  • Fujifilm XT4 After 6 Months Of Abuse Review
It has been 6 months since I got the Fuji XT4 and after almost daily use for photo and video I summarised a few key points about my experience. Anything not covered here has been covered in the original video I made back when I got it.

The XT-4 is the first “real” camera I’ve ever bought and it was 100% worth the price. It’s one of my most prized possessions now 😅

I was so close to getting XT4 but I couldn't get over the fact that Fuji only makes APSC sensor cameras... If they ever make a FF camera, I will buy it 100%.

    • @UnofficialLesTwins

@@nogerboher5266 Honestly I don’t know much about cameras and the difference between Full Frame and APSC cameras. All I know is I’m super super happy with the quality of this camera. The only negative I can think of is the battery life which can be increased with some accessories.

@@UnofficialLesTwins XT4 is probably in the top 3 for APSC sensors as far as image quality goes, the images that camera produces are top notch. I however specifically need the full frame, as I shoot motorsports, mostly WRC and Hill Climb events, of which about 50% is either in terrible/low light conditions or straight up nighttime. Plus the additional blur really comes in handy when shooting cars in foresty areas or in snow, makes for amazing backgrouds.

    • @UnofficialLesTwins
      @UnofficialLesTwins 3 роки тому

@@nogerboher5266 Ahhh ok ok . Yeah I use mine to record videos in a dark room with some cheap lighting and it kind of struggles with the quality even with a expensive lens. I just shot a video for the first time in good, natural light and the difference in color and quality is staggering. I should really invest in some better lighting gear 😅

@@UnofficialLesTwins A friend does studio portraits and cine shots. Check out the SL60W or SL60Y from Godox and one of their large softboxes. That's what he uses and it's fairly cheap too to be honest. Same quality as Westcott or GOWE lights but instead of pumping out $1,500 on a pair of lights and a pair of softboxes, you'll pay only $350-400.

Great vid as always. I'm more in love with using the screen than I thought I would be. I'm having a weird time with the IBIS, hopefully it'll come around. The massive battery life and separate movie/still settings was more than worth the upgrade alone for me. And if I need to ever use auto exposure movie mode, I do it through the ISO to avoid the 'stepping'.

Thanks for the review, Roman. I was thinking about buying the X-T4 in the new year to bring with me for my "Photography on location" videos. I don't own any other X-T body so I think I will jump into the system with the upgraded version of the X-T3.

Appreciate this review. My wife is photographing old houses in our region (100 plus years old). Sadly a lot of them are being torn down. She was using my Nikon D300, 18-200 zoom, 28, 85 and 105 primes. After I bought my first Fuji (XPro3) a few weeks ago I decided to get her the Xt3, 16-80 and a couple primes to save her from lugging around 6-8 pounds of gear. Been watching Xt4 reviews and started leaning towards it. Your review just clinched it. Liz has a birthday coming up in early March. It’s gonna be a good one.
The X Pro3 is blowing me away. I’ve overlooked Fuji the last few years. I’m mostly a film camera lover and shooter. I’ve found a digital camera line up I can finally love like my film gear.

Hey Roman, just a little tip for taking care of the camera after a rainy shoot: keep those tiny bags that come with new shoes to keep moisture away at all time in your camera bag. When you put your camera back in the bag place that anti-moisture bag close to the camera for some hours, maybe even overnight. That will prevent moisture and fog inside. I have done that with my X-Pro3 which has an optical vf and is more prone to fog and it has prevented fogging many times already. Worked also with my X-H1. Hope this helps you prevent any damage next time.

Like you say if no interest in video stay with xt-3 and I am very happy with mine. At some point I could be talked into trading my xt-1 in against a newer body, but hard to justify the cost when it is for me purely recreational, lol. Another great vlog Roman, take care, stay safe bud.

I'm keeping my X-T3 as well. IBIS is definitely a nice to have in some situations (also for stills) but that's really the only big difference which makes X-T4 a more capable camera especially now that firmware 4.0 for X-T3 is out.

Awesome video! Helped me decide in getting the X-T4 :)
I did get water in the battery compartment somehow... no damage though.
Upon inspecting I noticed the battery door's little plastic square doesn't really seal the door. A friend's X-T4 has the same gap in the battery door.
I called Fujifilm North America Support to ask about it, and they said the camera is only moisture resistant and would not ever recommend using it under any rain (although the official site claims we can lol). Support also told me if the camera had suffered water damage, they wouldn't cover it...

Thanks for the video, my shutter button has started to stick when I was up in the Assynt rain last week. Sending it back to Fuji on Monday. Wow Sandwood Beach 👍 been there on the way to Cape Wrath. I find the 50-140 struggles to focus in the rain in both auto and manual focus. I have noticed the video exposure stepping, havent seen it before even on my X-T2.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the camera. I do have the X-T4 but I would never subject it to such a downpour, I don’t go out with the camera even if it’s just a drizzle, I’ll stay home, watch Netflix and have a drink (or two). I shoot 100% stills (I don’t have any interest in video), but I still would get this one over the X-T3 if nothing else, just for the battery life, I also have the X-T2 and the difference in batteries (life) is just as you said. Stay safe Roman.

great stuff. i have the camera too, love it. i'm always one to second guess a purchase, or eye up a different brand, but i would still choose the X-T4 again today, and considering the variety in the camera market, that says something.
for stills, i've always left ibis on, but read that you might actually get sharper pics, at high shutter speeds, with it off. have you tried this at all?

One thing, is that in your summary, you say get an xt3 if you're only interested in photos, but earlier you say you appreciate the IBIS on the xt4 for stills due to shaky hands. I'm not interested in video and don't have steady hands, so not sure which one to get now.

I took my X-T3, Kit lens, and battery grip into London camera exchange for trading towards an X-T4 all were in Grade 1 condition, the camera had only had around only around 600 shots. I was quoted £800.00 online in exchange if in top condition.
I was 100% expecting to get this though was hoping for a bit more due to its out of box condition.
The person checking the camera (Exeter Branch Jonah Rice) decided to take the camera out the back, no warning was given, and was gout at the back of the store doing whatever he was doing for at least 10 minutes.
When he returned he informed me due to condition he could only offer me £660.00. My reply was what the f*** are you on about due to the condition it’s immaculate. He pointed out a large dig on the right-hand side exposing the metal underneath. This was not on the camera before I left the home and was not on the camera when he inspected it in front of me. It only appeared after he returned from his 10 minutes away from public access...
I took this matter up with their head office and asked them to review the CCTV footage as I suspected his ether switched the camera for an old damaged one or he dropped it himself and tried to cover it up.
I was informed there was a witness who was out the back with him who confirmed the camera was not damaged by Jonah Rice, if this person confirmed this they are both guilty, likely one good friend backing up another because this camera was in A1 condition before it left my site.
The manager handling the case (Lee Harasyn) further claimed the X-T3 had signs of corrosion and wear and tear according to the images he was sent. If this is the case then it could not have been my camera as I had only used this camera around 8 times and never in rain or dropped or knocked and stored correctly.
I was finally offered a further £50.00 still not good enough but I had no other option but to take it or have my camera returned and for me to return the X-T4 which was now damaged in store so I could never get a good price even if I went elsewhere.
My conclusion is no way where they going to admit responsibility. No way was the staff member going, to tell the truth.
My advice to anyone trading in cameras to London camera exchange is to never let it out of your site plus to Photograph It Just before you enter the store so you have Metadata showing date and time Proving the condition you took goods in for trade.

little not about the flip screen that I think everybody seems to miss (kinda) and that I found VERY practical (and also the reason I' would never go back from a flip screen to another system)
=> you can turn the screen towards the camera when taking pictures and using the EVF, not putting gonk everywhere on the camera with your nose (that forced me to cleat it regularly on my old camera beacuse on bright sunlight I couldn't see shit on the screen)
it also does protect the screen from scratches when you toss it in a backpack, and that have been a life saver for me many times

Hey Roman, wow....October 2020 seems like ages ago given the craziness of that year. I came back to watch this video again because I thought since the XH-2S is now out with the XH-2 and XT-5 soon to come there might be some good prices out there on the XT4 and was wondering if it would be worth trading my XT-3 in to get one. I'm only doing photography right now, but would like to give video a shot some day and it would be nice to have IBIS to help my old shaky hands! 🙂 So, just wanted to say thanks for this practical rather than tech spec overview of the XT-4! Question:(not specific to the XT-4 but....) I often see you use only the LCD to compose and shoot. I find that difficult because the screen isn't quite as bright as I need. How far do you go with increasing the brightness of your LCD? Have a great week......

Roman were you in face/eye AF for the bit at 18:00 where the exposure was all over the place? On my X-S10, it definitely adjusts more frequently to try to adjust for the face AE as opposed to turning off face AE/AF and adjusting for the whole scene. But the X-S10 does the same aperture stepping. I'm still strongly considering returning my X-S10 for an X-T4, for the battery, weather sealing, and improved controls. I hate to give up the size, grip, and dedicated video record button though...

From what I have gathered the xt4 will do everything at least as well as my current kit and most things better , while costing a fraction of the price of an RF setup , and fitting into a single reasonably sized camera bag.
I actually plan on dropping into my local camera shop on my lunch break today to try one on for size.

Looks like a great camera. Does it have GPS? How is does the camera a handle temps between - 15c to 30C? Where I live that's usually the max range of temp I get. Any issues with buttons or anything like that? I am curious if the various parts can handle the temp chnages in the winter and the cold temps, and how the camera handles heat, I need a camera i can go for a mountianbike ride and explore and take picture of the trails I ride, and various things I see, without camera a overheating just in few pics, like my Sony xz premium phone does. So I need a proper camera for shooting, my phone is not a problem in the winter, but in the summer it is.
With waterproofing i guess I can get one of those bags with a string like some photographers use.

It is disappointing that the water sealing is so bad, that you need to send it to Fuji. There are other issues as well, like a randomly freeze when you use self timer. My X-T4 was freezing several times under normal conditions as well. I hope for a firmware fix, currently I am using 1.03. My old X-20 never had such issues. Would I buy the X-T4 again? Not 100% sure ! Thank you for the video!

Thank you! My 87 year old Irish friend has told me to focus on a subject, landscape or portrait or wild life, but not all. I have ignored it because I had joined a Photowalk group and they were doing all these things. This decision resulted in a lot of different lenses which costs much more than the camera itself. With the right focus a Canon R5 is reachable I think.

My biggest concern about IBIS jerkiness, I really want a camera that performs well in both, stills and video. Defenedly i need to pan and moving out with the camera, so how bad is IBIS? How often is it doing that random clunkiness?
Do you think it just a software thing? can Fujifilm make it better?
Other cameras like Panasonic do it so much better...
I already decided to buy this camera but that IBIS thing, another option is Olympus OMD1 MARK iii which has the best IBIS and really nice other features. But that smaller sensor. So this video makes me think should I change my opinion and take a smaller sensor camera with good ibis, or this a bigger sensor and not that great IBIS...
I will start making a lot of handheld video, vlog-style, walking, ski hiking, mountaineering, ice climbing, that's the reason why i want to update my camera, small compact and fact i don't need a gimbal for good video...
Have you tested IBIS on video with lenses; 16-80 f4, 18-55 f2.8-4? how good video i can get when i using two IBIS (body and lens own)?

13:34 might be cus the trail was not off camber and was more even, and then it was off camper and uneven so you might have done more wobbly and harsher walking. Jerking the camera a little bit. But really in sudutiond like this only way to fix ths ti's to walk carefully use smrs and legs to absorb the impacts basically walk in a sneaky way while holding camera in both hands, so slightly bend arms and legs. It's possible to make it stable enough even with no ibis by using this method if you are able to do this. But this is not a good way of hiking.
