I guess im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Marcus Nash Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Draw extending the lines, give lines different weight/expressions 5:20 select all expand, make live paint, live paint expand, then delete extra lines 7:20 select object, Object > Live paint > Make Use the paintbucket to apply paint.
Amazing tutorial, Brad! I've watched this video a couple of years ago, but watching it again (now with more Illustrator experience) made so much more sense! Appreciate it!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I notice the thread here about Photoshop and Illustrator and they really are SPECIFICALLY designed for two VERY DIFFERENT purposes. If you want good vector DRAWINGS that aren't pixelated you want ILLUSTRATOR.
Mind. Blown. I've lost untold hours of my life using the Pathfinder tool to cut overlapping shapes in order to create the final, fillable, shapes that I need for an illustration. Your process seems so much faster .. AND yields nicer results with variable line weights. (I've relied on the Width Tool plus an extra layer to create varied-width outlines .. nice results, but time-consuming.) Thanks for sharing your excellent tutorial!
This is brilliant thank you so much. I didn't not know you could group and ungroup vertices like that to quickly defeat overlay. I can even cut short my drawing time by hours. Those highlight and shadow techniques are magnificent, great work man, this makes me feel confident in the learning process.
Finally! a tutorial that I enjoyed and made sense. I started laughing when you would copy and paste each one, because I thought to myself this is a man that has regretted some things lol. Great tutorial, thank you!
This is a much faster way to work! I primarily use Autodesk Sketchbook Pro for all my cartooning, but I had no idea Illustrator could be so much more easier to use. All this time I thought I had to use the pen tool! Thank you so much for sharing😀
Exquisite tutorial Brad; I've watched numerous tutorials on how to achieve this in Illustrator and you've done it the best, bar none. *Thank you so much!*
This blew my mind! I'm a pro with Photoshop and InDesign, but I just can't get use to Illustrator for detailed projects. I had no idea Illustrator had a full on painting mode. I can't wait to try these techniques! Thank you!
Very useful. I did a drawing but I used the Shape builder tool to get rid of the overshooting lines, without expanding or using live paint. However, I think your workflow might be more useful. The painting trick with the transparencies is pretty cool.
this is by far the best method I've seen and the clearest instructions. some use the slice tool for the highlights and shadows but that doesn't work for me because I'm not very confident in placing the light and shadow and if i slice it it's harder to reverse the process later. thanks for sharing
Been learning a little at a time,as i need it. I've watched this before,a few times,a light just came on now! Don't think that because this is a Cartoon It's too simplistic, these techniques work for anything u may be drawing, and will make sense as u need it,THANK YOU.
Very well done! Straight to the point, no exaggerations, good tips. Professional and clean work. Thank you. You could add a speech bubble and let us know what he is saying or a thought bubble with smaller bubbles under it to show what he is thinking.
Thank you so much!!! That technique is a life saver, like I had no idea how to do that exact thing and then boom - it is actually sooo easy! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 💙
I just wanted to thank you for this! It is still very much useful 5 years later, i was getting soo fusterated on the coloring aspect, as it was nothing like drawing programs like sai/clip art. But i am excited to try again!! 🌟
Oh N000! I should've came here FIRST! To think I've watched Brad's videos for 2 years and I didn't think to search for help on Illustrator here -- gosh I'm an idiot!
Wow. Great drawing ( the character's posture is perfect) and excellent teaching. And a big thanks for the shout out to my video. Glad it's working for you.
Overlay is a mix of Multiply and Screen. Multiply always darkens, Screen always lightens, while Overlay darkens when the brightness is lower than 50% and lightens when the brightness is over 50%.
i just start practicing illustrator today and yea this video gave me so much idea on how to use different techniques to make it easier to make an awesome illustration.. Thank you so much for this video..
I thought I hated Illustrator and that it's a stupid program until I stumbled upon your channel and now i'm Illustrating a book thanks to you :) You rock Dude!
i was in a 6 day illustrator course and haven't even learned a fraction of this. (well cartoonists are rare in those courses) So thanks a lot. just what i needed, keep rewatching over and over while doing my linework...
This is the best tutorial I've come across !! Thank u so much !! I used your tips n my work is already looking better 😁👍😀 hope u have a great day! N be blessed with bounty!! 😀😁
Love this. I’ve image traced and expanded an image .there were still gaps in my lines so I used the pen to close them. However live paint still won’t select the objects. I tried selecting all and expanding but this didn’t do anything. I’m going to try copying the whole image and expanding. I love your new brush and shadows too so I will try that. Many thanks!
Aaah I already saw another tutorial and I again forgot about those shadow specific options... I use darker colors than the color where the shadow is to make the shadows 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you for this ! 😊 Also, I love so much illustrations on illustrator 🥹 artists like you just make me like Illustrator more and bring me to try different things ! I don't know why some don't like them because it's "too much vectory"... for me the drawings are pretty much lively like that too 😊
Man I love it! About to Convert this video for my High School students to study and practice with. You are awesome, well spoken, and very clear. Peace.
When you're cleaning up the overshot lines, couldn't you...instead of the Expand, Make and Expand step... go to Object/Path/Outline Stroke and then the Pathfinder/Divide function? That's what I've always done but I'm wondering if there's a specific advantage to your method.
You really helpt me with my illustrator work! I could not figure out to work the paint bucket and some other things as well. Been looking online soo much.. So thank you for this tutorial!
Thank you so much for this video. I have a homework assignment that needs me to use illustrator. Since I am starting all these tips are wonderful. Thank you for sharing and helping other artists out.
nice tutprial.I'd appreciate one where you go through a diversity of illustrations and walk us through your shading process. Whenever I'm shading things they always seem a little off, but it seems so natural for you. I'd love to see that process.
I know this was posted some time ago but...big thank you. I just got my tablet a couple of days ago and all of the overlaying lines thing was super helpful I was starting to hate the live paint bucket tool....thanks for giving me some perspective on this. 😄
Whenever I turn my group into a live paint group and expand my strokes automatically chop up. If there is a line it will lose a section. Any idea how to fix this?
This was the best video! Thank you. I'm brand new to any form of Illustrator. I did watch Clay's video and it was great but you helped me work out the bits I was missing with colouring. You went slow enough that I could find the paint tool...lol.
I'd like to know of a way to trim 2 intersecting lines (or as you called it @ 5:35 "edges that overlap", is there a way? I don't want to expand my line weight.

Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. I have watched other ones, but this one explains what some menu options do in a nice, breezy way.
Amazing tutorial, Brad! I've watched this video a couple of years ago, but watching it again (now with more Illustrator experience) made so much more sense! Appreciate it!

Super Tutorial! Very clean and clear. I paused it several times, just to try the techniques out for myself! Thank you - keep it up!
THIS WAS A LIFE SAVER! This cut about 40 minutes for me on the designs I was working with.
man every artist draws different u learn so much from different people
This video completely changed the game for me, addressed a whole load of issues that I didn't even realise I had! Thanks!!!
So your tutorial changed my life. It's been a hardcore new trick to learn, but it's soooooooooooo worth it. I'm so grateful. Thank you !

i watched a few in the last few days. yours in the first 8 mins has helped more than the rest put together. lol
This is a much faster way to work! I primarily use Autodesk Sketchbook Pro for all my cartooning, but I had no idea Illustrator could be so much more easier to use. All this time I thought I had to use the pen tool! Thank you so much for sharing😀
I love the credit he gives to Clay Butler for that technique with live paint, also this is an awesome tutorial
I enjoyed watching it. Such a nice and relaxing voice.
Alina Scherschneva I've been watching a lot of tutorials lately, and his voice is the first to not bore me. I actually wanna watch more videos. XD
same here ..!!
Aint it tho! lol.
Best tutorial I’ve seen so far. I really hate inking in illustrator but I have to learn it.
Thank you!
excellent! it's rare that i learn anything from these youtube tutorials. i learned a ton from this one!
When doing the highlights I've been using gradients, so when it gets to the edge it blends out.
Could you also do a tutorial on how to make a watercolor-like painting?
Very useful. I did a drawing but I used the Shape builder tool to get rid of the overshooting lines, without expanding or using live paint. However, I think your workflow might be more useful. The painting trick with the transparencies is pretty cool.

It's so clear! Kudos to your first tutorial and may it be the first of many. Thanks a lot
need a little elaboration on how you chose the gradient colors though
To me using Illustrator is like getting lost in a crowded Market and Photoshop is like my Mom always willing to embrace me ^__^
Hug* me
funny cos mine is the total opposite maybe cos its started illustrator first .lol
yakksy snow same.
It's the opposite for me xd
Well put
Thank you so much!!! That technique is a life saver, like I had no idea how to do that exact thing and then boom - it is actually sooo easy! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 💙

Wow I think your up there with the best tutorials!
great work and fast as well. can't wait for more.
I’ve watched a couple of similar videos and your version is by far the easiest to understand. Thanks!
This is great, I will use the transparency on areas that I want to highlight or have shadows. I love your artwork.
Oh N000! I should've came here FIRST! To think I've watched Brad's videos for 2 years and I didn't think to search for help on Illustrator here -- gosh I'm an idiot!
Oooooo that expand appearance option is so cool!!! :D
One of the best tutorials ever!! Loved it!
I had gone through like five other videos on coloring and this is the first one that actually explained it to me thank you!
This is fantastic! Very inspiring and you're a great teacher!
Awesome! The lines are very natural looking while staying in vector
Wow. Great drawing ( the character's posture is perfect) and excellent teaching. And a big thanks for the shout out to my video. Glad it's working for you.
This is THE BEST tutorial ever I watched recently. Most of the mysteries I've been wondering about the illustrator are relieved. Kudos friend!
Amazing information! First time understanding the Live Paint options!
Overlay is a mix of Multiply and Screen. Multiply always darkens, Screen always lightens, while Overlay darkens when the brightness is lower than 50% and lightens when the brightness is over 50%.
Thanks for sharing , real nice work flow and the technique certainly worth an applause
probably the most useful tutorial I havr ever seen
You changed my cartoonist life with this video :-) Thanks!!!! :-)

This method is amazing! And is too quick for inking and colouring!
Love this. I’ve image traced and expanded an image .there were still gaps in my lines so I used the pen to close them. However live paint still won’t select the objects. So helpful. I hate colouring in illustrator, and this basically made it insanely simple . Vertical fistbump 🤜🤛
You really helpt me with my illustrator work! I could not figure out to work the paint bucket and some other things as well. Been looking online soo much.. So thank you for this tutorial!

Hej med dig
Awesome. I finally get to know some easy tricks to help me!
What an excellent tutorial! Lots of extremely useful tips.
Best tutorial on UA-cam 😍
Make sure you’re not using basic brush or it won’t work out 🙈
Whenever I turn my group into a live paint group and expand my strokes automatically chop up. If there is a line it will lose a section. Any idea how to fix this?
thanks so much for this video *furiously goes and reworks all past artwork*
Really nice! My Surface Pro 4 should arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward to test out your technique.
