Plans for this French Cleat tool wall system are available here: www.thebencompany.com/store/p/ultimate-french-cleat-plans 51 Pages of detail with instructions for 30+ individual holders!
Ben, nice job on the wall. I also put up a 4'x16' French Cleat Wall in my shop that looks almost identical to yours. I did it about 2 years ago and have yet to find a negative aspect to it. In fact, each time I buy a new tool and make a holder for it, I appreciate it that much more because I can easily move things around to place it in an appropriate spot. Great content, THANKS!
I think you need to add a cozy dog bed to that bench! Everyone needs a shop dog, it is just not a complete shop without one. You are very talented, I really enjoyed watching this video and thanks for the great ideas.
30 years ago I brought 3 sheets of 3/4 plywood home from a job site and put them on my garage block wall, all this time I just put nails and screws in to hold stuff and some of the tool holder things from the big box stores. Wow for a young man you have a lot of great ideas.
12:30 I watched the part when your doggo chased his tail over and over again... I said to myself: “Wow, dogs are easy to entertain...” - Then I realized that I just watched your dog chasing his tail over and over again. 🤯
I will tell you something about those yellow lights. I opted to buy one of them because they were like 14 dollars where I could have bought a led one same day for like 30. I used it on the job for a few weeks and one day it dropped and the bulb broke. I was at the big box store and saw that led light for 25 dollars and the bulbs were about 5 dollars each. Bought that led light instead. I have had it maybe 6 months and have tossed it, dropped it, froze it and pretty much anything else that happens on most things and so far it holds up well. It is also so much cooler and no more heat beating down on you. The mount on the one I got is not all that cracked up to be. If I recall it was a Husky brand one and is suppose to attach to a stand as well. Yet over all the light is far better than the old bulb ones.
Thanks Warren. Today I just learned for you that a 4:1 ratio reduces the signal to 1dB above the threshold for every 4 dB it goes above that threshold. I always though it reduced it by 1dB. I now realize by using common arithmetic that scenario would be 4:3. I think many people are explaining it incorrectly. Thanks again!
Wow. I really like this. I need this for my craft room! I just installed a murphy bed in a bedroom to double as my craft room. I don't have a ton of wall space, but I think I can utilize one full wall to this, even though I don't think I'll need all of it. Also, I think what will be useful is that when I DO have guests, I can easily take down the protruding boxes and cubbies and the "French cleat" wall won't look bad if I dress it up and it won't get in the way of the bed. I have left over wood strips that may work. Thanks for sharing this. Really exceptional! 😄
That’s a awesome wall setup you have. Where I live I can’t mount anything to the walls like that because I’m renting and the landlord doesn’t even want tv or shower curtain mounted. So what I did is I now have 5 big file cabinets that I keep big tools in besides my 56”, 42” and 36”toolbox’s. (I do automobile work at home on the side) Then I build peg board doors for some large metal shelve using 2x4’s as a frame with a steel cable tensioning it to keep it square. The doors are hinges in the center so you can only open on at a time and the shelve are bolted together to make it more solid. I have gate latch to keep them closed. I did that because of dust when wood working and it is extra storage but most of all my son was 1 years old and trying to use brake clean couldn’t keep him out of the chemicals so the latch is up high lol. Now he’s 3 and knows better and helps me with everything
Ben, you are a most useful youth, a jolly nice fellow with excellent ideas that this old retired bloke will plagiarise . Thank you Ben..... and nice hound
Great job, I just turned my carport into a workshop and I've been racking my brain on how to be more organized, you just enlighten me, thanks for that great clip dude, really dig your dog too.
I loved your first French clea tool wall video so much, that i use a picture of the finished product as my laptop wallpaper, as it's so inspiring 😁 thanks for the new video!
Hey Ben. You might want to figure out a way to put something over the top of your router bit plate. If something falls on them, even the smallest chips will ruin a bit. But, awesome ideas with all of this, and everything you do.
Maybe a hinged plexiglass cover. It's not hard to work with, you can see through it to see what bit you need, and, if it does get chipped or cracked, it's reasonably cheap so you can make a replacement. You might want to make several of them from the beginning so you don't have to go buy more material.
I plan on building a french cleat wall next year. I really like how you made shelfs that stick out (like for the Skilsaw) as most vids on YT have these hung flush. I think your way is better use of real estate than hanging it vertically. Inspired, Thank you
Love the shop. In the process of designing mine now. Going around 24x36 with a couple of roll up doors and a man door for access from the house. Love the French Cleat idea. The only thing I see you need to do with your shop is the floor. I'm putting down my favorite hockey teams logo and then sealing it..
Hello The organization tips are great. This is the most French Cleats I have seen in one area - looks great. For the paint cabinet and work bench, can you post cut lengths, screw sizes, and overall directions? It would be nice to have that for items that you build.
Great video dude! Ha, Doofie is such a little legend - he’s obsessed with that ball - so funny! I love the French cleat system - so neat and adaptable.
Dust collector: just search for cyclone dust collector, you could get it for 20bucks from ebay, apply e.g. that orange bin we can see at 03:19 underneath the French cleat wall, and add a cheap vacuum cleaner (semi-industrial) to it. Not just an easy fix, but a pretty usable one. Hope this helps, keep up the videos, I really do like the way you resolve problems!
Wow!! That looks amazing...so organised...the whole place is looking so uncluttered and ordered! Reckon my hubby could learn a few tricks from you...he still uses the "Pile Style" storage system 😁 Oh...and by the way..."bless you"...twice lol
Hey Ben great build man as always love watching your videos especially how you play with those two cute little puppy's of yours they are two legends they kind of distract you some times and that a great thing they are adorable so here is mi point please please use a push blocker push stick at the table saw mate it takes 1 second of distraction for a life of regret keep doing what u are doing mate u are a absolute legend and loving all your builds i will be adapting a lot of your designs to my shop when i finally get a new shed and trick it out love your work mate take care
Another method for cutting the cleats out of your 4” piece is the following formula: Half width of stock - half the height - half the width of your blade. In Australia I used millimetres - 100mm x 19mm plywood piece and a 3 mm wide blade. Formula is 50-9.5-1.5 = 39mm. Set the fence fence to 39mm and make your 45 degree angle cut.
Great work Ben. Recently discovered your channel because of your pups. Love watching the work you are doing, getting some ideas for myself. And seeing the pups can never get old!
Great system. I would recommend getting a dust collector sooner rather than later. Speaking from personal experience, all your tools will get very dusty be out like this. You could start with the inexpensive Harbor Freight dust collector that’s less than $300. It’s definitely not top of the line but it will help a lot. 👍
Looks great and has a number of good ideas. I would suggest that you make an insert for the area the seat occupies so you can fill in the gap when you use it as an outfeed table.
My favourite expression comes to mind, A place for everything and everything in it's place. My four kids used to go cuckoo as I kept saying it as they grew, now I just laugh when I hear them saying it to the Grandkids, what goes around comes around. Thanks for the inspiration
HAHA I have the same problem with our lab dropping the ball and it rolling under my flip-top bench. Great build. My next move is to add the french cleat system to my wall. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos
Best French cleat tool wall I have seen. Think I will be looking into your other projects for inspiration. How’d the “once I am done with it I put it back” work out?
Ben - I’ve been following along with your workshop build since you started it, and it’s awesome, especially the french cleat wall and your amazing workbench.
Ben that was a lot of work; however I see you keeping it all together. Not picking on you but you are a bit of a neat freak! LOL I know the feeling I am the same way. Love, Love your dogs. They are sooooooo cute.
At the rate you're going you'll need an additional workshop.😂 How is the guest space looking...did y'all finish it? If Hansel ever catches his tail, wonder what he'll do? Doofie trying to dig in the plastic like he does in the mud...too funny.
Quick tip: If you put your router bit tray @ 45*, you can see & access them easier & quicker, also, dust doesn’t collect as easily. And, I could be totally wrong, but when you were cutting the full sheet of ply, it looks like you might need to raise your table saw a little bit to flush out to your work bench. Love those pups man. Just curious, what are their breeds?
Great video. Just and FYI I've seen other wood creators using a similar workbench and many have made a filler for the open space on the table when handling large wood projects.
inspirational - thanks so much . i have loads of tools i can never find......and the workbench was also great video to start a new workshop in a small area
Beautiful, Ben! My workshop is a 8'x10' shed, so i'm debating wether to make a french cleat system and lose the free usable space between the studs, or... just live with the shelves I currently have in there which go around the studs giving me 3 more inches deep for storage...
This is absolutely gorgeous. I am setting up my shop at the moment and I want to steal all of your ideas. I would pay for your plans or designs if you have them!!
If you are interested in a budget approach to dust collection then you should have a look at the videos on building dust collection impellers by Mathias Wendel and then a scaled up version by Marius Hornberger. I built one for my shop using fiberglass to make the fins on the impeller blade - stronger than the equivalent mass of wood. All in it cost me about $300 for the equivalent air moving of a $1500 purchase system. Plus, it was wildly fun and challenging. You just need to find a 2HP motor for cheap somewhere. I've found that old hot tub motors work well and are readily available.
i really like your way of thinking and planing. I wich i wood be able to do things like you in some years. Your stile is mutsh like mine and you inspier me a lot tkank you :)
Ben...great video and audio....I am a little confused after watch your first video... Question 1:All cleat r 4” wide 2 Question 2. Is there 2” between each cleat...thx .....Q#3 love your magnet for your screw driver...where can I find/...thxs in advance..RALPH
Very nice. The only thing I didn't read like was the holder for the wire. I would have made it so it was turned so I could just pull the wire from it without removing it.

My uneducated self once believed this space too big to use... my new knowledge tells me it should be doubled. Your channel is one of my favourites!

I'm just getting started on a workshop. So glad I found your channel before I got started.
This is the best organized mess wall I have ever seen, the wall looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember the days when I had that much energy, but just watching you work makes me exhausted. Keep up the good work.

I had that ryobi table saw and the fence was terrible. upgrading to a dewalt got rid of a lot of headaches. 😎👍🏼
Very awesome. Your first french cleat wall was a huge inspiration for my own
Your workshop is an inspiration for when I can finally have a permanent place
Wow!! That looks amazing...so organised...the whole place is looking so uncluttered and ordered! Reckon my hubby could learn a few tricks from you...he still uses the "Pile Style" storage system 😁
Oh...and by the way..."bless you"...twice lol
Really awesome. I am still spending a lot of time looking for tools all over the place. Anyhow, great job! keep it up.
Ben, I have to say, this is all amazing. You inspire me to try more projects. Thanks for these videos. Keep up the great work my dude.
Right on dude!

impressive man! that’s goals 👏🏽
Man I thought I was OCD! Truth though, your entire setup is BRILLIANT.
That’s Brilliant Ben! Super flexible and interchangeable . Love love love it.💕💕👍🇳🇿
Ben: "sometimes the dogs get in the way when I'm working.... So I built a French cleat to hang them up and keep them safe...."
That only works with French bulldogs🤣🤣
Best UA-cam comment of the day
Your workshop is looking great Ben!
Great work Ben. Recently discovered your channel because of your pups. Love watching the work you are doing, getting some ideas for myself. And seeing the pups can never get old!
Shop is coming together nicely. So happy you're not using the table saw on the floor anymore.
Just insanely organized!!! I loved it.. come help me in my garage!!! 🤣🤣🤣
My girlfriend loved your corgi video.

Nicely done Sir. Im very impressed with your work. Keep it up and more power to your channel. 👍👍

Fantastic build. I real shop of dreams. Can't wait to see what you build with it.
I sooooo want to do a wall like that. But I rent! 🤐 You're video though is an inspiration and I love the ending with your little helpers! ❤🧡

Holy inspiration, batman! Thanks so much for these great ideas Ben!
The long shank of the nail allows you to screw through a 2x4 and clamp it tight instead of just tightening inside the 2x4 and stripping it out.
I want to do this, looks ultra organised.
Your workshop is coming along. Very nicely organized!
Your shop assistants are the best. Go Dodgers!!
Many thanks for your inspirational project. Happy holidays stay well and healthy
Great video. Just and FYI I've seen other wood creators using a similar workbench and many have made a filler for the open space on the table when handling large wood projects.
Great organization system! Love your goofy little dogs! Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you and your family.
Beautiful! Is that just standard big box birch plywood? It looks really nice.
inspirational - thanks so much . i have loads of tools i can never find......and the workbench was also great video to start a new workshop in a small area
I love the way it looks. You do such great work!
Bless you.
Love that dodgers blue paint 👍🏼

One of the best I’ve seen, as well. Awesome!
Corgis! No better friend. Big dog in a small package. Good video!
I saw that nail bend on the saw stand, nicely timed cut.
This is absolutely gorgeous. I am setting up my shop at the moment and I want to steal all of your ideas. I would pay for your plans or designs if you have them!!
I just purchased your plans…get audio and camera work..love your dogs….quick question….I much room should I leave from the floor
That’s all up to personal preference. I left about 2 and a half feet below the lady cleat or else I’d be kicking stuff with my shins 😵

Inspirational. I am building my own French Cleat inspired by you. Thanks man :)
Love your dogs just as much as my own dogs. Great video, got lots of ideas. 👍🏻
yes, this is the most entertaining videos ever
i love this french cleat wall idea, might have to take that idea for my small home workshop too
I really enjoy your channel, keep up the fantastic work!
So envious of your French cleat wall.
Mine is tiny compared with yours.
You definitely need a tennis ball holder for the wall 🎾🎾 😁
You have come a long way from hacking random ATM's across state lines.
... I kid I kid, love your videos.
Ben...great video and audio....I am a little confused after watch your first video... Question 1:All cleat r 4” wide 2 Question 2. Is there 2” between each cleat...thx .....Q#3 love your magnet for your screw driver...where can I find/...thxs in advance..RALPH
Super boulot
Bravo Ben
Very nice. The only thing I didn't read like was the holder for the wire. I would have made it so it was turned so I could just pull the wire from it without removing it.
Great job Ben! What stunt team do you work for. I’m with Sigloch Military Combat and I’ve worked with Manny Perry of Stunts Unlimited, Joel Kramer, Keith Woodard of Brand X, and a few others. Moved to Texas to build a home on my 78 acre homestead and produce films in Texas. Love the workshop design!
Amazing shop dude.
What size is the plywood you used? Your spacing is four inches between top of one to bottom of the one above? Great work !!
I never knew french cleats were a thing. I am so doing this in the basement which has brick walls. just use plastic plugs and a masonry bit and drill set on hammer side. I reckon it would look nice with a bit of stain too. thanks Dude..your the man. just out interest what was the thickness of the ply, and what size screws would you recomend.. I got some half sheets of 12mm that might be ok for boxes..pretty sure I would need 18 or even better 25mm for the cleat strips?
Highly functional and time-saving!!
Love your work Ben.
A little step-ladder slash chair is missing. Excellent job!
Nice job, very clean look. Why do you have so many rotary tools?
