Thank you for the correction! When I was recording, I didn't have the prices on hand and was going by memory. I must have been thinking of the 12 color selection. The price has gone up since I originally bought it, but I checked my original invoice and it was $13.98 at the time of purchase. I'm glad you commented so people know. Thank you!
If ppl are being honest, Even if they were $50 they are worth it. They aren't watercolors. They aren't inks. They aren't graphitints, but whatever they are they are worth it. Also, if we aren't lying to ourselves, everything is made in China. So why pay more based on where the distributor is.

I'm late to the temu art party but I really enjoyed your review! The best white is the Uniball Signo pen. The gold and silvers are amazing as well. Happy creating!
I was absolutely shocked by that is Watercolor’s myself. I wasn’t expecting much for the price point or from where I was getting them from, and they are absolutely stunning and granulate beautifully as well. These paints Watercolor’s act just like my top professional water colours they are insanely beautiful, despite how they are packaged.
Yes, I was surprised too! I originally got them because I thought it looked like a nice earthy palette. And they aren't really metallic except a couple, so if someone is looking for that, they should keep looking. Haha but it worked perfectly for me that it wasn't glittery. Thank you for watching!
I have the same watercolor palette. I was disappointed at first that they weren't glittery, but then I decided it's fine because I have other metallic ones. I've gotten quite a few watercolor brushes from Temu and I've been happy with pretty much all of them.
Hi, thanks for the comment! That's great to hear about the brushes! Do you have any recommendations? I would like to try a few more myself. I was pretty happy with the quill brushes so far. No shedding (yet) and holds water really nicely. We'll see how they stand up over time! Thank you for watching 💜
The rice paper looked fine. Rice paper lacks sizing ao it's best to use with paints designed for rice paper, which usually contain animal glue as binder. Examples would be Japanese Gansai or Chinese paints, like Marie's (not the watercolor).
This is the first video I have seen from you and I wanted to stop by here and say that I really liked your voice and this abstract painting was really nice! It kind of makes me not so scared of using my art supplies, because I always this I have to paint something meaningful and perfect, while in reality it can be anything that comes to my mind. Thanks!

I got a set of these paints and was blown away at their intensity. They were a fab find and have ordered several more sets. They say they’re glittery, but I haven’t found it to be an issue. Also, you might try a sumo-e bamboo brush with the rice paper. And Posca white pens seem to stay more opaque
Thank you for the comment! I actually recently picked up a few Posca pens that were on sale at Michaels and I can't wait to try them! Good tip on the bamboo brush! I might have to pick that up. 💜
Watercolor is absolutely gorgeous on rice paper. I've used masking fluid on it first and the results are amazing! However, my rice paper wasn't crinkly-sounding like yours; it was much softer.
Thanks for the comment! It has held up so far. It is hard to see in the video, but one of the brush heads is flush with the wood, and the other one has a little bit of an air gap like it didn't go all the way down the barrel when it was made. So far, all is good! Thank you for watching and for your comment! 💜
I’ve seen this watercolor set all over Amazon lately. Some listings say it’s supposed to be Gouache or like an opaque watercolor. Asian and western watercolors have a lot of differences, especially these cheaper sets. There’s some excellent Asian brands making watercolors but these mass produced ones are always hit or miss. The colors are lovely though. Nice earth tones.
I love your username!! 😄 This watercolor set is different than others I've used. It almost feels like a different product, which someone else commented and I agree with. It spreads but doesn't spread, it's transparent but also sort of opaque, it seems to granulate. It doesn't like to move much after it dries. It has been very interesting to play with and I actually bought it because of those nice earth tones. The colors go wonderfully together and are very rich looking. The pans wet nicely and the paint becomes kind of thick, almost like a gouache. It's worth a try if you're looking to experiment with something new! You might just fall in love. Happy creating! One thing I think I noted in the video too is that they do not appear metallic on paper much at all, even though they are sold that way. Which was fine with me, I actually didn't notice that in the description when I purchased them so I wasn't disappointed.
Loved the video! I also have that watercolor set and love those paints. Warm earth tones are very nice. I also ordered the color wheel set as well. Just started my watercolor journey this past year so am enjoying the discovery process. I look forward to your other videos. Subscribed!

She always had us trying new things and I made my first (and only) piece of pottery in that class with glaze and everything. It was a goblet that of course never got used because it was wildly misshapen and large. Lol but she made the process so fun. Thank YOU for sparking that memory for me! The only time I used rice paper was for making macaroons😂. This looks like fun. I have not painted for years. I like oil, that is what I was introduced to at the age of 3. My mum painted, she was Italian and learned from her Aunt who was a Nun. ❤
Hahaha! 🤣 it's funny you mention that because I was looking up rice paper techniques to try to get a handle on it a little bit before I tried it for the first time and I kept coming up with recipes and cooking tips! Hi! I picked up this rice paper as well. I wanted something thin to glue to my journal when I wanted to paint with watercolors. It worked pretty well. You can’t go crazy with water, but I was really happy with the results.
Hi Sue! Thanks for the comment! That is a great idea to use it for journaling. I had some tissue paper, etc. But I thought rice paper would be really fun to play with and I'm glad I got it too. I need to experiment more and try using it in a journal too. I did notice it gets soggy fast. Lol that giant quill brush didn't help. What about the rough vs. smooth side? Is there a better side to paint on? I didn't really notice much difference but I may be missing something. Thanks for watching!
I found a vintage Chinese watercolor book (one of those large, thick paper ones) at a a big antique show. And I have one of those brushes, and I think I ordered some rice paper from Temu a few months back...gotta find it. Now I'm really anxious to try it!
Wow, what a find! I love antique shows/malls. You can find such amazing things. I got my vintage Derwent watercolor pencil set for about $15. I hope you enjoy your new supplies, happy creating! 💜
I have painted on rice paper (xuan paper) it is not sized so you will need to practice controlling the flow of the paint. It is used primarily in Chinese ink painting and Japanese Sum-e painting.
I'm on my second bottle of the gold paint from Temu. It's extremely versatile... I am finding so many uses for it.. I mix it to watercolor for a shimmery golden tint as well as an overlay shimmer for a bit of bling on my holiday card and tag painting. It's also incredible to use as a final splatter which adds the perfect magical final touch . VERY shimmery. Love it! Nice video. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for the comment! Yes, I LOVE that gold. I haven't used it mixed with watercolor yet, that sounds like a fun idea. I'm so glad you like the video and your paint! Have a fabulous day! 💜
Hi! Yes, I actually purchased a set of Artistro not long after this video. I do like those pens. Some of the paint pens with the fine tips have a kind of scratchy feel against the paper which can be a challenge, but if I try to be careful with the direction of my drawing, it works better. The Artistro pens have a great color selection too, I got the 12-color set. Thank you for the tip!
I just found you, and loved your video. I have been buying art supplies from temu for a while. I have a ton of stencils from them. Sometimes bigger ones will be bent etc. If you take a photo and click return they will quickly refund and tell you to keep or donate if just a small item or two. I have the watercolor pallet and the gold ink. I just got rice paper so haven't played with it yet. I have been very impressed with most of the art supplies I have gotten, not so much with clothing lol
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! That is great to know about easy returns/refunds. Yes, I think some things wouldn't be worth purchasing, but I've really enjoyed a lot of the art supplies I've tried, and some of the tools, like the palette knives. I still use them. Happy creating! 💜
Thank you! I own both and like both, but it seems like when I write on thirsty paper it loses some of its opacity. But not always 💜 Thanks for watching!
I have done rice paper, by using melted wax .You color one part then add wax so it won't take another color. When done make in a ball then iron out using paper on top till wax is gone
I liked your video. It is very natural the way you share your mind and crack yourself up at times. Just goes to show that price is not always an indicator of substance. I have played with some rice paper, there is a side to preference but I cannot remember now. Those paints perhaps are a bit more like ink??? There are so many interesting aspects to watercolour painting. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, they may be a bit like ink now that you mention it. They spread more when very wet but mostly want to stay put. I loved the colors! Very rich. I am definitely going to explore the rice paper more, maybe I'll fumble around in some more videos. Thank you for watching and stopping by!
I have a beautiful painting on rice paper done by an artist from Nelson, BC. This explains why the paper looks a little crumply . I could take a picture if you’d like. Wish I could post it here. It’s poppies with little chickadee birdies. 🖤🐾🐾
I would love to see it! I love birds. You could email it to me if you like, my email link is right on my about page 🙂 thank you for the lovely comment and for watching! 💜
i bought those paints a few weeks back and had to return them, really deep colours but mine were incredibly chalky and not much sparkle, the baohong paper i buy is superb though
@@KateMilesArt You should try it, there are 2 versions "Academy" which is deemed student grade and then the ordinary professional versions, you can get them in Smooth Hot Press (Usually red/pink cover), Cold Press (Green cover) and Rough which is Yellow/Orange cover. The professional version are much deeper coloured covers but the Academy range is superb to paint on and it is genuine 300gsm 100% cotton and a lot cheaper than the equivalent papers here in Ireland/UK. A s a fairly new person to watercolours i may not be the best to comment but i find it great to work with and i have used some very expensive papers in the past One last thing, i love the glued blocks and just buy those now. Love your videos, i learn a lot just by watching 🥰
Thank you so much for the tips, I'll have to try a couple different Baohong papers! I have used Arches and I own some, but my usual go-to because of cost savings is the Bee watercolor paper, which is also 100% cotton. I've recently tried New York Central cotton watercolor paper sold at Jerry's Artarama and I've really enjoyed that too. I've just picked up two new brands (for me) at Jerry's, Masters Choice and Fluid 100, but I haven't tried those yet. I'm excited to 😀 I'm so glad you like my videos, and thank you for watching! Thank you for the info! In your experience, what would be a difference between raw and mature, as far as how it looks or how you use it? Is one more delicate or has a different feel?
@KateMilesArt Raw is completely not sized, absorb and spreeds better. Medium raw and mature are sized. In my experience, if you want more details, less spreed, try matured paper. It is easier to enter the world of rice paper using matured rice paper. As you gain more and more experience, you can use any of them, depending on your needs. They all have their own advantage.
Great to know, thank you! Yes, that particular paper was cotton watercolor paper instead of cellulose. I tend to like cotton paper for most watercolors and Bee paper (140 lb) is a cost effective cotton paper. Thank you for watching! 💜
Hi Annabelle! I actually made a mistake and priced the 12 color set when I was doing the video. I pinned a comment with the correct price I paid. So I think the $13.49 would be a good deal still! 💜 It does fluctuate a little bit and I think sometimes you can get coupon offers too.

I would like to recommend that you do some research on this company. One of the many negatives is that they steal art from artists and there's nothing artists can do to protect their work.
@@kgille Temu is the market place. Vendors sell their items on the platform. Temu didn’t steal a design, a company did and sold it on Temu. I’ve heard they will take a product down if it is a stolen design.
Thank you Tania! I have noticed the price fluctuates quite a bit and with exchange rates, it won't be the same everywhere. This is good info for people in your area.
I bought thise markers from amazon they were terrible!!! They leaked everywher!!! I returned them, dont know if they were just a faulty set hopefully yours will be ok. Ive seen loads ofvreviews on those paints and EVERYONE has said they are NOT metalic!!! Even though it says they are
Yes, the paints definitely were not metallic on the page! Funny for me, I actually missed that in the description when I bought them originally, so I was happy they weren't! 😂 The markers didn't leak for me, but the fluid was pretty thin, so they might with continued use. I think the black and white paint markers were like some others I've used, but I got another brand locally that leaked terribly for me. I made a video of it when I did a pen and marker video from Hobby Lobby and Dollar Tree a few weeks back. Overall, most things were interesting to use, some were OK, and I actually liked the watercolors a lot, but if I had purchased them expecting metallic, I would have been very disappointed!
It's true it could be a possible risk when you're not purchasing from a seller you know and trust. You should only purchase what makes you comfortable from any seller 💜
Thank you for your comment. I was not aware there was talk about Temu specifically with forced labor/exploitation. Although I cannot say I am surprised, given that today's consumer has a just about impossible task of choosing any product at all that isn't produced using some form of exploitation, let alone any real knowledge of the source of anything they purchase. It seems to be baked into the global supply chain and if your statement about Temu is true, it is a symptom of a much larger global problem. The world's favorite brands of coffee, chocolate, clothing brands that use cotton, makeup, and even building materials, raw natural resources, and agricultural products, have had reports of using exploited labor. It is particularly alarming when you read the US Department of Labor's List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor, which had a total of 467 goods and raw materials produced in 78 countries. I think it is very admirable to seek sources that do not use exploited labor, and if you can share some brands here that you've researched, more folks can gain awareness. Thank you again for your comment!
It appeas they get businesses in razor sharp margins to break even but then increase price... so they later mak $ after being more well known. If temu pffers discount or coupon its to get a new customer/buy. I think it will improve but US allows it and China too. We see exposes on fashion & China too. They charge $17/item but brand western resell $2k. @@KateMilesArt

You can use the rice paper with ink. Gelli printing is what I use it for and then collage.
Love that idea! 💜
I have painted on rice paper (xuan paper) it is not sized so you will need to practice controlling the flow of the paint. It is used primarily in Chinese ink painting and Japanese Sum-e painting.
Thank you!! 💜
Is there a silver ? It would be beautiful sparkling on top of snow in the background.
@@suzannemartin5984 unfortunately, no silver that I've found in the same brand. 😟😘
Have you tried Artistro white paint pens? They work well for me.
Uniball sigmo white gel pen is an opaque white. It isn't a paint pen but it works great better then the gelly roll.
That's a wonderful idea, thank you! 💜
Like a batik.
Great review. I bought many of the art supplies that you have.
Thank you for the comment! 💜
Rice paper needs to be drenched in water and squeezed then flatten out so having the wrinkles should not be a problem
Thank you for the tip! That's good to know!
I have heard of that paper and never tried it! I guess I really should because people keep talking about it. Thank you for watching! 💜
I love learning new things from other people who leave comments! I'm learning and practicing myself, so sharing tips is great. Happy creating! 💜
Rice paper is good for gell prints and collage paper.
That's great to know, thank you! 💜
That dededepraise 24 colors isn't a metallic set. However, it is actually somewhat granulating!
Yes, I noticed that too! I look forward to playing with these more. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 💜
experience it together!. I'm all for group suffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂😂😂 thank you for watching and commenting! 💜
My second time watching. I commented the same in both views. Ha Ha!
Haha! Well that just means it's extra useful! You had great ideas so I'm glad it is on here for folks to see 🙂 thank you for watching and commenting!! 💜
The rice paper you bought is raw rice paper. There are other kinds, like medium raw or mature. You can try to see what you like more.
That is great information, thank you! 💜
One thing: rice paper IS paper. Your watercolor paper is cotton? "Rice" paper is typically made with of the inner bark of mulberry trees.
Great to know, thank you! Yes, that particular paper was cotton watercolor paper instead of cellulose. I tend to like cotton paper for most watercolors and Bee paper (140 lb) is a cost effective cotton paper. Thank you for watching! 💜
@@KateMilesArt I love Bee paper. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the demo.
Thank you! 💜
I have the ocean paint pallet and I absolutely love it and the others she has. By the way I have tons of dip pens if your interested 😊
I'm so glad you like it! And I am still trying with dip pens haha 😆
It's been a few months since this video, the Dededepraise 24 color is now $13.49. Sad, It would have been a steal at $6.
Hi Annabelle! I actually made a mistake and priced the 12 color set when I was doing the video. I pinned a comment with the correct price I paid. So I think the $13.49 would be a good deal still! 💜 It does fluctuate a little bit and I think sometimes you can get coupon offers too.
@@KateMilesArt Oh, I didn't see your corrected comment. I ordered them yesterday. 😁 Thanks for the review, it was very helpful. ❤
You're very welcome! 💜
Those big brushes are suppose to be squirrel hair. I have those but got mine from Wish. Squirrel hair is not the best choice.
Hi! Thank you for the comment! What type would you recommend?
@@KateMilesArt If you can get your hands on one of the Japanese handmade soft brushes made of white goats hair you will sure see and feel the difference. It is on my wishlist.
Thanks for the recommendation! 💜
if they do rust use WD40 to remove the rust.
Thanks for the tip! I am happy to report that after using for several months, there is no rust! 🙂💜
@@KateMilesArt Perfect :)) Glad to hear :))
You can return Items back to temu for a refund.
Contact them about the damage. They may just send a new pack of papers paper to you.
Thank you Veronica! I have heard customer service is very good. I ended up keeping because once it was wet and used, it worked just fine and the wrinkles came out also. Thanks for watching and happy creating! 💜
I would like to recommend that you do some research on this company. One of the many negatives is that they steal art from artists and there's nothing artists can do to protect their work.
Thank you for your comment, Karen. I will do that.
@@KateMilesArt You’re very welcome. I’m concerned that people are unaware of what’s going on regarding this company.
@@kgille Temu is the market place. Vendors sell their items on the platform. Temu didn’t steal a design, a company did and sold it on Temu. I’ve heard they will take a product down if it is a stolen design.
Thank you, that is good to know!
Its nearly $26 in Australia
Thank you Tania! I have noticed the price fluctuates quite a bit and with exchange rates, it won't be the same everywhere. This is good info for people in your area.
I've been buying a lot of my craft supplies from Temu.
Hi! Thanks for your comment 😀💜 I have mostly enjoyed anything I purchased on there. What are some of your favorite items?
I believe Rice paper is used for calligraphy not painting.
Thank you! 💜
Im so hesitant to buy paint at Tema or anywhere else outside of EU. They can be filled with all kinds of toxic chemicals.
It's true it could be a possible risk when you're not purchasing from a seller you know and trust. You should only purchase what makes you comfortable from any seller 💜
Don't say that 😟... I'm waiting on my order to arrive😭
The use of forced labor just isn’t worth it. I’d rather do without or pay more.
