i started with Nikon D60 years ago), and i'm happy so far. Although i have 2 complaints on this camera. One is the price. The Sony A6600 is 200 bucks cheaper, at least where i live.
And two, although the EVF is pretty awesome, for some reason it is a bit laggy... no idea if this is my unit only. If it is, i will contact the shop i bought it from.
Hello, nice video. Quick question: I have an X-T30 for travel and family as it is small with prime. For Sport and Wildlife, I am still using NIKON D500. Today, would you recommend me selling both to buy an X-T4? Is the X-T4 AF now matching the 3D tracking of the "old" Nikon DSLR that I know you used to love?

@@AleMarchAMP if i were you i'd sell d500 and keep my xt30 for sure..great compact cam for street and travel..get a xt3 instead of xt4..believe me that ibis thing is not that of a big deal..they share the exact processor and sensor..thus iq will be no different..

Have X-T20 and an X-H1. The X-t20 is too crowded, the X-H1 too heavy, though I love the handle. It's too heavy because I have autoimmune arthritis affecting my hands, and am generally a bit deconditioned. Considering selling both to fund an X-T4. After mistakes on both of those, I would like to hold an X-T4, but can't find it locally. Any idea if this is enough in the middle to have this work? I love having dials that I can tell at a glance what my setting are. I moved from 4/3's because that sensor was too small for indoor candid (non-flash) photography, but it was otherwise ideal for the much lighter weight. Any helpful opinions out there?
15:02.... I'm suspicious of using this charge port also. I just got a new xt4 used the USB port to charge. And my camera is not not working. Either that or maybe I had some electrical discharge from my finger. I'm glad to hear ken bring this up. It's too late for me cause I had to buy a new xt4 after 3 months.

Having a hell of a time deciding between the XPRO 3 and XT4. Currently have a XT3 and a X100V, love both.
Hi Ken, I agree with your rating of the Fuji Xt4 and the kit lens, the 16-80 f4 - great combo.
I have a issue with the camera that you might be able to help. In single shot mode when I take one picture the camera takes almost 2 seconds to store the file. And during this process the evf blacks out showing the message 'storing'. This is a bit annoying. If I change to continues low this does not happen although it is not ideal as most of the time I just want to take one picture. Changing between boost mode and normal or economy doesn't seam to make any difference. Is this a glitch the firmware could solve? Is there a solution? I am using two Sandisk Extreme Pro 170MB/s 128Gb. This did not happen with my XH1 but I can't remember if it did with the XT2.

Hi after many months looking at getting back into photography I have gone from Sony to Nikon and possibly the xt4. I know your not keen on the Sony gear and didn’t give the z6 ii a brilliant write up. Now to the xt4 I have read but cannot find the article saying that the future of the apsc size sensor is going to be short. I don’t want invest a lot of money in gear if it’s all going to change again. Thanks

I am interested in medium format, and would appreciate your opinion (could even become another video for you.)
1. you have mentioned previously how larger pixels create better images. The GFX 50R and GFX50S are 51 Mp, while the GFX100 has the same size sensor but twice the number of pixels. How do the 3 cameras compare in this aspect? ie is the 100 Mp on the same size sensor mean that the smaller pixels don't get as much light? How do they compare for dynamic range?
2. The 100 Mp would give higher resolution than the 51 Mp sensors, but actually how do the images compare wrt other cameras, eg Hasselblad, Nikon D850, and even the X-T3? Speaking about image quality here.
3. How would any of the MF FUJI cameras do as a Monochrome camera, compared to the same cameras using color converted in software to B&W? How would it compare to say my X-T2 converted to monochrome?

Personally i dont think there’s much to charge via usb-c. I keep my 16 inch MBP plugged and charged via usb-c with no fear of circuit board failure due to it.
I do think the biggest issue with the XT4 is overheating while recording 4k and using dual media recording. They released in before summer and i think it was over looked by all reviews but it does shut down within 20-30 mins in 80s deg ambient temps.
It heats up after 8 min of recording. Is it better with the battery grip?

I got my XT4, charged with the usb-c port, and it worked exactly 1 time. The next day, the camera didnt recognize any battery anymore, and didnt show the battery indicator. Turns out it broke. Fortunately, I got an immediate replacement.

I bought the Nikon D700 because of your recommendation many years back and it was awesome. But if I want to print big, I miss resolution and I want to have eye autofocus. I mainly do Portraits, landscape and travel photography. How does the xt 4 image quality compare to the d700? I am also thinking about the gfx 50 because of the image quality... but damn it's too expensive for me with the lenses. Do you think the xt4 is the best camera for my usecase? Or rather z7 or something like that?

@@kathodosdotcom I feel like it's getting super expensive with the 50r...:( I can get the body for 2.500€ used but each lens costs about 2.000€ additionally and I need a super wide angle zoom, a portrait prime and a Tele zoom... With the xt I can get all together for about 2,600€

I just got the X-T4 with the XF 16-80 (great combo), is there a way of deactivating the sensor cleaning? I see that you can set it to activate it when turning the camera off or when turning it on, is it necessary to have it constantly clean the sensor?
Yes, (assuming it's in the same location as the X-T3) in the menu, go to the user setting, sensor cleaning, and make sure when switched on and when switched off are both off.

Thanks Ken, and I really appreciate your not shoving specs in faces, like those all too many two week old reviewer wannabes. I'm caught between the X-T3 and X-T4 so I have a little more to soend on glass. I'm an enthusiast. I also have an X-T1.
Never use the video in my DSLRs, (use a Osmo pocket) so why am I paying for it in all these new cameras! When will we get a decent still camera for a decent price. Apart from digital images, autofocus and VR there is not much these new expensive cameras offer over old SLRs.
Because making a camera for stills only would be nowadays a commercial suicide. If there was a decent demand for stills only cameras, we would have been seeing them already (and successful) since quite some time, and likely at a marginal price difference. The video market is not new, it's a long-time established fact. That also translates into reduced costs for R&D and production dedicated to the video features.
@@ducav2 The problem these days is they add ever more programmed features because it costs very little extra and every photo geek can say 'ooh my camera can do this an that', yet I reckon 75% of settings are never used by most photographers. Trouble is finding what you do need in the mass of settings available. Total nightmare.
just buy the xt20 or 2. They are much cheaper and amazing image quality

i LOVE my X-t4! what a long way fuji has come. I actually think theyre cheapeing up in build quality just a tiny tiny bit, the XT1 was incredibly well made, but I think to stay competitve and below full frame pricing they had to cheapen up a tiny bit. But otherwise, this is amazing!

I don't like the shutter release on the xt4. It's also too small for my hands. It's my first Fuji, delivered just yesterday, and a handful of test pics are encouraging, but I really don't want to have to shell out for the grip! Aaaargh! But my hands are on the bigger side and it's not comfortable to me at all.

Mr. Wheeler, I would appreciate your thoughtful consideration of two videos: 1. An informational video on "Dead-Fixed Pixels." Description of dead, fixed, unresponsive pixels: how to deal with them. how often they occur, should owners be concerned or when should they be, any solutions or software remedies or fixes. It's horrible feeling seeing them even though millions are happily doing their job. 2. There is a Fujifilm sale currently. People (like myself) are holding out for the Fujifilm XF 300mm F4 and 500mm F5.6 (patents). Do you or your sources have any updates or with the current 100-400mm sale "our best bet?" Any ideas? Nailed it. I really wish the X-T3 had the X-H1's leaf spring shutter as well as a more DSLR placement over the finger grip like the X-H1 has.

Especially the market that this camera caters for. Most users will probably have more than one battery. Makes more sense to include a charger.

The screen you say is impossible isn't. Put the tilting screen on the back of the fully articulating screen panel. Yes, it will make it thicker, but it can be done.
I agree 100% ! I switched from Nikon to Fuji and have 5 of them in use.
I use them as Workhorses (two X-T3‘s and a X-T4) as well as loved hobby shooters (X100V and X Pro3) but the „gettin‘ cheap style“ on Chargers is really annoying. And its getting worse. Even if you buy that double Charger for the X-T4 they don‘t include the cable. So you have to buy that too if you buy two chargers. I would feel sorry if Fuji, who does everything right, would mess up there image because of going cheap on chargers. 🤯

Hi guys. Perhaps good for the environment, because it reduces e-waste? I.e. if you already have one perhaps that can do. (That’s my situation). If the person doesn’t have one, the person can then make a decision knowing that they’ve made a conscious decision and reflecting on their own environmental footprint. Just a thought. Cheers.

Ken. I'm having trouble decideing on the 16-80 f/4 vs the 18-35 f2.8-4. What would you recommend? I don't do interior low light much. Probably 65% Stills and 35% video. Is it safte to get the 16-80 now with the initial focus issues that were talked about alot online? Thanks.

Does the Q button and joy stick work fine on your copy? Some people have had buttons not work on the XT4 right out of the box. I just got my XT3 two weeks ago and it already had an issue of not turning back ON.
@@LonStar3000 I've never had a problem doing this and I think you're just a fuji hater. my IBIS never had shaking problems either will the small exceptions to when its on a tripod which is a problem throughout ALL camera manufacturers.
The screen of my XT20 failed after some weeks and the 18-55 zoom made in the Philippines has already lens mold. A good camera, but quality lacks.
I wish Fuji removed their recording limit for video but great review as always! Straight to the point and no fluff
They can but they would have to pay European tax on it that would have to be passed on to consumers. Majority of people probably don’t need continuous recording over 30 mins, although it would be nice.

Ken - I greatly respect your real-world opinion. I don’t understand your Nikon Z-Hate. I know Nikon’s photo business future is at risk. But camera vs camera, why is the XT-4 better than the Nikon Z7 II? I have a Z5 and like it a lot - but I’m ready to upgrade. I can’t afford GFX. Why XT-4?
