@@GDHT That's GREAT but, I bet you're not as HAPPY as I am!👌 You GO GIRL!💖 I bet you fixed at least 5 roadblocks I've wondered about lately! Sometimes you don't have the words for what you want to know in order to search it out. You nailed THEM anyway!!
Great tutorial. At the 7:20 mark, you inadvertently taught me how to use the Group Selection Tool LOL! I've wondered for a long time what the heck that tool does but I've been too lazy to Google it. I saw how you used it and it finally occurred to me what it is for. I went right into Illustrator to test it, and it worked perfect. Thank you!
To my lost comrades-who were searching for a way to freely paint and erase brush strokes: Shift + E for an eraser that is not restricted to strokes, paths or fill shapes. Works just like a normal eraser brush! (Remember to select the thing you're trying to clean up, otherwise it will affect the rest of the drawing) Shift + B for the blob brush tool, B for regular paintbrush! Perhaps this too, can avoid your issue with erasing things in the first place.
You explained this so well thank you. I really enjoyed watching this video. Though this isn’t related to this tutorial I have a problem with the pencil tool. When I draw a stroke, it works and I am able to create a dashed line too, but when I apply a brush effect to it , I get the effect in spaces like little tiny brush blobs. Could you please help me out?
Thank you! I made a brush but I’m finding I have to open that dialog box to make the brush stroke bigger or smaller as opposed to just using the keyboard (+ -) keys. Is this right? Or did I do something wrong?
Ooops, I'm sorry, I meant bracket keys. LOL It's such a habit I don't even look at the keyboard so I was trying to remember what keys they are. But anyway, the brush doesn't enlarge using the bracket keys.
@@KelliDBH Ok - you can try 2 things. 1st - check Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts > Tools > then scroll to the bottom and look at Increase Diameter. Is it set to ]? If not, change it to ]. If it still isn't working, trash your preferences. Restart Illustrator, and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac).
@@GDHT Increase Diameter is set to brackets. I think you might think I'm talking about all brushes, but all other brushes change size with the bracket keys, it's only the new brushes I made that don't.
@@KelliDBH Oh I see - I did think you were talking about all brushes. I found an article about this: graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/28133/why-do-and-shortcuts-to-increase-brush-size-not-work-consistently and I think it may be the type of brush you're working with. For example the Width Tool won't work with certain types of brushes, so maybe that also applies to the Increase Size keyboard shortcut. ua-cam.com/video/MG4kkXIuaog/v-deo.html
I don't think so - you can change angle, roundness and size, but not beyond that. Can you just use the regular brush, then when finished, expand and unite? That will give the same result as the blob brush.
@@GDHT Regular Brush not good for drawing (I use crayon Art Brush), It give you sharp edge when turning. Look like Adobe is not Drawing Friendly, Photoshop can do it, but it's not vector, not so good when I resize it.
if i paint with the brush is there a short cut to connect it to the last drawn one? i dont want it to connect always just if i need it? is there a shortcut for it?
Not that I know of, but if you select the last thing you drew by holding CMD or CTRL (pc), the paintbrush will automatically connect to it (if you start near the point you want).
@@GDHT ok thx i know , seems like i have to disable and enable the option "edit selected paths" in the brush each time... this is frustrating because sometimes i want it to connect and sometimes i dont...
@@teabagNBG I never enable/disable that...hmm. My options have 'Keep selected' unchecked, but 'Edit selected' checked all the time. That way, when I complete a line and let off, I'm able to draw without connecting (because it's not selected at that point). If I do want to connect it, I CMD-click it, then draw nearby. I don't know...works for me.

I don't think you can use the brush and dashed line together. If you want a dotted line, you'll have to use a regular stroke.

Can we custom the Blob Brush to look like Crayon or Grunge? Like use Blob Brush with Art Brush as Brush Definition.

What is the setting of your Brush tool? Double click the brush tool, and make sure it's set to "Smooth" under Fidelity.
